The New World and You: A Teaser

Elindor brings up a great point. Not necessarily about the books in particular, but the fact that in building our characters there are very different things that are important to each one. To some it is the items or property, others the minas, other books & lore, still others reputation, status or position. These core character goals are all equably valuable to different characters. Some of these valuables could be stripped from characters like possessions, property and minas, but others cannot such as reputation, status and lore. To place subjective judgement on any of these character values and weigh one above the other is like telling a player that just because he likes to accumulate property, items, minas or whatever his character concept is less important and less valuable to the server that another character concept who may be more altruistic and enjoys traveling around recounting stories and giving sagely advice. This is wrong and will only end up hurting the server.

As Mog pointed out, the reasons for a new map have nothing to do with the debate over what we should or should not take with us. I say there are only two safe options here:

  1. Wipe the map and let everyone travel to the new world as they are. Or,
    .
  2. Wipe the map and have everyone create new characters and start over (New Game).

Anything in the middle is just going to end up a huge mess and some people will convince Mods to give them things where others will not and it will end up a giant cluster-F. You know it will happen.

Ooh exciting, and now to my argument.

1. Vip's have "donated" their hard earned money for priviliges and for minas, and plots.

Wiping them of the bonuses' they "paid" isnt right. The question then is, how to make it fair to the other players so that they will have an even chance at succes in the new world (more on that in a bit)

2.This server is an RP server, The setting is doomsday, and Below are a few different scenarios.

A-The land of Aegis is dying, So the people of Aegis have to move to a new land. -This is the best choice for player's wishing to keep their items/minas. (although i find it kind of boring)

B- An apocalyptic force is tearing the world in two, forcing people to flee from thier homes. -his means you arent going to bring minas and items and all bunch of stuff with you. only the essentials: Food, Water, maybe a family heirloom or two( this could be a family sword or something slightly valuable but still makes sense in rp)

C-(my favorite option) Armageddon: All out war, whether its all nations against one force or nations versus nations. Anyhow the war has destroyed the land, and with the inclusion of WMD's(cataclysmic magic) the land of Aegis is all but destroyed. -At this point an option will be given, stand and fight or flee with some belongings that you have into another world.

Those that stand and fight will die(permanetly)but they will forever live on in the hearts and minds of the people they fought for. (maybe even those who decided to stay will get a small bonus to their new charecter)

Those that flee, will be able to keep belongings and will be able to keep thier current charecter.

You can make this more interesting and fun by saying that those who flee are dependant on those who stay. For instance if those who stay fight poorly then those fleeing do not have enough time to gather up thier belongings and as such will not be able to transfer as much to the new world.

----End of that thought---

3. Kits

Vips should get better kits than regular player's regardless if that player has been loyal to the server.

But when i say better it should still be in consideration with RP and balance.

So for instance those who did not donate may get some food and an Iron sword or Bow and stack of arrows(dependent on race) But those who have donated will get Both and a full a lump sum of Minas to jump start the economy, aswell as any donator priviliges that they retain and have "purchased"

.[*]Value of the Mina being deflated - There is no material that the mina is backed by, meaning that the Mina is not on the gold standard, the Iron standard, diamond standard or anything. GMs just spawn more minas when needed (usually for good reasons) and there goes inflation. Instead of giving minas as treasure or to VIPs, I think giving items that then must be sold accomplishes the same thing without deflating the value of the Mina.

I think you're using inflation and deflation interchangeably. Deflation is when the value of a Mina increases, like when diamonds go up in price because there arent as many left in the mines. Regenning the mines used to cause regular fluctuations in the value of minas but now there is been a steady deflation with diamonds rising to around 350 mina retail.

Deflation is not generally considered bad for an economy....

When the new map is created there will be a myriad of diamonds and valuable ores hitting the market. This is when we can expect the INFLATION to occur. And I dont know what to do about that except ride it out and enjoy the low prices while they last.

As far as what items are kept after the reset.... If people are allowed to keep one inventory of goods, and their minas, it will appease the majority. Taking everyone's hard work without a SOLID RP reason that nothing can carry over doesnt make sense.

I RP'd for every item and mina that I have in my posession and to take it all away just to level the playing field doesn't make sense. And neither does saying that "people who want to keep their stuff arent here for the right reason (RP)"

I dont know what KH1 and KH2 are (Petyr's post) but usually when a game's sequel comes out you dont get to keep everything. What if in the middle of KH1 they took your epic drops and said "ok, keep playing but start over"

would that make ANY sense at all?

Nope. And all the players on the server (that have enough wealth to be concerned with it) worked hard for their stuff and wouldnt like to see it all discarded because some people think the economy is out of whack.

I think the economy is FINE right now. just wait until the new map chocked full of resources comes out and see what happens.... People bringing over 1 inventory of goods wont make a dent in the inflation that will be caused.

And kits..... just an attempt to "level the playing field" without pissing off your donators. It still doesnt really seem fair.

My Verdict:

Dont take our stuff. We worked hard for it. If I have to lose my 30k minas then syrio should have to lose his 900k minas and johnny come lately should have to lose his 400 minas. Which might make the most impact of all since he'd have the least capacity to replace it.

Ok now that 1.0 is out, is this what we should officially be expecting? And ill just say what I think about all that. Its all good but Im really hoping to see tweaked Landscape generation. Not just a boring MC generated map.

Some random pictures just so you can get an idea

...I wouldn't mind normal generation if that second pic is the result.

That second picture looked awsome indeed! There should be something like that in the Aegis 2.0 map, but it should be protected.

Can't we ask that person to make some landscapes for Aegis 2.0?

Gropier has the right idea, and Mog. Those who have lots of mina (and I mean a lot) and spent months getting it should keep it. Those who need it (like nation leaders) should keep their mina. VIPs get mina.

However, I think there should be a limit on initial property purchases per person or a time where you can't buy any property initially. The reason Lord Richards of the Golden Harvest got rich was because of his plot on the King's Road, right by the Cloud Temple. It's a perfect location and led to him becoming very rich. VIPs and those who get their minas will no doubt buy loads of property, and the best land, because that's more valuable in the long run. That is going to be the largest influence on the new economy; the initial inflation will be nothing in comparison. Once the economy levels out, people are going to start buying houses and stores. And a small handful are going to own them. They sell them and suddenly they are rich.

I think this is something of note, and correct me if you feel my logic is wrong.

Also, we need tighter control on guilds. Even though the Guild page on the forums says to make sure other guilds don't have the same purpose before making your own, I see dozens upon dozens of bandit/undead-slaying guilds, composed of 5 people. Hence, nobody in capital cities, making it boring for us guards. The guilds have divided Aegis greatly and need to be overhauled on the new map.

I agree with tighter control on guilds. Possibly an application system or possibly just the need to be accepted by a GM/FM (or a Guild Application Team? :3)?

That's why I designed my guild like it did, I believe it to contain some very unique characteristics. No bandit slaying/Undead Murdering for me! XD Although it is only in the design phase and I have not yet implimented it as a proper guild as of yet...

My opinion is that we keep our money, not necessarily items as this would be a bit over-the-top. Have a class, similar to those native proposed; where you can choose between a small variety of, say; Woodsman, Warrior, Miner etc.

But the funds are what we have worked on for a long time and is our veritable 'nest egg'. I strongly advocate keeping money as NOT doing so would make many players disgruntled and not want to start all over again.

For example, GamingShadow has over 120k Minas and he, I am sure, would not want to lose all of his effort if it he had a choice.

@Moglet

I read over your post, twice in some spots, and have only two questions for you.

1. You point out that your small sum isn't worth losing for a fresh start, but how do you justify that when others who have FAR more, for example DigginTilDawn, who is in the top five richest on the server, are willing to give up theirs to give newer players a even playing field?

2. You repeatedly state that there is no 'justification' or 'compelling argument'. These are both subjective, as multiple people have given the opinions and reason for wanting a fresh start. Just because you find the opinions unequal to yours does not make yours right.

I would also like to mention that the Kits are intended to help balance this out for new players. Much like a 'Grand Re-Opening ' to a restaurant, we expect (With good reason) many new players with the New World release. Kits give a balanced start to all players, as well they reward those who have donated. Sure, Donators would receive benefits(Arguably advantages), but this is good business in the real world. We need to stay afloat, and donations keep us online. Without them, you wouldn't have your nestegg in the first place.

Thanks for reading,

MrZombez

PS - You stated that there is no compelling argument, however 90% of the people on your side just claim they don't want to lose the time spent. How is that compelling? You can't tell me that doesn't sound lazy.
