FireCrimson 109 Share Posted September 22, 2018 Neu Munchen The status of things was… disconcerting to the colony. Word from the southern Germans of some sort of strange colony had reached them, and blows had been exchanged between the both of them. It reminded them eerily of the possibility of war with their own northern neighbors. Could they allow such heathens to win? To take control of this new world and spread their false faiths among the people? The Graf thought not. But perhaps worse was the heretics. The men of Neu Brandenburg were tolerable only because they were fellow Germans, men of the Reich. But they had discarded any notion of Christian unity when they formed the ‘Protestant League’. While the Graf was not willing to fight them on this, it was a chilling thought that one day Germans might fight Germans once more in the name of GOD, be it right and just as they were or as false as that of the Protestant cause... Another colony, seeking the weakness of Hanseong in their fight to battle back the bloodthirsty germans, greedily trying to force them from their lands has decided to enter the war. Blockading the city, though this bares little worry for the colonist as they had no reason or want to trade. The Commonwealth had stayed completely within their capital. Besides the scouts who found the gold, many had no idea of the geography. This will change as workers and guards go to the new province. Some families even sprout up, forming an impromptu mining town. From here gold will pour into the Commonwealth's already large coffers. Quality of life is good, with everyone having enough food and shelter. Everyone felt safe behind the thick walls. With all this new economic power, the council decides to scale things up. Their first economic move is to take a loan from the Caribbean pirates. Marcolo could prove to be a fine partner down the road. But Eiro saw large than that. Plenty of colonies dotted the coast, and had their unique financial troubles. Eiru was clearly the richest of them all. And so the New World Bank is formed. Comprised of the wealthy and noble Eiru elite, it will be a joint-stock banking company. Any colony wishing to take a loan or have the Bank invest in them can petition to do so. Interest rates will depend on what's being asked. With this institution the Irish would help their neighbors, and be helped in turn. It was their first move to clearly signify Irish neutrality and banking power. The Capital as it always will be is closed off to foreigners. All interactions are made on the surrounding beach. If the spanish were to be silent, Marcolo would make sure they stay silent. I mean after all Marcolo had given them a year’s worth of time, which should be more than enough to give a response. Hell, I’d bet that a nation from the mainland could respond quicker than this. With that Marcolo broke the news, and of course the brigands were overjoyed. No longer were they in a time of stagnation, but now in the time of war. For all these privateers had been doing was scouting and sitting at bay. Which, granted, is a nice life to live but nae the pirate life they wished for. News spread fast. The war was far from unexpected, for Antonio’s top priority was keeping up to date with the pirate’s actions. Not doing so would be purely stupid if he ever wanted to liberate Santiogo from the rapscallions. With the information Antonio received, he formulated a proposition; a proposition that Marcolo likely wanted. Antonio was going to take care of the management. Management of the settlements, which he was already doing, management of trade, which he was trying to do, and management of foreign relations. The last wasn’t something he was attempting to do with his own power before, but he still decided to grab at it. A choice that likely affected the entire state, for now Antonio had the power in choosing who and who not to have relations with, at least if Marcolo accepted… Sadly for Antonio Marcolo was a smart man, he knew giving up diplomacy ment giving up his authority as leader. Though Marcolo had also been keeping a bit of watch on the colonists, so he offered a compromise on the duty of diplomacy. If Marcolo and his captains were unable to come to a decision amongst themselves, the ruling by Antonio would be the tie breaker. Antonio accepted this offer immediately. Sander 3158 Share Posted October 7, 2018 TrompsylvaniaVirtus libertas est, et independentiaeAutumn and Winter of 1602Current Leader: Mr. President, Cornelis Tromp Trompsylvania was doing alright for itself, the colony was developing rapidly, the population was growing steadily, the economy was booming and food was plentiful. The Dutch settlers had made friends with the Haudenosaunee to the north and formed a pact of non-agression, furthermore, the natives had offered to protect the colony if they were to be attacked. Money was coming in plentifully, both from production as well as trade, a lot of which was done with Wittehaven, where a lot of food was exported to. All in all, the small colony was blooming, the only major issue was their envoys to the old world not returning, which bothered the President. The city of Nieuw-Rotterdam in the distance with Trompsylvanian farms in the foreground, right on the Tjessepieck bay. Various reforms were made within the colony's governing system, Tromp's health wasn't making a turn for the better, so he wished to leave his nation as best as possible before his seemingly inevitable passing. He appointed two secretaries to function as a sort of advisors, the secretary of state, and the secretary of the treasury, modelled after the Dutch Stadtholder and Councilpensionary. The latter of which was a man called Alexander Koopmans, a Dutch trader and banker from origin. He'd proven to know all there was to know about trade, money and finance and his policies made the colony's wealth soar to new heights, something that drew attention to him among the citizens. On December 1st, he opened the new Grand Market, a plan of his own, and on the 5th (Saint Nicholas' Feast), the market was already full of stands, primarily selling things for the holiday season. Tromp had taken a liking to him and unofficially made him his right hand man, something that'd inevitably bother the secretary of state, Thomas Janssen, if he wasn't gone to the Haudenosaunee territory, learning about their structure of state and laws. A vicepresident was also appointed; Joris Wasserman, who used to be a general in the eighty years war, and had always been a close friend of Tromp. The men of the upper class of Trompsylvania at a party, with Cornelis Tromp himself sitting in the middle. The final of the three ships that the colonists used to get to Amerika was now being sent back to Europe, a delegation on board. They were to find more settlers like the previous two ships that had disappeared. This time a different approach would be taken though, offering to make New Rotterdam a port of export of American goods for the Dutch Republic, giving an offer no Dutchman could resist: profitable trade. Hope was put into the last ship that could give the colony contact with the old world, the last of their ships capable of crossing the Atlantic. (PS: BE NICE FOR ONCE PLS MODS!) Spoiler Protestant LeagueThe Protestant League was founded by the Protestant colonies of Trompsylvania, the West India Company, Neu Brandenburg and Vinland. This league is to preserve peace as best as possible in the American northeast coast. It is not an alliance, nor a single nation. It is an organisation of protestant colonies for mutual benefit and protection.Rules of the Protestant League: 1. No hostile actions can be taken against other members of the league. This rule is only in place while the Pax Protestantes is enacted. 2. Members of the league will respect one anothers landclaims. If a member believes claims might overlap, it will be sorted out in the form of negotiations rather than conflict. 3. Navies belonging to league members are allowed to dock whenever needed in ports of league members. Likewise, armies belonging to league members are allowed to pass through league lands whenever needed. 4. In any foreign policy, league members will always put protestants first, catholics and orthodox second and 'pagans' third. 5. League members can aid eachother if a league member is being attacked by a foreign power and is thus fighting a defensive war. They are not bound to do this, it is optional. 6. League members cannot join one another in offensive wars simply because they are in the league. Individual alliances are required for this. 7. The only religions allowed within the league or to join the league are forms of Protestantism and Reformism. Catholics, Orthodox or orther forms of christianity as well as 'pagan' religions cannot join the league. If a member of the league changes their religion to one not allowed in the league, their membership is ended immediatly by default. 8. The Pax Protestantes can only be enacted or repealed if 50% or more of the league members agree to do so. ((OOC: It can also be ended by moderator intervention in extreme cases.))Pax Protestantes: The Pax Protestantes, or "Protestant Peace", is enacted initially. This means that rule 1 of the Protestant League is enacted and that members of the league cannot take any hostile actions against one another. This includes but is not limited to: declaring war, embargoing, stirring unrest, covert actions of any kind, spying and conspiring against. Cannons from Scandinavian ships & Korean defenders thundered across the sea. For roughly two hours the relentless cannon fire sounded across the colony. As the battle concluded, Korean cannons & fortifications proved to be too formidable for the attackers, who were eventually forced to retreat out of range of the colony's defenses. (Hanseong -1 corvette, -10 AP worth of damage to walls) Though the besieging fleet remained present through the remainder of the year 2 frigates were forced to return to Vinland for repairs.
