Descendants of Malin, one of the four brothers, Elves are the long lived race that inhabit the realms. They have three subtypes and various different looks that they could go with. Generally smaller in stature than a human, they vary from the same height to taller than a normal human with long pointed ears. They are agile and quick on their feet making them a harder opponent to land hits on.

History of the Elves

The first elves were born with their father as Malin, the forefather of all elves. Malin was also one of the four brothers from the start of time, according to the works of the wandering wizard. When Aegis was first settled, the children of Malin went deep into the forests. In these forests, they created the first language and named the things that they saw; the trees, the grass, the mountains, the valleys, etc of Aegis. When Iblees tempted the four brothers, he promised Malin many children to fill the halls of the elves, which were very empty. During the battle against the fallen Daemon, Malin fought well with his blade, landing many blows on Iblees. As the fight continued, Malin feared for the lives of his elven children and stayed in his forest sanctuaries. When Iblees was defeated, he cursed the four brothers. Instead of Malin getting more children, his people were cursed with infertility so the forest sanctuaries of the elves would stay barren and near empty. The Aengul and Daemon that helped win the war only could grant Malin peace and long life for the few elvish children he would have.

Curse and Blessing

Elves were cursed with infertility yet blessed with long life. While the blessing helps little when mixed with other races, their curse stays strong. They are the longest living race on Lord of the Craft. Elves can live up to 1000 years, rarely more. However, they are cursed horribly. Unable to give birth to children, an elf will have more trouble having a child. While they can have children, they can never conceive more than five children. The birth of twins and triplets is very rare and usually stuck within families that have this. Elves can not have more than one birth within a fifteen year span. However, once an elf reaches the age of 500, they are completely unable to have children.

Culture

Elves age the same rate as humans, reaching puberty in their teens and full physical maturity at age 20. However, despite being physically mature, they are considered teens until they reach the age of 50. This allows them to experience the immaturity of humans for many years. Their bodies stop aging from 20 on. It is frowned upon for elves under the age of 50 to have intimate relations due to them not being an “adult”. However, this does not mean they can not. Until elves reach 150, they are considered living “their human years” as this is a time they will be more emotionally influenced and unstable. While elves are believed to be very peaceful, they can be quite strong. One major taboo for the elves is killing an elven child. Children are hard to come by in elven society, and killing an elven child is considered one of the worst crimes.

Sub-races

There are three subraces of elves. The high elves (mali’ahearal), the wood elves (mali’ame), and the dark elves (mali’ker). Each subrace has different cultures and different appearances. Below will include pictures and various different sub-cultures of each race.

Mali’Ahearal - High elves

High elves are usually quite stuck up when it comes to their believes. Whether they are the puritans or the fenn, high elves usually share very similar qualities. Very stuck up and tend to be independent, no matter what form they come in, its very easy to tell High Elves from others. They seem to be quite skilled with magic but also quite resistant to the effects of magic, to a small degree.

Mali’ahearal are often pale skinned with hints of gold in their flesh. Their ears are the longest out of the elves. Their height varies from 5’11” to 6’6” (1.8m to 2m). Their eyes are a softer variant of colors often being Green, blue, and rarely purple. Their hair is usually of the blonde variety being either golden to platinum white. Being tall and slender they are considered the more “fair” of the races.

Puritans

While they just consider themselves Mali’ahearal, these are the ones who are more conservative to the purity of their sub-race. Often hunting down those of “tainted line” they believe the Mali’ahearal should never be with another of a different race or sub-race. They tend to have a curious disposition, coupled with considerable self-confidence, which would often be seen as arrogant. Due to their natures, most tend to favour scholarly activities over martial or labour work. These will never dye their hair or have excessive jewelry. More information on their culture could be found Here.

Fenn

These are High Elves who left the mother city and went to live in the colder climates. Becoming more open to others, they soon became more in tune with their emotions, disregarding their older customs, they created their own. While often despised by many other races, the Mali’fenn culture still continues to bubble up trying to separate from their puritan cousins.

Mali’Ame - Wood Elves

Commonly called tree huggers, Wood Elves are the most in tune with nature. Being smaller and more nimble than their elven cousins, wood elves are the most agile and most skilled with a bow. Often being the most accepting, they are one of the most docile elves. Usually wood elves are found as druids or bow makers.

Wood elves are darker than their high elven cousins yet lighter than the dark elves. Their skin is usually a cocoa, olive, or even rarely peach color. Their eyes are very diverse in color carrying both high elven and dark elven colors. Their hair color ranges from blonde to black, though its not uncommon for wood elves to dye their hair green, red, or brown. Being the shortest, they stand at 5'3" to 5'9" (1.6m to 1.8m)

Because they are so diverse, they are the only sub-race of elf not to have multiple sub-cultures. They are generally peaceful, very protective of nature and allies. They tend to wear very earthy colors, living in wooded areas either in the base or tops of trees.

Mali’ker - Dark Elves

Dark elves are considered one of the most understood sub-races. Often stereotyped as slutty assassins with numerous amounts of blades and an unquenchable thirst for intimate relations, dark elves are pushed aside and concidered “edgy”. While some play into this stereotype many do not and struggle to show what they truly are. More information about the Dark Elves can be found Here.

Being the middle in height, standing between 5’10” and 6’4” (1.8m to 1.9m), they are the most broad when it comes to strength. Having been hunted for centuries, they became more well muscled for use of swords. Their skin usually varies from dark charcoal to soft ash. The eyes can vary between Red, Green, Blue, purple and rarely red/blue dual colors. Their hair can vary from greys to silver and is sometimes dyed.

The Ancestrials

These dark elves are very tied to their roots. Believing that the spirits from their past watch over them. Being firm believers, they hold very solemn rituals when one has passed. Normally close knit families, they tend to be very proud of their heritage. It is believed praying to one’s ancestors will bring honor and open them a path to their ancestrial plane. While each clan is different in ways, they all share the same belief that they will be reunited through honor and deeds their family has trust in.

The Velulaei Followers

The families that follow or believe in Velulaei (The Aengul of the Moon to them) are just as tied to  their roots as Ancestrials. However, they differ in the fact that their common ancestor, the one linking their families together, is viewed as an ascended. It is a glorification of their ancestor to put it simply. This is why sometimes they may seem sceptical towards others who mock them for ‘believing’ in a ‘god’ just like the humans. Anyone would be angry if their ancestors were mocked (well, any dark elf would be).

LANGUAGE/NAMES

The ancient elvish language was lost (and most of it still is), however the elves (mainly high elves) are working on recovering the language. A full dictionary that has every word so far can be found here. However, that is very long, and most elves don’t know any more than a handful of words. Below are some common words found around Lord of the Craft.

Races & Subraces

Mali - Elf

Bortu - Dwarf

Uruk - Orc

Valah - Human

Mali’aheral - A direct translation is blessed elves, however it is used to refer to high elves.

Mali’ame - Wood Elf

Mali’ker - Dark Elf

Mali’fenn - Snow Elf

Greetings

Karin’ayla - Used as a greeting when it is day-time.

Ker’ayla - Used as a greeting when it is night-time.

Van’ayla - Farewell, used at any time to say goodbye.

Misc Words That Are Commonly Used

Llir - Friend

Maln - father

Haelun - mother

Names

When picking out a character name, you can do two things. You can use an elvish name generator from the internet or use the elvish language here to make a name for yourself out of the words that have been discovered.

Either one works, take into account who raised your character and how they did it. If your character is a pure elf and was raised in Malinor, perhaps make an elvish name using the language. If they were raised by humans, perhaps use the internet-based generator.

Don't forget the standard elves. Y'know, the pure elves who do not belong to any bloodline/sub-race. They're few and rare, I know, but they're still worth mentioning.

I'm glad you left the Mali'Aheral from Haelun'or separate, as Puritans. That way people don't think they're all meant to be like that.

I'd like to note a couple things for the guide:

First of all, wood eleven eyes tend to come in the blue/green/brown. Other colors would come from interbreeding with the other subraces. They're also the only subrace that dryads come from.

Additionally for Dark Elves, Velulaei isn't viewed as an ascended. She is viewed as the aengul of the moon by believers.

EDIT: And just because, a note on the words that denote familial relationship: https://www.lordofthecraft.net/topic/19254-recovering-the-ancient-tongue-of-the-elves/page-33#entry770861

llir: sibling/cousin/friend
malii: child/son/daughter

@Katherine - The information on dark elves and valulei comes from someone who has been with the oldest clans for a long time, as for woodelves i am going off the wiki, we are trying to teach the new players basic stuff, not hurl a bunch of information that will be learned in game later

@wardog - shhhh, no one needs to know

@Jax - same as above, i barely knew half the elven words.

*Clears throat*

'This tint is complemented by their hair, which is usually blonde, though silver and light brown hair is not unheard of.'

Right off the High Elven Wiki page, yes there seem to be pure High Elves with light brown hair.

Don't question what I strive for. *Proceeds to hide behind Donshanda, scared of the oncoming mali'aheral.*

Dark Elven height does not range up toward 6'4 - they had been considered human in height before, so they should reach up, uncommonly, toward 6 feet in total. Additionally, common eye-colors should consist of green and blue, but with shades of red or purple being more rare. Blue and red heterochromia is an Oussana trait and not the only variation of the condition often present in separate family lines.

I rarely see 6 ft tall dark elves. I rarely see 6 ft tall anything. Elves are usually taller than humans no matter the subrace. Having a 6'4" dark elf wouldn't matter a whole lot seeing as most human characters are already 6'2" on average. The problem comes when you have an elf who is 6'10 - 8ft.

It is clearly stated that wood elves are indeed shorter than the average human.

and clearly stated in the wiki the heights, so yeah.

*pouts at Swg.* My dark elves ranged from 6'2 to 5'9, and the one of 5'4 but that was a health issue
