CHANCELLOR’S REPORT

Despite the turbulent times we find ourselves in, I am glad to see the continued piety of the Haeseni people and their persistence in all matters and manners. I would like to make special mention of the efforts made by the Viscount Carolus Colborn and Lady Amaya Colborn, both of whom have played enormous roles in the revitalisation of the tavern and the general liveliness we are experiencing in Karosgrad at present. We have seen a consistent uptick in activity throughout the realm in no small part to the efforts of the Aulic Council and welcoming individuals within our honourable and noble society.

 

In other news, His Majesty has selected Firr Otto Gant and Ser Vladimir var Ruthern to serve as the Lord Emissar and Knight Paramount respectively. I congratulate both but understand they have a difficult job ahead of them as both similarly have to bring more interest to their offices and orders as well as lay foundations and changes so that they continue to grow and stay steady beyond them. I encourage any with chivalric honour and a good heart to seek out Ser Vlad and help him build back up the knightly orders and similarly those who can display great diplomacy should seek out His Excellency Firr Otto for work in the Office of the Emissary. Haense is rife with opportunities of work, make use of it.

 

While the internal goes well and progresses with bright changes on the horizon, not all is positive and indeed we have been forced to look outward to the turmoil that is the Heartlands. The heinous Heinrik Sarkozic, false Duke of Adria, has been excommunicated and the true Canonists have been called to enact justice against an immoral and unrepentant sinner who threatens the entirety of humanity. Not since the days of the Sinners’ War have we seen all humanity so united against a common foe and let that be the silver lining to these raging storm clouds that loom overhead. Let no Canonist soul be misled or confused, Heinrik Sarkozic has led his supporters astray and damned their souls for not obeying the command of the Vicar of God and thus defying the will of God Himself. We will find a way to return peace to all of Canondom and deal with the great tyrant and sinner of our time. I remind all the Haeseni of our most famous phrase and keep it in mind in the testing times to come, ea byk zwe zanyotskyr zweer ea ter petravezker: I would have perished had I not persisted. 

 

God is good and may He bless his Royal Majesty, King Georg and the Kingdom of Hanseti-Ruska and its peoples.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS

 

-THE CANONIST LEAGUE-

 

Following his refusal for penance and righteous judgement, the initiation of blood shedding in a most holy place and his continued rule in defiance of the will of God, Heinrik Sarkozic is a threat to all humankind and one any true and good Canonist should seek to displace from any semblance of power. As such and at the behest of His Holiness and indeed their own morals, the Kingdom of Aaun, the Kingdom of Balian, the Kingdom of Hanseti-Ruska and the Commonwealth of Petra have joined together in a holy league to oppose the anathematised false Duke and Duchy of Adria. All have agreed to enter into a full military alliance together, mutual defence against any hostile actions taken by the excommunicated Duke, and a renegotiation on the League and the terms thereof once Heinrik Sarkozic has been destroyed. God bless the Canonist League.

-ECCLESIASTICAL TRIAL OF HEINRIK SARKOZIC-

 

His Holiness Pontian IV summoned the anathematised Heinrik Sarkozic for an ecclesiastical trial in the Holy See following the armistice between the Kingdom of Aaun and the false Duchy of Adria. Taking place in Karosgrad, the tribunal composed of clergymen, including myself, gathered and decided on the penance the false Duke should have had to commit to should he wish to have saved his immortal soul and be unexcommunicated. For his many heinous crimes both against Man, Church and God and his unwillingness to admit any wrongdoing, Duke Heinrik was assigned the most extreme but befitting penance, to hand himself over for his execution and allow a lawful election over the Duchy of Adria, free from heretics. Refusing, he escaped with the help of the false Adrians within the Basilica of Saint Henrik who drew arms on everyone inside. He remains estranged from God and his supporters likewise are damned unless they correct their sinful course.

-THE TURTLESHELL PACT-

 

A non-aggression pact between the Kingdom of Hanseti-Ruska and the Kingdom of the Barrowlands has been signed. Both have agreed not to attack one another as well as mutual defence against any and all darkspawn and a free tax stall in each other’s countries. This is surely the start to a prosperous future as friends.

-A POLAR CONCURRENCE-

 

Having committed a series of crimes, both against the laws of man and against the Canon, the Duke Heinrik Sarkozic of Adria was excommunicated and begged to submit himself to the Church so that he may receive penance and no Canonist blood shed. He has refused. It is the job of every true Canonist to overthrow this anathema Duke or at least flee from his lands if failing to depose him.

 

Appropriately, our Majesty King Georg signed a pact alongside the King of Balian, Alexander I, and the Archduchess of Petra, Renilde I. The aim of this pact, named the Polar Concurrence, was to oppose the anathema state that would rise if the false Adrians defeated the men of Aaun in their revolt. It also condemned the Duke Heinrik himself for his most unholy lifestyle and beseeched him to save his immortal soul to no avail. This has led directly into the formation of the Canonist League.

-WRIT OF AVOIDANCE-

 

A writ banning any Haeseni citizen from travelling to the Duchy of Adria, supporting the excommunicated Duke Heinrik Sarkozic, or from fighting on his behalf or else they are to be found guilty of treason and crimes against the unity of the Church. This will remain enforced until such a time as the anathema is deposed, killed or submitted for penance.

-EDICT OF THE LILY GARDEN-

 

With the former Order of Merit, the Order of Queen Maya and the Lily, being defunct for a number of decades and problematic in its unbalanced and often arbitrary ranking of our most loyal citizens’ achievements. Thus the Crown has seen fit to establish new Royal Orders of Merit, contained within three chapters: The Robertine Order of Merit, the Wailer Order of Arts, and the Walton Order of the Unyielding. For overall merit and contribution to the Kingdom, for development of the Haeseni arts and/or history keeping, and for notable service through the military and the like respectively.

-THE DRUNKEN MARIAN TAVERN & INN OPENING-

 

Following the unfortunate passing of the Viscountess Ada Colborn and the subsequent stagnation of the Goat’s Lookout Tavern without proper oversight. Thus I have taken it upon myself to become the proprietor of the tavern on the Karovic Square and renovate it into a more rustic and thematically Haense tavern, as opposed to the more Heartlander approach that we’d seen before. Renamed to the Drunken Marian Tavern & Inn, it also now hosts three rooms upstairs subsidised by the office of the Palatine for the purpose of housing new citizens free of charge for a period of time until they find their footing in the Royal City of Karosgrad. The new tavern has proven to be a roaring success and we pray it continues to offer warmth and good company to any passersby. Any persons looking for a job or temporary housing are encouraged to seek out myself for work in the Drunken Marian.

 

In the coming year there will be the first official Drinking Competition, with both monetary prizes and for first place an exclusive item reserved only for the most impressive drinkers and royalty. There will also be a competition between the noble houses of Haense who are encouraged to show off their lands’ specialty alcoholic offerings. This will be held in the months after the inaugural drinking competition. If you wish to help with either, do not hesitate to send a bird.

-THE LEADER OF CHIVALRY-

 

Ser Conrad ‘the Bulwark’ Barclay has approached the age of retirement and after a long tenure on the Aulic Council, serving both King Karl III and King Georg, will no longer be serving as Knight Paramount. We wish him luck and happy tidings in his future endeavours. Ser Vladimir ‘Hothand’ Ruthern has been selected as his replacement, to serve as the twentieth Knight Paramount and we hope he can inspire and promote a resurgence in the ranks of the Knightly Orders.

-APPOINTMENT OF A DEPUTY-

 

With my Deputy Palatine Otto Gant being appointed as the Lord Emissar on the Aulic Council, a replacement is needed and one has been found. With an already proven stellar work ethic and helpful attitude, the Honourable Carolus Colborn @Seuss petitioned and was selected as the new Deputy Palatine of the Realm. We eagerly await the good work surely to come.

 

-THE FAIR FIGHT EDICT-

 

An edict penned and authorised in 470 E.S. by the Lord Palatine in accordance with the wishes of the Crown to enact necessary changes to ‘Duelling’ under the Law of the People. Abuse of the current wording and system has led to a warped reality of duelling versus the desired intention, it is used as a tool to humiliate someone unfairly and alternatively it has given rise to the repeated slander and levying of unsubstantiated claims against people or families without fear of repercussion. No longer - duels to settle disputes will now be enforced and sanctioned by the Crown and Jovenaars.

-THE KEEP CALM AND CARRION BILL-

Presented by Representative Lord Felix Weiss on behalf of his son, the Viscount Audo Weiss, in 469 E.S. during the sitting of His Majesty’s Royal Duma. On account of the unparalleled productivity and prosperity of the Kingdom as a result of the Golden Age started in the reign of King Sigismund III and continued through his successors’ reigns to present day, it has passed unanimously that the government, whilst in ownership of the main square tavern, shall offer a free ration of one mug of Carrion Black per day to citizens.

-THE AULIC COURT REFORM-

 

Chief Jovenaar Arthur Stafyr has began his tenure with a most useful guide to the inner workings and policies of the Aulic Court, defined himself as a means of explaining “the function of the judiciary, formally establishing judicial procedure, documenting the Jorenic legal traditions, and creating a comprehensive anthology of legal resources.” Most usefully it also contains the new trial procedures devised by himself and Jovenaar Haus Weiss. Those with an interest or perhaps indeed people awaiting a trial are encouraged to read over the new changes and amendments to the functioning and policies of the Aulic Court.

-THE FUTURE OF HAESENI DIPLOMACY-

 

After serving in the Office of the Envoy for nearly a decade, Lady Ophelie did resign with respect but left behind an office needing built back up. Our long time serving Deputy, Firr Otto Gant, having proven his competency ten times over makes for a worthy replacement and in his first act has reformed the Office of the Envoy into the Ministry of the Emissar to be headed by the Lord Emissar, formerly known as the Aulic Envoy.

Following a productive tenure, Lord Marshal Felix Weiss, resigned with the permission of the Crown to focus on his growing family and noble house. We are most appreciative of the results his time in office yielded and his vision of the Brotherhood he helped enact. Appointed after him is Firr Sebastian Bishop, now the 23rd Lord Marshal of our realm. Thus far he has been doing good work and keeping up a suitable number of recruits and Brotherhood members. We wish him the best with the rest of his tenure.

-PASSING OF THE HYSPIAN HEIRESS-

It is most sad news that comes from the Crown of Hyspia that the Crown Princess Esperanza de Pelear has passed away at the age of 7 in 471 E.S. after having gone missing and discovered dead some time later. I offer my most deep condolences to the Princess’ family and friends and pray that her soul has made its way safely to the Skies.

Word from the Duchy of Vidaus has confirmed that the heiress to the Duchy of Vidaus, Lady Elizaveta Ruthern, has passed away at the tender age of 16 in 470 E.S. of persistent ill health. Our prayers rest with her in hopes she makes it safely to the Skies and with her family. A life so tragically cut short but now she rests in peace but it is a fate no parent or sibling should suffer.

In rather less sombre news, the heir to the Viscounty of Novkursain has been born followed a moment later by his twin brother. Most unusually the younger arrived into this world glowing, tests determined it was not caused by any known dark magic or such and thus we pray and staunchly hope that it is a blessing from God. Both children, Walter León Weiss and Stanislaw Julian Weiss, were baptised in the name of God by myself. We eagerly await the bright future of both the noble children.

The Viscount Baldrum Colborn has been stalwart in his leadership of his most noble house since the unfortunate and untimely passing of his cousin, the previous Viscountess Lady Ada. Claiming that he feels the house could be better led by another, the Honourable Lord Baldrum has abdicated to his second cousin Lord Carolus Colborn, making him the 4th Viscount of Venzia.

Word and writ from the House of Godunov has confirmed that the Baron of Verskaya and former Lord Marshal Sviatoslav Godunov has passed away at the age of 43 in 467 E.S. of a persistent illness that had plagued him for the last near decade. We join the Barony of Verskaya in the mourning of their loss and encourage all to pray for the late Baron’s soul. Lord Sviatoslav’s eldest child, Lady Alyona Rhetta Godunov, has thus become the 2nd Baroness of Verskaya with a regent in place until she is of age to lead by herself.
