Should technologically "old" and limited firearms be allowed for roleplay?

But LoTC isn't WoW or Warhammer it's best related to the likes of LoTR.

LoTC really doesn't seem close to LoTR anymore, only be the name. The descendants nor the world follows the song, I don't know if man, elf, or dwarf got cursed either. I also don't think orcs and uruk-hai were the product of mud and Elves.

Why not treat technology and its gadgets much like magic? With applications and such. The applicant would have to explain where they obtained the firearm from, with credible sources for that. And make it so that people can be blacklisted from using them as well, if they powergame.

From my experience Oren ranges from 13th to 14th century Europe and seeing medeival levies carry rifles around would be weird. Guns would stick out like a sore thumb with the elves as well. Just not a great fit IMO.

I'd place Oren more in the 16th or even 17th centuries tbh.

Similar to others above, I don't like the idea of guns, especially not flintlocks (which are not very early as far as gun designs go), because it wouldn't fit the setting. I don't care if other fantasy settings had them or that they developed historically, they would ravage my immersion so I don't want them.

The potential dredge of terrible RP and incessant attempts at improvement will make it more effort than it's worth. I also don't think it fits with the general theme.

m-muh aesthetic...

In all seriousness though, I'm very iffy on this. I think people will power-game regardless with bows/magic. etc, and you can basically already make things similar to firearms with enchanting/arcanism, sooooooo. Hm. Maybe?

Definitely not... While I agree that tech advances would be interesting, it just really doesn't fit LOTC as a whole. And to further that, if they're going to be as effective as a bow or a crossbow what's the friggen point of even having a gun put in?

This has also been discussed before, at least twice since I've joined the server. Isn't this just beating a dead horse at this point?

Which I'll admit doesn't make much sense since we don't have gunpowder weaponry which made the European cultures that Oren is based off how they were in those days.

It's fine that you don't think it fits the theme, everyone is entitled to their own opinion! I just want to see this have a test run.

I...

I don't see the harm in it. As for it "not fitting the theme", considering we have arcane and dwarven engineering (Rune cannons, steampowered naval vessels, extremely-difficult-to-create LIGHTSABERS), I don't see how it'd ruin the theme already established. We don't have to go full steampunk, and simple firearms don't qualify as that. It's Renaissance weaponry at the most, and that doesn't ruin the high fantasy feel of LotC.

No. NO. NO. NOOOO. A million times and a half, no. Please. No. Just no.

This is so wrong. This is...ugh. Please, please don't make me sit through bullet flying RP. Please. Someone will ******* Matrix that ****. You know they will. This is a high fantasy server. We are not an MMORPG like WoW or any of that. It's fantasy roleplay. Pulling out a gun and firing it at a person? Even if it is an old style gun...NO! It makes zero sense for a server like this.

This is also one of those slippery slope things. Once you put in a gun, you allow the thought to be there for other things of that era, even fantasy things. I swear to god...if I log in to a Skywhale fighting with an airship, people firing guns at each other, I am leaving.

My honest to God only qualm is you can't carry a loaded bow and crossbow around...the string would eventually stretch rendering the projectile non-fatal. A guns only real issue was when it got wet. Even that was solved with flintlocks because you can still fire a weapon when it's raining as long as the powder itself is dry inside the chamber. So theoretically someone could be carrying around a pistol with a cork in the end and it'd still fire....insta-projectile.

I have gone on record in a skype chat about 15 minutes ago that I would totally be on board for 10th century Chinese gunpowder rockets (like in Mulan) so interesting you linked this

To everyone saying that it does not fit the theme, are you truly satisfied with the technological and magical stagnation that we're having at the moment? It's always the same exact things, and it's honestly getting quite boring.
