Aislin 4354 Share Posted November 22, 2011 By lore we mean, everyone in the world is going to get savaged by snowmen and everyone flees for the new map as their limbs get chewed off (note - this is not actually happening). Fear my brothers.
sandonthefloor 2 Share Posted November 22, 2011 I do hope this comment was not directed towards me. I do believe I may have been misunderstood because the only thing I was insinuating was the opposite of that! I agree with and support pretty much everything you just said. You are one of those who actually DOES STUFF with their money! Like I said: Of course people with large amounts of money do not going around killing monsters as a HUGE risk would be taken if that were to happen. But you RP, people RP on an RP server. It's what people do! And you do it! That is the point I am trying to get across, there is one thing that EVERYONE on this server has in common. No matter how you do it or why, this is why we are here talking on these forums today. The entire reason why I believe minas and items do not matter so much. The entire reason all of us are here in the first place because this is the one common thing that brings us all together. Role Playing. Money is a nice side effect from role playing in certain ways. But Role playing is what drives this server and what makes it go round. Implying Role playing doesn't include or exclude making money. Your focusing on what RP means to you, not what it means as a general consensus to everyone else.
ℓαтєяяє ~ 236 Share Posted November 23, 2011 I say we all start from scratch. We all lose our money and possesions, to start pure.
James Undercroft 129 Share Posted November 23, 2011 Implying Role playing doesn't include or exclude making money. Your focusing on what RP means to you, not what it means as a general consensus to everyone else. And there you are quite right and I apologise. I was not including the number of people who money MEANS roleplay to them (or somewhere along those lines). The people who do actually focus on their money for their roleplay. I was focusing on the my percieved majority of people who money does not mean that much to and I am sorry. Hmm... I find it hard to take a side in an argument purley becuase I can find MANY MANY reasons for both sides of most arguments. But what is done is done and an admins choice has been made, I believe that once it is finished their is no use complaining as chances to be changed are infact minimal. I reccomend people just take it in their stride; those that like it will benefit, those that don't it will be a minor setback. But we all know you can make it through :)
MrZombez 35 Author Share Posted November 23, 2011 To this day I don't understand why no one gets that removing money and items was my preference, not the decision. No decisions like that have been made, solely to avoid confrontation and resentment within the community. When we decide it, you will know. If it happens, we will provide how we would play it out, both RP wise and technically. That's the only way that is fair for everyone.
Moglets 4 Share Posted November 23, 2011 Hi Mr. Zombez I think it came from when Availer posted recently on this thread on this issue and said he didn't get why players criticized "the choices the development team makes". Up until this point, we thought we were debating the pros and cons of whether minas should be affected by the map change. However if the development team has already made their choice, as Availer seems to have implied, then it seemed to read that players were now debating something that had already been decided. But I guess that's neither here nor there. It was already stated that if GMs and staff want to write the script such that people lose their minas, then they can do so. If the story was written differently, it may be possible to hold on to all or some of our minas. Not everything dramatic has to be violent / desperate / cataclysmic (something that quite a few Hollywood film directors would to well to take note of - Michael Bay, I'm looking at you.) We, the player base, do not know which story the staff are going to write, and while we felt we still had some input into the debate, we spent our time giving our opinions on the matter. If the debate is still open, then well and good. I think I've taken enough people's time giving my own views in the past, so I'll leave the space to others ;P Regards, Mog

I know that no decision has been made, but it has seemed to be the common idea that keeps on arising, especially with Petyr. We just want to make sure that our side is heard, so that we will be able to enjoy our playing experience as well.
Casamir 42 Share Posted November 25, 2011 Why do people feel the night to argue about fake virtual money and items? Do you know how many changes to world of warcraft the blizz devs made that pissed me and my IRL friends off? tons upon tons, and ya know what? we've played since launch and continue to do so, why? Cause we love the game and changes are changes boo hoo get over it everything happens for a reason. In game I'm a diamond donator, I'm moderately wealthy, I have my own guild ( have provided a ton of the materials for our keep and to keep our armories stalked myself ) and at first I was like ****, I don't want to lose our inventory ( iron took one hell of a time to stock pile back when I was poor and couldn't dig deep enough to find much iron among other things and ect ect ) But now I would welcome a reset sooooooooo badly, my rp has become stagnant and stale (not because I'm a bad rper and such) but there is only so much a guild can rp about before things get repetitive and boring, at least with a world restart we can work together, gather materials for our new keep, work together to find a piece of land that is "just right" and go about restarting our whole order (with many good and new changes much like the server is doing) Instead of arguing about stuff why not just be supportive? the gm's will do as they please, it is their server after all. Sure they will listen to our complaints but seriously, maybe if everyone was like noooo don't do this then they would say well, maybe we'll change our plans, but as it is a bunch of people are like nooo and a bunch of us are like yeah what ever bring it on. TL:DR, I support what ever the GMs and staff of LOTC want to do, it's their server let them do it, stop fighting change. EDIT: Speaking of wow, I did have to restart my whole character, my friends played on a pvp server and I had started on a pve server, it was half way through burning crusade, my paladin was lvl 66 and blizzard did not offer server changes from pve to pvp or otherwise, and I honestly didn't mind, I was sad yes, I lost many bragging achievements on my old pally like fighting at the black portal and such, but in the end I leveled my second paladin alot faster ( I knew how to do things and got it done with ease ) so if you made a ton of money once, whats stopping you from doing it again? you already know the tricks of the trade and should have no problems jumping back in with out skipping a beat. moondoggy 27 Share Posted November 25, 2011 everything should be given a weight and players can only carry a total of the weight carry able over. diamonds obviously would weigh the most and things like books would weigh the least. minas weigh something too, as they are coins and should be added into the total overall weight. If a player wanted to bring over a stack of diamond blocks, that would be his whole wieght but another player could bring an inventory of stacks of books weighing equal. something simple like this. another player could carry over 50k minas and nothing more. Something like this i feel would be a nice middle ground.
realslimshady 7 Share Posted November 28, 2011 So... since 1.0 is already out and Bukkit and Spout are updated... By the time I'm whitelisted I'll have little or no experience in the current map. Although, the new map sounds fun.
Dry Crackers 268 Share Posted November 29, 2011 It's scary... will the map look similar, like the landmarks and stuff?
Dry Crackers 268 Share Posted November 29, 2011 I can see that there is a divide on those who wish to keep their items, their character and their wealth. Can both wishes not be fullfilled? If one wishes to start as a completely new character, afresh as an inhabitant of the new continent why not let them? They could have access to the new contenient early inorder to establish themselves as the "inhabitants" of the capitals that will be prebuilt before the arrival of those from Aegis. They would have the opportunity to have "first dibs" on homes and such ( but remember they will start with nothing, 0 minas , so they would have to start up the economy (and wouldn't be able to buy every building in sight). Then after X amount of time the people of aegis who wish to retain their items will arrive. The cities will have some people in them so it is not a deserted city they are waltzing into and there will be a player fueled economy already in place. Perhaps there will be some issues with those who have VAST quantities of money just buying all homes/shops in sight which is what I think they are trying to avoid through the option of every one starting afresh. I also thought about perhaps readjusting the way the currency works. A new continent which has never been visited would not use the same currency, I think changing the currency so that once the players enter the new world that their minas do not become worthless but are of less worth in the new land. This may stop the predicted buying up of homes if the people of old Aegis have say 50% less minas. So instead of having 5000 minas they would have 2500 Delar (working title lol). This would certainly reduce the margin of the difference in wealth between the rich and poor and stop the buying of many properties per person. The pros of this are: - A player fueled economy which has had time to develop - Locals who run the ready built cities/nations (non GMs) - Players who give up their minas and items will be rewarded by early access - People who wish to keep their items can but will have to X amount of time before entering the new map - Adds immersion for those who first step into a city to see people already living there instead of it being empty - Event could be coordinated between both servers so as the people of Aegis escape to their ships the new server could have an announcment like "Ships have been spotted on the horizon as dawn breaks" The cons of this are: - Is it even possible? I am not sure how running both worlds at once would go - People who have just joined the server who may not be experienced in RP could jump to the new map with little affect on their wealth - People may meta information about the new map to those not on it yet. - Noble families may complain that in order for them to keep their status and wealth they miss out on becoming King / HighPrince etc. - Rich players may mass buy homes and shops when they arrive with their vast amounts of minas - The players who keep their items would damage the economy by selling diamonds and iron which may not be widely available yet - Players who join the server early may build in the wilds causing the landscape to be marred even before the rest of the server get to experience its beauty As you can see there are good points but also bad ones. I am no master of lore, nor am I attuned in the ways of how the GM's envision this but I hope my opinion is noted and hopefully some of my ideas help them achieve what they have in store for us. that actually makes sense
Dry Crackers 268 Share Posted November 29, 2011 My opinion: What Should Transfer: 1. Minas There is no argument for why Minas should not transfer other than the rich are lazy and such. It would make no sense for them to just disappear in an RP way. The only reason why we would get rid of the minas would be if we didn't bring number 2. 2. Items We need to AT LEAST bring the inventory. For the sake of RP and all the hard work some of the people have put in. If we didnt bring items it would crush the RP. The only reason it works for new people on the server now is that there is an already established system that allows them to get economic gain. If we leveled everyone's items then we would effectively be creating anarchy for the new world. 3. Property Rights Not just buildings in the city but outside plots. Simply put, if you own a region on this world you should effectively get a region of equal value on the new one. 4. Your Character's Personality and Respect Just because we're going to a new world doesn't mean that everyone can be leveled to equality. If we did that it would be like everyone going out to the nearest gang and saying, "Hey you guys, the worlds ending and I want to be friends, lets go to a new place and start a society!" This is another reason why we cant just flatten everyone's minas and items. NO RP. This is just my small worthless opinion though, and im not really any of these people. I have 64 minas left to my name and have one building, its not much but id like to keep it. Very, Very, Very nice. Maybe a tax on the rick so it's more even starting out, and provisions to start new characters without RPing he change in-depth?
Casamir 42 Share Posted December 2, 2011 I still say fresh start, new beginnings, same characters. The people who are rich now have the experience, and knowledge that they used to get rich in the first place, they can do it again, and new players are the same no matter what happens, with kits though they get a bit of a start (( even if the kit has food or something )) What ever happens happens, but I honestly wouldn't like the idea of the rich people being able to buy up all the choice plots of land in the new world (( it's hard enough getting nice land in the current world ))
shiftnative 3103 Share Posted December 2, 2011 there may be a mina limit. as far as properties are concerned : donator plots ofcourse will be refunded. Homes inside nations will be up to the nation leaders. The new world is very different from aegis, there will be more protected areas all over the continent so that key land plots wont be built upon without a proper village application Some biomes will be buildable and others wont. When we release the official map you will know where you can, and can't build
