The Alternative

1st Standard Issue Leaflet of the Constable’s Office.

Approved and commissioned by His Majesty, Marius of Haense.

To have a consensus amongst the architects of a state, is a naive ideal nobody realised. Every individual has their own perception of what is ‘Best’ or what is ‘Fair’, but why is that perception any more or less superior?

Oren inherently is an ideological compromise that managed to survive and grow through sheer political and military excellence. Hard, raw power that safeguarded the only consistent human nation to date. From this came a hereditary monarchy with civil institutions and a separated church; something that can and has often proven to be involving of the civil class and distantly-placed vassals. However; Oren is also inherently flawed like any human creation, for only the Creator is perfect in its nature.

Yet, Oren continued to exist in the wake of many alternatives both internal- and externally. They had societies with more- or less liberty, militarism, religion and et cetera.

They all became footnotes in Oren’s history, not vice versa. The offspring of the architects of Courland now preach to be yet another alternative for Oren; backed by a coalition of anti-poles and diversity that are known for inconsistency and internal struggle. The only reference we have to indicate their quality of statecraft, is their former Duchy of Courland.

Despite their recognized large quantity of numbers, Courland has made more territorial concessions to others than it has obtained from them. Furthermore, Courland had no successful effort to connect to the existing political framework of the Orenian Empire. No Courlander was ever a significant official, nor did their ethics and accomplishments give any reputation but an infamous one.  Understanding this, it must be of no surprise that Courland lacked any legislative or administrative framework to its leadership. Primitive administration such as vassal registration, land ownership and taxation was barely undertaken and minimally enforced. It was a society that solely relied and existed upon militarism, which didn’t bring them victory against Carnatia either. Riga, their capital,  was a large diverse barracks that was their everything; but proved to be nothing. Because they could provide nothing.

They are the false prophets of a people that merely seek to reform Oren, but the people do not seek them. Rest assured that even if they are victorious, a Staunton dynasty shall never find fruition. Because with so many different perceptions on what is “Best” and “Fair” within such a large coalition; who are they to proclaim their’s superior? A recipe for disaster, and another footnote of incompetent statecraft in our history.

The Law is for you, the Creator is with you, Long live His Majesty!

Marius reads the missive joyfully, smiling as he holds it above candlelight in his chambers at Ottosgrad! "What a great piece to show the Unity of Oren and the might of Haense!"

"I honestly like a warring state period more than a total Orenian hegemony, sorry." shrugs

"Nice blog," the young megamind, John Ted II Vimmark Staunton Horen comments. He makes a mental note to support future publications.

Publius Bracchus frowns from the Seven Skies, his choice of reason seeing all he ever worked for stripped from him as he became a footnote of history himself, drowned in milk and honey for an Emperor's entertainment...

"Not to rain on your parade, but every nation has less than 300 citizens. Don't ask me how that's sustainable." says some savoy goy

"Nothing?" a man would say. "Courland provided over half of the Empire's entire levy against the Nortruppen rebellion. For that, they were spit on. You wonder why they would defect."

Librarian Eldunir chuckles at his desk. "You silly, immature humans know nothing of what real war, life, death and conflict are. Let the realms be blessed that you live like flies, short and disgustingly."

"And yet they lost to the Carnatian northern coalition. Then after a treaty of peace was declared they broke it after claiming a boy who fell down the stairs got flayed by 'wicked waevir', rebelled and launched a campaign against the Empire. And you wonder why we don't like you?"
