Provided you don't use 'gender bending' to fulfill your sexual fantasies, I don't see much wrong with it. But many people abuse the possibility to fulfill said desires. This might be why the person took offense. We're in Medieval times, homosexuality isn't a common thing. (Whilst this is a unique universe, the majority of it is inspired from various universes where homosexuality is too uncommon or even unheard of) So this person might have taken the guise of homosexuality to be your method of fulfilling your sexual fantasies. Whilst I'm not accusing you, I'm stating that it may be the reason for their grievance.

As I said, I don't see a problem with playing a female character, I myself have a depiction of certain character roles (such as healers, herbalists..etc) being female. I simply see females as being the more 'kind' of character archetype and thus if I was to play one, I'd most likely be a female character.

I'm only trying to point out what this person may have perceived you as doing. Otherwise, I wouldn't have any idea of why they'd be upset by such a thing.

We're not medieval times. It's LotC. It's completely separate from IRL **** like that. Homosex is clearly not as much of a rarity as it was in 1000's.

Also, I'm pretty sure that second statement was mildly sexist, but I'll let it pass, dw.

As I stated, LotC is a unique universe, but derives itself from universes we know. If it's not obvious enough... (Dark Elves are literal clones from Elder Scrolls. Orcs are very similar from the Warcraft Universe. Kharajyr are literally from Elder Scrolls. Even Magic itself are from other universes...such as some recent magic lore and a certain game called 'Dark Souls 3'.) Hence why I stated whilst it's a unique universe, it derives much of its content from established universes, and thus would promote the case I described.

The second statement is my personal depiction, if you're offended by my personal idea of what a generalized character is.. then there isn't much I can do for you.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with playing characters of different sexual orientations. I think most people will only get annoyed when you make your character's sexuality their defining trait, and rightfully so.

I don't care about genderbending unless one of the two following occurs;

1) The character is unrealistic. In this context an example would be a guy creating a girl with triple D **** who is a total **** or whatever and basically is only being played as a virtual sex object for the person playing it. That's weird and I don't enjoy rping with these kinds of characters and degrades rp in general so I really do not support this type of genderbending.

2) Lying about yourself OOCly in a deliberate attempt to deceive other people. Dishonesty is bad in general and it causes drama bullshit so this should be avoided.

The GM James, also known as Grungron ICly is indeed an old ass man and bearded dwarf Irl.

Though like everyone else is saying it's not really a big deal if you play a man, woman, manwoman, or womanman ICly. As long as you are having fun on this server that is what matters. If this person thought you were lying, or tried to make fun of you that is their problem as they are problem not mature enough to understand it. You do you.

Genderbending is about as deceptive as 90% of players who play an attractive and strong warrior.

As long as you don't lie about your gender OOC'ly, an example being if that person had asked if you were a female OOC'ly and you replied yes, otherwise I'd say go for it.

Personally one of the stupidest arguments I've ever had on this server has been along the lines of whether or not you should be allowed to portray a character that doesn't share your gender. The reason it's stupid is that it's roleplay, in roleplay the character is female, your character is male/female, and it should stay there. The people who argue otherwise lead me to believe they were trying for some relationship OOCly, which is very creepy to be honest. These types of things should be expected anyways if you participate in roleplay of any type.

In conclusion, my own thoughts are:

If you feel you can correctly portray a female character, then by all means let nothing stop you. But if you can't, then I would appreciate that you didn't.

Unlike the other plebs however, I am infact a necro irl

In the end its a game, a Roleplay game that we all go on to act out as a fake character that we thought up. If people have an issue with a man playing a woman or vise versa then that is simply a maturity issue, and a misconnection between understanding that the people you RP with in LOTC aren't the people behind the computer but the character that they created, the person on the other side shouldn't even be an after thought. IRL I'm not an Elf and I sure as hell don't say "Aye", that is Fuze, the person you talk to and the person you see.

dae shakespeare plays!11//??!??!///

in reality, romantically? i think its a bit weird. i don't enjoy romantic rp either so. comically or in a humorous manner? why not, not my cup of tea as i've grown up, but w/e.

people who lie about being a woman irl when they play a woman are scum, get that sjw bullshit out of here. be honest and present yourself, if you play a woman and you're a dude, take that **** as your own, don't be a pansy and try and pretend to be something you're not.

"but mr. kincaid, i sexually identify as a fluent elfen busty female sorceress!"

screw off, some people get creeped if they aren't fulfilling their love character development with an actual woman, or vice versa, something i can understand. if i found out the rp wife i had was some cheeto huffing wildebeest, i wouldn't be thrilled either.

Anyone else remember Aegis when everyone used to just assume females played females and males played males xD then after a while everyone was feeling bad and there were so many 'coming out' posts. it felt so taboo back then I even used a second account to play a female druid.

RP discrimination isn't against the rules so if you play a gender bender of any kind and others find out, you can easily be hunted down by the inquisition and burned at the stake, at least that's what we do to sodomites in Felsen. Basically, this is a medieval fantasy roleplaying server, expect people to literally get medieval on you for gender bending.

Fuckin savage

I personally find romance rp in general to be fairly cringey so I avoid it. However I know that some people refuse to rp romance if the 'pilot' of their IG significant other isn't the correct sex / orientation. Will you get flak for gender bending, yeah you probably will. However as long as you aren't playing some cringey promiscious character (@Razam) then you should be fine.
