The New World and You: A Teaser

I still say fresh start, new beginnings, same characters. The people who are rich now have the experience, and knowledge that they used to get rich in the first place, they can do it again, and new players are the same no matter what happens, with kits though they get a bit of a start (( even if the kit has food or something )) What ever happens happens, but I honestly wouldn't like the idea of the rich people being able to buy up all the choice plots of land in the new world (( it's hard enough getting nice land in the current world ))

This is far from the Rp arguments that others have made.

You keep your character, but magically your money and wealth disappears, yeah that's great RP.

I think it's time everyone dropped the issue of what items/minas to keep or not keep. Both sides have firmly made their point, and I don't want a flame war. The decision will be/has been made regardless of further comments.

I have to say that, sandonthefloor: just because he didnt state why they were removed doesnt mean there wouldnt be a reason? You have to have more faith in people than that.

See the world from all angles and things'll be sweeter.

...

The new world is very different from aegis, there will be more protected areas all over the continent so that key land plots wont be built upon without a proper village application

Some biomes will be buildable and others wont.

...

One of the problems I have seen is if an area is protected by a Region. Lets say it is called REGION_A. And REGION_B is created that within REGION_A, then either:

  • REGION_A and REGION_B must be related (Parent or Child), or
  • Authorized users must have PERMS to both REGION_A and REGION_B

Perhaps the illustration below will help me ask this question:

If Jack has PERMS to REGION_A and Jill has PERMS to REGION_B, is there any way for

Jack to NOT have PERMS to REGION_B and Jill NOT to have PERMS to REGION_A at the same time?

Region_Illustration.png

The reason I ask this is because, as the Viceroy of Alras and me being a VIP200, I would like my plot of land to be an Estate within Alras territory.

But, I do not want everyone with PERMS to Alras having PERMS to my estate and I don't want my estate employees to have PERMS to all of Alras.

If it is not possible, that is an acceptable answer, I was just curious?

Also, on the subject of the new world. Is there any way we can either find another Shop Mod or modify the one we have so that shop Minas are attached to the shop, not your personal account? I mean if you have a shop, or multiple shops you would need to deposit minas into that shop with which to buy things with and you would have to visit the shop to withdraw any profits. When the shop minas run out of it's shop account, the shop can no longer buy stuff. This would allow for a couple of important things: [1] It would allow shop owners to determine profitability of a shop (which is almost impossible now); and [2] It would create an RP reason to actually visit your shops from time to time to look at the "Books" and deposit more funds or withdraw your profits.

Basically, it would require one more data column in the Shop DB for Funds, and three more shop commands:

  • /shop account balance - this will display the balance of funds of the shop you are standing in.
  • /shop account deposit X - this would take money out of your personal account and add it to the funds of the shop you are standing in.
  • /shop account withdraw X - this would take money out of the funds of the shop you are standing in and add them to your personal account.

If you are looking into other shop systems, please consider this in your evaluation of them.

@ gropier, the owner of region B would not have permissions in region A.

However, region A will always have perms to region B, unless there is some secret to the "priority" command that I don't know.

Could always just lwc the doors, then no one could get inside ;p

That is if you set REGION_A as the parent of REGION_B right? If not, You would need to be a member of both to access Region B. Correct?

I am looking forward to the new world but a few questions have popped into my head, My Knight order (( Knights of the North )) wish to of course claim land in the North in the new world (( far away but semi gettable to so we still get recruits and RP interactions )) I'll be a bedrock by monday most likely and we have a few bedrock donators, is it possible to claim a few large chunks of land? (( kind of use our bedrock levels to claim land plots besides each other to make a fairly large region for ourselves? )) of course we don't intend to use all of our VIP plots in one area and will most likely make outposts in other places like a recruitment office or something, (( depending on the size of bedrock VIP plots ))

Also if we want to make a small village (( keep with walls surrounded by a small village and another set of walls with homes for our laborers miners, farmers, ect )) will that require that we apply for a village/city dealio thing? (( we're not thinking major city but a small town with shops for our civilians to sell excess goods from their professions, and land for them to farm whilst our walled keep within the village remains strictly military. ))

I feel that even thou there might be the possibility to migrate to the new world, we all should leave our possessions and skills behind. Why should anyone have an advantage over each other when we are supposed to start over with a new world. Minas - of course those who have paid for VIP ( that gives them free minas) should keep that amount, but nothing more and no one else. Since those minas only will be worth something when the world evolves and its good to get shops started and useful much faster. Even the skills is a way of only focusing on getting it higher and not actually role play before the server wipes!

Tabula rasa would be the only way to get everybody to put the same effort into the new world, and being active for real again.

As for the guilds, if the guilds have to be accepted or only the biggest guilds for now would be able to exist, there would be a great loss for LotC. Half of the role play experience I have had so far is given by smaller guilds trying to survive and gather members, groups of people with the same thinking and moral. Most of the fun is to actually try to make it grow. Think of the our own world; how many different groups of both love but also hate as a source of energy has rised and fallen thru out time?

We need the same feelings when we try to gather people inside LotC too. Of course Im choosing side in this since my own guild has been on for soon 3 weeks with a bunch of people that has been loyal and want to be as long as their character survives.

There might be a good idea to set some kind of regulations for smaller guilds to become one of the "official guilds". and also get inside the lore with their history.

Time existed, numbers of members, purpose and maybe some other criteria should be a good standard to apply for this, it would also bring less work for the ForumMods and Gm's since only these "official guilds" should have the possibility to use there own forum thread.

There will be a lot to do for all responsible of the forum, server, game play and so on, when the wipe is done. And I hope that all players will be able to show respect for those who are heavily committed to this server and spends a lot of hours and days to make this work for the rest of us!

Best regards, Johannes the MoonWalker
