Your View: Status Updates And Reputation Feedback

Reputation and status removal has been up in the air for a good long time now, it's a good thing that the admins are putting their foot down on a decision but I am unsure on this one. Keep reputation removed, but bring back the status updates.

Though I say this, to be completely honest;

Reputation, absolutely useless. Just more of a reason for people to post repetitive rant posts that yield no result for the sake of amassing worthless points on the forums. Not needed, at all.

Status Updates, absolutely useless as well. They're just used as an excuse for people to ***** about whatever topic is at hand. Nothing constructive is done through them and I can't recall a situation where they've EVER made progress in a matter over a Forum Topic.

Both are completely fine removed and give people more reason to be on the server instead of the forums.

Seeing as ALL events that happened yesterday actually caused several people in my circle to quit... I would like to have at least the status updates back. Now, I have several points on the matter and will be quoting a few things.

First, I point you to the origin of all the trouble: https://www.lordofthecraft.net/topic/102133-substitute-for-status-updates

This is the topic which was mentioned yesterday, in passing, as the reason for it. (I believe the words were 'you were warned months ago'.) If you note, the pole at the top of the page CLEARLY shows the community is NOT in favor of these changes.

Second, I point you to the post by my friend Netphreak:

"

And I thought that nothing worse could be implemented... You proved me wrong, dead wrong... Seriously? It's a forum..

Do you know what the definition of a /FORUM/ is?? I'll go ahead and type it out for you...

"A place, meeting, or medium where ideas and views on a particular issue can be exchanged."

Is that simple enough for you? I sure hope so... Now, to the issue at hand and the highly contradicting 'reasons' as to why these changes have occured... If words from another person hurt you and motivate you to make such changes like this? Perhaps one shouldn't be in a position of such power, if they cannot handle /constructive criticism/.

I am being brutally honest, I'm tired of sugar coating, I'm tired of the red tape that we are all being /FORCED/ into, WE the /PLAYERBASE/ are in the dark! Can you not agree with this? No consultation to allow us to give you feedback, "No let's just censor them because they're just the players, who gives a hoot right?"

This is a problem staff members, and one month? Do you remember what happened to 'Just give it a chance?' Do you even know how hollow of a sentence that is now?

'Just give it a chance' means 'It will stick, if you don't like it, boowhoo... Deal with it.'

VERY problematic for examples of leadership, LOTC was perfectly fine, and now these liberal like changes are being made... Staff, I urge you to reconsider this crap, all of it, the server is going into a deep trench because of these choices. I've been staff on many servers, I'm not saying I'm better or worse, but never in my friggen brain would I come up with censoring the community! NEVER!

That annoys me, truly.. I'm now giving you my feedback on this forum, because I cannot post a status about it.. How troubling... And Reputation? How in the world is that a negative impact? If players gain rep, it's because they've earned it, good or bad.. It's on them..

Go back to how things were, I promise... Things will get better... Nothing was broken then! Now everything is broke, Server, Forums, Freedom of Speech, Staff..

It's all on you, if you want the server to continue this way, 'Obviously' we can't do crap about it, we don't have the perms, but this is /ALL/ on you! I am going to put all the staff in one classification, 'STAFF'. General! Stop. Fixing. Crap. That. Isn't. Broken!

And please... Let us know your 'ideas' before putting them into action by voting amongst yourselves... That's simply just selfish of all of you, thinking what is best for the playerbase, we're not your children, we have thoughts and feedback..

That's my two cents, I hope you take my words seriously, this has gone on far enough.

" ((found at link :  https://www.lordofthecraft.net/topic/116345-status-updates-quick-news-and-profile-reputation/?p=1113448 ))

I truly agree with this statement.

Three: Status Updates truly are harmless. Yes, some people use them like facebook and others use it for trolling. Some of us though actually do use it for comments, concerns, and fast questions that we don't feel posting a whole topic about it is actually worth it.

Example:

Is anyone having trouble connecting to the server?
Did anyone catch the football game?

Hey, check out my art store! (link)

Fourth, and finally: Some people use status updates when they are away from a computer and MC. You are at work/school, browsing the forums, making a post about xyz, and you see updates. You know what is going on on the server so you know what to expect later.

Conclusion: Bring back the status updates.

The Rep I'm not too fussed about; don't entirely see why it needed removal when FM's can quite easily hand out bans and other punishment for intentionally flamatory/offensive posts, but whatever. As for the status updates, not liking it. It might not seem much, but I suddenly feel... so disconnected from the community. It's one of the only ways we really communicate with one another and socialise without being friends or in-game. Are you going to remove posting rights without approval from at least 5 GM's who've looked over it next, for fear the response may contain content that might offend a few people? Sorry for the smart-ass remark, but that's honestly the direction it feels we're going towards, this being just a minor start.

^ My feedback from the original thread.

The forums feel... so empty now, without player status updates, like what it would be if LotC were totally dead and nobody played anymore. It's discomforting and it's not something I feel was necessary. It could be handled easily with moderation and appropriate punishment for flammatory, offensive updates.

Honestly there really wasn't a good point to removing them, especially status.

Rep is just a fun feature, and tbh nobody has 'rep farmed' since like Aislin, and tbh his 'rep farms' were good ideas most of the time.

If you want to stop mean/trolly things getting rep, have the fms crack down and remove them before they can.

I find it laughable that your friends are leaving because they can't post one line on the front page. Are they really worth talking about?

Not every decision should require community input, and it shouldn't. LOTC isn't a democracy, the word of a small percentage of our overall playerbase isn't law, and it should stop being law. It's nice to see the staff for once just put their foot down and actually not falter to the loud masses. I might be wrong. Let's see how long they last without needing to once again take back what they state.

Rep was pretty terrible, it encouraged flaming and I could go on about the negatives of it but I already have a topic on that. Glad it is basically removed now. The only argument against removing rep is "m-muh online points". Status updates were very useful. Advertising, asking questions, and other fun stuff were all good things that came from status updates. Nobody really takes status drama seriously anyways.

See, it's all just backlash.

Status' yes.

Rep is... Eh. It was a nice tiny little thing to have. But removing statuses was really silly. You even asked if people wanted them removed, and the majority of people said no =/ It doesn't really make sense to ask someone their opinion and what they would like then doing the opposite of what the majority of people say they would like. I understand this is all temporary, but again, why ask if you won't listen?

Please return status updates and reputation, including +1s and -1s.

Return statuses. If possible create toggleable staff only news status bar.

Remove rep and keep it gone. Do not bring back -1s.

What if players could make it so that they do not have to see a specific player's status updates? For example, I don't like the player "Mrfropplepopple" because he/she is always negative, I can add them to a "Status block" list, and now I don't have to view their status. Not sure if this is a good compromise, or if it even works, but even something like that perhaps? What if we could toggle status updates instead? Or perhaps (This next one can be very controversial) only donators can do status updates, or toggle?

Don't limit statuses. Everything else is fine, but statuses are a necessity for a huge portion of the playerbase. It's how we communicate without making junk posts and all sorts of threads. Remove that limitation. Don't even bother testing it.

If you want the team members to do their announcements (which I find pointless and, honestly, uninteresting), make a second status update log, right under the normal one, so you may have both, instead of restricting it. I don't read statuses for important info. I read them to be in touch with other members of the community and, sometimes, to see what others are up to that might interest me.
