Open Discussion: Is Simpler Better?

Today I would like to present the following question to the community - feel free to respond however you like, as this thread is meant for open discussion and opinions: Would LotC be better off being simpler? Should we continue to get more and more complex as more and more plugins are implemented onto the server, or should we be working toward a simpler system and environment for our new and old players alike? Should we continue to restrict or add more and more rules for the betterment of the server, or perhaps the exact opposite would lead to such "betterment"? Currently, many would assume that the direction we are headed isn't leading to a bright future, while others would argue that assumption. Some discussions have begun behind the scenes, and I would like to present this question to the community so that I may begin to gather opinions and feedback regarding such an idea.

With the launch of 4.0 and the introduction of our main antagonist, should we begin to cut back on complex systems, plugins, and rules (i.e. crafting, Nexus regions, our massive rules list, resource decay)? I would argue that we should.

First.

In my opinion, things should be simply presented to the players, but the things we can do behind the scenes (plugin-wise) are endless. Nexus worked out pretty well, although I would love to see magic come around, and the antag plugin is also pretty straight forward. The rules are a bit much, to be honest.

Yes absolutely. The only things we need are chat plug ins, and that's it.

If you look at every attempt to make lotc 'realistic' or 'enhanced' it fails. Look at our current terrible crafting plug in for example.

I like the crafting plugin and skills a lot but i dont think Nexus Regions are needed at all. Sub regions can do the trick and just put baxk in the system where you have to pay minas to get a region.

Well, the crafting plugin isn't terrible, but nobody is gonna wait for all this cool stuff. Sure, it's all pretty nice and stuff but really it's super complex and you have to wait a long time for some things, where it just isn't worth waiting. I think the plugin would be fun but really all I see it as it taking away from rp. I also think we should consider restricting towns to the main capital and nearby cities, rp is really spread out and one thing I notice is new players have no idea where to play and simply just leave

A poll would be nice. I'd say the only plugins we need are magic and chat, the rest is just a nice bonus I guess. Keep in mind if we ever want to add anything the coders would have to implement it to work with Nexus for example, which I think would be a hassle. But at the same time I'm really not a technical person so I'll let others judge that, haha.

yes.

the best times for me on lotc were the earlier times when we didnt have any of the plugins we have now. i do think plugins are essential to the experience to a extent, though serious streamlining is needed. as mentioned already in this thread, the crafting system is probably the most annoying thing, like, i really dont understand what was wrong with vanilla crafting.

also nexus plots

edit edit edit:

good lord do something about rp being spread out, i see 100 people on the server and think i can have some quality banter, but i walk around for 10 minutes and find like 10 people.

Simpler = Better

Something I've learned on my years in LOTC!

Please remove any complications like the current nexus crafting/skills (I'm sorry Telanir while its real cool coding wise its just not cool RP wise)

I liked the old war systems, much simpler. 8 man raids and warclaims

Nexus regions I feel needs removal, I'm fine with everything else, as long as it's made simpler in some way. I miss placing RP signs and creating event areas like I did in Anthos, the current region system disallows creativity to a massive extent. Make all lands outside cities freebuild and have the ET and GMs occasionally clean up land scarring. Either that, or make the town pillars somewhat easier to get. I've lost 3, 2 of them lost to glitches. That's a lot of diamond lost, eh? I don't want to have to constantly grind to make myself a protected house.

Otherwise, like I said. I love the crafting and char cards and the like, it's all fun to use, skills are a beauty :D

I think more plugins are fine, as long as the players actually want them, and they actually work....

The crafting plugin needs revision, or eradication alltogether. I mean, I dont mind it, but imagine a new player! In its core, LotC is minecraft. The inability to, well, mine and craft tends to drive many people away.

I dont know how profession would work, but they are mostly functional, but need some revision.

Nexus Regions? No comment, I kind of /like/ the idea.

Raids. . .*shrug*. Touchy comment. I enjoy them being a dirty pvper. . .but they are toxic.

In my opinion, simple is good, but it is not THAT good. We need some sort of plugins to make the server more RP and less Factions. I would love Nexus if it was functional. I know 11,000 lines of code (or however much it was) is hard to maintain, but it can be manageable if more people are involved.

SIMPLER

-The crafting system is overcomplicated, and should be removed entirely. Waiting time sucks. There is nothing wrong with Vanilla.

-Regions are annoying and broken a lot. Remove

-Skills I like. Keep skills and the wierd loot you get from punching trees.

-COMPRESS THE MAP. RP is way too spread when everyone has their own Kingdom/Town/Tavern/House/Guild. Players need to be encouraged to join existing groups which already need players instead of making their own. There are fun experiences to be had if everyone would just come together. Good example is Oren. There are about 7 towns/cities in it, and almost all of them are usually empty. The players are there, but they're not active enough, to warrant their own settlement. It doesn't add RP to the server or help the experience. It DETRACTS from it. There is a point where RP is just simply TOO spread out, and I think we've just about reached it. Also, purge all those empty guilds sitting around on the forums.

Yes, simpler is always better. However, make sure it's simple in a way that it still contains the most elemental and important stuff within. Simple but not lacking is the rule.
