Condemnation of the Voidal

The Arcane is a school of magic whose true corruption is lost on the common man. We all see when a rogue pyromancer burns down our forests, or when a conjurationist commits the ultimate affront to the Aspects by creating an abhorrent imitation of life. But unless you are attuned to the two themselves, you do not truly understand the damage that the void wreaks on our world.

There are two worlds, ours- and that of the void. In times before memory a veil existed between these two dimensions, barring one from entering the other, keeping our natural realm safe from voidal horrors. This barrier was not to last. It is not known how this veil was torn, or why, but it is one of history’s greatest tragedies.

With the veil gone any fool with enough patience could draw in power from the void, and every time they did- OUR world suffered. Void magic warps and corrupts the very foundations of natures’ balance in a way only those truly connected to our world can understand. The mixing of the void and our realm corrodes and corrupts, for mortals were never meant to be able to harness the void’s power.

In truth, the Arcane is as vile as the dark arts of necromancy, harbingers and frost witch's curse. Infact, any magic drawn from the void should be considered a ‘Dark Art’ for the damage it does to the very foundation of the world. However, unlike necromancy it does not look traditionally sinister- how much more evil can one get than reviving corpses, after all? Alas, looks can be deceiving.

Just as necromancers do, Arcane mages find their bodies deteriorating. This alone should be a clear sign that our mortal forms are not meant to contact the infinite void. Sadly this is not enough to deter the most dense of people, so our world is polluted with voidal users.

Laureh’lin is an Emerald Isle blessed to have the Aspects watching over its denizens. We are a bastion of respect for the natural balance, and the Aspectist and druidic ways of the Wood Elven people keep our land pure from the corruption of the void. To continue to allow arcanists to taint our land is an insult to our culture, our traditions, and the entire realm.

  • From this day forward no citizen of Laurelin may learn any form of voidal magic.

Whether or not the blood of the forgotten folk run through your veins, all elves of this land are ‘ame in spirit. To return to our old ways, we must purge the blemishes that came in with the new.

((I love that picture. I need more of that in my life.

The Hare Druid skims over the new law that has been passed, a slight smirk playing across his face. "Wonder how long it will be before this one gets broken," he sighs, shaking his head. "About time this law got spread to the rest of the island." He pins the flyer back to its spot on the signboard and shuffles off, his falcon resting on his shoulder. He glances up at the bird, a wry grin on his features. "I'll bet you a fieldmouse it gets broken within a week. Not a bad law though. Not bad at all."

[i} The Elder Druid looks over the notice and smiles.  "It appears that the Aspects return their favour to the Elves, I am glad to see them returning to the old ways."

The Prince would nod firmly after approving of Artimec's new law. "And now we begin to choke the corrupted voidal practitioners of what little space they have." he'd say loudly to those who happened to be near him in Laurelin, his lips splayed into a thin grin before spreading Orders to the remaining Sirame for it to be enforced.

"Didn't you see a few shades at Laureh'lin's Ball?" The student inquires.

"Yeah, I did. Along with a few other dark arts users and I think one frostie." Katari nods in acknowledgement, yawning quietly afterwards.

"If they can't even keep dark mages out, how can they expect to handle voidal magic?"

"They're just pretty words, don't look too much into it. Besides, there's plenty of other places for us to be. Did you finish up your application for the Order of Magi?"

"In a moment..."

Archembalt hears of the passing of the law from outside the walls of Laureh'lin. He guffaws.

"Isn't Artimec's son a Shade, though? This is getting too good!"

A certain crispy critter eyes the notice with a scowl. She crossed her burnt arms, realizing one of her closest friends practiced voidal magic. She hoped the new wouldn't effect him too much before scampering off back to her burrow.
