Common rp disputes

Whenever some cringy band of bandits shows up, or whenever there is a halfling in a fight.  I always hear the same disputes, and can't seem to find any guides on them.

First off is armour, is armour almost weightless, as in real life.  Or is it the balanced but unrealistic take, where armoured players are slower than unarmoured ones.

Second is height, are smaller players, such as children or halflings, slower or faster in comparison to tall ones?  As it is undoubtedly more balanced to give smaller players a speed boost, but also unrealistic.

Why would being short and having shorter legs make you faster? 'Balanced' or not it doesn't make much sense.

As for the whole 'armor weight' thing, plate armor wasn't actually all that much of an encumbrance. This may vary as different kinds of armor are made for different purposes. The sort of armor that was made for a 17th century cuirassier needed to be dense enough to offer some measure of protection against gunfire, and was difficult to walk around in. However I assume when most people mention having plate armor in an rp fight they're talking about something like this.

Halflings are often considered to be faster due to their agility and quick reactions. While they probably wouldn’t win in a long distance race, halflings would do pretty well in a short sprint or in a race that involves jumping over/dodging objects.

so halflings have strong (denser musculature) legs is what you're saying, but suck when it comes to upper body strength

figuring out how heavily the server leans into the d&d-ish fantasy stuff or one-to-one reality is very confusing and stupidly often depends on who you're roleplaying with as it's often decided colloquially among player groups rather than as per rules. it's really unhelpful for newer players

i usually lean towards fairly rigid realism myself.

I guess that’d make sense.

Yeah sure plate armor doesn't make you a stiff golem but the idea that someone in plate armor could keep up a foot chase with someone not in any armor is a meme.

Of course, everyone needs to know how to lose.  Roleplay isn't all about your character, and if you play a particularly small or weak one, you're gonna end up being on the wrong end of a fight more than often.  That being said, it's not always about winning or losing, sometimes you can let your enemy die another day.  And when a weak character is constantly being put on a spike by players that show no mercy, care little for rp, and play characters with no combat weaknesses, It can get a little tiring.  I play a pretty losing centric character, one who would let themselves get killed just because a friend of theirs wanted them to.  But having no benefit to my smallness is just boring.  Buff knight characters already have the advantage of heavy armour, and ranged weapons, escaping once or twice by the scruff of my neck isn't going to break immersion.  Besides that, when people get killed by skilled roleplayers with balanced characters, sure some might be a bit salty, but the majority will appreciate a fair fight or a chance to escape.  And like I said, everyone needs to learn to lose, not just weak characters.  And even if the majority of players don't want it that way, we still need a standard to be set.

The simple answer to both questions is "it depends"

This pretty much sums it up.

You should all be aware that the server works on a defender default system, the defender can chose wether or not to RP fight or PVP fight. Adding to that if there are more than 10 players involved it automatically becomes PVP.

If the combat is done in RP players should be roleplaying their armour and the effects it has on them. E.g movement effects.

When it comes to PVP and how much armour weighs it fulls under Minecraft mechanics. Which is obviously nothing.

Hopefully that answers the question. Feel free to PM me for more details.

Thread Close.
