A Call To Order

8th of The Deep Cold, 1494

A cool, calming wind drifted through the lands of Athera, carrying with it the snow of winter nights. Through the sparse patches of clouds, a full moon was just on the rise as the sound of boots on stonework once more entered the ancient hall. Slowly but surely those that were called began to file into the chamber as they arrived, knocking snow from their cloaks and drawing back their hoods. With naught but muttered greetings and the occasional nod, the assembled took their places, expectantly waiting for someone to speak. A single Dwed stepped forward, peering out from his hood at the gathered Dwedmar. Reaching up slowly he grasped the edge of his hood, drawing it back to get a better few at those who came and showing those who came the one that called them.

((Normal Speech))

“And once again our Order gathers… My kin… Long has it been since we last met, and many a face have we lost from our ranks. Yet many a new face has joined us you may see. Honorable selections all of them.”

He pauses briefly as he turns in place, looking again to all the new Dwed who stand silently waiting. He looks down for a moment, playing with the Corundum ring on his finger before looking back up to the assembled.

“Perhaps you all know why I have called you once more… Though, should you not, I will explain. It has long weighed on my mind the end of our time… Not my death or your deaths, no… We have all given our lives and full measures to the Grand Kingdom. Fought for it. Bled for it. And for some...died for it. Yet now the nation we held so dear casts us out, one by one. Thrown into the darkness as one would through scraps to a dog. My friends… This is no way to live. Exile and wandering is not the way of our people. We are far stronger when we unite and stand firm and resolute beside our brothers. Whether in the midst of battle or the midst of a bar brawl, we Dwed have always survived when we stood by our own.”

He pauses once more, looking to the assembled. Running a hand through his beard, he watches as his words sink in.

“My brothers and sisters. I do not suggest we return to this ‘Grand Kingdom’. Long since has it been the continuous cycle of corruption and the search for power in the ranks of the Dwedmar of that once great nation. The system has broken and only to late did I realize the futility of attempting to fix the system using the system that was broken. No… I will not return now… But I propose to you, my true kin and those that have stood by me and stood by your beliefs since the beginning, that we begin anew. That we forge our own halls and tenants by which to live and work. That we rebuild the once great forges of our forefathers. That we build our own place for those of astounding faith and equal passion for our kind…

And still further, I propose that we watch… And wait… Until such a day comes that we can  look back to this old, dying nation and see growth and honor or see that we live to raise this new land to a higher standard than the Grand Kingdom ever held. No more needless violence called down on us by the warmongering masses and corrupt council. No more wars against friendly nations declared by the overwhelming force of more powerful clans. No… We shall go now and forge our own path. Our own ways. Our own home.”

He falls silent as the room around him erupts in shout of approval and the pounding of boots against the hard stone.

Lilum begins laughing, as the senile Dwarf speaks of a time that only existed during his reign, and that Balek has done more than he has done in the past few months than he ever had. He also thinks he should have done more research on the current kingdom before running off to start his own kingdom that would probably house two to three Dwed, all stark.

Grand King Balek Irongut slowly rises to his feet upon hearing Zahrer's speech. He gently taps his staff on the stone pavement as he looks over the amassed crowd. Clearing his throat and rolling his shoulders, he utters a response to the the old grand king.

"It's been eh long toime, friend. Long gone is yer kingship, n' da struggles yeh faced during yer reign We've been at tha brink ov destruction, and lost more dwarves than we 'oo stand 'ere today, can count on our 'ands. But now, we've amassed once more tu rebuild eh Kingdom broken."

"Guilds 'ave been restored, tha Legion is growin' and so is da economeh. Ye are all nay just witnesses ov eh great restoration, yeh /are/ da very restoration incarnate. With tha Senate votin' tu leave da North, Kazradin is once more da center ov power n' progress, unoited as one."

"And now, after all dese years absent from da Kingdom,  ye return onleh tu see through t'at our revoival is undone? This is nae'fin but an insult tu yer own people. Tha Grand Kingdom is rising, with or without ye, Zahrer Irongrinder. And it shall with certainty, nae' die at tha' 'ands ov such eh dis'onourable individual as yerself."

"Renounce yer irrational n' baseless assumptions. Seek forgiveness, n' return tu tha Kingdom tae' take part in its restoration, er do nae' return at all",

Balek concludes with a stern look on his face, shaking his head.
