It won't be in the middle of nowhere. You did say there'll be pressure plates there for the players to step on. Means there'll be limited places in the world where one could do this. That said, it's been done for banditing and this has a chance for more loot than just road RP. Also, back to the camping, they could just camp the hardest to get to places, where people'd go to cash in their messages.

How could it not be the middle of nowhere? I gave an example of a literal, middle of nowhere volcano that a person who has that one specific clue to go to.

 

Lets just say there's 3 possible clue locations for each tier, one for each isle. And lets just say there's three tiers, Easy, Medium, and Hard.

 

That makes 9 possible locations that exist on the server where a player COULD have to go to. I never implied that getting a Hard Clue meant you got better loot, I implied that it'd be harder to reach. IE the parkour on Ceru's lava biome for the Obsidian Pillar. Any clue, of any difficulty, could share the same exact loot pool. Its just up to the fisher then, do I bother going for the hard clue for that chance of something shiny?

 

And so what if people actually stake out the treasure spots? Did pirates and treasure hunters never face peril and thieves? The fisherman would have a grapple hook most likely to help them escape as well.

 

Plus, like caskets, the Clue in the Bottle could now be sold to other players for them to go out and adventure for themselves. Which could create rp where a bandit sells an adventurer a cheap clue, sends them out into the wilderness with all his supplies, right into the hands of his companions waiting to ambush him.

 

Just because something COULD be 'abused', doesn't mean it shouldn't happen.

 

Its adventure. Its treasure hunting. Its meant to be risky.

This is a ******* bold-face lie. A grapple takes weeks to acquire and, since anything is now lockable, it's utterly worthless. There's no point using a grapple when everything you can get into is locked, and in combat it's too unreliable to use and is not widespread enough to allow any grapple teamwork. 

 

Is a grapple fun? Yes.

 

is it useful? No.

The fishing profession needs some edits to it and this post is a good start for fleshing out great ideas. I won't say my knowledge or fishing on lotc is superb but maybe adding different types of things you can do with fish, such as being able to collect fish scales. These fish scales (or certain type of scale) could be used to make armor and this armor could give you buffs for water combat. Maybe adding special items that can only be made out of stuff collected from fishing.

If you have a suggestion on what to propose for it then i'm all for it. Just gotta keep the discussion going.

 

Fisher bags can be now represented as Shulker boxes. 

 

Is this an idea to consider?

It makes fishing more fleshed out and you could possibly add shops to sell fishing gear and different options... Heck if you wanted a grapplehook, get fishers to be able to make it- though a one time use.
