tadabug2000 3506 Popular Post Share Posted October 25, 2019 Nathair Creature Grouping A Origin Story It has never been known where these strange beings originated from, just that they themselves exist. Perhaps they were experiments, from a deranged human; a magical ritual gone wrong or mayhaps the Dragons descended upon the land, creating these odd creatures. A race with scales of a variety of colors, cold to the touch and heart much the same, feeling no love, even for those like them. The foremost thing the first of these creatures would remember is the cold. Left out to die, forgotten by whoever or whatever had created them. Ice biting at their skin, nipping away at their shell, breaking them down, until they become something seemingly natural to them. Scaled. A snake. Everything hurt and they felt paralyzed, were paralyzed, stuck in a transformation they could not stop. They’d gaze upon each other, the original three, all varying in looks but all the same. They were Nathair, the first of their kind. Not much is said as to how they survived, what has come to be known as their greatest weakness, the bitter cold, but they had indeed, survived. Flawed, with weaker abilities than even that of a teenage human. From those of this abandoned race, rose the first Elders: Zann’inn, Ningillin and Thoth. They wanted purpose, to figure out who made them, to show to themselves that they were not failures, that they were in fact perfect, and worthy of approval of their creator. The three Elders constructed a library, conducting research in their mad attempt to figure out this mysterious origin and just what they were made for. They were but babes in their own right, left alone to fend for themselves, with no knowledge as to what they are or how they came to be. This library, it would be where their race will grow, learn and make themselves worthy, in the hope they’d someday meet their creator and gain their love and approval. Zann’inn built this Great Library, where his people would live, and spent the rest of his days caring for it. Leading his people to their home, as the first Knowledge Keeper. Ningilin was instituted as the first head of the guard force, tasked with protecting the library. She’d use her keen mind to create traps, to stop those who would harm the Nathair and other seekers of knowledge. Well-known for going out and infiltrating societies, in an attempt to understand the hearts of the Descendants. The third Elder, Thoth was the first collector of knowledge, renowned as an engaging teacher and aspiring mentor. He taught the first children of the Nathair, and was said to frequently go out in his human forms to teach the gifts of reading and writing to the Descendants. He lead as a bastion of compassion and empathy for those he came across on the road. These three were the first, displaying the three kinds of Nathair within society. All who’ve come after, have one of three changing gifts, and have fulfilled one of three roles: The Concealer, The Guardian and The Bestower. Culture The quest of the Nathair is to gather and safeguard knowledge. Much unlike the Dragur library, the Nathair library is not one that can be seen by all. Knowledge the Nathair gather shall be kept hidden away for those few who wish to seek them out, therefore their culture revolves around this. Though, those not of the Nathair have a chance to learn of this, by going through a series of events to become effectively an honorary. If deemed one, they’d be allowed within the library. Coupling Coupling in regards to Nathair culture is a strange affair, compared to other races as the Nathair do not have the mind of lust or romance, coupling is purely a matter of procreation. The coupling process is allowed to start at the age of 25. The prospective parents will decide together that they would indeed make a fine specimen of offspring, at which point they will go to the Council of Elders. As Nathair cannot procreate with Descendants or other races, all Nathair Couplings will be both Nathair, unlike bonding which is not necessarily with other Nathair. [OOC Note: This is all done fully with ooc consent, simply a suggestion of a pairing that would be good, think arranged marriages.] If the coupling is accepted by the Council based on their traits, they will be allowed to have a child, and the child registered. Any Couplings who fail to do this will be punished, the child considered defective and shunned. Bonding Bonding is the Nathairs form of showing commitment, but rather than being commitment of the body, it is a commitment of the soul. Marriage is but a strange notion to them, save for that of life partners, which is exactly what these bonded are. Bonded are considered the only life partners a Nathair will have, and are effectively their soulmates. Nathair’s bonded does not have to be the person they reproduce with, as they may not be able to produce, or have traits that would not be suitable for offspring. Unlike couplings, a Nathair’s bonded may not necessarily be Nathair, however to be bonded to a non-Nathair is a somewhat taboo notion. A bonded is someone the individual cannot live without. Nathair only ever typically have one bonded, as many believe that the bonded is the other half of their sou, their intellectual equal, someone they could share their lives research with. The bonding ceremony is usually a small affair in practise, but culturally a big deal. The bonded will exchange pendants, before finding a Nathairan Scale Carver, who will give the two a bonded tattoo, matching in colour and over the left collar bone. Bonding is not marriage. Bonding is a commitment of the soul, not of the body. Bonded are the only ‘life’ partners the Nathair have, considered that of kin, even as they are not related by blood. Nathair only have the real capacity for having a single bonded, who are essentially akin to blood brothers. Someone who gets you at an intellectual level. Bonding does not have to be with another Nathair, though, this is looked down upon if that person is not accepted, and deemed worthy by the Nathair. Naming Conventions The names of the Naithair change depending on their form. Human-like names in their human forms, and in their base form, they typically have Egyptian names. Along with prefixes: Example Male Names: Xehthar, Ivaos, Atris, Nadur, Idros, Jafaar Example Female Names: Nekht, Kasora, Tiesis, Ezra, Ybris, Idmir Prefixes Sla’ [Council non-religious leaders] Kel’ [Knowledge Keeper/Religious Leader] Ken’ [High Librarians] Kl’/Ke’ [Librarians/Scribes] Klas’ [Scale Carvers] Slel’ [Infiltrators] Sklas’ [Mentors] Skael’ [Hatchers] Children Children of the Nathair are celebrated for being genetically perfect, and are cared for by mainly the Hatchers but also the other Nathair communally. Parental love and bonds do not exist for the Nathair, each child brought up, learning the quest of all Nathair: to gather knowledge and safeguard it. The children are trained to control their shedding, along with how to blend into society, also taught the ways of religion and traditions, of both the Nathair and the Descendants, should they decide to integrate into them someday in the future. At fifteen, they are given a choice: Work in the library or go out and infiltrate the Descendants. Defectives Nathair culture is based on perfect genetic creations, or what they deem it to be and therefore, those who do not fit this standard shall be considered defective. Defectiveness is based around emotional instability, the Nathair believing that emotions must always be controlled. Religion The Religion of the Nathair is centered around knowledge, knowledge gathering and the passing of knowledge. They have their own Holy books, but most of these books document their laws, and history and things they know about their creator. Worshipping the thought of a creator out there, and their eternal quest of knowledge. Their three founders are considered Minor Deities, much like how Humans pay homage to Saints. Zann’inn is worshiped as a patron of the library and the patron of passing knowledge, Thoth worshipped as the patron of gathering information and finally Ningilin, the patron of guarding knowledge. The three represent the three roles chosen in Nathair society. The head of the Nathair religion is known as the Knowledge Keeper, in charge of the upkeep of the library, and are expected to perform religious ceremonies and speak on the Council of Elders for the Library and the religious sect. It is important to stress that becoming a Librarian is a life oath towards the path of religion, and will set them on the path to becoming a High Librarian eventually. Though rarely, a Nathair can be born having three forms, a snake form, and two human forms of each gender. Human Form Snake Form Their original form, the snake form, has scales ranging from human skin colors all the way to deep greens and earthy tones. They have an unhinged jaw, slitted eyes and sharp teeth. The human forms look like that of any normal human, with normal hair and skin tones. They have the average height and weight of a human, though usually hold more lanky body types having less muscle growth. This makes them weaker physically than other races in terms of brute strength, but are very quick in environments other than the cold. Due to their cold-blooded nature, they’re quite clammy to the touch; no matter what form they’re in. Nathair’s eye color is determined by their gender, hazel for males, green for females. Their eye color remains the same, even after changing forms. Heterochromatic Nathair, having one hazel and one green eye, are born with the ability to change into both female and male human forms. Their Nahair form is still assigned a random gender at birth, but they may choose which gender of human form they transform into. Nathair tends to wear loose-fitting clothing only, mainly in case of need of transformation. This often consists of parkas, robes or shawls. General nomadic type clothing. Nathair Tells Ways for other races to tell a Nathair apart from a human: Their eye color and shape stays the same in all their forms. Nathair eyes have slit pupils which can be easily identified from up close. Their skin is clammy to the touch due to their cold-blooded nature. In stressful situations, scales that are often dormant beneath their skin, would reveal itself. The Nathair have a hard time expressing their emotions in human form, since they are quite used to suppressing them in snake form, that’d they often seem apathetic. They are apathetic and not psychotic, meaning they won’t react wildly or without logic. Their base form’s skin/scales can be revealed if they are cut in human form. Nathair have some sort of coping mechanisms, for when stressed, they’d begin counting beneath their breath, reciting poetry or even fidgeting. Tells Redlines Spoiler The tells must be emoted out. Whether the tell is situational or not. All Nathair develop a coping mechanism, there is no getting out of it. If someone were to emote, say, touching your hand or any other exposed skin, you would have to emote it feeling clammy. Nathair Counter The Nathair counter, a way to change a Nathair within human form back into their original form, is to use Frost/Ice based magic. If used against them, the change would forcibly start, whether they like it or not. Counter Redlines Spoiler The magic itself must actually be used against the Nathair in question. It is ineffective if it is simply something happening near them. Once the change has begun, it cannot be stopped and will continue through to the end. There is no way to stop the change if Frost or Ice based magic is used against you. Example Skins for Nathair Form Redlines Spoiler They have no venom. May not unhinge jaws to swallow humanoids whole. No tails! Even in snake form. You are paralyzed during the changing of forms, unable to speak or make any movements. In human form, they can only have natural skin and hair colors. It is the same human form each time, meaning you cannot be brown-haired turned blonde or tan-skinned turned pale. A Nathair has the same eye color throughout both forms, eye color and shape does not change. Separate forms cannot have completely different personalities that the Nathair does not have control of. Reproduction Nathair contains a reproductive system similar to that of their snake ancestors, meaning they lay eggs and have no exterior genitals. Procreation may occur between one male and one female Nathair, both having to be in their snake form. During pregnancy, a Nathair cannot shift into their human form without risking harm to their child. Two months later, the mother lays a single egg that must now incubate. These eggs are soft and leathery to the touch, averaging 10 inches tall with color matching that of the child’s scales. Eggs require a warm environment to properly hatch. After 7 months, the child awakens and pushes its way out from the egg, emerging in its snake form. Reproduction Redlines Spoiler Nathairs can only reproduce with other Nathairs, they cannot reproduce with any other creature. Procreation may not begin before the age of 25. Nathair may only lay 1 egg at a time. Nathairs cannot transform into their human form when pregnant. The egg is laid after 2 IC month, or 2 OOC days. The egg hatches after 7 IC months, or 7 OOC days. Lifespan Nathair matures around the age of 20. Until then they find it very hard to control their shedding and it could happen at random due to poor control over shape-changing. As they reach 200 years old, they become very frail, rapidly age, and their use of shape-changing becomes more difficult. It is very rare for any Nathair to live past 230 without the use of magic. Past the age of 200, they become increasingly more vulnerable to the cold, having to avoid colder areas they could once be comfortably in. Lifespan Redlines Spoiler Nathair who spends a lot of time within the cold have a shorter lifespan. One cannot go past the maximum age without the use of magic. Past the age of 160, they become weaker and increasingly vulnerable. Speech Due to the split tongue, they have a mixture of tongue flicking, hissing, and elongated speech. When speaking, there is a lot of uses of e, r and a. “Aee queesst of iimportaancee.” Their tongue flicked, slithering out. Essentially, actually doing the elongating but it is of certain letters and vowels. Speech Redlines Spoiler Speech accent only matters in their base snake form. Strengths and Weaknesses Vulnerability to Cold Nathair are cold-blooded and are weak in cold areas, thus any forms of ice magic are very strong against them. They will become sluggish and unable to move quickly, slowing their reaction times. In extreme cold, they will eventually fall into a catatonic state. The longer they stay in sub-zero environments, the worse the effects they experience. 15 minutes: Their human skin, vulnerable to the cold, will begin to peel away, slowly revealing more of their snake form. If wearing tight-fitting clothing during this process, they shall experience growing discomfort and irritation with passing time. 30 minutes: All their human skin will have peeled off entirely, revealing their snake form. 40 minutes: They will become extremely sluggish in movement and their thought process shall degrade. 50 minutes: They will cease to move entirely, having fallen into a coma. 75 minutes: All body functions cease, and they die. Vulnerability to Cold Redlines Spoiler Frost/Ice magic causes Nathair's skin to freeze and slowly peel off revealing the base snake form underneath. If you spend more than 30 minutes in sub-zero environments, you cannot shapeshift until the next OOC day. Less Strength Nathair are physically weak. An adult Nathair having the strength and stamina of a human teenager. They will lose in a duel due to stamina if the encounter goes on for too long. They are also more vulnerable to blunt force attacks. Less Strength Redlines Spoiler They are physically weak, so if it comes to a fight of brute force, they’d lose. No matter what, their strength will not change. By magical means or otherwise. Fast-Paced Adult Nathair movements are faster than an adult human. Being able to outrun most and have a slight advantage in swordsmanship. This is due to their lighter build and a keen sense of vision. Fast-Paced Redlines Spoiler Nathair doesn’t have much concerning stamina. They may be able to run fast but not for very long. If this is in a cold environment, where they are sluggish, they won’t be fast-paced. Eye Protection Nathairs have an ocular scale over their eyes called a spectacle, which is renewed each time they shed their skin. This extra eye layer helps protect Nathair eyes from minor debris or liquids such as sand and water. This also gives them clear vision when submerged underwater due to the outer layer acting as a sort of goggles. Eye Protection Redlines Spoiler Nathair eyes are not protected from any hard, stiff, or sharp objects. A branch, rock, or knife will harm them just as a human’s eye would be harmed. If the water is cold, they will experience a harder time seeing and swimming. Too much time spent underwater can lead to problems when they resurface, such as eyes being dilated, making it hard to see. Mental Description The Nathair mental state is a complex one, as Nathair are born often times with bouts of jealousy and anger, everything they feel emotion wise they feel more of. When upset over something they may get very upset causing them to lash out, or when they get happy it’s almost euphoric, but this contradicts dramatically with a Nathairs natural inclination towards logic and rationality, as well as get in the way of their desire to learn. Thus many young Nathair go through training to learn to control and suppress these emotions, as it will help with their learning and later ensure that it does not impede their undercover work. As feeling or displaying these emotions to their full extent would put great stress on the body leading to forced shedding. Which could potentially see the entire race brought out into the open. Among other things, many Nathair often feel the need to be perfectionist, and younger Nathair may get surges of anger at the sight of even one thing out of place or one thing not going according to plan. Older Nathair, have coping mechanisms to deal with, ones developed over time. Such as breathing, counting under their breath or reciting poetry. As well as being a race of order and structure, they are a race of curiosity and secrecy. They value their privacy, and don’t like to pry into other adult Nathairs life unless it will affect the race as a whole. Though, they like to educate, they know secrecy is what will keep them alive, and thus are naturally more distrusting of others, versus other races. As the Nathair are reptiles they view romance in a very different light to more mammal based races and, are in fact, entirely incapable of it. They may have a single partner, although this is a platonic love, and the two are seen as soulmates or two halves of a whole, who are intellectual equals. The Nathair seek knowledge as a species to prove themselves to the creator who abandoned them. This knowledge they believe should not just be kept for themselves though, and many will go out in their human form to tutor others. Due to the Nathairs rejection by their own creator, many are in fact compassionate, and will seek to help those less fortunate if they happen upon them. Mental Redlines Spoiler The Nathair have a misconstrued idea of right and wrong. Nathair are incapable of feeling romance or love. Despite having massive bouts of anger and jealousy, you will not get an adrenaline rush from it. No Orc type rages or anything of the sort. Nathair have some sort of coping mechanism, when stressed, counting beneath their breath, reciting poetry, fidgeting. This must be emoted out. Abilities Shape-Changing Nathair can change their appearance through the process of shedding their outer skin, in their human or base form they can shed their skin to switch to the other form. This takes four emotes, one for the head, torso, arms, and legs. During shape-changing, you will be paralyzed and unable to move until all four emotes are completed. Example of the Emotes Snake to Human [!] Quite noticeably, Thoth's head would begin to change form. Scales flaked away from his forehead downwards, a rapid shift making way. Human skin would appear from beneath, in place of where the scales used to be, pale skin covering the eyelids, nose and so forth. The scales would flake to the ground below and if one were to look back to him, they’d notice his face is now unerringly human-like in quality, save for the same slitted eyes. [!] The same would begin with Thoth's torso, scales flaking away and human skin replacing where it was prior. His parka allowed this to be an easier process, hidden beneath the loose-fitting clothes. Slowly but surely, a change would be made as scales fall to the ground below, replaced by pale skin. Their build stays much the same, lean with slim shoulders. [!] Outwards from the torso, scales peeled away, from the shoulders downwards. It seemed almost like a domino effect, one spreading down into another until there was nothing left but pale skin. Scales formerly clinging in-between his fingers would flake off. [!] The legs would begin next, scales peeling away from the hips and downwards, taking the longest at the knees and thighs. Pale skin would be revealed, scales flaking away down the shin, ankles, and feet. His shoes would be before the transformation, putting them back on afterward as the transformation is complete and he is no longer paralyzed. Human to Snake [!] Thoth’s human skin would begin to peel off, revealing something of a blue hue underneath. This process would begin at his forehead, steadily making its way downwards, from his nose, ears, mouth and onwards. Scales would be revealed, it having been lain dormant beneath the human skin. As the process continued, his head would eventually be fully that of a Nathair, human skin laying on the ground below. [!] This process would continue beneath his loose-fitting tunic, pale skin peeling away to reveal blue hues and in some places, scales laying dormant beneath. His build stays much the same, lean with slim shoulders. Scales take the place of the human skin, flaking away until their base form, the snake form, is there alone. [!] From the shoulders outwards, human skin would begin to steadily peel away, rapidly making its way down his arms and to the very end, at his fingers. Discarded skin flaked to the ground, determined flakes of skin clinging on, scales shining as they are revealed. [!] The final part of the process would begin, skin making way for dormant scales, flaking down to the earth below. From top to bottom, the change would come rapidly, skin flaking away in favor of blue scales and hues. The shoes would be taken off for this process, before the transformation began, to be put back on later. Now in their original form, Thoth would feel more at home in his own body, stretching as he’d move off, no longer paralyzed from his transformation. Simplified Process: Stand still. The skin becomes dry. Skin peels/sheds. Finished changing/being in snake/human form. Simplified Emotes: [!] Atris would stand still, unmoving. [!] Atris’ skin would begin to appear dry. [!] Atris’ skin would start peeling up all over, revealing dark scales beneath. [!] Atris would now be fully in his snake form, standing atop a pile of dry skin. Shape-Change Redlines Spoiler Nathair can only shed and shape change 2 times every OOC day. Past the age of 160, they can only shape change 1 time every OOC day If you spend more than 30 minutes in sub-zero environments, you cannot shape change until the next OOC day. The human form changes only how you look or speak, it does not change your physical strength. This cannot be used in combat, it requires the Nathair to stand still and shed their skin. You cannot shed in armor or tight-fitting clothing. Shedding cannot occur during pregnancy and they will be stuck in their snake form during this time. One cannot be in half-forms. Meaning, you cannot be partially in snake form and partially in human form. Even if you get interrupted mid-transformation, you’d still be transforming fully to whatever form you may be turning into, no matter of missing limb. OOC Purpose The purpose of the Nathair is to bring a race that has the goal to infiltrate society, gain knowledge and find their creator and meaning of being alive. Therefore, making people question if their friends are really who they say they are. A race whose creator has forsaken them and who only wants to please them. This helps bring not only infiltration rp to the server but also other sorts of religion rp, then the usual seen on LOTC, along with brains over brawn. This also helps to fill a niche, for those who want a race that is at the bottom of the barrel and could only claw their way up from there. This leaves multiple aspects of rp and can help people branch out a bit more, other then the usual of pvp default and wars. The Nathair are not meant to be a fighting race, they are meant to be sly and cunning. They’re not for people who enjoy having brute force rp but for those who like being crafty and working their way through the ranks of places over long periods of time to gather knowledge, educate those around them and help further those as whole. UmbreScye 535 Share Posted October 25, 2019 (edited) Personally I like this concept as it’s very much a toned down and neater version for what I expect a CA race to be. The rest of this section will be solely my opinion, and I hope it maybe helps think about the species a bit more! However, I do think that the sections regarding the ‘eyesight’ of a Nathair are unneeded, and could perhaps just remain as a simple quirk to the species. Meaning, you could probably just merge the section if you still wish to keep it instead of breaking it into two parts. Also, could there be some cases where the ‘spectacle’ could be part of the human form as well? I think that would be interesting, a bit obvious that the person isn’t human, but still a comical idea that their disguises are not always perfect. Early signs that a Nathair is getting ready to shed would also be very interesting. The difference in strength as you stated [be it weaker in combat and a lack of stamina] would probably also effect their actual agility in combat as well. The weight of carrying a [1-handed or 2-handed] sword could be quite immense, and it could essentially weigh down the Nathair. However, one could argue that the exact swords they wield are indeed very lightweight as well. Perhaps they are trained to use multiple to their advantage, and it would be a lot less stressful on their body to carry those weapons. I think this trait easily reflects on their natural ‘cunning’ and ‘sly’ nature as well. For the swordsmanship section, I believe it should be toned down to [light weight] daggers, knives, or swords because of their lack in physical strength. I do like their ‘shedding’ ability and being able to go back/forth between human and true form. I’m glad to see a lot of restrictions and additions to their ‘mental’ stability, especially from being raised at birth. For their age, does it mean that it’s often not seen that Nathair live from 200-300, or is that typically the limit for this species? Personally, I would like to learn a bit more about the ‘The Concealer, The Guardian and The Bestower’ lore as well, and perhaps how Nathair live/strive in a society consisting of just them. Although they have a very concrete idea for their knowledge seeking and distributing nature, it would be cool to see more advances with their culture as well.Apologies for talking so long, but I really do like this idea! I hope that it passes, since I think this is really neat. Overall I’m glad that there are clear red-lines and examples to the abilities as well. +1 Edited October 25, 2019 by UmbreScye

Remove gender swapping and this lorepiece should be fine, otherwise i’ll break myself apart The reason it was added was due to the idea of gathering knowledge and having some rarely able to have two genders, being able to gather more information due to this or be able to help others who are more inclined to be drawn to one gender or the other, such as if a lost child needs a father figure to help them, that Nathair can do so, same if a lost young girl would prefer a mother figure to help them opposed to a strange man walking up to them. This can not be used for erp due to reproduction only being possible through the snake form and the whole point of this race is to not have the ability to feel romantic feelings or lust. If someone did try to use this for erp or anything of the like it would be against the rules and nature of the race. This was not intended to be used as an erp idea, the reason so many redlines exist on them feeling romantic feelings and lust is due to us wanting to avoid any use in erp. Unlike Snow I’m not going to assume your motives are of an erp based nature but why do you view it as needed? This is clearly not an erp race, the Nathair have no ability to feel romance and make a child simply for the progression of their race. You refer to their gender swapping somehow supporting erp, but they may not reproduce in their human form, the only benefit from the gender swapping is a different appearance. Additionally, the Heterochromatic Nathair have 1 biological gender, just two human forms of each gender. 10 hours ago, tadabug2000 said: Heterochromatic Nathair, having one hazel and one green eye, are born with the ability to change into both female and male human forms.
