What Makes A Good Map?

After having a discussion with a few other Halflings, I've got a question I'd like to raise to the community: what makes a Minecraft map truly great?

Personally, Asulon was my favorite because of its expansiveness. There were hundreds of places to explore and secrets around every corner. It would take a fair journey to make it across the map, and it really made you feel small. The only improvement it could have had would have been fast travels to reduce that travel time for those who needed it. The scale was just awesome to me! However, many people don't like that because it doesn't focus RP.

What do you think?

Alot of land so people can have their own plots and not ***** on the forums that the road looks stupid with so many forts.

Biomes that dont stop after a few minutes, and speaking of that, bigger and more diverse biomes.

Also cool natural landscapes, like huge mountain chains, ravines, giant lakes, giant rivers, giant forests, etc.

One day, I will want a natural wonder of the world on a map and get all the culture points.

Land, lots and lots of land. I don't give a **** about travel times, it added to the experience of traveling between nations in Asulon and made it feel like a big deal because of the distances between them, it gave a perspective of a certain depth to me. A map ultimately is good based on what you can do in it, and you can do a lot more in a bigger map.

A large map , with very little vegetation and mountainous ranges along the journey between key destinations. The problem with Anthos was that most capitals had large bits of forest or hills surrounding them , meaning that only one road or path could be used to arrive. For a good map to work , capitals have to be spread out far enough between each other , but there needs to be very small forests or hills in the way between them. Keep the forests out of the way , and the mountain ranges near the 'backs' of capitals.

Larger, more immersive map. Bigger biomes, you get it. Make it so there is a feel of depth, and distance between everything..

That reminds me of the road to Abresi at the start of the map. You'd get ambushed by so many mobs because the forest was so thick along the roadside.

A small map where RP is accessible, and the land is pure freebuild. A pure vanilla experience with no bullshit intrusive plugins that drive people nuts.

Oh and an MC Generated map.

Example: Elysium.

Elsyium was nice as a temp map but it was too small for a main map(which usually last around a year compared to Elsyium which was like a month or two).

You have to think about it. There is a reason why I chose Elysium as an idea map. Accessible roleplay that was a pita to find in Asulon and Anthos. A map small enough that even isolationists will have roleplay at their doorstep. It was a great experience.

Yeah but it was getting really crowded with settlements towards the end. Still it was probably the most fun I've had on the server since I was really new back in early Aegis.
