The Baruch family moments after Count Otto’s death.

In Saint’s Rest, Count Otto Baruch’s family gathered around his bed, awaiting the certain departure of their patriarch and loving family member. It was early in the afternoon when Otto was discovered in the crypts by his son and heir, Aldrik, crying and shouting at the tomb of his late daughter, Astrid. It had been days since Otto had been seen; it now being presumed that he had been in the crypts for that duration.  “Who are ye?” Otto questioned as he noticed Aldrik approach him. “Why are ye ‘ere? Get out!” He rose, going to reach for his blade that Aldrik had previously removed for the dying man’s own protection. “It’s me, Papej, Aldrik.” He replied with a calm tone, trying to ease the withering man’s paranoia. “Ah don’ know an Aldrik.” He attempts to run past his son, and up the staircase before falling as a consequence of his frailty.
After a number of hours Otto’s remaining family members return to their home, accompanied by the Archbishop Jack Amador.
“Astrid!” Otto exclaims when his grand-daughter, Erika enters his chamber to say her goodbyes to her grandfather. He grabs her hand, attempting to pull Erika in to wholeheartedly embrace her, but finds himself too weak to even move the small girl. The confused and withered man then looks to his son, Aldrik, a warm smile etching itself into his face. “Papa, it ‘as been a while. Where ‘ave ye been, an’ where is Uncle Hughes? Sigmar an’ I ‘ave been worried ye wouldn’ return.” He reaches out to take who he thought was his late father’s hand. “When ah’m Count, ah ‘ope to ‘ave an advisor as loyal and trusting as Hughes. Per’aps it may even be Sigmar.” He chuckles, but the hallucinogenic amusement is short-lived; the aged man losing his breath and trail of thought. His head sinking back into the pillows and his condition catching up with his mind. The dying man then slips back into a heavy sleep, awaking later to find only himself and Aldrik in his chamber.
“Aldrik.”
“Papej.” It had been months since the Count had even recognised his own son, let alone remembered his name. The shock stuck in Aldrik’s throat as he attempted to converse with his father.
“Ah’ve many regrets in my life, lad. Allowing ye Uncle Sigmar to hand himself to the executioner being one o’ them. Bu’ you-” He interupts himself, coughing up a ball of green and crimson phlegm. “You ‘ave proved tha’ although ah may ‘ave regrets, ah did still manage to do right by one thing.” He takes his sons hand, a droplet exiting his tear duct and rolling down his wrinkled cheek. “My time is near, Aldrik. Yer best remind the children of me.” He smiles. “Especially Erika. She is almost identical to yer sister.”
“Would ye like me to fetch the rest of them?”

Otto nods, waving his hand for his son to move and collect his family. Several minutes pass, and the Baruch family return to the Count’s chambers. Tears and cries escape the mouths of the family, after finding that in those few minutes, the Count had finally taken his last breath. A smirk, etched on his face, and the traditional whalebone coronet of House Baruch held in his hand.
After taking a few moments to regather themselves and prepare for what was to come, Tatiana Sarkozic, Otto’s remaining daughter placed the coronet on her brothers head. Those in the room dip their head to their new Count.

On the 13th of Snow’s Maiden 1640, Otto Marius Baruch, Count of Ayr took his last breath.
Aldrik Baruch then took the path back to Alban; a path he had frequently used but this time the journey felt longer. He entered the Palace as he had always done, only this time not as Ser Aldrik Baruch, but as Count Aldrik of Ayr.

Long live Count Otto, Long live Count Aldrik.

((Just as a disclaimer for anyone reading and not fully following. Otto had been suffering with dementia and had returned mentally to his youth.))

The Archbishop stood beside the bed, signing that of the Lorraine cross before saying the final rites over the Lord Otto’s corpse. With a solemn sigh he planted a hand on Aldrik’s shoulder and gave a squeeze, as if trying to give comfort to the man before taking his leave to let the family grieve.

Ahryn would have been on a ride to deliver a necklace to a customer, when wind of Otto's death reached his ears. He immediately rode for Ayr once again, giving Aldrik his condolances, and once again pledging his service to the new Count of Ayr.

"But I'm still here," Harold says, being very much alive.

((If you have a problem with it, take it up with the GMs.))

Erika Lilaine runs to her room, her eyes full of her tears, her cries to be heard across the land. She slams her door shut with an echoing thud.  She lays herself down on her bed, sobbing.  Words are barely made out between the sobs but are recognizable.

"No, no, no, Grandpapej come back!" The young child, not knowing how to gather her emotions, not understanding the situation, cries herself into a slumber.

Astrid, now reunited with her father within the seven skies, greets him with an angelic smile. "I've missed you, papej."
