Bloodline Laws - Laureh'lin

 Share

Recommended Posts

Since the dawn of Leyulin up to now, the elves of Laureh'lin have and will continue to abide by the laws of conduct that keep our children safe, and their lives long, and our society respectable.

Interbreeding -

The willful and voluntary act of condemning your child to double the curses he would normally be born with. To rob a child of a near millenia of life, without the choice of the child taken into account. The shortsighted deed of allowing one's lust and unwillingness to wait to bring an eternity of tragedy on one's family.

Decency -

The act of treating ones self with self respect. The abstinence from taking on the appearance and mannerisms of one deemed socially unstable, inept, or irresponsible. To dress reasonably, to wear ones hair and facial features in their natural form, and carry themselves in a socially acceptable manner.

The laws are as follows;

Bloodline Laws

All full citizens of Laureh'lin must be of full elven blood, meaning Mali'ker, Mali'aheral, Mali'ame, or a mix of the three. Meaning their parents must have been a full-blood of one of aforementioned three races, or as stated, a mix of the three. A citizen is someone who holds permanent residence in the city, or holds any form of occupation.

All romantic or sexual relations of any type inside the borders of Laureh'lin must be between two individuals of full Mali'ame, Mali'ker, or Mali'aheral blood, or a mix of the three.

Laureh'lin may house no more than five non-elves at a time. These non-elves must contain no less than half-elven blood in their heritage.

Any non-elves living or visiting the borders of Laureh'lin are forbidden, without exception, from engaging in any form of romantic or sexual relationship of any form.

Appearance Laws

A citizen of Laureh’lin is expected not to be un-natural or corrupted in any form. The criteria for this will be decided on a case by case basis and left to the discretion of the council

A citizen of Laureh’lin must be of a reasonable skin colour (fair, brown, black, not blue, purple, cyan, etc).

A citizen of Laureh'lin must have reasonable hair colour (natural reds, browns, blondes, silvers, black and other naturally occuring colours.) Bright neon colours of any variety are illegal, as well as the colours purple, blue, pink of any shade.

A citizen of Laureh'lin must wear reasonable attire (clothing made of socially acceptable material such as cloth, wool, or leather)

A citizen of Laureh’lin must not possess any un-natural bodily characteristics. Examples of this include tails, wings, fangs, and fur where fur should not be.

"Sad. I was always fond of the technicolor hair that the mali'ame have... It was easier to pick them out from the more decent mali." Says Iat, before giving his imaginary stamp of approval.

Elorna would write privately to Art.

"Most of these new laws are productive, though I fear you may be straying too close to the Mali'aheral dogmas of old. Please reavulate the direction you are heading. First of all, do you mean that citizens must be pure high elves or pure dark elves or pure wood elves, or that they must simply be fully elven, of whatever blend of subraces? I couldn't quite tell what you intended with this wording. Having an arbitrary number restricting the ammount of half-elves you take it is something i see causing you trouble in the future, and the number honestly has no meaning or purpose. And to be honest, some of these are just silly. Such as restricting hair color, that seems absurd and not worth the government's time or energy to care about, let alone regulate with laws.

Art pens a reply back.

"Elorna, I would think I don't need to explain to you why humans breeding with elves is an entirely different matter to elves breeding with elves of a different subrace. And nowhere is acid, molten-gold-in-the-eyes or any other sort of gruesome death part of our doctrine, or death at all for that matter.

One who changes his body arbitrarily is one who does not respect the natural order. In all honesty, dying your hair with beets and squashed leaves or whatever it is you drui do is fine, however it is these artificial alchemical mixes of bright ugly purples, blues and glowing vomit green which concern me.

Finally, if it were up to me we would house no half-breeds at all. We both know why interbreeding must be avoided. We will never stop it while we openly allow the spawn of the act to live among us unregulated. I do not begrudge them for their existence, but I do their parents for committing such an act. The fact of the matter is they are just as liable to spread the valah's curse to other elves as their human parent, and hence must be kept in small numbers and prevented from breeding."

A response is returned.

"I did say I agree that most of them are productive, human and elven breeding should be discouraged. But the specific number of half elves you'll take, what color you can dye your hair... these are just silly, and seem to be born out of a desire to control without logic or reason. I simply believe you are taking an unneeded turn toward stricter laws. Forbid elven and human relationships, but some of these laws go too far.

As for the number of half-elves allowed, in the previous towns weren't those who lived with an elven parent or other relative permitted? By limiting yourself to a random, arbitrary number you're simply going to cause problems as you have to consistently make exceptions. Simply say that anyone with human blood may not reproduce with an elf, and you must contain elven blood to live in town."

Art would recieve a letter from an old friend.

"Dear Art,

I noticed the new laws you put up, the non-human relation laws wasn't bad, honestly. The hair color one, however, sounds really stupid. It reminds me of my days in the Cihi, when I would look on helplessly as entrants were constantly berated for every small flaw with their person. Restricting how people look, just so it confines to your standards, is a seriously Kalenz move.

Please don't do it.

Sincerely, Nienna.

PS. I'm alive! If all goes according to plan, I'll be visiting you soon."
