LightTheTrainer 464 Share Posted June 8, 2022 THE PONTIFICAL ELECTION OF 1876 The Cardinals gather for the coming election. C. 429 E.S. Within sat five men - the College of Cardinals, speaking of the next era of the Church. Sat around the large, oaken table was Melquiades Cardinal Providentia, Klaus Cardinal Jorenus, Adrian Cardinal Albarosa, Armand Cardinal Allobrogum, and, at the head of the table, Jordan Cardinal Nescia. A simple, hastily constructed box sat before the small priest. Within would sit the votes that elected the next High Pontiff. Thus rose the Cardinal Nescia, quickly uttering a prayer of prior design: "Heavenly Creator, walk with us as our mediator and judge to endow us with a sound mind and contrite heart in the election of the next Pontiff. Grant, we pray, that by your infinite wisdom and omnipotence that whomever is chosen shall reflect your mercy, compassion, strength, and duty in the exercising of this great Holy Office. This we ask in prayer, in the name of all Aenguls, all saints, and of the universal church, Amin.” A Hussariyan cross was then drawn across the cleric’s chest, and with a brisk nod, did the time for voting begin.
