An artist’s rendition of the fallen Ferrymen and Norlandic soldiers.

Year 23 of the Second Age

17th of the Sun’s Smile

As a dark veil took the night sky, a letter was sent to Captain Erik var Ruthern and Domini Lukas Castile, detailing that the Ferrymen had kidnapped an Imperial citizen travelling the roads. Labeled as “Operation Maiden’s Rescue”, the leadership of Lukas Castile (with his loyal sidekick, Simon Pruvia), Olivier de Savoie, and Varon Draskovic, led the virtuous Canonist soldiers towards victory over the pagan invaders and their Ferryman mercenaries. The hordes of Orenian and Metinan soldiers soon marched forth to the outpost of Southbridge, immediately intercepted by the large group of infamous brigands known as the Ferrymen, holding in tow a captive d’Arkent. Soon thereafter, arrows soared through the sky, landing into the breastplate of many Orenians and Ferrymen alike. The battle persisted as it moved into the settlement of Southbridge, where the Imperials and Metinans defended themselves from volleys of arrows and clashing of blades within the fortification.

A warhorn echoed through the air and the Ferrymen drove into the settlement, and fought against the Orenian and Metinan Company. During the heat of the battle, the reigning commander, Lord Olivier Renault de Savoie was injured and a small force of Metinan guards rushed the young Ashford to safety. As Domini Lukas Castile took up the mantle, with a valiant and powerful push by the young lord, the forces drove the Ferrymen back to the Abbey of Saint Robert. As Saint Edmond’s blessing washed over the Canonist soldiers, thus began their retaliation. Soon enough, the forces began to pick off the Ferrymen mercenaries that dared to lay arms on an Imperial citizen.

As the losses of the Ferrymen and Norlandic forces totaled up to 900 soldiers, soon enough they retreated with their tails between their legs as the captive Imperial was rescued to safety. Let it be known that no mercy was given to the pagan invaders for threatening a citizen of the Empire.

"Verily, brother, the Lord GOD is the greatest power, and even all the forces of the world marshalled against Him are as but a breeze before a mountain." (Spirit 4:17)

Ensign Fitzpeter was at home polishing his cannon while this occurred. He is glad to hear the news, though.

Captain Robert Archibald Galbraith would frown yet again sighing as he placed the missive back upon his desk "Dammit , I missed another one." he'd exclaim before sighing yet again and shaking his head.

Bakir Ireheart happily counts the gear from the past raids upon the city of providence. While separating the swords from the axes he’d wonder when Oren would come out and fight Urguan! Such a day that will be! Nevertheless Bakir waited for such a fancy occasion

Pseudo-Constantius Horen de Savin, hearing of the recent humiliating defeat of the Ferrymen, resolves to start his own mercenary company for fame and glory. He browses a Sutican stationery vendor for templates, inwardly pondering a name for his company. It was to his great dismay that he found "Hangmen" and "Ferrymen" taken by prior Imperial claimants.

"Headsmen... Highwaymen - no, too generic. Ealdormen... Oystermen... Hmm.."

Amidst the turmoil and strife, the battered bodies and blood, Ciaran found himself upon the entrance of Providence; his armor dented and broken, spirit wavering as the numerous wounds grew more apparent upon his body. A rasp of air cradled his lips, the cold feeling as ichor dribbled from his mouth - staining the floor red.

His comrades, fallen and murdered. His stamina leaving his body, as was his woes.

A final call was spoken, for there'd be no true life after these injuries. All but a broken shadow of what he once was. And so, Ciaran charged with conviction.

With numb fingers, he'd opt to grasp a fallen mercenary's weapon, the steel broken and warped.

Slain, broken and battered; the man laid against the floor, dying as he lived, amongst the broken woes that he so fervently chased.

Bakir never remembers the MIGHT of the Orenian army daring to raid the homeland of the dwarves. Nevertheless bakir would still sit and wait for such to happen. Eager for a battle of great importance.

The ferryman Worm rowed himself and fellow ferryman Banjo to safety after the skirmish. He seemed high in spirits, slowly looking over to his companion as he spoke. “As my father used to say . . . You win some . . . And you stalemate some . . . Hehe.” Worm collected his Imperial loot and marched on home.
