As an imperialistic Australian, I salute you. I mean, we obviously have no idea what's best for us that we need the hierarchy to just bypass the opinions of the community and simply implement such things.

Two words; stolen generation.

(I'm not being serious. Of course I'm not actually comparing the loss of statuses to the loss of children.)

Good to know your Neo-Nazi views died out!

Can't the staff just make a status update area Only for staff, and a status update area for everyone? This way we can have people put out their opinions, their advertisements, their questions, and their sweet artwork, AND... we can have an area where we can get quick updates from staff that don't get bogged down by player updates.

I had to resort to putting my shameless advertisement in my signature.

There's no need to be passive aggressive, I don't think the status's should of been removed but acting this way is nothing to be proud of. (That poll shows 16 players out of the hundreds of that play, it's not very accurate and probably shouldn't be used in this argument but I would assume most players did indeed enjoy reading and using the status updates.)

There was another poll that had way more

Because LOTC is not a democracy and they shouldn't have to listen or care what you think on every little detail that goes on on LOTC. They're not doing this to piss you off, they're doing what's best for the server as a whole, which does not require anyone's input. If anything you guys are just complaining over nothing.

What qualifies the staff to know what is best for the players? Seriously is there some sort of advanced staff ritual where how to properly /nuke is taught and the applicants sense of humour is removed? There were several polls on the subject all that all provided clear evidence on what the player-base's opinion on the removal of statuses. The removal of statuses and replacing them with staff updates that nobody pays attention to was clearly the wrong decision as now players have a much harder time asking questions, advertising or promoting discussion etc. So instead of engaging in this dumb testing period just bring back statuses, bypassing the player base on a whim is clearly the wrong method of "doing what's best for the server".

I honestly don't think it's really about what people want. It has more to do with the unneeded negativity that comes with it's perks. I can tell you that since the removal, I have not had to see complaining and other negativity right on the front page. Now, all that crap has to be in threads which i can choose to look at. It feels more like a relief when you don't have to see people wanting attention over something ridiculous, or staying off the site just so you are not tempted to read it. At the same time, the staff gets lots of bashing from status updates. This will also keep people's dramatic problems personal, and they can't drag others into it.

To conclude, I think it's more of a "This is for your own good whether you like it or not. We need to see how this will turn out" and the voting was just to see what the community would think that way the staff wouldn't be surprised at this big uproar. It's also much easier for the staff. this isn't their Job it's more of a community service, and I can tell you, they got a lot more patience with this community than I would. That's why I never tried to be a GM lol. Trust me, I'm sure they already knew what sacrifices would come with this (Advertisements, quick questions, interesting/funny stuff) but in comparison, those are not huge things to lose, most servers don't have status updates, and the ones that have something like it, the players don't use it for much other than arguing. Those polls were also most likely a hope that people would agree with removing them. Many of the decisions made by the community have lead to trouble and it took a long time for the server to recover from those decisions (Like removing villain apps. "Oh all it does is test how good of a story teller you are..." RP is all about story telling, and being a villain puts you in a position where you can have dictation over another player. It's easy to anger a player doing this if done wrong, you NEED to be a good story teller to be a villain, but it was removed, and thankfully things have gotten better) The community has never really had the best decision makers either. But in the end, they did say it's temporary, so we will have to wait and see.

I hate to be the devil's advocate, but the staff updates are really useful. I'd prefer them to normal statuses. However... why can't we have both? Just make two feeds, one that is from non-staff and one from staff. Put the updates above.

Not so much devil's advocate as clear plain as can be logic.

So it's been 13 days, trolliness has almost increased.

Can staff admit this was a failed experiment and let us use normal channels again? even Applicants were complaining.
