We stand at a moment in time, as brothers under the same fatherland, to consecrate our kingdom with the sacrifice of our labors and the blood we soak on this hallowed ground. As men clad in nothing but the strength of our will and the grace that GOD who sits justly above sees it fit, we shall stand resolute to use these swords to purge the lands of plague and sin, that the North shall be the bastion of justice to all who long for it. Therefore, brethren, let us stand stalwart and unwavering on the days of strife that await before us where we shall stand in the same likeness as our ancestors did to secure our lands, that the peace we fight for shall never perish from this life.” -King Marius I during an address to the Duma, 1601 Throughout the times of old, the northernmost reaches of the human realms have prided on the existence of their decentralized nature and state; however at the cost of the efficiency and administration of their southern cousins. In this time of turbulent warfare, in which Our fair Realm is sieged by the political and religious enemies of Our King, the Royal State of Our Realm has seen the necessity for the centralization of Our armed forces to better protect and defend Our Realm. The nascent Royal Hansetic Army, loyal to Our King and to Our Realm, shall be the standing defender against the bulwark of Our rivals and foes. The jeweled and prestigious host of men shall not succumb to the evils beyond and within, and through Our duty to Our Realm, we may protect what We hold dear and perform the Will of God upon the Earth. Military Structure The Royal Army is structured into several Regiments to optimize administration and leading of the troops. Each Regiment shall be commanded by one Captain, who is assigned by the King and General. Alongside the Captain shall be two Ensigns, each of which are commissioned by the Captain. All the enlisted men of the vassals shall be grouped beneath a captain and his regiment, ensuring that the chain of command is kept. Chain of Command Ranks of High Command General The commander-in-chief of the Army, the General is the senior-most officer within the Army, serving directly under the King. He is tasked with the enforcement of the King’s orders, as well as the general upkeep of the entirety of the Army. Field Marshal Seasoned leaders of men granted a temporary position of command during wartime, a Field Marshal commands the same respect as the General himself, and retires once the conflict has been won. Commissioned Officers Captain A commissioned officer awarded his own command, a Captain holds considerable sway within his majesty’s forces. Captains stationed within the strong center of the Army are tasked with the command, maintenance, and training of his Majesty’s forces. Captains also have the ability to apply for a commission for command of their own regiment. Ensign A soldier who has proven a step above his peers. He is an example of duty, passion for the Army, and willingness to serve. He is to oversee the behavior of his brothers beneath him and assist any of his superior officers. Typically, this rank is awarded to members of nobility, though it can be reached by commoners and gentry through vigilance on the field of battle. Ranks of Foot Color Sergeant A regiment’s Color Sergeant has been entrusted with the sacred honor of bearing his company’s flag into battle. A model soldier, a patriot, and a budding leader, a regiment boasts only a single Color Sergeant. Vydrian Soldiers who demonstrate the ideals of the late King Andrik, honor, vigilance, and resolve in the face of danger, are awarded the rank of Vydrian, denoting an elite position among His Majesty’s forces. It is the highest achievable rank of an enlisted, non commissioned soldier. Sergeant A soldier who has shown considerable skill in the field, able to not only lead men, but lead the charge when combat is underway. They are expected to train men in the ways of combat, with the varying different weapons in which they may find within the Army’s armory. They are the ones you look to for advice and tips for combat and defense. A Sergeant is very much a teacher and should be respected by those under him and those above him. Man at Arms The standard heavy infantryman, Men at Arms have the first pick in the armory. Each man has proven himself many times over in the face of danger; the fires of war no longer intimidate him. Armsman The backbone of the Army, Armsmen have often proven their ability on the field and amongst their brothers. The rank is usually awarded after a particular event in which he expresses his strength in the field, his obedience in the barracks, or his diligence in the homestead. Footman A full member of the Army, they have passed the initiation and are now welcomed to all the services and camaraderie in which the Army provides. With their official induction, they can seek out promotions to further their standing in the Army. Recruit A recruit is a man looking to join the Army, they are awarded no rights to any of the services in which the Royal Hansetic Army may provide. They hold no authority within the Army and are no more than strangers to those who have been awarded membership into the Army. Creed † You shall hold no other allegiance, and be pure to your oath. Be not corruptible. † Be calm, strong, polite and resolute. Show valour in the field, and chivalry at home. † Never surrender yourself nor your brothers; bring your honor, or death. † Triumph through discipline. Submit to this law - First my orders, then myself. † Grasp the purpose of each duty, so you may one day take up the torch of leadership. † Against an honorable foe, fight with chivalry, but to the dishonorable, extend no quarter. † Keep true to your people.
