“With Duty, Comes Honor.”

@Milenkhov

Rodrik,

Twenty-three years have passed since the conflict that rifted our family apart. The unity of man was torn asunder as we placed our allegiances to competing sides claiming for the same cause to rule over humanity. I remember this conflict vividly as I watched you disgrace our family name and cast off your oaths and honor to the Crown who we both swore to protect. I write with uncertainty if this missive ever reaches your eyes. However, if by chance Godan’s pity has kept you on this world, I should like to take this occasion to impart my final sentiments to you.

Our family has continued to prosper within the bounties of our homeland in Haense, a kingdom which you turned your back on and saw for its downfall. Yet, we remain here in the comfort of our hearth and ever resilient to face adversity, as all Kortrevich have pledged. I am unsure of your whereabouts, but I expect no less that you are in some distant land estranged from the luxuries of family and peace of mind. This letter brings me no more satisfaction than you. It pains us all to have gone on this long without any sense of finality and closure.

Pursuant to my duties in this very office that you neglected, I must act with resolve and steadfastness as Knight Paramount of the Kingdom of Hanseti-Ruska to enact the king’s justice and seek out justice from your treachery for a final time.

Despite my reservations for you, your children you granted me tutelage of years ago have grown to both be mature individuals who have casted the world of chivalric vanity and malice to pursue their own dreams. Your children have devoted toward their own truth, pursuing their occupations in the peaceful fertile lands beyond the fray. As for us, we remain trapped within the armor, bearing our pride and folly alike until death parts us from our oath. I await patiently in the confines of Fort Korstadt for your arrival, if what remains of you still draws breath in this life to enact my duty to this land to usher in justice for your wrongdoings.

YOUR COZAER,

Ser Nikolaus Kortrevich

“Rodrik Kortrevich is a monster. He is barely a man. He has treated his family with nothing but contempt, and brought on them nothing but pain and sorrow.” Dietrich shakes his head, and goes back to his drinking. The thoughts of the play he promised for Sarah toll loudly in his mind...

An old Imperial Dragon-Knight would smile, his whereabouts were unknown to many in the Arcasian-realm, although a single figure approached that night; the missive from the Paramount reaching Rodrik’s frigid digits – perhaps it was time for the legendary swordsman to don his armor once more.

The Duke of Westmark would frown: "Ser Rodrik was a Dragon Knight of the Imperium Renatum. He has more honor than all of you combined, and your pathetic attempt to publicly defame him only hides the fact that none of you are brave enough to fight him in a duel" he’d say to the haensetics.

A man who recalls Rodrik in his youth reads the summonings. “The old bastard might be alive,” says the man who looks much like his father Marius II. Aleksandr Barrow mounts his horse and begins a long ride home.

”Gott bless Ser Rodrik, a true Renatian hero,” exclaimed a fellow Renatian patriot by the name of Corwin Freiherr von Alstreim, reminiscing of the glorious days of old. To the Haense rat listing Ser Rodrik’s wide array of accomplishments, he delivered a reminder of a treaty signed by his own rat king in blood.

Quote

The Imperium Renatum and the Kingdom of Hanseti-Ruska both agrees that no prosecution shall be made on combatants and citizens from either side. However any banishments and exiles shall still remain in effect for the sake of the emperor's peace.

A single, long wilted poppy rested where once a city stood. Long dead by the harsh conditions, while from the seven skies a woman watched. Whether smiling or frowning is a mystery

Long past, she only reminded herself of words long lost in the winds of time
Said by her to the man she, despite all, she held dear until the end

"I may be blind, but it's your heart that's covered by a web of lies"

She remembers how captivated she was by his charms - how happy she was for Rodrik after he received his title
Just for her to suffer the pain of never being able to be the mother to her children that she wished to be

And despite the fact that she was very thankful for Nikolaus and the others for taking care of her children, how she dreamt she could still there

“hmph...literally just challenged him to a duel...smoothbrained family of toesuckers don’t seem to know how to read.” Says Duncan, the man of Haense.

Otto receives a copy of the letter as he stood admiring the portraits of family present and past. Upon reading the title, he knew exactly what his cousin had written. Rodrik. Ser Rodrik Kortrevich. Rodrik, the Rat Knight. His name was removed from all family business on Otto’s order at the beginning of the war of two emperors, however Otto has now come to peace with the situation and no longer feels a burning hatred, as just disappointment was left behind. In fact, he had ordered his own son’s sword to be named after him, Rodrik’s Folly, in hopes that no one would ever betray the family again. As Otto finished reading he spoke, “I hope that Rodrik has contemplated his actions and will return to his homeland and seek justice”
