To Dissatisfied Citizens

[!] Missives are hung throughout the lands of the Dominion, and only the Dominion, scribbled in a manner indicating they were written quickly and furiously. [!]

To my fellow citizens of the Dominion of Malin,

In all likelihood, you do not know me. My name is Laethis II Elverhilin of the Ihelia Seed, and I am a resident of Norseth'onn concerned by the recent proclamation. I know not of the circumstances leading to the Dominion's status as a Protectorate beneath the Holy Orenian Empire, only of the dissatisfaction of the mali I have managed to speak to on the matter.

I am neither old nor wise, yet one need not be to understand the folly of this choice. Too many times have elves become the puppet of man, and too many times has it earned us little more than hardship and strife. War brews throughout the realm, and it is my belief that we must stand apart from those who seek to domineer over us. We are elves, and we must not find ourselves beholden to men.

If there are any other like-minded elves of the Dominion reading this, I encourage you to join me. I wait in the public tavern of Norseth'onn, the city which I call home.

And to those who would oppose me, know that I remain here unarmed, and seeking no quarrel, only to gather with my elven brethren to express our discontent.

May Malin guide us,

Laethis II Elverhilin of the Ihelia Seed

Daitan reads the note, chuckling a bit "It's not us being ruled, its a sort of alliance. People seem too have no undersanding of what's actually happening before they go and complain about it."

A flier is posted to the gate of Norseth'onn.

"The city of Norseth'onn will not be host to this public gathering. Please convene elsewhere.

"Oh, another Laethis namesake in the family." Laethesia comments aloud to herself in an empty room. "I support you, namesake! Sort of."

"A protectorate isn't an alliance. A protectorate is one nation swearing fealty to another nation while continuing to maintain a small degree of regional autonomy," says Aelthir. "Braindead."

"Perhaps what you would call it, but it appears only one of us have read the terms and only one of us have been talking to the leaders of both nations. This is not ruleship or enslavement, this is an alliance with another name. A move for the economic and military advatange of both nations. An offer of support, for both nations." Daitan answers, without adding any insults

"The Dominion and Oren already had an alliance. Terms 4 and 5 literally dictate that the Dominion cannot make laws without oversight from the High Magistrate and Lord Great Viceroy, and bar the Dominion from carrying out its own foreign policy," Aelthir responds, adding, "Idiot."

"Aye, and meanwhile we get military support, improvements to our own military sequipment and econoic support from the biggest nation in the world. Safety from any attacks from outside ofrces because Oren have to assist due to this treaty. Now, we may have to ask them for permission before making more alliances or making big changes in the law, but the excahnge for that seems entriely agreeable, and as a Sirame myself i more than welcome our new equipment and  new military assistance." Daitan responds, without any insults

"Daitan, dummy. A 'protectorate' means you are under a nation, not side by side with it." comments Varen.

"I am fully aware. But in thye current spot the Dominion is in, with a collapsing government, this offer is our best chance. whilst it may not be the greatest one we could get, it is signed and done. Better to not resist. I have just come out of a meeting between the leaders of the nations and this honestly seems like the best thing we could get currently." Daitn responds over his shoulder as Varen apparently passes him in the Dominion without getting killed in¨

"Just because you find it agreeable, does not mean it is just an alliance. Oren would have already granted you military assistance, as you were allies. Your military equipment is likely better than theirs. You did not even make an attempt to defend your argument that it is nothing but an alliance, you merely tried to pretend that that was not what we were arguing in the first place. We are not arguing about agree-ability, we are arguing about whether it is an alliance, or much more. Spoiler: it's much more," Aelthir responds, adding, "Braindead idiot."

"Well then, let me begin with this. No, our equipment was ****, and i have viewed what we were offered, it is quite a lot better. And o, not neccesarily an alliance, but certainly treated as one by both parties. As i saw during the intercations i was a part of, this is not a normal vassalisation, but rather a economic alliance where resources are shared between the two nations to the advantage of both. It can be exited at any time by the Dominion, or Oren, if any party would wish to, and is also able to be changed, and have already been changed. And before you ask, no, i hae not been ordered to say this by my superiors." Daitan responds, still not insulting Alethir.
