Should technologically "old" and limited firearms be allowed for roleplay?

My honest to God only qualm is you can't carry a loaded bow and crossbow around...the string would eventually stretch rendering the projectile non-fatal. A guns only real issue was when it got wet. Even that was solved with flintlocks because you can still fire a weapon when it's raining as long as the powder itself is dry inside the chamber. So theoretically someone could be carrying around a pistol with a cork in the end and it'd still fire....insta-projectile.

You have to prime a flintlock. You can't just carry it around with fine-ground powder in the pan.

To everyone saying that it does not fit the theme, are you truly satisfied with the technological and magical stagnation that we're having at the moment? It's always the same exact things, and it's honestly getting quite boring.

It gets boring because staff absolutely abhors dynamic RP to be honest. I think the server would be a lot better without all the OOC invisible walls.

Yes, I am very happy. It is not boring at all to people like me who are more focused on actually roleplaying, progressing a character, etc. than they are with fighting. I do not fight. My character is 5 feet tall. She doesn't even wear shoes. At least I can run from a sword, or attempt to. The last thing I need is a gun being pulled on me in the middle of the road.

I LOVE the way things are. So, yes, I am very happy with the current technological stagnation.

I could see it used, but not without heavy regulation. The first "guns" weren't really around until 1346, and technologically we're further than that. We RPly have fireworks and gunpowder discovered. It's this point in the Civ game we're playing that they'd start to be used as weapons.

But I do not want  to see them for the simple fact of what they could possibly bring to the PGing scene. Fireworks already RPly could be argued as a weapon for their explosive properties, and how long they take to set up.

All a flintlock is, is a piece of stone that sparks when grinded against metal. You can make sparks in rain, albeit it'd likely take several tries.

Video for reference, you can even see that the metal covers the exposure hole to the gunpowder to help prevent the powder in the chamber from getting wet.

While we're at it lets also allow steam engines. And cannons. And analogous electronical devices. Heck lets walk the extra mile and invent gasoline as well. Then we can invent Apache attack helicopters. Then we can finally have gender equality in our RP setting.

Nope.avi.

You have to prime a flintlock. It's not steel and flint, it's steel flint and powder in the priming pan.

Anyway, I don't think that adding firearms would be the WORST thing, but I like the idea of making it a way of making an application for having a valid weapon so we don't have people running around using them like crazy? Perhaps introduce them through events?

I think we're both right on this one. There were several models. I yield. Albeit my point still remains, you can carry around a loaded pistol.

What is keeping a mage from engineering a magical gun already?

Instead of thinking of ooc reasons guns wouldn't do well on lotc (Ie. ruin immersion, power-gaming, etc...) think of an rp reason, what would rply stop people from designing guns?  I honestly can't think of anything considering we have all the necessary materials.

Of course, I suppose we could say the widespread existence and use of magic would make guns seem obsolete and thus no one would bother.

Never heard of a model that doesn't have to be primed. Just think of it, spark can't just straight-up lead to the load, since that'd need an opening too large.

Staff could just force people to at least prime their weapons in a one-emote-action. Taking a turn, for the least.

So long  there are numerous prototypes and experiments to advance into what we might consider a gun, but nothing modern day. Anything that functions like a modern weapon just needs to be left to magic.
