I don't think OP is on a high-horse, relax and give the guy some breathing space. All he wanted was to get some of his concerns off his chest, he wasn't acting all high and mighty. Though I enjoyed reading your spiel about names, nice rifle there bro.

 

Ultimately, I would like to say that LotC is here to provide the best possible experience that can cover the greatest amount of people. This means that the part where you bring in your creative minds is a key figure in keeping the gears grinding on our server. There is a thing such as too much I agree, but our community has cultivated a setting a lot different than the typical LotR or 15th century medieval environment you might imagine, it is unique in every which way.

 

Everything including creativity and customization is taken with boundaries, fedoras and business suits are over the top, so you shouldn't hesitate to report those to moderation if you would like it dealt with. There is little you can do about name choice and characters that are dangerously close to imitating anime because we don't live in LotC, so there will always be things leaking from our daily lives into the gameplay-- this is completely acceptable! We all do it, that is why roleplay is the way it is. My point to make here is, we have a massive community littered with bright minds and unique backgrounds so it is an uphill battle to confront that-- so instead work with it. So far that has served us brilliantly something like four years, roleplay the way you would like others to roleplay and influence them, just don't try to force it. :)

:c I'd like to say that 2x2 eyes aren't always a reference to anime or the such. I know that the reason I use 2x2 eyes is because of personal aesthetic preference (without the sparkles, I agree that sparkles are weird) and not because of some anime. I just think that 2x1/1x2 eyes aren't as rad as 2x2, despite being more realistic.

The server is mostly set to be in tune with the mechanics of minecraft. Redstone wiring acts as electricity. We mine for iron and stone and diamonds, who's to say we don't mine for metal as well? Along with the many talented blacksmiths on the server, surely someone created nuts and bolts and wrenches. The timeline of LoTC doesn't follow the timeline of our own real life.

Like someone above said, magic is more widely accepted than medevil times. The server isn't conformed to just regular rl medevil rules. It's just a fantasy server.

As for the hair, the world we live in has dyes made from flowers. Who's to say people don't get curious? Maybe the trend of dyeing hair caught on. It's not a timeline set in stone, it's flexible and very possible people dyed their hair in the world of LoTC. It's just a game. Don't let it affect you so much.

I agree with your skin rant, however. People often use modern skins that don't fit with the general, vague theme.

It wouldn't be called a circle-jerk otherwise. LotC within itself is a circle-jerk community far too similar to Reddit in it's own ways. Then again, most tightly knit family communities are.

 

Anywho, with 8 pages and 78 Replies I personally believe it would be best if this thread were just locked. OP and about thirty other people got their opinions out, and with Benz posting you know it's become a disaster. If anyone else wants to get their opinion out they're free to create their own Feedback/Rant thread.
