Marcus Orentius. 4E 839.

Marcus was standing at a table with a map of Cyrodiil laid out upon it. Skingrad had multiple war pieces positioned near it, almost as if it were a plan of attack. That plan of attack would not be needed if the Dune were to accept the demands made by Marcus. He had his legion on standby ready to march when given the word. Near every man would follow him to Skingrad, but he’d leave a garrison of archers to hold the city along with it’s already stationed guard. In order to make his reputation amongst his people and his fellow Imperials greater this needed to be done.

After making his war arrangements Marcus decided to call a meeting of his merchants to discuss the situation retaining to the brigands. Though the talks lasted an hour, Marcus had agreed to commit however many men the traders needed  as they enter and leave Kvatch land. The economy of Kvatch was just as essential to it’s well being as it’s military.

Back on the topic of reputation Marcus was thinking about how to become more prestigious within Cyrodiil until it finally had it him. The Knights of the Nine were a great order of pious men who were seeking to find the relics of the Divines, becoming part of their order would surely improve his standing. The thought stuck with him long and hard before he made his final decision to set out and join the Holy order.

Archduchy of Camlorn

War. It was just the next year after Silus’ installment as ruler of Camlorn and already he was going to wager war. Without any formal declaration, on the very first morning of the new year, the freshly recruited troops of the Archduchy of Camlorn crossed the border into the territory of the Kingdom of Hegathe, headed for Daggerfall directly, to liberate... to unite. A blitz maneuver it should be, the armies were not to plunder, but to come free the people that were recently subjugated by the Redguards, unjustly so.

Wagering high, risking it early, risking it all. An army marching through the highlands surrounding Daggerfall.

Income

Base Income: 10,000 Septims

Tax from Provinces: 6,000 Septims

Income from Economic Investments (10k): 1,000 Septims

Income from trade: None.

Total: 17,000 Septims.

Standing Army:

2,000 Light Infantry

1,000 Heavy Infantry

4,000 Archers

Actions

Recruitment

2,000 Light Infantry (-2,000 septims)

1,000 Heavy Infantry (-2,000 septims)

2,000 Archers (-1,000 septims)

5 Catapults (-2,000 septims)

An inquiry follows towards the Archduchy of Northpoint for the potential of a marriage and alliance between the two realms. ((Mod))

Trade partners are actively sought in the neighbours, but also overseas. ((Mod))

The First Army of Camlorn marches towards Daggerfall, taking the closer western route. They are to quickly blitz through the countryside to besiege the city itself as soon as possible, utilizing aggressive tactics with the light infantry and archers to scout the province they are traversing quickly dispersing and destroying any accumulation of Hegathe’s soldiers. The Breton civilian populace is not to be touched, aided if need be and inquired if they would be willing to aid in their very own liberation. This plan should work without much of an issue, given that the soldiers are within their homelands. ((Mod))

Investments into the economy with the remainder of the yearly budget. (-10,000 septims)

The news from Morrowind was ill, an army being raised by the Dunmer, but for what purpose? It must be for nothing short of war, and thankfully Cheydinhal still had a number’s advantage and far better quality troops. Though they could not strike yet.

They needed allies, Leyawiin had sent an offer of defensive pact, which the Duke had accepted. Yet he doubted that those merchants; likely far more interested in trade and peace rather blood and war would really hold up their promises. To the west, the Grand Duchy of Bruma was large and strong and had lands which had long ago been stolen from them by the Nords. Cheydinhal would offer them help in regaining their former lands, in the future. With this he would also offer his hand in marriage to one of the Duke’s of Bruma’s three daughters, for the Duke was unwed and needed someone to carry on his line.

The Republic of the Heartlands would serve as another capable ally, they had accepted Cheydinhals offers of trade and while they had unfortunately denied the Duke’s request to purchase land he knew that they might have doubts about Leyawiin’s willingness to allow competitor ships to trade in Topal Bay through the Leyawiin straits and therefore promised Cheydinhals support for the Imperial City in any trade disputes between the two.

Meanwhile he would fortify the border to Oreleth with a fort in the south, atop a hill at the mouth of the River Silverfish, sending the Second Cheydinhal legion there. The ranks of the First Cheydinhal Legion stationed at the capital were bolstered, with siege weapons constructed, and plans were drawn up for war.

Messages were sent, encrypted, to the agents in Oreleth instructing them to find out who Oreleth was allied to. The agents ousted out of Stormhold were told to venture south to the tribe of the Stonewashes to discover their political situation. The duke considered allying himself with the rift, yet that would make his cause hypocritical if he allied with those that occupied imperials.

The Leyawiin Legion was swelling with a great many proud Imperials, eager to do their duty to Leyawiin and Cyrodiil as a whole. Trade has been re-established with both Imperials and Leyawiin’s khajiit neighbours. The senate and people of Leyawiin were happy with what was seen as a rebirth and revitalisation of Leyawiinian and Imperial prosperity and might, and Quintus’ popularity both patrician and plebeian was climbing quickly. However, not all was ready. Leyawiin’s strength and prosperity was only beginning to grow.

However, there were some matters to attend to without the realm. The Dux’s probes into Cheydinhal with diplomatic offers had been met with receptivity. It soon became apparent, though, that Quintus’ ultimate goal of bringing the northerly state into Leyawiin’s sphere would not be met with such success, as the Grand-Duke had ambitions of his own. As such, he sends a missive dissolving the defensive alliance established only months before – Quintus did not want to risk being honour-bound to join a war he did not wish to.

Elsewhere, the Khajiit King in Senchal had approached Leyawiin offering to purchase their Elsweyrian provinces. After some bartering and negotiation, it was decided that the land would be ceded in exchange for 15,000 septims, paid over this year and the next. Furthermore, the two states would enter into a defensive alliance with one another, guaranteeing each other from foreign aggression. The territorial purchase and the alliance are signed in the combined Treaty of Rimmen.

A diplomat is dispatched to the Argonian tribe of Naga, bringing with him an offer from Leyawiin.

In the same vein as last year, Quintus takes a bill to the Senate asking for further expansion of the military. Scouts had found an Argonian forces and had even reported Imperials being pressed into service – information that the young Scipionarius emphasised and embellished in his opening statement. Such intelligence proved very persuasive to many Senators, and it was agreed further expansion was necessary. All in all, the Senate agreed to fund the training of 6,000 Heavy Infantry, 1,000 Light Infantry, and 1,000 Heavy Cavalry, bringing the strength of the burgeoning Leyawiin Legion up to 22,000 men. An additional 2 units of ballistae are constructed and have men trained to man them. Once trained, these troops would join the Leyawiin Legion and the Leyawiinian territory on the west bank of the Niben.

The Kingdom of Rihad

TcyIsrl.jpg

Haserick admired the military forces gathered before him. Before him in a military parading ground he saw nearly all of the military of the kingdom gathered. Except those who remained in order to police the kingdom.

Before him stood nearly 1500 cavalry, 3000 infantry, 2000 archers and 50 mages proudly displayed. Haserick walked past the assembled lines of troops appreciatively. Admiring them. He could clearly see discipline in the palace guards, both mounted and non-mounted. With them being dressed in heavy armor both strong and protected by cloth. Making sure that the soldier underneath the armor would not suffer a stroke whilst still preventing him or her from being slaughtered by the enemy.

The rest (except the mages), were all adquate but not to the same level. The archers provided covering fire which could force enemy forces to remain immobile or slaughter them from the sky. But if any infantry forces came in contact them they would melt like the butter a hot knife went through. Whilst the skirmishers were decent they were the run of the line soldiers. Their strength was mainly in numbers and whilst they could prove effective they were generally more likely to die and be replaced.

Then there were the mages, the mages were quite important. They provided heavy fire support. Breaking the lines of the enemy and countering the heavy troops of the enemy. Whilst few in number they were excellent in dealing with heavy infantry. With their spells blasting through the lines and allowing morale to be shattered. Still, this was all in the background of Haserick’s mind as he admired  the soldiers.

At his side were two people, those who were unofficially called ‘left and right’ as they executed the will of Haserick quickly and efficiently. These were Braika and Boderoc, female and male, brother and sister. Boderoc was the economic advisor of Haserick whilst Braika the military one. Originally they served as his lieutenants in the border guard whilst hunting bandits but now they helped him run the kingdom. Whilst they inspected the troops Braika spoke up. “The troops are decent but they need better. If we ever come up against the Imperial legions we will easily be beaten. We need to have a stronger officer corps and more investment into the academy. The initative of last year was a good start but it is simply not enough. We need to put the majority of our budget into the military academy as well as expanding our number of troops” This was quickly counter by Boderoc. “I disagree, we should focus on our economy. Seeing as we have no intention of conquest and mainly of defense growing our economy is the best way to gain more influence nad power. A military is good for levrage but economic power trumps military during diplomacy. On top of that creating a strong economy means that in the long run a stronger army can be maintained. Thus I say we should put the majority of our budget into improving the economy.”

Boderick then seemed to think for a moment. “To be specific, we should expand our road network. Expanding our road network allows traders to travel between our cities faster as well as allowing faster deployment of troops. Making it give benefits both for the economy and for the military.”

Haserick then considered the two different arguments for a moment. Weighing the costs and benefits of both approaches. As he did so Haserick rubbed his beard a little. Looking off into the distance as he came to a conclusion. “
We shall take a combination of both. The majority of our resources will got to expanding our road network. Ten thousand septims to be exact. Whilst six thousand septims will go to finishing the military academy. Seeing as we have no immediate threat at our borders means we should not unduly expand our military. On top of that it is neccesary to keep some money in the treasury in case of emergencies.” Both of his advisors nodded at this. Both not completely satisfied but satisfied enough. But that is the way of things, when you rule it is inevitable that some will dislike your decisions. It is like diplomacy, the best solution is the one both sides hate just as much as the other.

Oskar, upon leaving his Eastern homeland for the second time in his life, left Windhelm with little more than what he could carry on his person; a sword, armor, and his wits. His meeting with the Pale’s Jarl had gone better than he had expected. He returned to his hold with a declaration of friendship between the two Jarldoms, and a bond of marriage to seal it.

VczT5jDE0XOeWwE_3XYqfATJq5RqyciMzJhuFinvDhPcI8rMnrZWRpInsJv45VJ9nYZlAUyAgvQGzaDt24y3rklmJ4AZ_BmLK8rOKKS412XFlQo3KmTXE2aYrm_YgLFthwRlbHWm

Wedded not only a month after Oskar’s return from the Pale, the union between the Pale and Windhelm had been sealed with the marriage between Oskar and Brunhilda. For three nights the wedding lasted, at least from what some say, while some declare it was nearly an entire week that the procession went on. Countless horns of ale were drank, with many of the patrons leaving Windhelm in need of assistance, or travelling in the back of a wagon headed to their holds.

One thing, however, was for certain. Brunhilda arrived within Windhelm donning her kransen. It had been without her since.

The honeymoon of the newly wed couple was unlike many others, as the two decided to tend to their lands in their own manner. With a hefty bag of gold, a sturdy blade for the both of them, and armor to match, they made off into the lands to seek not only fame or fortune, but to bring back order to the distraught lands of eastern Skyrim.

The Interregnum:

0iwKfAA.png

Kingdom of Aurion:

The Kingdom of Aurion declares war upon the Kingdom of Aurion. Within the first few weeks the Aurion armies moved unopposed throughout the countryside. Capturing the few villages and townships near the border. The Auridon army nowhere to be found.

The Aurion navy begins construction, however the limited funding does mean they can only produce a dozen transport ships by years end. These ships are large, able to hold about 500 men without horses and about 250 men with horses.

Other than this, nothing major happened in Aurion.

Jarldom of the Rift:

Carsten continues his journey. Traveling through the mountains. Whilst there he is ambushed and captured by bandits. Being held there for a few days before escaping with some other prisoners. Forming a warband they travel the Colovian Highlands, completing bounties and jobs for Bruma, Kvatch and finally Anvil. Selling a relic he collected along the way. Once his party had their rest the warband returned to Riften. Now 18, Carsten has grown into a man.

A lot of men join the army. A majority of them being Imperial peasants from the city of Chim and the surrounding villages. The rest of the recruits are nords from the villages around Riften. Now that Carsten is back at court a group of Imperial merchants request an audience with the Jarl over the future of the city of Chim.

The grant of gold given to the fisheries expand the docks around Lake Honrich. Many dunmer and imperials come to Riften for work and a better life. However there is a slight problem with the housing situation. A majority of these dockworkers are homeless as there are not enough homes for them.

The rider returns from Whiterun, the Jarl has offered the sale of the two provinces for a modest sum of 20,000 Septims.

Grand Duchy of Kvatch:

Dune surrenders the Imperial city of Skingrad as well as the regions around the city to Kvatch. In exchange Kvatch will allow Dune merchants to operate in Kvatch, as well as set up a merchant's guild within the city. Along with this Kvatch will house the merchants, guards and their families within the city. The Dune is willing to pay Kvatch a percentage of their profits. (+5,000 Septims per turn)

Kvatchi troops are dispatched to protect both Kvatch caravans, as well as the Khajiiti caravans entering and leaving the city. The merchants give their thanks to Marcus.

Marcus leaves to join the Knights of the Nine, he travels to Anvil in search for this order. After a search he finds the order. They give him a task, this task would not be easy. So Marcus set out, traveling the dangerous wilds of Anvil. After finishing his quest Marcus is officially inducted into the Knights of the Nine.

Archduchy of Camlorn:

Envoys return from Northpoint bringing wonderful news to Silus. The leader of Northpoint was an unwed maiden. Her name is Clara Monnette, she is the daughter of the previous Archduke who did indeed have a son. However, the boy died in a skirmish against an Orcish stronghold in Northpoint territory. A marriage between Silus and Clara would be strategic. However, would require Silus to court her.

Northpoint, Sentinel and Gilane are willing to trade with Camlorn. However, they demand a non-aggression pact be signed between them. If not, they refuse to trade.

The First army of Camlord finds no resistance in their occupation of the countryside. Many bretons welcomed and cheered them. However, a few locals warned them that a large Redguard force is stationed in Daggerfall.

Economic investments are made. (+1,000 Septims)

Grand Duchy of Cheydinhal:

The beginnings of a fort is constructed upon a hill on the border between Cheyndinal and Oreleth. A small investment of only 2,500 means not much progress. A basic outline of the fort is made. Wooden walls are raised and the basic buildings are constructed. A small garrison of around 250 men occupy the fort.

Spies sent into Oreleth report that the Dunmer are mounting an attack into a neighboring Dunmer Kingdom. The agents say that Oreleth have no interest in Cyrodiil for now. The spies sent into the Stonewastes report that the Argonians are having a succession crisis. With three factions fighting over the Chiefdom.

Bruma offers their oldest daughter. She is 22 years old and is willing to wed the Grand Duke of Cheydinhal. Troops are recruited and siege weapons are constructed.

The Kingdom of Senchal:

More troops are recruited, not much happens in Senchal.

Merchant Republic of Leyawiin:

The two Khajiiti provinces that Leyawiin controlled is sold to Senchal, as well as another legion being raised by Leyawiin. Meanwhile the diplomat returns from Naga, the tribe of Naga is willing to participate in a joint invasion of the Stonewastes.

Other than that, not much happens within the Republic. The people are content with the current state of affairs.

The Kingdom of Rihad:

The military academy is finally completed. It is quite an impressive achievement. Some call it revolutionary. In the past only persons of noble birth were able to obtain high quality marshall education. Now with the academy, even the common man and obtain this kind of education. This if they can afford it.

The road system is expanded across the entire Kingdom, allowing for safer and much faster travel across the vast deserts and plains. This indeed increases revenue. (+1,000 Septims per turn)

The King of Sentinel offers his 16 year old sister to the King of Rihad.

Many Dunmer are forced out of their homes as a proper training field is constructed within Windhelm. Providing a place for soldiers to train and hone their skills. With this, the candidates of Huscarls is reduced to a select 200 men and women.

Bam Bam is done, after a few months Brunhilda returns to Windhelm to give birth to their child. It is a baby girl.

World Events:

A series of succession wars break out in Blackmarsh, many thousands of lives are lost however two dominant powers emerge. The Tribe of Naga and the Tribe of Sarpa. Both with completely different foreign policies. The Naga wish to remain isolated and keep the old ways. However, Sarpa wants to embrace change, to modernize Blackmarsh.

In Hammerfell Imperial duchies expand, capturing even more territory from the disunited redguards. In Valenwood, a terrible plague spreads across the land. Killing thousands within the first few months. Cyrodiil may be in danger of this new disease.

The time had come. The troops of last year were fully trained, equipped, and prepared to fight. The Naga in Blackmarsh had agreed to assist in a joint invasion. What’s more, the enemy was undergoing a political crisis. After a quick religious ceremony beseeching the Nine Divines for their blessing in the expulsion of the heathen beastmen, the word is given to Legate Manius Caro to begin the invasion of the Stonewastes, and the declaration of war issued.

From Fort Redman, a one-time fort turned settlement that formed the main Leyawiinian settlement across the Niben, the Leyawiin Legion sallies out. The 6,000 Heavy Infantry, 8,000 Light Infantry, 6,000 Archers, and 1,000 Heavy Cavalry would cautiously move into the Blackwood towards the previously identified location of the gathering Argonian force, while the 1,000 light cavalry are used to their full potential as a scouting party to prevent ambush and try to locate the enemy army. The two ballistae units would be brought along as well, though they would be placed in the centre of the convoy to prevent being picked off from behind. Settlements encountered along the way lacking garrisons would be quickly secured, and then the force would move on.

The Naga are advised to take the Stonewastes’ heartlands in Blackmarsh, and to flush out the enemy into Cyrodiil if they encounter it. A large sum, 2,000 Septims, is invested into paying local subjugated Imperials to provide intelligence and sabotage the enemy where possible.

Meanwhile, back in the capital itself, Quintus was placing his faith in Legate Caro and concentrating on domestic concerns. The second installment of Senchal’s payment for Rimmen had come in, and he planned on putting the extra funds to good use. More troops were recruited, a new cohort so far consisting of 2,000 Heavy Infantry, 2,000 Light Infantry, 2,000 Archers, and a further 1,000 Heavy Cavalry. The Senate and People were still enraptured by the calls to strength Quintus espoused frequently, and the beginning of the reclamation of Cyrodiil in earnest had inspired many new recruits.

However, Quintus also began attending to the economy much more attentively than in previous years. Some 10,000 Septims is invested into Leyawiin’s port, building new warehouses, piers, and directly investing into a few maritime businesses (a lot of which were of course the properties of the Scipii and their allies). The hope was that this would stimulate trade and allow many merchants and fisheries to expand their operations, netting more profit (and thus of course more taxes for the state). Quintus also hoped that this would prove to the more pacifist elements of the Senate that he was not a warmonger, and was also going to ensure the domestic greatness of the Republic.

While their Nibenese neighbors to the south began to move against the Argonians, Cheydinhal would do the same against the Dunmer to their east. The Kingdom of Oreleth was turned elsewhere, the last thing they’d expect was action against them by the Grand Duchy, their foolishness would be punished with impunity, the Duke vowed. Though their blow would not come yet, it was early winter and the Duke planned to launch his assault in the Summer. For now, he had other; diplomatic matters to attend to.

The offer of marriage from Bruma was accepted, and the Duke travelled to wed his wife in a lavish wedding with much splendor, he would remain north at the city Bruma for most of the spring. In May he returned to Cheydinhal with his wife, and began to put his plans into motion. The defensive pact the Imperial City offered on contrary to the alliance was accepted, he didn’t really require their help, just as long as they allowed Brumese troops free movement through their land. While he was away in Bruma messages had been sent to the Kingdom of Deshlaan offering them a few of Oreleth’s Morrowind territories if they aided the duke.

In June, the time for war had come. Out of Cheydinhal the first legion marched, to cheers from the crowds gathered to see their soldiers reclaim land stolen centuries ago. They moved swiftly, arriving at the neighboring town of Harluns Watch within days. Siege engines were set up outside the town, and readied.

Messengers were sent to the Dunmer occupied settlement, declaring that the Legion wished to avoid bloodshed of their own people and were liberators, they asked for the town’s garrison to surrender and join their kin in reclaiming former Cheydinhal lands. They reminded the people that the town had once been a proud settlement and was highly valued. If they continued to refuse bribes would be offered numbering around two thousand septim's. If all attempts fail the Legion would reluctantly begin to bombard the town with their trebuchets and begin an assault. Light Cavalry would be sent out in small groups to scout out the rest of the territories in Cyrodiil.

In the south, the Legate Moslenagus was instructed with reconquering the southern provinces, then sweeping up to the Valus Mountains, securing the mountain passes. Once Harlun’s watch fell the First Legion would march north to secure the rest of the provinces, hopefully by the end of the year, Cheydinhal would have much of it’s former territory restored. More troops would be raised to bolster the Second Legion and messages were sent to Bruma to call them to arms against outsiders. The time for peace was over, the time for war had come.

The Rift

With his return, Carsten would again be faced with the Rifts economical issues. The Fisheries have received funding for expansion, seeing as it can only go well another grant of 5,000 would be granted. On top of this homes would be needed for the workers, 10,000 should cover Riftens expansion.

With the apparent danger the Rifts safety, Carsten would seek the guidance from his gods, taking a month and a half to journey to the top of the Throat of the world on a pilgrimage. His wife, Faide Law-Giver would join him. Once again trusting Skegglund with the city, though this time only for a month.

With the Rifts army built strong, these men would need training to stay in shape in case any invader, be it the long nosed bastards to the south, or the darkie pigs to the east try their luck. 5,000 is spent on training, Carstens huscarls would teach those deemed most capable to train the army.
