Should technologically "old" and limited firearms be allowed for roleplay?

Yes, I am very happy. It is not boring at all to people like me who are more focused on actually roleplaying, progressing a character, etc. than they are with fighting.

Actually roleplaying? I guess all the militaries, soldiers and people that engage in conflict do not roleplay. Thanks for the insight, I did not know that.

The last thing I need is a gun being pulled on me in the middle of the road.

This makes no sense. You can have someone pulling a knife on you, a bow, a ******* ballista, it would be the same exact thing. Considered that by your own admission your character does not fight, he/she/it wouldn't be able to defend him/her/itself anyway. Guns don't change that.

To reiterate before the coming storm:

All degrees of power and damaging capability can be altered and designed before implementation. Powergaming from these guns would be like powergaming from bows and crossbows.

To reiterate my reiteration, and put this in a much more simplistic light, this post is to discern the community's thoughts toward adding the aesthetic of gunpowder firearms to LoTC, not it's power and advanced stopping power. No applications are needed, no super involved moderation, no big lore, because it's pulling in an aesthetic that mimicks the killing ability of what we already have. I didn't make a thread seeing if people were okay with advancing into the Renaissance. :b

In certain ways, the gun was similarly injurious to something like a heavy draw-weight crossbow. The musket had pretty **** range and good penetration, and created a hole comparable in size to a quarrel from a crossbow. And, muskets are super dope too, so.

My initial reaction to this was NO ABSOLUTELY NOT , but after reading through the comments, I see what y'all are saying. I would say only very gradually introduce them, have some sort of application progress to limit powergaming, and have a time limit on reloading them (mechanically and rp'ly.)

I agree. If your gonna do it have an application. If you can RP it correctly why not? But we dont need meme bandits running into a tavern and shooting 6 ppl in 10 seconds before running off.

I would like to see some technological advancements in LotC. If this was implemented would the LMs be able to make an official guide on roleplaying with these fire arms. I don't want to see new players running around duel wielding pistols and reloading them as fast as modern assault rifles.

Please do not do this. I typically like to think that the era of the server is relatable to the period of time that LotR and GoT exist in and I think that adding this will ruin that and change the general tone to the server. I really just do not want to see this-

If people would like to see some technological advances I think that this-

or this-

Image result for renaissance technology

I believe that if firearms are allowed there will be a massive abuse and that it will soon after be redacted (which will only create issues with people claiming to still have firearms from when they existed in Axios). I hope that this does not make it into the server, and that people find other ways to advance technology through RP.

Yes, please. Just keep it at that. I would love to see the advent of musket era military roleplay. Just keep it balanced, like you said. A bow is a bow but can also be a crossbow; and a bow is a bow but can also, if this happens, be a flintlock weapon. Maybe add crafting recipes too anyway, for some varied styles or something. I'd just like to have a nice lored up item "Flintlock Rifle" or something, lol.

Additionally, consider adding very early cannons. Naval roleplay is ******* great. I play some games exclusively to get the thrill of naval combat. The cannonade tearing the hull apart; the shout of highborn captains buried below the rumblings of the disciplined crew as they load, fire, load, fire, load and fire again; etcetera. It's fun ****. It's a long shot but plugins for naval combat would be great. I've seen on other servers, using MoveCraft and some other plugins, actual naval combat on huge scales. Ships saling about, firing cannons and shooting bows like madman, ships taking damage until one sinks and the survivors are taken prisoner or killed.... Fun stuff.

Honestly, though, keep it there. LotC is, at its core, medieval and if you want to stretch it, late medieval / early rennaisance. Descending further opens a whole nasty can of beans as we may upset the very core of what makes LotC, well, LotC, and although it could be great, I think the medieval aesthetic is a core of our identity as a server. Kings, elves, dwarves and dragons go hand in hand with LotC. New emergent types of roleplay being added as time goes on - like this new gun bit, for example - spice things up but we should always be careful not to move too far from the core of what Lotc is.

Tl;dr yes please because this would make military roleplay much more fun and just add another little piece of roleplay aesthetic. I'd like to have m-muh musket era roleplay, but please be careful and don't forgot LotC's identity.

Void translocation enchanted pockets = you can have a loaded crossbow in the void which doesn't damage the strings so you can pull it out whenever and pop a bolt into someone. If that's one of the arguments people are saying against guns.

That being said, I'm going to have to say no to the idea, I'd rather we see technology expand in non-combative areas.

What they don't know is what a enchantment will give you C;

Can we just get cannons and explosives back tbh, guns can arguably be made if a mage is keen enough to do it anyway. Like all our lore could make a progression to make guns and they're just flashy, shitty crossbows.

Cannons are amazing for sieges and naval rp, oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo I love naval rp. This map is kinda built for it too but no-one is keen enough to make a navy or do piracy because of the lack of people and cannons. If you introduce the flintlock, just put a unique spin on it but it doesn't mean it'll become common place on the server. Crossbows were still arguably better than flintlocks until the development of rifles.

Yes, because Dwarven Engineering is being limited only by skygods. I disagree with the things above said, old firearms were untrusty, and weren't like new firearms, that are extensively tested to have 100% no mistakes. Arquebuses and so on had a big chance of blowing up or simply jamming/firing poorly, that RPed properly would be awesome, and maybe if it was accompanied by mechanics.
