The Vrena Principality

Winter - 3251

war-and-peace-duel-episode-3.png

It was a chosen field, near the old walls of Stör Avigrad, politely hidden from the city by a thin screen of old pines, planted some many years ago by an old duke in need of privacy. Engström had wanted the parks, but the Sovereign had rebuked him sharply. ‘Better that you two resolve your damn foolishness away from my view, lest I come out myself to end you both.’

Haraldsson smiled a little at that. The ire had been pointed two ways, but still, Engström’s bluster had been something for the ages.

“You are quite certain that there is no other way, Haraldsson?” asked Knieffson, standing beside him in the snowy field. He looked tired, worried, his hat a little off-angle, the yellow feather peppered with snow.

“You have risen from the ranks, sir,” said Haraldsson. “Should this be my final battle, you will replace me. You alone understand the infantry man as I do.”

His second bowed to him so deep that Haraldsson laughed, a short bark, smothered by the snow. “Come now, I’m not the Tsar of Soglasigrad, kiss my cheek and let us have this done with!” But when he departed, and Ulrich could look across the field, he felt just a little alone.

Two sabers separated him from Engström, and he wondered if he would be able to enjoy Tchadkovsky’s reception tonight, at the Sovereign’s palace. Now that was music.

The arbiter, a friend of both, and thus of none, Minister of the Cabinet Holden Peskali strode forth, his face wrought with disapproval, but his words bound by honor. “This is the last chance for a peaceful arrangement, Gentlemen, lest blood be spilled.”

The field, wide and quiet, remained undisturbed. A gruff snort passed Haraldsson’s lips. Engström was a stuck-up prick of the worst sort, but he had been a cuirassier, riding down barbarians in the badlands for a decade before he got his command. The horrors of a single pistol no doubt meant very little to him.

“Advance three paces on my mark, and fire whenever you wish!”

“One, two, three!”

Engström’s pistol muzzle seemed to grow bigger, and bigger, until it encompassed his entire view and Ulrich thought to himself that he could see the ball at the end of that long tunnel, like a rock rolled over the gates of heaven.

A flash of fire, and a rushing wind. Pain flared on his cheek and Haraldsson almost smiled. Pain was good. Across the field, Engström lowered his pistol and stared at him with an unflinching gaze, tall and unmoving. He lifted his pistol and switfly fired.

Engström collapsed without a word, but a gurgled grunt escaping his lips as his second rushed forward along with Peskali, their faces white as the snow was red.

“Damn unreliable weapons,” said Haraldsson as Knieffson rushed up with a somber look on his face. “I was aiming for his leg.” He handed the empty pistol to his second and walked towards his sled without another glance backward. “Have Peter Drakenberg raised to Lieutenant General.”

They settled into the carriage as Engström’s body was lifted off the ground. “Now, what was all this nonsense about those damned Church fools fiddling about in our territories?”

-2nd Corps, under the newly minted Lt. General Peter Drakenberg is sent to winter quarters along the northern border. The General is already well aware of his duties, come Spring. The total annihilation of Church forces across the border, and the finding of the Holy Relic which they seem so intent on appropriating from the hands of the People.

-God & good weather willing, the Rövfagel flies over the church-held lands during the winter, attempting to locate a concentration of force, or the general disposition of their people across the region, while the Ny Tid flies to the river Vod and docks in Stör Avida, waiting further orders.

-Vrena public attitude turns decidedly against Mirasol as news begins to filter outward of its current position vis-à-vis to the Concordat, and Mirasol musicians find themselves facing a rather lukewarm reception in the venues within which they are invited to play -which remain rather numerous, if their skill is of any true worth- . Still, music is music, and the Concordat Officer is the exception within the midst, invited as he is to play in a variety of prestigious venues along with Tchadkovsky.

Ultimately, he if seated at the same table as Gustav Sigmarsson, Sovereign of Vrena, during a reception, where, in a round-about fashion, Gustav hints at Vrenian interests in the benefits and demands of Concordat cooperation.

Overview

Winter having set in over the siege of the Jizuru, the Shogunate Army surrounding the settlement, shivering and suffering some attrition while those in the town were warm and ate. Tanuki would watch over the enemy town during the nights watching the people and their habits as an army surrounds their homes. He admired them for their bravery and faith in their leader, wondering what it took for the trust between the people and their Lord to grow to such a degree that none were worried despite being outnumbered and under siege with finite supplies. Shivering slightly Tanuki would watch as he could see his breath even with himself wrapped up warmly the man would traverse the City watching the people, the soldiers and listening to their words as he blended in and to most seemed just like any other citizen. He would return to the duties his own Lord had trusted him with, wondering if the trust between the people of his village and the Shogun were as strong as Jizuru.

In the Siege Camps outside the City the second in command Saito Hiroto would be doing his rounds inspecting the troops he was personally responsible for, hearing the whispers of discontent about ‘Old General Slaughter’ lamenting the potential of being thrown once more at the enemy once the spring came. Two soldiers would salute him as he entered his tent, the General sitting at his desk and looking over the vast amounts of paperwork that Gorou had left him to do. Requisition orders for equipment and reinforcements, letters of condolences to families back home. He was given a thankless job by a superior many disliked, but he would do it as he must follow his orders. His rising popularity and prominence with the army and court officials back home didn't matter what work he did, Gorou represented the Samurai Old Guard, while he was the new and the future and he knew the Shogun would favour him when the time came.

Königreich Arktis-Münzenberg

For love of King, and country.

As the mausoleum entombed Klaus-Wilhelm III, the late Queen of Arktis gave a gut wrenching eulogy to which even the toughest of soldiers would have even shed a tear. None could escape a wet eye. After she had wrapped up, all looked towards Reinhardt as he paid his respects to the great man’s tomb. Kneeling beside it, he bowed his head slightly before turning to the widow and her children. To each he hugged and gave his sympathies before leaving the event. With the death of his father in law, Reinhardt was somewhat devastated seeing as he had just gained another father figure in his life only for him to be stripped away. He spends time with the daughters and wife Klaus left behind, ensuring their safety and status remains firm. Nothing shall happen to them as long as he draws breath. Come a week after his death he receives an envoy from the parliament of Arkits, offering the crown of old King Klaus to Reinhardt. At first there was reluctance in his voice as he spoke to his wife on the matter, but after some back and forth with Kristina, Reinhardt accepts the crown of Arktis.

The foundries, much like last season, continue to roll out equipment for soldiers. The inheritance of the late King Klaus-Wilhelm’s army will greatly complement Münzenbergs current forces, but still it is not enough. More barrels are rifled, and cannons casted. The nation calls, and it is our duty to answer. Dieter is tasked with bringing the Arktisian armies into the fold, getting full troop numbers, their movements, and everything else in between.

Actions:

Reinhardt accepts the crown of Arktis, swearing to bear their burdens as his own. Order, peace, and prosperity will continue to reign so long as Reinhardt II von Hausser still draws breath. Work immediately begins to incorporate Artkis’ holdings.

THE MITTELLÄNDISCHE CIVIL WAR

All hell has broken loose in the Confederation - following a string of humiliations, and munity of the armed forces, the nation has violently torn itself apart into four halves. General Klein, of the northern border army, has declared the creation of a Military Reconstruction Authority in a bid to seize the apparatus of state from the Capital, but was fended off by loyalists of the Principality of Suden. Both of these States see themselves as the most pure succession of the Confederation, true inheritors of what the Confederation stood for. To the south, the border with Westerveld, General Waltz of the Sudveld Freikorp was declared Governor of the State, having presented seperationist policies in favor of an independent state in opposition to the Confederation - he has been reported to have attempted talks with Westerveld.

Smashed between these rogue states lies the United Communes of Arnau. In a surprising upset of the natural order, the army elements stationed in the region refused to turn their arms against the general populace as unrest reached a boiling point throughout the Confederation. When the citizenry demanded access to the armories, the soldiers obliged and joined arms, establishing together a new adhoc armed forces - the Black Guard (Army) of the Revolution, named so after the color of the Freikorp uniforms. It is during this revolution that the peoples of Arnau unshackled themselves from their traditional classist restrictions, leading to the extinguishment of the wealthy and established powers and rise of a . By all standards, even on an international level, the Union has taken on an extremist and radical form of nation building, with the new government adhering to a fledgling ideology it has dubbed ‘Communism’, a political theory forwarded by a famed Arnauist intellectual, Friederich Vogel, that entails the dismantling of social classes and private ownership - among other things. Vogel continues to propagate the necessity of the proletariat to rise up against their masters in whatever shapes they come throughout the Broken Coast, so that the common people may lead their nations to the Golden City of the Sun on an international scale, no longer discriminated against by arbitrary boundaries.

The Revolution initially made grounds into Sudveld and Suden, but were stopped short by brutal reprisals by the established governments there. The Principality of Suden, in its inherent disdain for uppity commoners, labelled the Revolution a gross degeneracy of social order and of everything good - so when the workers burst forth from their factories, they were met by hails of grapeshot, all but wiping out the major components of the Revolution’s spread in Suden. Further west from Suden, the Revolution saw no gains at all in the lands controlled by the Military Authority, with reports having filtered through that General Klein ordered severe crackdowns on Volgist-Communists before they could even fully organize. The Revolution had the most success outside of Arnau in the State of Sudveld, with communist uprisings stretching all the way south along the Vistula - though such was stopped short by a hastily assembled Army of Sudveld Freikorps. Most citizens of Sudveld have a seemingly natural affinity to Vogelism, having long embraced liberal ideals themselves, but at the same time, also view the Revolution as a dangerous threat to the established social order - one that will incur the wrath of its foreign neighbours and ultimately be the death of the Mittelland Idea.

THE MILITARY RECONSTRUCTION AUTHORITY OF THE CONFEDERATION

LED BY THE MILITARY JUNTA UNDER COMMAND OF GENERAL CHRISTOPHER KLEIN

Extremist elements of the armed forces in Suden have declared their opposition to Suden and Arnau’s claim to the reunification of the Confederation. Stationed out of Fortress Vlachev in the far north, Regiments of Regulars easily swept aside Revolutionary Militias and other organizations early on in the Revolution as they continued their forceful induction of splinter-states. Their actions have been increasingly brutal in their oppression of deviancy, having been reported to have had massacred thousands of Vogelists, as well as the imprisonment of even more non-conforming vagabonds into concentration camps. So far, in a bid to seize the Capital to assert the Authority’s rightful rule over the Confederation, General Klein has commenced a major offensive against the Principality of Suden.

THE PRINCIPALITY OF SUDEN

LED BY PRINCE-CHANCELLOR MICHAEL VON SUDEN

The core successor of the Confederation, the Principality is still in control of much of the executive authority of the previous government. Prince Michael, though the propagator of the failures that led to the Civil War has continued to hold on to his power as of yet, benefiting from the system of inherited wealth and of the direct control the Prince has over his armed forces. It is currently defending against General Klein’s offensive, but is also forced to contend with its eastern neighbour, the Republic of Westmark, who will no doubt have aspirations of taking total control of the twin-cities of the Vistula for itself. Prince Michael has petitioned the Kawahara Shogunate for aid and continues to fight a bitter fight.

THE UNITED COMMUNES OF ARNAU

LED BY THE SUPREME COUNCIL OF COMMUNES

Arnau was the hardest stricken State of the Confederation following the failure of the Bush War, with much of its soldiery, the 1st Division primarily, having been executed by the Freeholder following the Battle of Jamesvale, along with their General, von Arnau. Following these consecutive series of humiliations and defeat, what was once simple discontent, now turned to feverish Revolution - workers began to organize protests, aided by their counterparts in the rural communities. A general revolt first commenced in Arnau City against the established powers of the Stately Government there, a revolt of which was met with no resistance and were instead joined by the regiments garrisoned throughout the city. Overnight, this cascading effect was propagated to the rest of Arnau, with many turning to immediate reunification under this new chaotic order. Friedrich Vogel, the father of the Revolution, had spurred within the hearts of many, a better cause for all Mankind - the establishment of Communism, in which the proletariat will no longer be stratified into arbitrary and discriminatory social classes, and instead unite under one, indivisible. Though he couldn’t exert his influence further out from Arnau at the time, he was able to leverage his influence within the Revolutionary Guards to coerce the various communes of Arnau to adopt Communism - forgoing private ownership and installing zealot to positions of authority in order to continue the Revolution outwards.

THE STATE OF SUDVELD

LED BY GOVERNOR-GENERAL STEFAN WALTZ

The most moderate of the splinter-states, Sudveld had declared its neutrality at the beginning of the conflict, but such was ignored as the Revolution indiscriminately swept south to claim much of the State for its own cause. A hastily assembled Freikorp met the Revolutionary Militias in battle along in the Vistula and quickly routed them back to Arnau. In response to this, Sudveld announced its objective to separate from the Confederation entirely, to forge ahead its own independence alongside with the potential amiable Westerveld Dominion guiding it.

ACTIONS OF THE UNITED COMMUNES OF ARNAU

The Black Guard of the Revolution has begun its earnest reunification of the State of Sudveld - where diplomacy failed to unite the two polities, armed forces will suffice for now. An Army has begun to cross the border upon the ancient Outsider highway. [Reunification War]

Though the Revolution had commenced in earnest a few months ago, it was an abrupt affair at first - violently birth immediately following the catastrophe at Jamesvale. As the news broke of the fate of the 1st Division of Arnau, the State broke into a delirious frenzy, and was quick to overthrow the representatives of the Confederation throughout Arnau. During this period, the Revolution was a disordered mess of conflicts of interests, with prominent radicals pushing their own ideologies into the cesspit. Though such would last no longer, as order returned to the Revolution with Friederich Vogel's return to the political scene. Though he was the father of the modern communist ideology, the explosive zealotry of the Revolution had overwhelmed him at first, rendering him temporarily incapable as he organized his pieces on the proverbial board of politics. The Vogelist Faction, a political party loyal to Friedrich responsible for having established the grassroots of the Revolution, in conjunction with the Freikorps of Arnau, were quick to restore sensibility to the people when the order was given. Now months into the Revolution, a formal government had been established in cooperation with the multitude of communes throughout Arnau, with the communists ideals fully embraced. The Vogelist Faction remains a quasi-paramilitary organization bent on spreading Friedrich's ideals to all in Arnau - educating the peasantry, issuing lectures on the sides of roadways, and other publicity stunts in hopes to further propagate the burgeoning ideology. Most of all, ensuring that the people kept in line with the greater good. [Stoking the flames of Revolution]

A group of attrited Regiments of Line Infantry are combined into one, scrounging up whatever meager resources the Union can provide the fusiliers with equipment. [1,000v, 2AP, 2S]

Various attempts are made to acquire gunpowder through dubious and illegal means - mostly through the blackmarket. Smugglers first establish connections with the underworld of the Westerveld Dominion in hopes to acquire such gunpowder, shipping them north along the Vistula into Arnau disguised as merchants of Westerveld. [3GP, 3,000v]

Suggested by Vogels and established by the Supreme Council, the Commissariat of Foreign Affairs is formed with the objective of spreading the Revolution internationally as it exports fervent Revolutionaries disguised as refugees to other countries affected by severe class dysfunctions. Connections begin to form, but no definitive actions are taken as these Revolutionaries work primarily on establishing their networks. [Networking gommunism throughout the world]

Königreich Zunderland

L0YS5GX.png

Autumn 3250

"Your majesty?" A soft voice interrupts the young Queen in her train of memories. "Y-yes..?" - "You are expected by General Elsteeden. He is waiting in your study." - "Of course, I shall join him momentarily." As she waves the servant away, who leaves with a polite bow, Isabella wipes the corners of her eyes. She was Queen now. The sole ruler of Zunderland. Her father passed away a mere three days ago, a crowning ceremony has been done quickly, just yesterday. To her it still feels unreal. He father Heinrich has been such a strong man throughout his lifetime, steadfast in both word and principles. But this sickness he caught was sufficient to beat him. After months of being bound to the bed, his life was exhausted and he passed away in presence of his sole child and daughter Isabella, his personal medicus and a couple of servants. The young Queen would never forget the expression of regret on her father's face and his last words. "Isabella, my dear. I leave our legacy to you. Whatever way you choose for the people of Zunderland, I will not judge you. Be strong. Be successful. But most importantly... be happy, my dear daughter. Be happy..."

A clacking sound of hurried steps approaches quickly, General Elsteeden turning about from his discussion with a present adjutant. The door swings open and the Queen enters, accompanied by four men of the Königswache. "My queen. My condolen-" - "Save your words, General. I will mourn as I see fit. You are aware as to why you are here?" The General furrows his brows, being taken aback slightly, as he is interrupted by the young woman who was now his liege. "No, your majesty, I am afraid not." Isabella steps around the centrally placed office desk of the study and takes a seat in the comfortable velvet chair. As she sits down, she appears distracted for a moment, as her hands feel the soft armrests of the chair. The King, her father used to sit here for at least half the day throughout his entire lifetime. In the end, after said moment, the Queen snaps out of it and stares at the General and his Adjutant. "You ordered an expeditionary force without my knowledge? Order mobilization of troops without my knowledge?" - "Yes, your majesty, I did." - "Why?" - "I considered it the most viable course of action at that point in time, as the reconaissance force was deterred by a horde of.. tribals. Considering an excursion for training purposes in the realms of pacifying a province could be useful." - "Lovely thought. No parley? Just occupying?" - "Yes. I am afraid so." The General closes. Isabella narrows her eyes, as she leans back into her chair. Her gaze wanders over another man present in the room. "Major von Rabenfels. I have need of your services." - "Yes, my queen." The mentioned man, already in his fifties steps forward, as the Queen pulls out a piece of parchment and writes something down. She stamps it and gives it a beautiful fine signature, definitely from a lady's hand, seals the note. "Bring this message to the Commander of the expeditionary force. By order of the Queen they are to withdraw back over the bridge to Zunderland." - "Of course, my queen." The Major receives the sealed note, salutes and leaves the room promptly, leaving behind the General, Adjutant, the four guards and two other members of the military. "General. May I briefly remind you of your position?" - "No, your majesty, I am your humble servant." - "May I remind you as of who lives to our South beyond the river?" - "No, your-" - "Good. General Elsteeden, for insubordination and disregard for the chain of command, you are hereby sentenced to three days of house arrest, the public will be given notice of the events that transpired. That is all. Dismissed." Robert Elsteeden eyes the Queen in surprise, opening his mouth for a reply, but then considers better. He salutes and leaves the room, joined by two of the guards and his adjutant. "Now, you two..." the Queen begins to address the remaining officers in the room as the door closes behind the leaving General.

Her breath forms little puffy clouds, as the Queen traverses the Military Courtyard in company of Major Neusig, recently promoted commander. "The General does not seem to like me very much, Major Neusig." - "No, no, my Queen, on the contrary, I assure you he is your most loyal follo-" - "Major. Please don't sell me short. I am no simple woman." - "I-... forgive me, your majesty, I meant no offense." Isabella only eyes the Major briefly with a cold expression before finally passing through the main door on the other side, past two saluting Königswache soldiers. A few minutes later after traversing two flights of stairs three long corridors she is let into a room by yet another guard, where a whole entourage of officers and commanders are in midst of a discussion, looming over a huge map showing the entire region. As they notice the Queen entering, they all salute in unison.

Among them, General Robert Elsteeden steps forward. "My queen, we are delighted to have you here. Our apologies for inviting you over, it would have been much of a hassle to haul all our charts, maps and ledgers of the army over to you in the palace." - "One could assume so." Isabella replies, her voice clearly coated in disdain for this arrogant man. But she needed this arrogant man right now, because he was leading the armed forces of Zunderland. Well, needed him until she found a suitable replacement. "So? What were you gentlemen discussing?" she inquires as she approaches the map table to get herself acquainted with the situation. The assembled officers trade a few nervous looks. The General noticing their hesitation to reply takes the charge: "Our expeditionary force has been cut off by hostiles named the Muhajideen." Isabella mustered her composure as she eyes up at the General. "And?" - "We have rallied the forces for countermeasures. We will not leave our men behind." - "Good. Now, you and you." the Queen points to two attending Lieutenant Colonels. "Fetch me writing material. Time to bring movement into things. And to conduct diplomacy, for one."

Viktor Igorovich Wolcov shook snow from his greatcoat as he stepped into court, tossing it to several nearby servants. The place was a throng as always - flag officers hoping to be assigned favorable duties in the coming year joked amongst themselves, peasants allowed a petition today cowered in one corner under the tortuous mockery of local nobles, and hand-picked sycophants from the Western Church watched with rapt attention as the regent entered. Past them all was an empty throne before a portrait of the young tsar...grossly outdated of course, but few besides Viktor knew just how much Alexei had changed.

“My friends!” Viktor bellowed in a rolling baritone as he strode through the crowd. “As always, my brother regrets that he could not be here today. Sadly his ailment remains unchanged. But!” He reached the throne as he always did at this point in the speech, and sat. It was mostly for the newcomers. “I assure you, His Majesty Alexei II has given me the most very specific of instructions for today.”

“We are all praying for the tsar’s health, my regent…” The chief rabbi of the Western Church replied, bowing almost beyond the point of decency.

“As should we all.” Viktor solemnly replied with a naturally carrying voice. “But prayer alone cannot save us. That is why I have an announcement before we get on with our regularly-scheduled business.” His eyes drifted to the military men, who straightened at his gaze. “You all know of the heretics that general Lipovsky found in October. Given half the chance, they would topple our regime, burn our beloved tsar at the stake and kill all that supported him. Is this acceptable to you?”

“No!” cried the soldiers in unison, as if they had rehearsed. That was good, because they had.

“And when you see their leaden faces across our border,” the regent snarled, “Does this seem like all is right in the world?”

“No!” replied the soldiers again, not one of them missing a beat. Viktor almost smiled.

“Do you think that we can claim to be doing our duty, when even a moment passes that they live there untroubled!?”

“NO!!!” replied the whole room, even some of the peasants.

“I would destroy them myself,” Viktor intoned, his voice dropping to a low growl. “If I could stand to leave my brother here in his hour of suffering. But as I am detained in Soglasigrad, the tsar has selected another to lead our spring campaign.” He stood from the throne, turning back to the soldiers. “You are all fine and brave officers. I know that you will do your duty as SAMILIEV HYDEVSKY commands!”

At the announcement, the soldiers turned like clockwork to salute a general in the back of the room, a large bearded man with round glasses. Hydevsky was already standing proudly, the picture of a Vodic conqueror. With a practiced flourish, he bowed to the regent in acceptance.

“Good,” said Viktor, sitting back down in satisfaction at the well-executed production. “Do win Soglasigrad glory. Now...to the petitions.” The regent relaxed, and motioned forward the first of the peasants, who he was silently thrilled to see looked totally awestruck.

----------

In the very depths of winter, the Vod itself freezes over until it is almost as icy as relations with Mirasol. Long regarded as a backwater dwarf kingdom, it is perhaps unsurprising that they would invite outsiders to shroud them behind their coattails. Soglasigrad has had no dealings with the great powers, nor does it have any wish to.

Westmark Republic
mz5g2Uw.png
News begins to spread quickly within the Republic of Westmark, its citizens speak of the newest legislation passed within the Assembly. The debates and arguments went on for weeks as the bill went through a circus of red tape and opposition.

However, on October 2nd at 8:48 PM the Assembly announced the passing of a bill establishing an official state religion, officially recognizing the Church as the sole religious authority in the country. The vote was close at just barely over a seventy five percent majority but it still passed, many opposed it on the grounds that the Republic wasn’t a religious state and that freedom of religion was a state practice.

Almost immediately following the official accomplishment of the bill Westmark and Westerveld officials have been meeting and officiating on an Alliance with one another, some question the recent bill feeling it was related to the push to gain an Alliance with Westerveld. Though these concerns have greatly been drowned out by the feeling of relief in having a powerful ally across the river with recent tensions growing.

---

Major Aayden Steinhäusser sat atop his horse watching from a hill as his men trained, their horses galloping and turning in formations. Behind him was the river that separated Westmark and Arkit.
“So do you think they’re ready to fight?” He asked his junior officer.

“I believe so Major, the men of Westmark are well trained. With recent events I can only imagine the Monarch to our south is wanting his ‘rightful’ lands back.” The two men would chuckle, Aayden’s attention was diverted to another man riding up on a horse. His uniform indicated Lance Corporal, likely a messenger.

“Major Steinhäusser! Orders from General Maisel Sir.” He would ride up next to him offering a sealed letter. Taking the parchment he’d not waste time opening it. “Is it another training exercise for later in the week?”

Aayden looked at the paper for a good minute, his junior officer looking over at him with a curious look. “Ready the men, all of them.” He turned his horse and started into a fast gallop. “Cancel the training exercise and rally up by the fort!” He ordered. The Junior officer quickly caught up after him. “Sir if I may-”

“Transfer orders, we’re needed at the Capital. Move!”

The Kawahara Shogunate

A state of unease lays over the Shogunate as the winter settles in. The news from across from Lake Towada disturbs the leadership as a potential ally falls to infighting. As the land unclaimed around the Shogunate shrinks, news of the metal men in the north leads to discussions between men of flesh and blood about the potential expansion of the Shogunate in the future… Be it lay with their Germanic neighbour they are friendly with; the unholy men of iron to the north; the weakened state of Pith to the east; or even the mighty bear of Kempannen to the south.

The generals Hirata and Sobuka greet each other, the two having not seen each other for months. “Our final adventure friend. The last frontier for the Shogunate before our noses must be bloodied.” Hirata would start.

“Yes, and thankfully we have had this avenue to expand. We can manage for a few years now without war, no bloodshed for our people is always to be in need.” Sobuka replies.

“Well, regarding that. We have other orders once we are done here.” Hirata says, handing Sobuka a folded piece of parchment. Reading it, Sobuka frowns and sighs, “I see.” he says, “Well it was inevitable.”

The two Exploratory Divisions muster, the light playing off of the lacquered helmets. Muskets and rifles dip up and down with the step of the men, and the whinnying of horses are heard as the dragoons and Kazi Kihei scout out the land. The Shogunate is pacifying the last land available to them without bloodshed.

The room, full of incense, look at each other in their kimonos, the shoji insulating them from prying ears. The faces of the Kawahara men are implacable, as their tradition demands, waiting for the first man to speak.

One slowly raises himself from his seat, composed before he begins the meeting. “Greetings to all of you here. I have little to say but get to the point. The mongaikan have left us the great roads we use, ones we can never hope to replicate for many years to come. They also have left other Ibutsu, the relics of magic, that we are lacking in. The rise of those metal men in the north are proof of such gifts, and while we do not need to fear these iron warriors for now, we must seek out other ibutsu like them. They may be useful or not, and while the curse follows them; we must succeed. Many of you here have devoted your lives to the shogunate and some of you shall lose it in this search. We have given funds for your use in this search, and we expect the best from you.”

Trade with the Kingdom of Procterland, eight tonnes of materials for one thousand and one hundred Kawahara Yen each.

Building of one town in the Province of Kurei.

Building of one foundry in the Province of Kurei.

Building of two factories in the Province of Kurei.

Building of two Gunsmiths in each of the following Provinces: Ayaba, Soeda, Iwata, Furano, and Gujo.

Building of one steel mill in each of the following Provinces: Ayaba, Soeda, Iwata, Furano, and Gujo.

Recruitment of the following regiments: one of Lancers, four of Dragoons, two of Carabiners, and one of Light Cannon.

Both the 1st and 2nd Exploratory Divisions are sent to the last unclaimed province in the north (F32), in order to secure it for the Shogunate.

The First Corps remains in Soeda, drilling and preparing for action… Perhaps later in this season? Orders remain standing waiting on some signal. The Gishi, the Shogunate sappers, prepare ammo & supply dumps for the army, improving infrastructure and stockpiling building materials for the army to use.

Men are sent to scour the Shogunate and their lands for the location of ‘Relics’ from the outsiders, for now they have two thousand Kawahara Yen at their disposal.

The CNS Ravenrock in harbor

The Commonwealth warship, CNS Ravenrock had arrived early in the morning, as it’s whale oil lamps faintly showed through the fog coverage. The lumbering vessel was practically blind in the blanket of mist; the aid of several tug boats required to guide the armored frigate to her moorings.

The ship had returned from a diplomatic voyage. The captain, meanwhile, was just glad she had not been fired upon- a warship ambling into the port of Procteland, albeit with a flag of truce flown. The Proctelanders were receptive enough, clearing the port of commercial vessels, and allowing their cargo to be disembarked. This ship had carried President Harriman, who arranged for a secret meeting between the two powers to unite against Einzner’s fiefdom.

Harriman pondered it all, from within his presidential cabin. That went well. he thought, penning some thoughts into a notebook as he gazed out the starboard windows. He could vaguely make out the shapes of tall, clustered buildings in the distance. He knew the silhouette well- reasoning they had arrived in *some* Commonwealth city. His stomach growled, longing to return to land.

The harsh knocks sounded against the room’s wooden door in quick succession. Like sandpaper to his ears, the president flinched, nearly dropping his pen. “Come in.” he called.

An ensign soon stood at the door, snapping to attention. “Mr. President, you’ll be glad to hear we’ve arrived in New Vernon; the shuttle is awaiting you, now.”

“Thank you, sailor.” Harriman smiles, rising from his chair. He goes to collect his belongings- the sensitive documents, not the luggage he’d otherwise have his aides carry. “I’m starving. The galley food wasn’t for me.”

“I can’t stand it, myself, Mr. President. I’ll be grabbing a hearty platter upon shore leave.” the ensign smiled.

Harriman snaps, “Now that sounds like a good idea.” The President turns back around, neatly piling pieces of parchment into a briefcase.

Over the noise of the rustling of papers, Harriman had missed the tapping of boots against wood as another individual stood at the door, this one entering the room altogether. He knew him as a member of his administrative staff. “Mr. President.” the man said.

“Yes?” said Harriman impatiently, who seemed to have misplaced his inkwell, swearing he just had it with him.

“You have a meeting with the Chiefs of Staffs today.”

“Well, can you tell them to wait?” said Harriman, an audible growl rupturing throughout the room. “I’m fiending for land-food.”

“Uh, no, Mr. President.” the aide stammered. “They’re waiting for you at JOC Uxbridge.”

“Can you tell them to wait for me at a restaurant?” The President shook his head, turning his anger upon the wordless ensign who still stood at the door. “What’re you waiting for, son? An invitation or something?”

“No, quite the opposite, sir.” said the ensign uneasily. “A dismissal, actually, Mr. President.”

“Go on, then.” The President waved. The man began to turn away. “Wait, no-” Harriman decides, recalling the man; the confused ensign returning.

“Aye, Mr. President?”

“You’re from here, right?” Harriman questioned.

“Yes, sir. Born and raised.”

“You strike me as a man of fine taste. Where’s the best eatery around here?”

“That’ll be the Dockside, Mr. President. Finest clams and scallops in the Commonwealth. Always booked, unfortunately.”

Harriman perked. “That’s it.” He turned to the aide. “Get me a reservation there.”

“Sir, what about the Chiefs of Staff Committee meeting?”

“******* invite them.” Harriman cursed, seeming ready to throw something at the ignorant man. “Table for  six, call it.”

“I’ll make the arrangements.” the aide said uncomfortably, making a note to himself with a coal and paper.

The ensign chuckled, languishing to actually dine there himself.

“Now get lost, both of you.”

At that, the two men make themselves scarce.

Harriman, once again left to his devices, sighs, “No one ever picks up what I’m putting down.”

Joseph, is spending the winter in his cottage in Amity. He has refurbished his parents' old traditional inn, yet has retained its disdained and decrepit charm of a country side inn. However, in the interior of the house, you receive a taste of the usual grandeur afforded to him. Intricately etched wood carvings embossed on the walls, railings laced with gold, and glass chandeliers which have taken many hours of sweat off a laborer's brow to craft.

At his countryside house, it is supposedly where he escapes from the annoyances of industry, and the disgruntled merchants and politicians he must deal with on a daily basis.

Yet, even in Amity, the call of the factories still seem to permeate such a serene and tranquil recess. He spends much of his time locked in his office, however, on this particular sunday morning, he had spent the previous night engrossed in his record books for far too late. It was time to take a stroll outside, through his 1,000~ acres he had purchased when he expanded his land, when his wealth was maturing.

His son, Samuel Winthrop, is a rather peculiar boy. Always dripping with energy, he was one of those boys who never seemed to tire, with an infinite fountain of laughter. Yet, he was always clumsier than most boys, and began speaking, and walking a lot later than most other children his age, and was more awkward than most. On this particular morning, strangely, he recognizes his fathers baritone steps echoing through the house, followed by three consecutive rasps on the door. Immediately, he stuffs a book under his pillow, and leaps out of bed. He quickly straightens his trousers and vests out, removing any noticeable lint or dust particles, before he walks over to the door, opening it.

“Samuel,” his father blurts, the corners of his lips peaking for a minute in a function reminiscent of a smile, yet returning to their static state quickly after. He kneels down, reaching Samuels eye level. He grabs his soft, delicate hand. “Come ride with your father, Samuel, through the hills, come.” He says, rising, tugging him along. Samuel, like the good boy he was told to be, listens to the father, and tags along.

“Father, father! Look!” He says, pointing over the hills. A family of deer stands idle, their speckled fur gracefully weaving in and out of the tall grasses. Joseph's head immediately turns, beckoning his son. “Quiet down now, Samuel. They are shy creatures, they will flee at the slightest possibility of danger.” His horse lurches to a stop, finding entertainment in the small grasses within his reach. The pair stop for a minute, watching the small herd graze.

Samuel, however, had differing ideas than that of his father. “Come on papa! Catch me!” He says, and the horse springs to life, galloping down the trail. “Stop, Samuel!” He says, his chestnut horse sprinting after him. Samuels horse was young, and headstrong, while Joseph’s horse was mature, and ripe. There was no contest, Joseph would never catch him.

For nearly 20 minutes, Joseph rode down the winding path, up hills and over creeks, yelling and hollering after his disobedient child. Finally, he arrives at a small patch of forest, where he sees the gray horse idle, without Samuel. “Samuel!” Joseph cries out, frantically. He spins his horse around, neighing, surveying the forest ground frantically. His horse neighs, and he spots his lifeless body beside a large fern. “Samuel!” He cries out again, immediately dismounting and rushing by his son's side.

He tries to shake him to life, yet there is no response.

“The Coalition (The Commonwealth, Westmark, Procteland, Pith and the Kawahara Shogunate) issue a declaration of war against Kempennen, intent on removing Josef von Einzner from power…”

Spring, 3251 After the Departure

At long last, after a Winter harsh and cold, Spring returns to the Broken Coast. The worst of the snows melt, but the growing season of 3251 is icy and frigid. Though there is little snow, and the Spring rains are comparatively light this year, the air is frosty, and the last vestiges of Winter’s breath still clings to the trees and the grass. The grass grows slowly, the trees bud late and the flowers bloom with great lethargy. Livestock remains hungry, and it is a poor start to the farming year. (-1 manpower per province this turn)

War rages in what was once Middenland, as the new “Vogelist'' movement seeks to gain traction by force. The country is shattered, and each of the new territories seek to crush the others, even as other, greater dangers rear their ugly heads. Arnau’s Black Guard, in an attempt to break the back of Sudveld, launches a swift invasion in the dying days of Winter, and it seems Middenlander is now destined to spill the blood of Middenlander.

Further north, General Klein, leader of the Military Reconstruction of the Confederation, leads his army in a winter offensive against elements of the Mittelandische monarchy based from the capital of Mittelheim in a bid to seize the city and the legitimacy that comes with it. Though he triumphs in a small field engagement some distance west of the capital, he is unable to defeat the Royal Army in earnest, laying siege to the capital in late winter. Furthermore, there are reports of several thousand mercenaries flocking to Klein’s army from Iurd.

In Westerveld, the people rejoice as an alliance is signed with the Wesmark Republik, following the country’s acceptance of the Church as the sole religious authority. But despite this progress with their neighbours, Westerveld looks bitterly over the border, where the heathen nation of Soglasigrad runs rampant, and even goes so far as to threaten the sanctity of the Church. Rumour abounds, that Kommandant-General Goen’s Commando has been stationed near the contested territory.

Perhaps the most shocking news this year, is the declaration of war leveled against Kempennen by the Maritime Commonwealth, the Kingdom of Pith, the Kawahara Shogunate, the Westmark Republik and the Kingdom of Procteland. Despite this startling, unwarranted aggression, Einzner wastes no time with foolish skirmishes or loitering - he musters his armies to war, intent on crushing those who would dare oppose Kempennen.

----------

Here's forty vozins  on the drum

For those who volunteer to come,

To 'list and fight the foe today

Over the hills and far away

[Chorus] O'er the hills and o'er the Main

Through Arktis, Westerveld and Zlane,

Einzner commands and we obey

Over the hills and far away.

When duty calls me I must go

To stand and face another foe

But part of me will always stray

Over the hills and far away

[Chorus]

If I should fall to rise no more

As many comrades did before

Then ask the pipes and drums to play

Over the hills and far away

[Chorus]

Then fall in lads behind the drum

With colours blazing like the sun

Along the road to come what may

Over the hills and far away

[Chorus]

Through smoke and fire

And shot and shell

And to the very walls of hell

But we shall stand and we shall stay

Over the hills and far away

[Chorus]

Vrena Principality

II Corps marches north and prepares for the inevitable conflict with Church crusaders, come spring. Their preparation is aided greatly by the Rovfagel, which does indeed locate a concentration of Church forces within a complex of Outsider ruins (Discord)

Discussions regarding the opening of channels between the Principality and the Concordat can be had..

Yashida Bakufu

The winter is bitter and cold, more than a few men are lost to desertion, disease, or the elements as the Yashida struggle to bring forth adequate amounts of supplies during the winter months. Still, the siege drags on. It is in the height of this winter that Hiroto is approached with an offer from the Jizuru Daimyo. He will submit to the Shogun’s authority on the condition he remains in power, and only a fourth of his province’s bounty is taxed each season.

Konigreich Arktis-Münzenberg

Two kingdoms become one! The nation looks on with great anticipation - and fear, as war breaks out just beyond the border!

United Communes of Arnau

As the Black Army begins to march south into Sudveld, reports soon arrive of the arrival of an army from the Freeholder’s Republic. Apparently the bushmen do not consider the war to be over quite yet, and the force responsible for Arnau’s disaster at Jamesvale has the crossed the border into lands held by the Communes!

Good luck.

The Vogelist message begins to spread across all of the former Confederacy, though it is viciously stamped out and persecuted throughout most of it. With such popularity, many of the common folk flock to join the revolution! (+15,000 green medium infantry)

 Konigreich Zunderland

The force dispatched to the outlying regions to the west (C2) is repulsed by a sizable Church presence in the area. Apparently the expedition is undertaking a number of excavations of Outsider ruins.

Klandestan does not respond to the Zunderlands offer of diplomatic channels.

A sophisticated device capable of instantly delivering “messages” will be available to the Zunderlandische by the Spring of 3252, assuming they continue to financially invest in the project.

Sugondasigrad

Absolutely nothing happens in the tsar’s lands as a harsh winter settles over the plains.

Reports arrive, the Church remains active in the region they were previously discovered in, proselytizing to the masses and establishing a small “church” which more closely resembles a fort as they do.

Westmark Republic

The faithful rejoice as the Church is formally recognized as the sole religious authority within the Republic. By mid winter, Priests and Clerics have already begun to arrive in the hundreds, spreading the good word to the masses! Less notably, areas in which Church presence is high sees a sharp decline in accursed populations. Praise the Outsiders!

Kawahara Shogunate

The last remnants of ungoverned lands in the north are claimed for the Shogun.

The search parties discover an Outsider facility of steel and rock deep within the mountains. Its purpose is unknown, and the entrances to the facility all appear to be guarded by a varying number of Thinking metal soldiers, all of which bear a “B” insignia.

The Coomerwealth

And so a Coalition is formed, and war erupts with Kempennen! As the continent heats up and armies are mustered, the Commonwealth receives word that the ever fat and wealthy Oligarchs of Iurd have mobilized both their fleet and army, entering the conflict on Kempennen’s side.

Königreich Arktis-Münzenberg

For love of King, and country.

With the powder keg of the Broken coast going off, it is of utmost importance to protect the Kingdom, and to deter any who would try to do harm to it. Another star fortress is being constructed on the Munzenberg side of the bridge with Iurd. Reinhardt is taking no chances in the game called trust. Those laborers and engineers are put back to work once more, and paid rather handsomely for their efforts in fact. Stones, mortar, and other necessary building materials are hauled off from stockpiles and brought to this location. From across the bridge, surely the Iurd fortress is aware of the activities happening on the other side. Regardless, the King required another defensive structure, and those workers have answered the calling every time. For love of King, and country. The foundries on the other hand make short work of the order that is given to them this season. Workers come into the foundry clean and ready to work, but leave tired and covered in soot. Without them, truly there would be no organized army production, and for their hard work Reinhardt formally recognizes their efforts by sending gifts of food, medication, and other trinkets to their families. More cannons rolled out of the workshops, along with another divisions' worth of muskets and infantry equipment. Once more, another queue is put into place for next season, and much like the last few, it is large.

Actions:

20 light cannons roll out of the foundries. (15 AP, 13750 C, 5 S)

5,000 Medium line infantry join the 2nd Munzenbergian Korp after their training is complete. (10 Ap, 6250 C, 10 S)

A star fort is constructed. (8 M, 15,000C.)

Patrols all along the borders intensified, more so on the Westmark border though. Any clergymen are caught and sent back to Westmark. The normal ask, tell, make policy is put into place. Any unwanted forces entering the Kingdom are asked to turn back, and then told to turn back, before being made to turn back. Religious extremism will not be tolerated by the King and Queen.

Artkis-Munzenberg has made its public stance clear with erupting tensions all around, the Kingdom will stay neutral for the time being, and foreseeable future, unless provoked.

With locamotives research being complete, resources are now shifted towards a faster communications system (Telegram).

On the north plains, soldiers parade and celebrate a final end to the Church’s influence in their area. The enemy fought to the last - impressive and just as well, for it spared Soglasigrad’s officers the trouble of deciding what should be done with the hated zealots. The tsar is merciful...no doubt they would have been spared, but few would have been happy about it.

To celebrate in the nearby city of Novomsk, Lt. General Belov organizes a performance of Tchadvosky’s popular masterpiece in service to the tsar, volunteering his own 12 pounders for the effort. Many officers attend in the midst of their march south, eager off the first bit of action in years. The spring campaign has been a short one with little resistance - but symbolically, its importance cannot be overstated.

If the regent is concerned over Westerveld forces near the border, he shows no sign of it. The tsar has laid claim to the empty lands east of Soglasigrad, and not even the gods can change that. THE UNION OF THE VISTULA

THE UNITED COMMUNES OF ARNAU HAS BEEN REORGANIZED INTO THE FIRST UNION OF VISTULA, FOR A SAFE AND SECURE SOCIETY

“ANGRIFF!”

The shouts rang out along the battlefield as masses of infantry collided into each other with bayonets drawn. General Steiner had already known his victory was imminent before the bayonets were even displayed - his gamble on a heavy handed flank had pulled off as his elite infantry crushed through Sudveldische’s own.

Now, from atop of his elevation, Steiner gazes on as his cavalry dashes out from the nearby woodlands, cutting down panicked enemy soldiery - his mind already far ahead from this petty squabble before him. The Freehold had gone for the Revolution’s throat as the civil war raged, he would need everything at his disposal to throw off this Bushling’s advance into his homeland. No further time could be wasted on these insurrectionists - the Freehold, devoid of any righteous moral compass, would no doubt lay waste to the entirety of Arnau if left unchecked. The Fatherland had to be defended at all cost - is what the General thought to himself, as if trying to psyche himself up to task, with the loss he incurred at Jamesvale still fresh in his mind.

“Sir?”

He wasn’t entirely convinced, even now in this victory of his, that he had the capabilities to defeat the Freehold. Outnumbered and quite particularly outgunned, his fortune certainly appeared to bore no good tidings for the Revolution. The fight would have to be won unconventionally, or perhaps it was the Freehold themselves that were fighting uncoventionally already, having departed from their natural habitat and stepped onto Arnau’s own speciality.

“Sir?”

The voice finally shook Steiner free from his thoughts. The General turned to his right, a brow raised as he faced his aide-de-camp, nodding in acknowledgment of the man’s presence.

“Sudveld’s right has broken rank and fled, sir.” The young officer continued, pointing out to the regiments in the distance that had begun breaking apart and fleeing in disorder.

“Ah, very well - call off the attack. We’ll need these lads, no matter how astray they are, to assist the Revolution in our fight against the invaders. Service for immunity, you see? They’re still our countrymen afterall. Send the reserves into the City now, on the double - issue the terms of surrender and we can finally turn our attention to more impending matters.”

“Yes, sir, right away, sir.”

A long sigh blows a cloud of air in the cold afternoon as the General reigns his horse away from the field of battle, on to continue another gruesome and tiring day of battle.

“Here’s to hoping for peace one day.”

Friederich Vogel

‘Father of the Revolution’

Friederich Vogel, the world’s most forward thinking philosophic egalitarian, and a noted humanist. Founder of the new popular ideology, Communism (commonly, Vogelism), Friederich has long advocated for the dismantling of social hierarchies in which all are given an equal right to success - rather than having power accumulate in the few through inherited means. Having begun his academic studies in Westerveld, the concepts of classical liberalism were instilled in the young Vogel in this foreign country, who would later bring back these ideals to his academic circles in the Confederation of Mitteland - to be developed upon by his fellow like minded peers, such as Hans Lufta, and Huge Frazer. For the next few decades, Vogel would eventually manifest the culmination of his studies into a profound declaration, a Vogelist Manifesto, in which he details a better world for all, how to fulfill such, and the consequences of this communist ideology. It would gain minor traction throughout the universities of Mitteland, and disparaged but no further than a simple talking piece - the undisturbed insular nature of the Confederation causing no need for any general disturbance in the masses for the subsequent decades.

So as things festered, Vogel dedicated himself to his works as an author, further propagating his various thoughts and concepts. As a man of letters, Vogel has published many works which have been elevated to high fame; ‘the 12 Theses on Society’, ‘the Vogelist Manifesto’, ‘the Reichisch Identity’ and ‘Poverty under Communism’. These texts have been largely responsible for further helping spur on deviancy within academic circles of the Broken Coast, and perhaps beyond, which has slowly permeated throughout the lower classes of society, eventually culminating in the Revolution of 3250.

Following the stalemate of 3250, more commonly known as the Fool’s War, revolutionist tendencies flared up throughout the Confederation, as more and more turned to Vogel’s ideology in replacement of a continuously ailing, ineffective, ruling government - and on the eve of the disaster at Jamesvale, Friederich finally struck the torch of Revolution, commencing major uprisings in retaliation to poor government policies throughout the Confederation. These efforts in Arnau were doubled in intensity, as its populace raged on for the loss of their native 1st Division, executed on-mass by the Freehold following their surrender in the Bush. Representatives of the Confederation were defenestrated, drawn and quartered, or lined up against walls to be shot to death - these brutal revolts had far exceeded even Vogel’s own expectations, rendering him temporarily unable to cohesively organize the Revolution as more and more violent ideologies fractured apart, chief of which being Frazerites, a group of anarchists.

Following the initial defeats of the Revolution in Sudveld and Suden, Friederich had come together with the Communes of Arnau to consolidate a new provisional government till the Revolution fully succeeded in reclaiming the Confederation - the Supreme Council of Communes had been formed, but had already been neutered by Friederich’s overwhelming popularity. The Vogelist Association was given free reign over the Communes, propagating the ideals of their mentor to all.

Defenders of the Revolution would eventually gather under the banners of the Black Guards, or Black Army, dubbed after the dark color of the uniforms of the Revolutionary Freikorp - and as the Principality and Junta waged war in the north, Friederich had directed the troops south to Sudveld, to finally squash what was seen to be an insurrection. But the Freehold would intervene, splitting apart the Revolution, and trapping Vogel in Arnau as it lay under siege.

Verse 1:

Stand up! the soul of the proletarian

Workers, let's get together at last.

Stand up! the damned of the earth!

Stand up! the convicts of hunger!

To overcome misery and shadow

Slave crowd, stand up! stand up!

We are the right, we are the number:

We who were nothing, let us be everything:

Chorus:

This is the final struggle

Let's group together and tomorrow

The International

Will be the human race

The Battle of Sudveld, 3251

ACTIONS OF THE UNITED COMMUNES OF ARNAU

As the Mittelandische refugee crisis continues into the new year, many more Vogelist sympathizers are embedded within these destitute exiles. The objective remains the same, to further the cause and to network more like-minded individuals to support the Revolution - by monetary means, or volunteers. Underground societies form in whichever countries most accepting of refugees, if any, chief of which being Westerveld so far, where major blackmarket transactions deals remain continuous. [Expanding underground commie networks throughout the universe]

The Vogelist Model spreads to Sudveld following its capitulation, wherein, its previously suppressed communist supporters are now free to hold their political rallies and parades. Vogelist newspapers prop up on every corner, with groups of propaganda speakers blasting out the latest developments in the war efforts with their megaphones. What were underground unions of workers, now burst into the public as they drastically alter the culture, rights and legalities of all workers, in their implementation of the Vogelist Model, while Vogelist Militias began to reform in order to support the Black Army’s northward advance. [Asserting Vogelist rule and order over Sudveld]

As the Revolution enters a state of total war with its invading neighbors, new radical policies are forwarded by the Supreme Council. The Women’s Brigade has been established; composed of an all-female task-force of combatants and logistical supporters, the objective of such a new organization is to hopefully alleviate the pain and struggle felt by the regular infantry as they thwart off these foreign invaders. These women are trained for war just like any other, and are expected to go the extra mile to prove their worth as they strive for the same constitutional representation as their male counterparts. [Enlisting women into the Black Army]

The Revolution commits to the same mobilization efforts carried out in Arnau last year, now this time in Sudveld. An emergency conscription edict has been issued to gather new soldiers, regardless of if they can be outfitted with standard equipment - both women and men are equally pressed into service, leaving the rest behind to maintain the economy. The Edict works to drag out the recently incorporated citizenry who may maintain discontent towards the Vogelist Regime, rather than allowing them free-time to organize unrest in Sudveld. Soldiers of the recently defeated Sudveldsiche army that retired from service following their undertaking of new oaths are specifically excluded from the Edict. [Emergency Conscription Edict issued in Sudveld]

Operation Firestorm is underway.

A flurry of hastily assembled PEACEFUL diplomats are sent across the newly established border with Westerveld. Presumably stopped by border guards, they address themselves as representatives of the United Communes of the Vistula, and urgently request a line of communications with whichever authority is tasked with foreign affairs. [Sending diplomats to Westerveld | Discord]

The Foundries in Arnau pump out a battery of artillery at top speed as the Freehold closes around it. [4,000v, 4AP, 2S]

A Regiment of the most zealous revolutionaries are assembled from both Arnau and Sudveld, leading to the formation of a new Black Guard (Foreign Corp) unit. [1,000v, 2AP, 2S]

Blackmarket trading 2 units of gunpowder for 1,000 each.

8 units of Revolutionaries are trained up to Regular standards [2,000v]

Westmark Republic

mz5g2Uw.png

Lead and Blood filled the streets of Mittelhiem, where Royalists and Militarists once fought the Westmarkische Army had overcome the Royalists and had taken the city with minor losses. The would-be dictator known as General Klein had sent a message to General Maisel demanding he leave the city at once and surrender the Royalist prisoners or face invasion beyond the Vistula River.

This was an overt threat that Maisel didn’t take well, rather than waste time with a proper and formal response the Exiled Soldiers and Mercenaries under Klein found themselves in a contested battle with republik soldiers. Street to street, factory to factory they fought. Westmark’s soldiers were well trained and were fresh and ready for conflict compared to Klein’s forces that had been battling Royalists and battling a siege.

The exiled soldiers were caught off-guard by the aggressive and hardened resolve of Westmark and were not only driven from the city but forced to abandon their siege and retreat back west to lick their wounds.

As they marched westward in shame and humiliation they could hear the shouts of the triumphant westmarkische soldiers.

“Für die Republik!”

“Für die Republik!”

“Für die Republik!”

---ACTIONS---

Having secured Mittelhiem from the Royalist and fended off the assault of the would be dictator Klein. The Westmark Republik invests in the defense of their German brothers and sisters. A massive defensive project is put forth as a Polygonal Fort is constructed at Mittelhiem. (-30,000v, -12M)

With the offset of major conflicts across the Eastern Continent and an unsure future with the continued civil war within Mittelland the Republik focuses its efforts on putting bodies on the field rather than specialized or fully trained forces for the time being. 15,000 Conscript Regulars are brought into service. (-1,500v, -15MP)

Diplomats are sent in an attempt to open dialogue with the Freeholder Republic. (MITH)

-Following the obliteration of church forces in C5, most of 2nd Corps is sent to secure the mountain pass into the wastelands to the west in A7. Knowing the predicted difficulty of the project, they establish a line of small outposts along the way, each garrisoned with a detachment of men to secure the area.

The Rovfagel flies above and ahead, coordinating with the light cavalry as they secure the region before the infantry. Once the open lands have been secured, the forces will begin to move back towards the mountains and secure those. They all remain alert, weary of this forsaken land beyond the mountains, where things ancient and alien stir and old wives tales speak of a dark and dangerous people beneath the earth...

-The Königreich Zunderland and the Vrena Principality sign the Toleyran-Gründwent Agreement, stipulating that the Königreich shall gain possession of the province labelled as C2, in return for certain concessions. Namely, researchers from the University are to retrieve any relics found within the hands of the Church, or in ruins within that land once it has been secured.
