I've not played on the server seriously in quite some time, but I feel as though the thoughts expressed in this article are surprisingly interlaced with my own. I feel like Roleplay hasn't been the priority in a long time, and I often return to the server trying to write good stories only to be roped into Wars or interactions that are fueled based on OOC politics or just generally people's OOC dispositions towards how we should interact with the world. It's in large part due to this that I end up leaving on Hiatus so often, as I feel like my character isn't able to grow when everyone's narrative is already pre-written.

This is definitely a step in the right direction. I would welcome any changes focused on making things more about Roleplay. I miss the days when Diplomacy was real, I miss even older when I would roleplay supply routes for wars, for creating forward camps and making sure our food stocks were high by roleplaying with citizenry to provide more farm stock. There's so much ripe Roleplay to be had that we're squandering. I can't wait to see what comes of this!

I hope that some of these updated rules include harsher punishments for issues such as power & metagaming. Bad faith rp is prevalent at times in part because the consequences rarely seem to be severe. To spend the time putting a report together only for them to get a slap on the wrist is almost worse then them not getting punished at all.

Thank you, Squak. I look forward to seeing the changes too! In the end, I just want to roleplay like any other. It's starting to get silly watching all the NLS scheming in the background, getting into staff only to help their groups, or other stuff to mess with people(consequently ruining their enjoyment of roleplay and the server) and so on.

Like Minecraft roleplay. That's all there is to it. People need to calm down a little. But yeah, great post!

I am a new player to the server. And I can see a glaring issue there is no point in fighting or having conflict with other nations. As there is no gain that is noticeable outside of land. I feel like if the server had a bigger resource issue it would allow nation leaders to stimulate themselves and their nation more with needing to make strategic alliances and resource pacts with other nations. Driving more interaction and self stimulating rp to other nations and their leaders.

I'm a rather new NL to all of this, though I thank the admin team for listening to me and discussing. Ever since I taken over NL of this mess called Lurin, The change was very blatant for me, from time to time ooc stuff to basically everyday there was something OOC. The push back to roleplay and in game activites is amazing for me.

On a entire different topic, please replace Amethyst I beg. Make a Resource island item.

Deferring to RP over Discord diplomacy places you in a direct disadvantage over competitors engaging in metaplay. I’m all for the influence of OOC being swept away, but any rules that want to do that will actively need to incentivise RP interactions - probably by punishing people who engage in Discord diplomacy far more harshly than is done now.

An excellent proposal that will go a long way to fix many of the server’s systemic issues regarding the degradation of roleplay dynamicism. Though I think more needs to be done to remedy this among the average player (public discord regulation / limitation, roleplay first moderation policies, etc), this is a good start to change things at the top. Thank you sincerely for trying to address this problem, Squak.

Exactly that. Very few people actually want discord bullshit, but nobody want to die to discord bullshit so they do discord bullshit as well - it's what most NLs told me... and I understand the attitude. Hence we need strict rules.

An easy solution is to abolish realms and bring back Freebuild :^).

No PRO, no problem!

yes but how will I destroy my ooc minecraft enemies if I can't scheme against them

I agree with most of the sentiments in this post, and think this is probably a good direction for the server to go in at this point.

im not going to write a club-sized paragraph that will beat this dead horse any further than it already has been, but here are my thoughts in a nutshell:

other people are right. if you be the good guy and stick to a strict roleplay only policy as an NL, you are willingly playing with both hands tied behind your back. You cannot reasonably organize a proper response in the time needed when shit hits the fan through a 2/3 hour long council meeting, meanwhilst the other side hammered out everything you just did in a 15 minute phone call.

if you really want to stop it, staff need to start swinging on the leadership of the server. start punishing people for making discord chats, ban ooc plotting, DESTROY discord. Ofcourse, this will effectively force a massive cultural change on the server and make it by far more infuriating to actually organise things on, but it will create the change you seek in that ooc plotting will be cut down.
