Aspectism - A Guide to Offerings

To Aspectists, making offerings is a an important and symbolic part of the faith’s lifestyle. The wood elves know that it is by the Aspects’ grace that the druids were able to grow the behemoth trees in which they make their homes. By their favor that their fields produce bountiful crops, and the forests thick with game. They show their reverence and gratitude to the Aspects by giving gifts. In doing so, they secure the Aspects’ goodwill, and ensure that the natural order that the wood elven lifestyle relies on will continue to flourish.

Offerings are made in two places, at shrines dedicated to the Aspects, strewn all across Wood Elven lands, and in Fae rings. Fae rings are naturally occurring clearings in the wilds, allowing those who enter the ability to hear the sounds and voices of nature as any attuned druid would.

What and Who To Offer To

 

To best please the Aspects, it is customary to offer things that have strong ties to the natural world.

 

The gift or offering must never be wasteful; never offer something you could use, such as the carcass of an animal, the prize of a hunt. Wastefulness is a grave sin. Instead, offer what is left after it has been used. The bones or skull of a hunted animal is a common offering.

 

An offering should have meaning. The gift an elf presents to the Aspects should be representative of their values and desires. For example, one who wishes for good hunting would offer a single arrow, a token of luck. One who wishes for family and the fertility would offer a blooming flower, representing the new life they wish to conceive.

Finally, it is important one makes their offering to the correct Aspect.

 

Cerridwen is the mother of life, fertility and growth. Cernunnos the father of predators, hunt, and death.

 

If one’s offering symbolizes growth and life, then the gift must be given to Cerridwen’s shrine, or in her name. If the offering is tied in death, such as one revolving around the hunt, then the gift must be given to Cernunnos.

 

Commonly bestowed offerings:

 

Arrows - To appeal to Cernunnos for luck on a hunt

 

Animal bones and skulls - To pay tribute to Cernunnos after a successful hunt

 

Blooming Flower - An offering to Cerridwen to bring fertility to one’s family

 

Paints or artwork, pearls, shells, turquoise  - To show gratitude for Cerridwen’s beauty.

 

Worn, replaced weaponry - To show gratitude for Cernunnos’ aid in battle.

((It might be a good idea to link to the fairy ring lore. As people may not understand truly the effects that they have, especially as the effects of a fairy ring do not actually give someone the ability to use communion, which is a common misconception that may be had by those who read this post. Other than that though, looks interesting.))
