Senntisten Mayoral Elections: Godwyn Crast declares victory; magic, gambling, cactus green, and slavery legalized in Marna; Talraen and d'Aryn: We shall contest the slavery vote

The heated election campaign of 1648 has reached its conclusion: Godwyn Crast, an independent candidate, takes the victory in Senntisten, becoming its first mayor to date, claiming the title over the Companie's Lord Alexandre d'Aryn, and the Scroll's own Aran Talraen. Mayor Crast, having promised prosperity and stability to the citizens of Senntisten during his campaign, has already taken on enacting many of his promised reforms, as well as planning the upcoming festival marking the end of the elections. In addition to selecting their mayor, the citizens of Senntisten also cast their vote on several proposed amendments to the law of Marna, including the Apostolic Kingdom's stance on unsanctioned settlements within Marnan territory, and the legalization of magic, gambling, cactus green, and non-human slavery within the kingdom's borders. The voters therefore expressed their support for the forced vassalization of these settlements, and the immediate legalization of the aforementioned acts. The Scroll hereby provides the announcement in full.

A statement by the other candidates regarding the slavery vote has been issued, contesting its validity and morality. The Scroll hereby provides their statements in full, along with a selected excerpt:

Quote

"...A barbaric institution, practiced by savage orcs and dark elves and dwarven outcasts, one condemned by the spirit of our Faith and the current policies of our Apostolic Kingdom, a bastion of freedom for the civilized peoples of Atlas. Everything that slavery offers negates our greatness as Man, our ability to dedicate our lives to work and prosperity in spite of the Ibleesian curse, without falling complacent and relying on the manpower of subjugated non-humans. There is no doubt that this act is directed towards the elven provocation, and that it is one that will send our proud, holy kingdom towards a path of darkness and barbarism."

-Aran Talraen, mayoral candidate and Royal Administrator of Marna

"..We should have a society of kindness, of compassion and of empathy to our fellow man. We should not look down upon people simply because they are different to us, because they talk, act, or are shaped in a contrary manner. Our current success is the product of values painstakingly acquired and cultivated over hundreds of years. The imperative to love those who are your neighbour has shaped our politics - and we cannot let barbaric notions of slavery and disenfranchisement seep into the very fabric of our society, a society we are proud to call free, a society wherein a man can go about his usual, daily business without the threat of persecution and indifference. A society where all men are judged as equals under the eyes of GOD when we part these mortal realms. For all men die, all women die, all children will one day become old and grey - and then they will die. And I have seen from my life, one well lived, that empathy to our fellow man is a notion that is intrinsically good. The care and compassion that we show today shall determine the world that our sons and daughter, our grandchildren and great-grandchildren, will inherit tomorrow."

-Alexandre d'Aryn, mayoral candidate and Lord Magnate of Marna

Victory in Haense: Free Company and the Order crush the undead hordes

It had seemed that a grim fate awaited the Haensetian capital of Markev: the undead hordes, row upon row of ghoul and skeleton blackening the fields of Haense, threatened to pour into the capital itself; however, their plan was gloriously foiled by the well-timed arrival of the Marnan armies - both the Free Company and the Order of Saint Lucien, smashing the undead armies to drive them back into the wasteland in an unprecedented display of military prowess. The armies of Haense and the volunteers were relieved by the Marnan rally, an organized push ensuring the undead would not plague the lands of Haense for a very long time.

"A good read! Best source of news I've received since the days of the Imperium. Maybe humanity's on the rebound after all," says an optimistic Rakim after reading his copy of the Senntisten Scroll in his quarters.

Mother Judith reads the scroll from her office within the abbey; calling for Sister Odette to wax it and keep the paper within the archive. "A good read, voices should be heard about these affairs, not silenced." She hands the parchment to her sister, mulling over its contents with her brow furrowed.
