Races And Druidic Magic

 Share

Recommended Posts

So today I was reading on the wiki and I was looking at some races, specifically Cervitaurs and Bryophites. Bryophites are characters whos body has been replaced with plants, and Cervitaurs are basically centaurs. Some restrictions I read is that Cervitaurs can't use magic, and Bryophites cant learn anything after theyve transformed.

If Bryohpites are literally attuned and made out of nature and can commune with it, why cant they become a Druid and practice its magic. Also Cervitaurs literally worship the Aspects, so it doesnt make sense that they cant become Druids. I propose that they are allowed to become Druids. Any feedback would be nice, thank you :)

Byrophites can learn deity magic, so Druidism.

As their bodies are plants, they have a slightly easier time connecting with nature than other simpler races. They have an easier time learning druidism, but can't become any stronger than other druids simply due to being a bryophite, because of their nature from the previous race they had belonged to.

In the original lore I stated,"During the Replacement, the Verridian Moss can’t replicate some parts of the brain as well as other sections of the body. While not stupid or even simple minded, Bryophites are not genius. This results in most Bryophite having a hard time becoming a scholar, enchanter or alchemist unless it was already learned before hand.” As clarification, Bryophites can learn most Deity magic, it's just difficult for them to learn things which take large amounts of understanding, or large amounts of new knowledge.

edit:

Also, this is said about the Cervitaur

-Cannot use any other magic beyond communing with nature.

Yah, what Space said. I asked Menarra (Lore Head) specifically and he said it was fine.

edit: in regards of Bryophites learning Druidism

Cervituars are an event faction so they have their limitations and weaknesses. I don't see a real issue with Cervituars learning druidism since they are made of plant-life just like the byrophite but they should stay away from voidal shiz.

I do not support the notion of Byrophite attunement. It seems more viable for these Cervitaurs, but Byrophites are somewhat of unnatural anomalies; the person that the moss took over is technically not the same person, and their God-given mortal bodies had been converted into a mimicked mess of flora and nature-aligned organic matter instead of flesh. One must acknowledge Druidic aspirations and culture to understand that they wouldn't, or at least shouldn't, allow attunement of these creatures. At it's core, Byrophite conversion is an affront to the creation of the Creator, and the Aspects shouldn't have a particular favor toward them because leaves grow from their fingertips and because their hair turned into mossfros, which is similar to Lichdom, if you try to blur the broad differences away and focus on the more acute similarities. Point being, Byrophites are abominations that are controlled by over-ambitious plantlife that obviously needs more daily doses of glorious Druidic purging, and should not be eligible for channeling the powers of Gods of worldly balance.

Seeing as the moss is a natural, living thing, the Aspects would not care. Bryophites RP consistently with us Druids. There is no issue that would keep them from being attuned. And to say that they are "unnatural" because of plants sprouting from their bodies isn't true. That would make Druids like Lillith, who has reed hair, and Callax, Milo, and Ouity (who have bark skin) unnatural abominations.

The moss is also a natural, living thing that unnaturally enslaves the bodies and minds of people and unnaturally turns their natural, living flesh into unnaturally-converted plant-flesh and plant-oriented organic matter. I compared Byrophites to Liches because the process of their turning is similar - both entities are created by mortal means and are a direct violation or alteration of the mortal existence, which is something that the Creator, which is the undefined leader of the Aenguls and Daemons (who isn't confirmed to exist, though can be assumed as a past figurehead or leader as per his/her/its formation of the universe), formed himself. Byrophite moss steals mortal bodies, often without their general consent and by unawares, and controls their minds like a super-parasite after the body itself is eviscerated and turned into a mass of plant-life that does not function like all other plant-life does, excluding Ents, whom are giant treemen whose existence is condoned by the Aspects because they created them.

The suggestion that plant-like alterations to mortal bodies would be the same as Byrophite conversion is inaccurate, as any plant-like additions to Druids are on behalf of their connection to the Aspects - they are effects that come as a result of the Aspects' power, and are likely condoned because, again, the Druids serve the Aspects. You don't see any people besides Druids with reed hair or bark skin, do you? The deific preference is in place for Druidic individuals and entities. Byrophites are not in this spectrum, and have developed a means to unnaturally ascend to a status similar to a descendants' mortality by corrupting their bodies with natural elements to keep themselves sustained. Byrophite existence conflicts with Druidic dogma.

Cervitaur are technically made of plant matter, and also a little closer to animals than people. Bryophites are plants that killed and copied a host body. Plants usually can't be attuned, which goes for cervitaur, and it would make sense if it also goes for bryophites.

I don't believe its possible to use the Creator for a means of lore, Swgr. Since, as you said, he isn't yet determined to exist, and is really only revered by humans, specifically Orenian humans (Or others that fall around that area) and then the Clerical orders as well. The Aspects don't actually fall under that category like Tahariae and Xan, and whichever other Clerical Aenguls/Daemons do.

Also, Bryophites are living things of nature, not voidal creations (As far as I know), the same for Cervitaurs. The Druids really only consider void magic, and some other types of deity magic (Iblees Undead, the old Ikuras stuff, that sort of thing) as unnatural.

Now, I could be wrong, I'm still a tad rusty on my Druid lore.

I wasn't using the Creator as a basis to dismiss Byrophite attunement, I was using the Creator as an understanding as to what can be classified as unnatural. Again, this is why I compared Byrophites to Liches - they are both anomalies or "unnatural" states that are not achieved by natural means. Bones and lifeforce are natural forces or objects, and are both essentials to the creation of Liches, but Liches cannot be attuned because they are "unnatural" creatures. Moss and plant-life are natural elements, and Byrophite moss is, well, moss or plant-life, but mortal beings that they convert into plant people shouldn't be able to be attuned because they're a violation of nature. The Creator is relevant in this because it can be that Aenguls and Daemons (which are what the Aspects are) can be surmised as divine entities that are aligned, at least some what (excluding the rebellious ones) to the Creator's laws, whether or not the Creator still exists or ever has. Seeing as Tahariae, Xan and Aerial are directly capable of combating unnatural beings, like the undead races, further suggests there is an overall deific agreement on what is unnatural - things that are godless and exist by powerful or deeper means without the assistance of divine power.

Now, Byrophites aren't undead, and they possess and control mortal bodies in a more nature-aligned manner than undead creatures retain their existence, but they are still a violation. They're impure things by technicality and do not abide by natural law of the Aspects.

I've elaborated on this interpretation when a much simpler one was already around, though. Birdwhisperer put it quite plainly.

The roleplay ideas section is being cleaned up.

Bryophite lore has been updated, and I hope the Cervitaur question has been answered. If you have any more questions, you can pm me, or ask in the Magic Q/A or Lore Q/A. Thread moved to archives.
