This has been a fun project of mine, over the past while. I do thank @Zarsies and @Swgrclaŋ(@Swgrclan) for the feedback and consultation that went into this, it was all much appreciated. The mechanics of these beings were written in a unique way- focusing on extending LotC's combative abilities and niches, with an expenditure system paired with a new form of combat, being monoliths. Should this lore pass the following would occur: Three CAs will be grandfathered in with all rites, and each CA would wield one Morion Vessel, each of a differing subtype.

 

 

ABYSSAL KNIGHTS

THE PSEUDOMORTAL WARLORDS

 

 

ORIGIN

 

Aeons prior to man arriving upon Aevos, before Mori’quessir sweltered through the underdark, before Gazardiel crumpled within the fields of battle- Aegis became a nothingness. The first to perish within this bleakness became known as the Remnant Living, lingering on as practical revenants, accursed with blights of cancer and self-devouring illnesses brought on by the black fog- miasma- that occupies the very air. Those that have lost their minds converge in primal tribes, where they commune together as if animals. Though there were those sparse few that had not succumbed to the madness of their existence. They cherished the stale lifeforce, feasted on the miasma- undead which craved mortality oncemore. 

 

When fell-Aegis first breached back into the mortal realm centuries prior, the Remnant Living warped those mortalkind which sought power in them- flooding their flesh with miasma and scoring within them countless malicious tendencies, the first Resonant Knights were forged, slave-servants to the Remnant. Yet fell-Aegis came and went in waves, and so too did the tide withdraw- bringing the Resonant Knights back within the depths of the Abyss. Millenia have passed since then, as their ranks have festered within, grown bloody and dry beyond all doubt. So they wait, and so they plot- as pseudomortals warped to a pitiful extent. Abyssal Knights, in their truest, most baleful forms.

 

In recent years, the Abyss has pitched into the mortal world oncemore. Mordring’s involvement has surfaced oncemore, leading to the forging of the first Abyssal Gateway from the mortal realms to the depths of Fell-Aegis, connecting the worlds oncemore, the Black Nexus rebuilt by hands of Nephilim. For the first time, Abyssal Knights sealed within the abyss for aeons finally wander the world, without that which binds them. The deific politics of the world ever-shift, and yet what exists is vastly divergent; Xan has perished, Azdromoth ascended- Mordring’s ploys run rampant, as do the machinations of Malkaathe. And so those newfound abyssal wander within the world- as not those who worship nor revere the abyss, yet those who know the cruelty of it, and serve as stalwarts of that past they know.

 

 

COMPATIBILITY

 

There exists within the Abyss remnants of the land that once-was. Pieces that persevere; fragments of cities, homelands, roads. The deserts of Krugmar, the streets of Alk’hazar, the forests of Laurelin, all of these places still remain, though in shambles. They are like decayed corpses, shells and ruins of what they once were whence the sun shined upon them. Within these sullen landmarks linger on the phantoms of the past -- both dead, and undead. The knights are those neither; and they wander. 

 

The flesh morphs, the soul bends. Those of the abyssal ilk lose all [5] of their magic slots in conversion, soul shackled away from those sects. Yet the remainder of their participatory arcanas are feeble; they may only garner feats of the world which need only knowledge or memory to suffice- little more can be acclaimed by their faltering form, for their form is unfitting to harness most arts.

PROGRESSION

 

From the instant of initiation, the path forth is ever-scribed in stone, unmalleable and inescapable. As one begins to walk the fell path of the Knights of the Abyss, their slow pathway forth paired unto their tutelage permits them to slowly begin to coil and form the malaise-ridden miasma within them unto spells and rites- channeling it into Invocations, Monolithic Arts, and Fell Rituals, their forms slowly encroaching forth as stated:

MIASMA

 

Through the utilization of the Abyss- the shattered remnants of fell Aegis itself, the macabre taint of the abyssal altered lifeforce that churns within their body - Miasma -  infects and floods the mortal coil. An altered form of the lifeforce of the world, miasma is intrinsically linked to their nature. The abyssal influence that goads onto this miasma is what weathers away at their mortal husks over time, warping and changing them in the slow path to pseudomortality- a cruel bane which is irreversible. 

 

Miasma is as equal parts a resource and lifeline to the Abyssal Knights. Whilst it weathers away at the mortal form, miasma becomes essential for their performance and physique to remain with powerful stature, becoming essential to bear within their forms. Yet on the other hand, miasma can be expended, exerted out of their bodies and slewn unto Monoliths and Invocations alike to garner powerful advantages against their foes. Despite so, miasma is a finite resource, even moreso than the mana utilized by mages and the dragonsflame by Nephilim- for miasma cannot be regenerated by oneself. As so, it must be created- the lifeforce from other mortals Harvested and tainted by the Abyssal Knight’s own form, taken within their body.

 

Depending on the progression of the Abyssal Knight within the fell path, the maximum amount of miasma one can hold within their form steadily increases, following as listed:

 

     Tier I: [35] Units of Miasma

     Tier II: [45] Units of Miasma

     Tier III: [55] Units of Miasma

     Tier IV: [65] Units of Miasma

     Tier V: [75] Units of Miasma

 

To expend too much miasma is to begin to deteriorate the form- the pseudomortal husk becomes so reliant on the flow of the materia to properly function, that a major expenditure of miasma renders one to a more harrowed and gaunt form and physique. Moving under certain thresholds of units within an Abyssal Knight’s miasma pool will result in severe weaknesses beginning to onset, accompanied by the macabre contortion of physical attributes furthermore. The thresholds are as follows:

 

     ≣ Proficient: Above [25] Units of Miasma

     ≣ Drained: Below [25] Units of Miasma

     ≣ Crippled: Below [10] Units of Miasma

 

One’s innate stock of miasma slowly decays over time within the pseudomortal husk unless a fresh influx is admitted via performing the Invocation of Harvesting; [5] units of miasma drain every [1] OOC week lest harvesting be performed. Counts of miasma cannot be passed between Abyssal Knights.

꩜ Miasma is merely an alteration of lifeforce by the abyss’ tainted influence. It is not a new source of power, yet rather a utilization of an already existing one.

꩜ Miasma is an essential resource to Abyssal Knights; it is expended to cast Invocations, utilize Monolithic Arts, and to perform Rituals alongside others, whilst also being what their form is dependent upon.

꩜ It is both a resource and necessity to Abyssal Knights; units of miasma must be kept track of by players..

꩜ The statures of Proficient, Drained, and Crippled all follow the respective sub-sections of appearance and prowess under Physicality.

PHYSICALITY & APPEARANCE

THE ABYSS-SCORNED

 

From those newly introduced to the abyssal path to knights who have followed the Fell Creed for centuries, their physical form is warped and changed utterly from their priorly ‘true’ mortal state. Their inner pool of miasma taints and warps at the form- yet that same miasma which alters it too, is what permits it to be concealed and better repressed. Depending on their current state, which in turn is reliant on their counts of miasma units, their physical prowess, capacity to utilize their Invocations and Arts, and visible form shift. This reliability on miasma is both their greatest boon and most critical bane, a true weakness which must be carefully managed.

P R O F I C I E N T

 

Abyssal Knights whom harvest often and keep their innate miasma in competent stock appear not too unlike that of the descendant they once were. Whence their pseudomortal form is still resplendent with a vast pool of miasma, those of the fell path are capable of exalting their arcanic prowess over all subtypes of their innate abilities. The hues of their skin, palms, eyes, and hair all don an appearance akin to how they priorly looked, bearing a faux age of appearing as if in their race’s prime; despite so, their hair and eyes are forever grayscale, anywhere from the spectrum from dull whites to pitch blacks, whilst the skin tone is somewhat pallid.

 

Their strength is amplified and retained to the peak of mortal physique within this state, capable of doing nigh-anything any other mortals bearing a heightened physique can. Whilst the form that most abyssal knights bear in their Proficient state suffices as a macabre facsimile to blend within society, any means of casting their inherent abilities and rites will cause their eyes still to harrow an insidious black, following all tells and appearances about Connection elaborated upon within that section.

D R A I N E D

 

As an Abyssal Knight’s inner pool of miasma begins to deplete, be it from excessive casting of Invocations and Monolithic Arts, or by a lack of harvesting for extensive periods of time, physical degradation will become apparent – both visually, and in their pseudomortal capacities. Their visage and expression garners a more gaunt and worn stature, closer to their prior race’s age than normal. Their eyes’ hue dons a warped and marbled hue, sclera and iris blending together into unstable hues mimicking that of their prior form. 

 

Their strength is lowered to that of an average human physique (from a body-builder to an average middle-aged adult), the miasma no longer of a sizable amount to amplify their innate physique to how it once was. They may cast Invocations and Monolithic Arts freely- yet are incapable of participating within Fell Rites in this form.

C R I P P L E D

 

Depleting down to critically low levels of miasma renders an abyssal warlord to wither down unto a vastly degraded nature. Their forms are utterly worn down, the miasma still within their bodies far too low to properly hold their form together. Their organs’ decaying nature begins to show, as the entire body begins to slow down, utterly hampered. Their physique drops to that comparable to an aged sorcerer, whilst their prowess for the arts magical dwindles in turn. They may only cast their inner arcanas- Invocations. They are rendered utterly incapable of casting Monolithic Arts and Fell Rituals alike whatsoever.

 

Their form is extremely withered, flesh appearing corpse-like and decayed, shriveled or rot-laden. Those in this state often obsess over re-claiming miasma to flood within their forms- and often prioritize such a thing over all others. This form is extremely susceptible to holy magics than the other states, feeling the effects of it rendering away the abilities to cast properly. The hair of a Crippled abyssal knight is thinned, eyes deeply sunken and covered in blackened rot.

꩜ Abyssal Knights in their Crippled state, bear physique equivalent to a voidal mage.

꩜ Their physical form becomes extremely withered and worn, appearing as if an incredibly old individual, if not ancient- as rot covers much of their form.

꩜ Their teeth become jagged and uncontrollable, the similar rot that taints their flesh and eyes present here as well.

꩜ Their skin is utterly wrinkled and corpse-like, the eyes are always sunken and bear a blackened rot-like form.

꩜ In their Crippled state, they may be permitted to cast only Invocations. They may not partake in Fell Rituals nor Monolithic Arts.

 

 

 

 

WEAKNESSES

 

The knights of the abyss are not immune to all that purges the world; they too, have crippling weaknesses that scourge and harrow at them, affecting them in all of their ‘states’- some more severe than others. The many Invocations and Monolithic Arts permit them to be gruesome foes in their grand purges, yet those well-prepared or bearing arcana forbidden may end an abyssal knight’s rancor before it truly begins.

 

PSEUDOMORTAL COMPOSURE: No matter how far gone in the fell path an abyssal knight is, their pseudo-mortal vessels still bear ivory bones and soft tissues and organs within them, albeit weakened and over-reliant on miasma to function. Anything that would normally kill a mortal, from severe burns, bleeding, and organ dismemberment would all cause a knight of the abyss to perish.

 

MAGICS OF UNDEATH: The pseudomortal husks of those on the fell path find their inherent arcanas utterly and brutally suppressed and hampered by magics of undeath- those of the necrotic and mystic ilks directly harming their form far more than normal. Direct attacks from either that contact/harm flesh will destroy [5] units of miasma instantly. Units of miasma may only be destroyed this way once every [3] emotes.

 

HEITH HEDRANS / VOIDAL TEARS: Alongside the general effects of both voidal tears and heith hedran rifts, the tattered soul-body link of the abyssal knights is especially hampered by these forces, which their vessel is not made to properly sustain. The necromantic effects of the heith hedran and the overpowering voidal weathering of the tears cause [5] miasma to be drained every [5] emotes within [10] meter range of their borders.

 

ANTIMAGIC / THANHIUM: Antimagic such as thannic steel and null arcana hamper the innate abilities of abyssal knights; direct contact that harms the flesh from one of these sources leads to an inability to cast any innate abilities such as Invocations or Monolithic Arts for [3] emotes, yet currently active Invocations and Monoliths stay active. Furthermore, being hit by thanhium brings a searing pain equivalent to the nerve-wracking agony wrought if an aurum blade sunk into an undead.

 

AURUM / LUNARITE: Similar to ‘true’ undead, aurum has a heightened effect on abyssal knights compared to normal mortals- yet nowhere as much as the searing pain it brings to draugars and the ilk. Rather, aurum causes a far more bearable sensation of wrought pain, sinking into their form; slayersteel does not bear this heightened effect upon their pseudomortal forms. However, metals forged of starsteel garner this same effect of aurum, albeit with greater durability. If hit with aurum- any spells which either suppress, stabilize, or temporarily mend wounds cease function, if mid-cast.

 

HOLY MAGIC: Any form of holy magic that bears spells which have properties not unsimilar to aurum or bear otherwise anti-darkspawn abilities would work as if further following the weakness under Aurum when the abyssal knight is within their Proficient or Drained forms. However, if within their Crippled form, it furthermore functions with a similar magic-hampering ability as thanhium would above.

꩜ The inner physiology of an abyssal knight is nigh-exactly that of the descendant race they once were with sole exception to the fact that some of the organs begin to slowly rot. Most things that would normally kill a descendant, from bleeding hemorrhages, burning alive, execution, or organ dismemberment will still cause an abyssal knight to perish. They are immune to mundane poisons and diseases, but those of the magical ilk such as azhl and necromantic blights still function on them. Abyssal knights may not utilize dyes, illusions, nor alchemy to alter their form, no matter the stage.

꩜ However, abyssal knights need not to drink water, consume food, nor even breathe air- the miasma flooding through their body sustains their pseudomortal form enough for whatever energy and oxygen it needs. Despite this, abyssal knights cannot benefit from Alchemic Potions, mundane concoctions unable to affect their form.

꩜ Magics of undeath, including Necromancy and Mysticism, destroy units of miasma held within abyssal knights upon the contact of spells to flesh. Any spells which directly harm/contact the abyssal knight’s flesh will result in [5] units of miasma being annihilated, which may only proc once every [3] emotes. This only goes for spells, and does not trigger on melee hits from constructs/summons. Items enchanted by these magics however, still trigger this effect. This is accompanied by a firm visual tell of miasma seeping from that wound.

꩜ In the event further new magics of true undeath pass as new CA or magic lore, those too will have the same miasma-destroying effect stated above.

꩜ Being within the proximity of a Heith Hedran or a Voidal Tear cause further affliction to an abyssal knight than their base effects; every [5] emotes within a range of [10] meters of the borders of either of these rifts will cause [5] units of miasma to be annihilated in a similar way to magics of undeath.

꩜ Being directly hit in the flesh with thanhium or other sufficient antimagic such as null arcana will prevent all casting of Invocations or Monolithic arts for [3] emotes following the blow, yet all active Invocations and Monolithic Arts are not affected by this, no longer relying on the abyssal knight to function.

꩜ Aurum and lunarite suffices as a weakness to them, bringing forth a searing pain unto all their forms, yet does not bear any true ‘visual’ tells to it. It bears a burning/searing pain to where it slashes or bashes into flesh, yet not as strong as if it was aurum to a normal undead. If hit with Aurum, any spells which either suppress, stabilize, or temporarily mend wounds cease function, if mid-cast. Slayersteel does not bear this effect on abyssal knights.

꩜ If an abyssal knight is in their Proficient or Drained forms, contact from any holy magic which bears similar anti-darkspawn or aurum-aligned abilities would function as if it was aurum. However, if hitting a Crippled abyssal knight, it furthermore also bears the magic-hampering of thanhium hitting their form. Argentum and other ‘faux-holy’ metals fall under this category.

 

 

DEATH MECHANICS

 

Psuedomortality is merely a name. Those upon the fell path often find their husks fall under conflict time and time again, yet even those gruesome ends are merely temporary setbacks. Upon truly perishing in combat, their body lingers for solely [1] emote, before the heart begins to pulse yet again, beating at an unnatural tempo whilst miasma floods about the vessel’s corpse, wreathing and coiling around it. The wash of miasma rapidly and utterly consumes and eats away at the knight’s cadaver and equipment alike, before dissipating in a slew of smokes.

 

Depending on the manner of death, an abyssal knight is slowly stitched back together by the remnants of their pool of miasma within the following timeframes:

 

     ≣ Blood Loss: The abyssal knight will regenerate after [12] OOC hours.

         လ Deaths via bleeding out or hemorrhages will incur this.

     ≣ Organ Damage: The abyssal knight will regenerate after [1] OOC day.

         လ Deaths via organ failure or disembowelment will incur this.

     ≣ Beheading: The abyssal knight will regenerate after [2] OOC days.

         လ Deaths via decapitation or beheading will incur this.

     ≣ Magics of Undeath: The abyssal knight will regenerate after [3] OOC days.

         လ Deaths via necromantic draining or mystic spells will incur this.

     ≣ Rifts/Tears: The abyssal knight will regenerate after [1] OOC week.

         လ Deaths via rifts of heith hedran or voidal tears incur this.

Upon death, an abyssal knight loses [10] units of miasma through this self-cannibalism, yet is incapable of dropping under [5] units by this manner. As a result, when abyssal knights die and are consumed by their own miasma, they become unplayable for a set duration listed below depending on the method by which they died and do not remember the circumstance of their death for the incident leading up to it as per normal death rules. However, as they are reconstituted, they will remember the feeling of ‘dying’ such as being disemboweled and the sensation of their guts falling out of them or the agony of being hurled into a Heith Hedran.

 

REDLINES:

꩜ Precisely [1] emote after an abyssal knight perishes, it’s body is overtaken by a swarm of miasma that flows from it’s corpse, removing [10] units of miasma from it as it begins the respawn timer.

꩜ The timer for miasma’s self-draining normally goading one to feed is paused when an Abyssal Knight is regenerating themselves.

꩜ Depending on the type of death, differing timeframes are needed to resurrect. In the event that the cause of death is not one of the above, it defaults to a [1] OOC day respawn timer.

꩜ Whilst they do not remember the events of how they die, the effects of the manner of death still remain loosely upon their memories in terms of pain, and pain solely. If they perished through impalement, they know and still feel that pain for a small moment after they resurrect.

꩜ PvP death, as well as RP ‘executions’ emoted out following PvP follow these death mechanics fully if the abyssal knight declares/votes for PvP. PvP deaths otherwise have a [1] OOC day respawn timer, but does not consume miasma.

 

 

 

 

MENTALITY & DREAD

THE DECAYING MIND

 

The fell path finds itself to be utterly cruel to those who walk it. The mortal mind finds the physical form it bears to be unfitting of it- a body held together by miasma and creed, wrought crippled and fuming. With their vestigial form taken mantle, their mind tumbles unto a state of utter peacelessness; the minds of those who walk the fell path are always troubled to some extent. Hallucinations and delusion often rise in twain from these entities, cruelly and harshly carving away at their mind over time.

 

These harrowing fragments of thought leave their minds scarred and worn- whilst the very miasma that pumps through their body leaves them without need to sleep nor rest, their minds always feel as if they are tired, even when their physique is optimal. The decaying mind becomes incapable of feeling the same thoughts as the mortal which preceded it once did; they cannot feel any emotional connection whatsoever to anyone, be it platonic, romantic, or even companionship. The mind is incapable of forming any such link- they only feel joy and glory in warfare, only feel greed and spite in combative loss, and likewise. Harsher feelings such as fear or panic fail to onset upon them in a multitude of scenarios, often just turning to rage or a warped facsimile of war-ridden joy in such cases.

 

The longer one walks a fell path, the more aversions they gain. They may choose [1] of these to gain at every other tier,  until they bear [3] of these mentally warping aversions, as following:

 

≣ THANATOPHOBIA: Above all else, the unsettling feelings of their own un-mortality is one of the most crippling. Even though their forms are functionally never-ending and eternal, their pseudomortal vessel can still crumple and falter. This looming sense of dread is accompanied with them forevermore, even the slimmest chances of death are brought with a mass paranoia to them.

≣ UNDEAD ARCANA: The hewn mists and fumes of mysticism and necromancy alongside the sinister functions of their arcane magics of undeath cause unsettling contempt within the abyssal knights upon sight. They are inclined to avoid these when at afar, or to cull the root-source of them when present, as consequence to their innate weaknesses of such things.

≣ NECROTIC CONSTRUCTS: The flesh-golemic summons of necromancy and the soul-hewn eidola of mysticism cause a similar aversion- one that goads them on to either annihilate those constructs or to move apart and escape that baleful regime. These feelings are not absolute, yet fed and goaded on upon by their natural weakness to those magics.

≣ HOLY MAGICS: The active fumes and tells of holy magics such as Templarism, Clericism, and other aengulic-derived magics cause a similar aversion within all their forms- contempt for those magics rising within them upon sight.

≣ VOIDAL MAGICS: The very acts and consequences of performing voidal magic begets a similar contempt to the abyssal knights- an aversion caused by their natural weakness to voidal tears, the spells, obelisks, and effects of voidal magic cause this unsettling notion.

 

It goes without saying that they feel a vast disconnection to the mortal races, including that which they once were. This mental state of dissociation to their past kindred is not unsimilar to how a mortal may wield animals within numerous forms- be it similar to a combat-adjourned tool, or whelps which merely impede progress. It is not uncommon for an abyssal knight to view themselves to be no longer human, elven or whatever race they were prior- and rather looking upon themselves as an ilk of ‘different’ being, no higher or lower than the mortal races, yet merely different and ‘adjacent’.

꩜ Abyssal knights are incapable of feeling any relationship to any mortal, be it platonic, romantic, or any other ilk. They only view agreements out of necessity and to net power for themselves. They only may view others of their ilk as companions and ‘siblings’ to an extent.

꩜ At every other tier (T1, T3, & T5), an abyssal knight must gain one of the aversions listed above, until they bear [3] of them in total. The aversions they gained must be roleplayed out always, no matter what state they are in.

꩜ Abyssal knights feel vastly disconnected from the descendant races and the world as a whole, losing emotional connections and bonds utterly so. Thoughts such as panic and fear, alongside love and jealousy fail to even onset upon them whatsoever. Feelings that were normally ‘positive’ are only incurred by more macabre means; joy may only be felt through slaughter, enthusiasm only through forcing squires through trials, and so forth.

꩜ Their minds always feel as if ‘tired’, no matter the state of their form- they are incapable of sleeping nor truly resting, which furthers this feeling- albeit their miasma keeps them in a functional state.

꩜ Abyssal Knights cannot ‘sense’ holy magic, necrotic constructs, voidal magics or magics of undeath, and must be informed in some way of their identities as such through roleplay. Furthermore, the abilities and tells of these magics will not be instantly understood as falling under these aversions until one realizes what they are.

 

 

THE FELL CREED

 

Within the days of eld, when the Abyss was still yet fresh and the first pseudomortal scions had begun to tap into it, the Fell Creed was established. A code of conduct whittled down to its most essential nature, the tenets are held to be ‘true’ above all else within the society of the Abyssal Knights- to the point where a vast belief is held within upholding the validity of the creed, lest true harm be onset. Despite their forms beginning to decay and fall unto a macabre state of pseudomortality, the creed is still held by these ‘fallen’ descendants- a contract that is wrought before them.

 

     ☱ I. Knights do not wander deeper. To tread further into greed is to forsake peace for madness, and the mad are shunned.

     ☲ II. Knights do not seek the light of vanity. To sever ties with solitude is to be consumed by illusions of grandeur, and the prideful are abandoned.

     ☳ III. Knights do not scorn the dead. To neglect the guardianship of undeath is to forsake the wisdom of antiquity, and the forsakers are forgotten.

     ☴ IV. Knights do not dishonor the weak. To sow injustice among the dead or the living is to betray honor itself, and the unjust are discarded.

     ☵ V. Knights do not extinguish life in vain. To take life needlessly is to violate death’s sanctity, and the violators are condemned.

     ☶ VI. Knights do not forsake their vigil. To stray from their duty as sentry is to invite corruption, and where corruption thrives, it must be culled.

 

The tenets of the Fell Creed are permanently hewn within the minds of those whose bodies have been set down the path of the Abyssal Knights. These tenets are often incanted and denoted far before the Rite of Elevation is undergone. Whilst the Fell Creed is not truly a system which bears power on its own- many Abyssal Knights fear of breaking tenets for the risk that betraying such a purpose may lead to a macabre end, be it by the hands of another member of the Fell Creed or the very entities and denizens of the shattered Abyss itself.

ABYSSAL CASTING

PRINCIPLES

 

Channeling the inner miasma that ties their body together, those who walk the fell path may expel and weave the very energies that bind them into spells and rites. The core means of utilizing miasma can be split into three subsections:

 

လ INVOCATIONS: Acute, directly-performed spells.

လ MONOLITHIC ARTS: Creation and utilization of monoliths.

လ FELL RITUALS: Tenebrous, long-drawn rites.

 

Within each of these, there are core principles that are laid down, adherent over all of them. The largest of these adherent principles are those of ‘Connection’ and ‘Tells’. Similar to most other magics and innate arts throughout the world, all functions of casting bear Tells to it, alongside necessities that are present within all ilks of casting. Whenever casting any ilk of innate abyssal magics, strict tells must be present in all forms, as the following:

 

⏣⃘⏣ Blackened Eyes: Whilst casting, the abyssal knight’s sclera falls to a pitch-black, whilst the iris gloams a sinister silver hue. This light is strong, gleaming through veil and armor alike.

⏣⃘⏣ Leaking Miasma: Whilst casting, miasma idly leaks and slews out of the abyssal knight’s palms, seeping through armor.

⏣⃘⏣ Revealed Creature: Whilst casting, the abyssal knight counts as a revealed dark creature for all external purposes.

 

Channeling miasma forth requires a moment of stabilization- an instant given to ‘Connect’ to their innate wellspring within them, beginning to then over subsequent time carve and form their miasma into a multitude of spells. Connection requires [1] emote of adhered focus, where all the tells begin to take function until connection ceases oncemore. This connection, being hewn to a source internal to them, is immensely vigorous; little-to-no mental effort nor focus is needed to even hold it, dissipating only when falling unconscious.

 

To cast Monolithic Arts- every action done needs more than just idle thought. A more refined subsect of abyssal casting, one needs to constantly be able to whisper the hushed tone of Al'tahrn-Durngo whilst moving an arm in associated gestures- inability to do so, from being de-limbed, unable to speak, or otherwise, means one cannot invoke Monolithic Arts.

꩜ When casting, abyssal knights are always deemed as revealed dark creatures for all purposes that aren’t already outlined in their weaknesses (Aurum, Holy Magics.)

꩜ In regards to Thanium/other tier-based interactions, all spells count as the tier of the abyssal knight casting them. If struck against Thanhium, they’d find the steel lighting up. All redlines and guidelines of that lorepiece apply.

꩜ While casting any combative abyssal spells, the abyssal knight will be able to move and act whilst casting without any hindrance, unless stated otherwise in the redlines.

꩜ Utilizing miasma does not require concentration unless stated in the redlines. Each spell requires and consumes a specific amount of units per cast, lack of units will result in the spell failing.

꩜ Connecting to their magic requires [1] emote of focus; connection is necessary to cast any and all spells succeeding this emote. All emotecounts stated do not include connection.

 

 

 

 

INVOCATIONS

CORE AUGMENTS

 

Rapid and direct utilization of miasma, be it compression or expulsion within lesser forms and statures fall under the category of Invocations. From a rapid consumption of miasma to a steady burn of one’s stocks of it, the simpler and more ‘crude’ variants of their abyssal casting is done through this form.

 

Harvesting - [2 Emotes] [Combative] - [T1]

An abyssal knight requires miasma to function and cast alike; to harvest it is the sole way to continue onwards on the fell path. Taking after their predecessors, from a steady clasp upon flesh- they can leech in a fragment of their own abyssal taint, before withdrawing their lifeforce in the form of miasma- consumed into themselves. Depending on the tier of abyssal knight, differing amounts of miasma may be sapped:

     လ T1: [15] Units of Miasma

     လ T2: [15] Units of Miasma

     လ T3: [20] Units of Miasma

     လ T4: [20] Units of Miasma

     လ T5: [25] Units of Miasma

Over a period of [2] emotes, an abyssal knight may clasp exposed flesh of a mortal, and begin to leech out fragments of lifeforce whilst tainting it with the remnants of fell Aegis within them- causing both it to become miasma added to their units, and inflicting the wounded with a painful sensation. The flesh where the miasma was sapped becomes blackened and rot-like, whilst flesh deteriorates for a period of [3] OOC days in that location.

꩜ Harvesting costs no units of miasma.

꩜ Harvesting takes [2] emotes of steady contact from the abyssal knight’s grasp to exposed skin.

꩜ Only greater-soul bearing mortals may be sapped via harvesting. Depending on the tier the abyssal knight is, differing amounts of Miasma, from [15] counts at T1 & T2, [20] counts at T3 & T4, and [25] counts at T5.

꩜ Harvesting may only be performed [1] time per [12] OOC hours.

꩜ As lifeforce is sapped from the victim, the location and limb will become covered in blackened rot, the flesh appearing crippled for [3] OOC days. A single individual may not be harvested whilst they still recover from another Harvesting wound.

꩜ Harvesting can only harvest freshly from individuals. Bottled lifeforce and that gathered via necromancy is not viable.

 

Wreathing - [2 Emotes] [5 Miasma] [Combative] - [T1, T2, T4]

Congealing and weaving their own miasma around their weaponry, an abyssal knight may temporarily acclimate miasma into a vast array of forms. The most crucial ability for abyssal knights, the utilization of miasma is the very birthright of their kindred- wreathing it unto an array of styles, each bearing benefits and consequences. Over the course of [2] emotes, a swathe of miasma may wash over a weapon and last for [8] emotes, before consolidating over it- donning one of the three forms: Discombobulate, Lacerate, or Extirpate.

 

     ☱ Discombobulate - [T1]

          Armaments which are wreathed in the subtype Discombobulate look as if a dulled, matted covering of blackened mist is splayed over its surface. Weapons wreathed in this style bear an additional ‘force’ to it, garnering external knockback if it hits an opponent’s body. All strikes done with this form act as if a peak-race punch furthermore accompanies each blow, whilst if it hits one’s body, has a physical knockback of [2] meters in repulsion. Discombobulate may only inflict knockback [3] times per combat, failing to continue to do so after such.

     ☲ Lacerate - [T2]

         Armaments which are wreathed in the subtype Lacerate look as if a torrent of needle-like miasma clouds and rips around the material’s surface. Weapons wreathed in this style bear further slashing ‘potential’ to them- the torrent of miasma shredding as it strikes, as attacks function as if it was both slashing and piercing forth at the same time. Blows from this form hit twice- yet furthermore bears a critical flaw. The additional miasma makes it feel to its wielder that it has doubled in weight and slogs down movement, and reduces their movement to cap at [2] meters when walking and [4] meters when sprinting.

     ☴ Extirpate - [T4]

          Armaments which are wreathed in the subtype Extirpate look as if lashing tendrils of a thick, smoky onyx leech off the blade’s form. Weapons wreathed in this style bear a singing property to them- strikes dealt with them scorch whatever flesh they cleave into with a second-degree burn, and furthermore taint the flesh of impact. Blows done with Extirpate leave a similar abyssal-taint upon the flesh it impacts when Harvesting.

 

Changing within the states of wreathing requires [1] emote, consuming [5] further units of miasma as the appearance of miasma above the blade aberrantly shifts states. Any weapon of antimagic such as thanhium, or is treated by an external property such as salium or alchemic oils will not sufficiently wreath. If the abyssal knight loses their grip on their wreathed weapon, the wreathing will remain until its duration runs out; should a non-abyssal knight pick it up, they will feel a searing effect on their hand, forcing the individual to drop it. The pain will not cause any physical damage.

꩜ Wreathing costs [5] units of miasma.

꩜ Wreathing takes [2] emotes to wreathe a bladed weapon in miasma, and lasts for [8] emotes. Non-bladed armaments may not be wreathed.

꩜ Wreathing may not be utilized upon ranged nor thrown projectiles and armaments. Armaments which bear antimagic or are treated by an external property (salium, alchemy, etc.) cannot be wreathed.

꩜ Strikes done whilst Discombobulate is active bear the additional effect of a peak-race strength punch landing in the same location as the strike. If a strike done with Discombobulate directly hits one’s body (is not blocked by a weapon, shield, etc.) an additional knockback effect is present, pushing them [2] meters away from the abyssal knight. Knockback may only be inflicted [3] times per combat.

꩜  Strikes done whilst Lacerate is active bear the additional effect of bearing both slashing and piercing properties to it, alongside hitting twice upon contact. However, it feels to the abyssal knight as if the blade weighs over double what it actually is, alongside capping their movement to [2] meters when walking and [4] when sprinting.

꩜ Strikes done whilst Extirpate is active bear the additional effect of scorching all it contacts with a second-degree burn, worsening by one tier every consecutive strike, and furthermore leaving a taint similar to the one caused via Harvesting to the exposed flesh, bearing the same mechanics as so noncombatively.

꩜ Switching between states takes [1] emote, and consumes [5] further units of miasma, the effects instantly taking effect the emote of switching- oncemore restarting the timer until dissipation.

 

Lesser Perpetuity - [10 Miasma] [Non-Combative] - [T2]

Flooding and densening miasma within wounds that taint and harm their body, an abyssal knight may idly mend and repair themselves slowly from whatever lingering harm that they bear. Depending on the harm of the wounds, differing severity of injuries may require miasma to be burned away for the flesh and ivory to regenerate how it once was. No matter what, one may only regenerate when they are in the Proficient state, unable to harness their perpetual nature in weakened statures.

 

     ☖ Minor Wounds: Scrapes, cuts, bruises, scratches, and lacerations.

     ☖ Medium Wounds: Lost hands/noses/ears/eyes/feet, broken bones, mundane/voidal burns, and punctures.

     ☖ Major Wounds: Lost limbs, dragonsflame burns, necromantic wounds, nonlethal organ damage.

 

The choice whether to regenerate limbs or not is fully up to the abyssal knight; one may pretend they are crippled to further ploys, or may merely prefer to keep scars they find close to themselves. Minor wounds take a minimum [3] OOC hours to heal, and do not consume miasma, the innate pool to them sufficing to mend these. Medium wounds take up to [6] OOC hours to heal and consume [5] counts of miasma- and major wounds, the most severe of them all, take up to [1] OOC day to heal- the plight of mending their flesh enough to require [10] units of miasma.

꩜ Lesser Perpetuity may only be performed when in the Proficient state, and may only be done outside of combat.

꩜ Lesser Perpetuity costs no counts of miasma when mending Minor wounds ([3] OOC Hours), [5] counts when mending Medium wounds ([6] OOC Hours), and [10] units when mending Major wounds ([1] OOC Day).

꩜ Lesser Perpetuity bears the visible tell of blackened foam washing and bubbling over the wounded flesh and bone, stitching it into a repaired state; this tell may not be ignored.

꩜ The true healing effect of Lesser Perpetuity may be delayed by the abyssal knight until they so wish- permitting them to instantly mend in a rupturing wash of miasma, given the minimum time and miasma costs have still been met.

 

Occlusion - [2 Emotes] [5 Miasma] [Combative] - [T2]

A lesser form of the greater darkness which floods the abyss- miasma can be collected within one’s maw, before exhaling in a gout of blackened smoke which rapidly swarms about, creating a sphere of miasma-ridden fog where all is reduced to absolute ‘darkness’. Upon the contact of any holy arcana, thanhium, dragonsflame, or other sufficient antimagic to the occluding mists, it instantly evaporates the miasma, ending the effects of occlusion. Occlusion’s casting requires a control of breath- if the throat or head of the abyssal knight is struck in any way during casting, the invocation ceases to properly channel, halting.

 

Over the course of [2] emotes, a swathe of miasma may be collected and expelled in an exhale, expanding to a [3] meter radius dome, lasting for [3] emotes. The occluding miasma is a quenching black- the dark mists making it utterly impossible to see within the sphere; yet the abyssal knights whom invoked it may see freely through it.

꩜ Occlusion costs [5] units of miasma.

꩜ Occlusion takes [2] emotes to collect and exhale miasma. During these two emotes, one’s breath must be held and then subsequently expelled. 

꩜ Occlusion creates a sphere with a radius of [3] which lasts for [3] emotes. The black smog obscures visibility for all parties, living, necromancer or undead, cutting off line of sight, except for abyssal knights.

꩜ Movement is limited to [3] meters per emote whilst incanting Occlusion. An abyssal knight is only unable to attack during charging, but may while the invocation is active.

꩜ Occlusion may not be casted again for [5] emotes after casting it.

꩜ Occlusion’s charging may be interrupted if the abyssal knight were to be struck in the head or hit in the throat, either by a projectile or weapon. The force behind a strike must be hard enough to stagger or incapacitate. Miasma is still consumed when this occurs.

꩜ Any contact holy light/spell, thanhium, a sufficient-tiered air evocation spell, or dragonsflame instantly evaporates the ‘darkness’, in a non-blinding flash of light as pertaining to the source of dissipation.

 

Rippling - [2 Emotes] [Non-Combative] - [T3]

By channeling their inner miasma to amplify the volatility of their innate nature, an abyssal knight can- with immense focus- augment their miasma with a fuming wash to collapse unto itself, permitting the fell warrior to reform elsewhere. The exact aesthetics of their rippling vary greatly; with whatever aesthetics that fit the miasma. 

 

Over [2] emotes, an abyssal knight may transverse their own realm, warping from one place to another, as following the rules of soulstoning. Further, an abyssal knight may only utilize this ability to transport themselves and other willing transportees- it may not be used to move structures nor unwilling individuals.

꩜ Rippling costs no units of miasma.

꩜ Rippling requires [2] emotes to cast, one of congealing miasma about oneself, and then another in warping away with whatever aesthetic that fits with the CA’s tells.

꩜ This spell is purely an aesthetic for soulstoning. Thus, all soulstoning rules apply. Rippling cannot be done in combat without the consent of all other parties akin to soulstone rules. The same applies to escaping capture, subject to the consent of all other present players and defaulting to soulstone rules where an agreement cannot be reached.

 

Suspension - [1-2 Emote] [Combative] - [T3]

Cycling miasma around their forms, an abyssal knight may invoke their inner forms upwards, levitating as if suspended by an ethereal force. The controlled warping and shifting of miasma within their own body, those who are more accustomed to the fell path can levitate and move above the ground in fumes of black and gray.

 

Over [1] emote, an abyssal knight may loft themselves upwards- levitating above the ground. Capable of moving over water as well, levitation over water takes [1] further emote of preparation- and furthermore, being struck when suspended over water instantly breaks the levitation. Thanhium, dragonsflame, and holy magics alike cause this passive ability to diffuse easily, instantly ceasing the levitating effects when struck no matter what.

 

REDLINES:

Spoiler

꩜ Suspension takes [1] emote to float upwards, and can only be utilized to levitate up to [1] meter in height off the floor. Suspension’s duration is passive, and lasts until ceased. Suspension may not be used to reach mechanically inaccessible locations. Being hit by thanhium, holy magic, or dragonsflame instantly ceases the levitation.

꩜ A player may float in combat only if such makes sense in the scenario. They may not suddenly float should they already be bound to the floor, for instance. An abyssal knight may not use this to justify bypassing anything they are otherwise unable to bypass mechanically; you can only levitate to places you can already reach mechanically.

꩜ If an abyssal knight seeks to use Suspension to bypass obstacles larger / deeper than [1] meter during an event, the overseeing ST has the discretion to allow or deny its use for such a purpose.

꩜ Suspension over water requires [1] further emote of preparation before floating over it. Above water, levitation instantly breaks when struck, causing one to fall into the water. Suspension cannot be redone until they oncemore reach land.

 

Mending - [3 Emotes] [10 Miasma] [Non-Combative] - [T4]

To wield miasma is not to purely harm- it too, can be woven to amend. A macabre facsimile of healing rites performed by hemomancers and those clerics of eld, the first abyssal knights learned to mend- to inject miasma unto wounds, and ripple them shut, sealing and stabilizing the wounds, yet fails to truly heal them.

     ☖ Minor Wounds: Scrapes, cuts, bruises, scratches, and lacerations.

     ☖ Medium Wounds: Lost hands/noses/ears/eyes/feet, broken bones, mundane/voidal burns, and punctures.

Over [3] emotes, an abyssal knight may slew forth miasma into a palm, which then may lay over an individual, cloaking their form in miasma as whatever Minor and Medium wounds that filled their form would be immediately stabilized and sealed forth- yet fails to truly heal them. Those wounds stabilized, will each garner a sinister abyssal taint to them- the very same that forms on a victim to Harvesting, albeit with one major difference- this taint will remain until the wounds are properly healed through external/natural means.

꩜ Mending takes [3] emotes to thread miasma within the air, and then stabilize and suppress the wounds of another being who is not an abyssal knight.

꩜ Mending cannot heal wounds- it only seals and stabilizes other individuals with a coating of miasma that further taints their flesh, whilst fully suppressing the pain.

꩜ All wounds stabilized gain an abyssal taint which follows all conditions under the spell ‘Harvesting’ above. Unlike those taints, however- the taint created by this means does not dissipate until the wounds are mundanely truly healed. If the abyssal taint upon the wounds is removed before the wounds are properly sealed through alternate means, the wounds immediately reopen.

 

Greater Perpetuity - [3 Emotes] [15-20 Miasma] [Combative] - [T5]

Through the brutality of combat, all may seem lost at times- limbs may be torn asunder, wounds may slough at the body. An abyssal knight who has mastered perpetuity, however- can amend that. Through the sacrifice of a copious quantity of miasma, wounds can be stabilized and lost limbs can be replaced with a macabre mimicry of what once was, through the congealment of miasma.

     ☖ Minor Wounds: Scrapes, cuts, bruises, scratches, and lacerations.

Over [3] emotes, an abyssal knight may bring forth their perpetual nature in a lesser state- a sudden rush of forced miasma that ruptures over their entire form- sealing all Minor wounds in a similar manner to the invocation of Mending. These wounds, albeit stabilized- are still easily torn back open, and are not truly healed. Lost limbs can are replaced with miasma-hewn copies of them, bearing lesser strength than the originals, and ceasing to exist whence combat has concluded.

 

REDLINES:

꩜ Greater Perpetuity cannot heal wounds- it only seals and stabilizes with a coating of miasma, whilst fully suppressing the pain.

꩜ Lost limbs are replaced with a congealed miasma-derived substance which is temporary, bearing durability and weight alike of Heavy Armor- it does not bear peak racial physique, and rather only average racial strength. These limbs dissipate once the roleplay interaction has concluded.

꩜ Greater Perpetuity may only be used once every [12] OOC hours- to use it more than so is impossible, the abyssal knight finding the miasma refusing to be called forth.

 

 

 

 

MONOLITHIC ARTS

WARPED PILLARS

 

Whilst lesser and more ‘raw’ focusing of direct channeling of miasma may be performed directly within the abyssal knight’s pseudomortal body- to cast forth more refined and augmented arts, an alternative form of invoking the abyss was created, eons prior: to form and cast through monoliths.

 

     ✶ Monoliths: Monoliths are condensed forms of miasma, in the shape of a slick, obsidian-surfaced material. Monoliths bear the form of an obelisk, and the dimensions must be contained within a [1x1x2] meter zone. Monoliths are temporary- lasting no longer than [8] emotes from the time they were hewn, and can be broken prematurely in [2] blunt strikes or [3] bladed strikes. Monoliths must be on stable ground to be consolidated- they cannot form atop sand, leaves, water, and so on.

 

REDLINES:

Spoiler

꩜ Monoliths must bear a form that fills a [1x1x2] meter zone. They may not exceed this, nor may they be excessively smaller than these constraints.

꩜ Monoliths do not last any longer than [8] emotes from the time they are arisen, and may be broken prematurely with [2] blunt strikes or [3] bladed strikes.

꩜ The design of the Monolith is freeform and may boast whatever engravings, shapes, and details, so as long as it bears the sleek, reflective texture and fills the maximum space.

꩜ Monolithic Arts require one to be able to extend a hand unto a Monolith to cast. Thus, one cannot cast these abilities if they are unable to move their limbs, have no limbs/hands, or are mentally unable to do such a gesture, or furthermore do not know where a Monolith is.

 

Congeal Monolith - [2 Emotes] [5 Miasma] [Combative] - [T3]

The core basis of Monolithic Arts; to control and maneuver a more concentrated exaltation of miasma, one must first form a Monolith. Congealment is the core basis of this, and is fixated about compressing miasma into a shape- granting it a temporary form which the Abyssal Knight  may channel more augmented abilities through. Depending on the Abyssal Knight’s tier, the maximum cap of Monoliths they may wield in total increases slowly, as follows:

Over [2] emotes, an Abyssal Knight may raise and thusly condense Miasma into this temporary form, solidifying unto a Monolith. At [T5], an abyssal knight may congeal [2] monoliths at once.

Encroachment - [2 Emotes] [5 Miasma] [Combative] - [T3]

To slew forth miasma, is to invoke corrosion of flesh. The most simple of Monolithic Arts, Encroachment is the partial destabilitation of a Monolith whilst coursing miasma through it, releasing a pulse that burns at exposed flesh. The pulse of miasma expelled creates corrosive burns upon the exposed flesh of those bearing lifeforce, permitting an Abyssal Knight to slow down slews of enemies.

 

Over [2] emotes, an Abyssal Knight may poise a hand towards one of their monoliths, and release a pulse of  unadulterated miasma from it in a radius of [3] meters. This slew leaves corrosive burns equivalent to [2nd] degree burns to exposed flesh- and [1st] degree burns to flesh covered by Light Armor.

꩜ Encroachment burns all exposed flesh with its pulsation with [2nd] degree burns, and flesh under Light Armor with [1st] degree burns. This pulse does not burn flesh beneath Medium or Heavy Armor.

 

Perambulate - [1 Emote] [5 Miasma] [Combative] - [T3]

Through a rapid slam of miasma within a kick or shove, one whom walks the fell path may rapidly utilize a physical blow of any ilk to slide a Monolith in the direction of the blow, moving it rapidly in ways that permit it to be greater used offensively.

 

Over [1] emote, an Abyssal Knight may kick or otherwise strike a Monolith, expending miasma to rapidly slide it across stable ground, up to [10] meters in range. This sliding motion bears little physical force to it- ceasing in movement if it contacts anything bearing significant mass of about the size of a descendant with no more force than a descendant’s punch.

꩜ Perambulate takes [1] emotes to channel miasma into a monolith with an idle blow/kick to it, causing it to surge up to [10] meters in a straight line.

꩜ The movement of Perambulate may only move in a straight line, from the direction of the blow done to it. It instantly stops if it hits anything bearing equal or greater to a descendant’s mass.

꩜ As with all Monolithic Arts, to invoke this spell requires an abyssal knight to extend a palm poised to the Monolith chosen to move whilst the strike is made.

꩜ Perambulate’s movement occurs rapidly, moving it’s path fully by the end of the emote it was channeled through.

꩜ Perambulate can only move across stagnant ground- it cannot move over liquids such as water, nor can it move over unstable surfaces such as sand or leaves. If it is to move onto one of those surfaces, it would halt before doing so.

꩜ Those hit by Perambulate’s acceleration find it doing no more force than a peak-strength descendant punch.

 

Fragmentalize - [3 Emotes] [5 Miasma] [Combative] - [T4]

A direct combustion and fragmentation of an active Monolith, Fragmentalize is the controlled annihilation of a Monolith whilst channeling miasma unto it. A steady process which takes [2] emotes of direct focus, whilst it combusts at the end of [1] further emote after so. This combustion, whilst close-range at best, is harmful to both friend and foe alike- a direct combustion of miasma compiled with shards of the Monolith.

 

Over [2] emotes, an Abyssal Knight may overclock a Monolith with miasma, causing it to volatilely combust [1] emote after. The combustion stretches [2] meters in radius from the Monolith’s edges, slamming with a powerful physical load, comparable to an olog-hewn slam, and knocking one back up to [4] meters upon direct impact. If the monolith is struck at all whence this Monolithic Art is mid-casting, it would instantly shatter harmlessly.

꩜ Fragmentalize takes [2] emotes to channel miasma into a Monolith and subsequently prepare it to combust open, after which it combusts at the end of [1] further emote, which does not need focus nor active casting.

꩜ Casting the [2] emotes of infusing the miasma requires moderate focus- if the abyssal knight is struck by anything which forcefully displaces their extended limb apart from facing to the Monolith, the Monolithic Art is canceled.

꩜ As with all Monolithic Arts, to invoke this spell requires an abyssal knight to extend a palm poised to the Monolith chosen to cast through for all emotes of casting.

꩜ Upon combusting, the Monolith is destroyed and ceases to exist, the shrapnel lobbed about to all within [2] meters of the obelisk’s edges. The blow is akin to an orcish-strength slam, with the force of the shrapnel launching all smaller than an olog [4] meters back.

 

Ambuscade - [2 Emotes] [10 Miasma] [Combative] - [T5]

Spinning miasma unto links of chains about a Monolith, temporary physicality can be granted to those tethers- capable of streaking outwards and binding to nearby beings. These temporary chains are weak; they do not bear enough force to pull nor truly secure one in place, yet rather merely slow the targets they ‘bind’ with the slogging abyssal tethers.

 

Over [2] emotes, an Abyssal Knight may poise a hand towards one of their monoliths as slews of miasma harden into chains, and thusly release these chains to spiral outwards- tethering themselves loosely to all beings within a [5] block radius from it- pulling them [2] meters toward the Monolith and immensely slowing their movement down, reducing all forms of movement by [2] meters. The chain that ‘binds’ them to this Monolith is pseudo-corporal, easily breakable by [1] direct strike to it.

꩜ Ambuscade takes [2] emotes to channel miasma into a Monolith and subsequently have it lash out in whorling tendrils, which tether and chain upon all beings within a [5] block radius from it. These Tethers pull all beings caught [2] meters towards the Monolith they originated from, and reduce all movement by [2] meters so long as they are active.

꩜ These tethers may either be broken by the destruction of the Monolith, moving [10] meters from the Monolith to snap it by force, or by spending [1] emote to strike at it, shattering that tether clean.

꩜ As with all Monolithic Arts, to invoke this spell requires an abyssal knight to extend a palm poised to the Monolith chosen to cast through for all emotes of casting.

 

Suppressive Umbra - [3 Emotes] [10 Miasma] [Combative] - [T5]

Fell Aegis itself, the abyssal lands which took over the remnants of that desecration, is a land reduced to anti-deific anarchy by its core. To channel a Monolith to bring forth a mere fragment of that, is the most power-wrought ability an Abyssal Knight can bear- to suppress. And suppression, within this lesser form is to weaken the arcana of the deific, a warped mist which slews from the Monolith.

 

Over [3] emotes, an Abyssal Knight may poise a hand towards one of their monoliths as rancorous smokes slew from around it- forming a translucent materia which spans over a [4] block radius from its edges. This smog does nothing to hamper movement nor impede vision, rather tainting those deific with an abyssal weakness; deific and aengudaemon-derived magics are capped at spellcasting spells only [Tier 3] or below, for a duration of either [4] emotes or until the Monolith is broken.

꩜ The mist lingers for [4] emotes or until the Monolith is prematurely broken, after which it harmlessly dissipates.

꩜ Those within the mist are temporarily tainted by the Abyss’ innate anti-deific means, suppressing and weakening their deific and aengudaemonic magics to only cast spells at [Tier 3] or below.

꩜ As with all Monolithic Arts, to invoke this spell requires an abyssal knight to extend a palm poised to the Monolith chosen to cast through for all emotes of casting.

 

 

 

 

FELL RITES

FORBIDDEN INCANTATIONS

 

To channel the utmost of the abyss, forbidden knowledge has been passed down from the days of the first resonant knights and wraiths alike. Manners of connection to the fell path, banishment, and even invoking the terrain of the abyssal remnants of fell Aegis have been passed down, from one to another.

 

Rite of Suppression - [2+ Knights] [20 Miasma] - [T2]

Simplicity at its core. The Abyss- those baleful remnants of Aegis- stand at an antithesis to the raw force of the deific means. Thus one wonders, and attempts, to draw upon the abyss to weaken those deific. Suppression was hence discovered. The Rite of Suppression requires at least [2] Abyssal Knights to slew forth [10] miasma each unto a bound deific being or participant in a deific magic, temporarily warping and halting their capacity for practicing the art.

 

At base, this rite prevents one the captured deific magic user from casting for [2] OOC days, with every other abyssal knight assisting adding [1] further day to the Suppressed period, to a maximum of [4] OOC days total. Suppression leaves tainted marks almost like chain-scars across the victim’s form until the suppression ends, only cleansable by [T5] holy/deific healing methods.

꩜ The rite may be performed upon [1] restrained user of deific magics. The captured user finds their body covered with chain-like scars which gleam a soft blackened hue which last for [2] OOC days. These brands restrain their magic- leaving them incapable of casting aengudaemonic or deific magics whatsoever until those scars are purged by a [T5] holy or deific cleansing magic.

꩜ For every other Abyssal Knight joining within the ritual, it adds [1] further day to the total time suppressed, to a maximum of [4] total OOC days, with [4] total Abyssal Knights.

 

Rite of Desecration - [3+ Knights] [30-90 Miasma] - [T3]

To bring a fragment unto a whole. The mortal lands are easily susceptible to the alteration from foreign powers- and the abyssal blightening is no exception. To perform the Rite of Desecration is to warp; the landscape within the radius morphs into a desolate, barren wasteland not unlike the Abyss itself. Upon a congregation of at least [3] Abyssal Knights slewing at least [30] miasma into terrain, it warps a [25x25] region of land to this desecrated form. For every [30] miasma further, the range expands to [50x50] and [75x75] successively- capping out at so unless approval is given by the ST or RO, or if it encircles a lair.

 

Slews of grass are replaced with naught but tumor-ridden, hue-drained substance, warped trees lose their form of leaves and twist and coil endlessly, whilst sands and stones crevice and shatter. The sky glooms down unto perpetual darkness within the Desecrated region, with no fauna nor flora living left remnant. No whispers come forth from the minds of druids, as too is the terrain entrapped unto utter silence by all means. The minds of the many are flooded with despair and paranoia.

꩜ The Rite of Desecration requires at least [3] Abyssal Knights and [30] counts of miasma, with at least [8] well-written emotes.

꩜ The rite may be performed upon any sector of land untainted and unaltered by other magics. The lands slowly warp over the course of the ritual’s casting, spanning a [25x25] area of it to bear a desecrated state.

꩜ For every [1] further knight and [30] additional miasma fed into it, the range increases to [50x50] and [75x75] respectively if that count is applied again.

꩜ The Rite of Desecration requires a region-message to be created by ST when created, covering the area and changing the depiction of the lands to be akin to the desecrated norm.

꩜ Players may not desecrate land without RO consent if within nations, or ST approval if outside of claimed tiles.

꩜ The desecrated land cannot be utilized combatively in any way, neither may the corruption of it be used to harm players who pass within it. Yet by the same sense, players cannot assume by default it is safe to traverse within, given the warped and twisted state it bears.

꩜ Unless a Megalith is formed within these lands, the desecration slowly reverts over the course of [1] OOC week.

 

Rite of Acclimation - [5 Knights] [100 Miasma] - [T4]

Morion is a powerful tool to all upon its own- yet its capacity to resonate with the Abyss may be harnessed by those whom bear Miasma. A ritualistic act of binding a figment of morion unto one’s own permitting it to be forged anew- hewn unto a Morion Vessel through the very rite of Acclimation.

 

Through this rite, a congregation of [5] abyssal knights may assist one of them to forge a Morion Vessel out of an object they already bear- funneling over [100] counts of miasma within it whilst before a Megalith. Requiring an object made of at least [3] ingots worth of Miasma as the base to craft, whilst augmenting it with the copious forms of Miasma.

Rite of the Megalith- [3 Knights] [80 Miasma] - [T4]

Monoliths are temporary, fleeting things. Their forms are cripplingly weak, easily shattered by blunt and light weaponry alike, and have shorter lifespans than even the insects which fly in the air. To consecrate a structure greater than that all is to create a Monolith which can still be exalted through, a permanent structure which stays locked in place until destruction- a Megalith. And thus the Rite of the Megalith was formed.

 

Requiring [3] Abyssal Knights to outright slew over [80] units of miasma into a colossal stone-hewn structure in the shape of a monolith, it creates forth a Megalith- taking up one of the maximum Monolith slots of the Abyssal Knight leading it, as it is bound to it. These follow all aspects listed here:

     ✶ Megaliths: Megaliths function as permanent Monoliths for the purpose of all combative casting, lest for the exception that they do not naturally decay and must be broken. Megaliths bear the form of an obelisk, and the dimensions must be contained within a [5x5x17] meter zone. Megaliths may be broken in either [6] blunt strikes or [8] bladed strikes. Monolithic Arts cast via these have double the radius for their cast bursts. Megaliths must be on stable ground to be consolidated- they cannot form atop sand, leaves, water, and so on. They are bound to whomever leads the ritual, and only that Abyssal Knight may cast via them.

 

REDLINES:

꩜ The Rite of the Megalith requires at least [3] Abyssal Knights and [80] counts of miasma, with at least [6] well-written emotes.

꩜ The abyssal knight leading the ritual binds the Megalith to themselves- taking up one of their maximum slots of Monoliths indefinitely until broken. The Megalith created bears the size of a [5x5x17] area, and is more resilient than mundane Monoliths- capable of tanking up to [6] blunt strikes or [8] bladed strikes until shattered. Monolithic Arts channeled through these bear twice the radius for their casting.

꩜ If a Megalith owned by an abyssal knight is shattered, they may not create nor assist in the creation of another for [2] OOC weeks.

꩜ Megaliths may not be moved by Perambulate.

꩜ The rite may only be performed within lands warped by the Rite of Desecration, forming a ‘stronghold’ within the desecrated land. The formed Megalith is tied to the desecration, preventing the land from slowly reverting its form. That is to say, that the desecration within the lands is indefinite and may only be undone by destroying a Megalith.

 

Rite of the Aeons - [??? Knights] [?? Miasma] - [T5]

We all die. The goal isn't to live forever. It’s to create something that will. The purpose of the Abyssal Knights lasts eternal, even though those perpetual too, know their end is a reality ever-approaching. To forge, to create something to last aeons, perhaps, is the truest of means to do so. Thus the Rite of the Aeons was determined. A grouping may collect, slewing forth whatever miasma they wish forth in any ilk of rite- and thusly to create something true.

 

The Rite of the Aeons may be used to forge a unique Morion Vessel, create a structure, form a unique spell that may be taught from one to another, to even creating a unique ilk of Monolith.

꩜ The Rite of the Aeons allows Abyssal Knights to create MArt(s), with a freeform ritual with however many Abyssal Knights and counts of miasma are best fit. These MArts may only be created in front of Megaliths.

ELEVATION & EXPATRIATION

RITE OF ELEVATION

Mortality is feeble. To enchain another within the Fell Path and set them upon the pathway to creation is to invoke the Rite of Elevation, the eons-old process to invoke another within the state of pseudomortality. Yet the process to invoke so is no mere one of simplicity- it firstly requires one to be granted a Takel, an antithetical spark which lingers within a descendant, and thusly begins their descent down the Fell Path.

 

     ተ Takel: A Takel is a shrapnel of miasma embedded within a mortal whom aspires to become an Abyssal Knight. The shrapnel warps their soul, rendering them unable to draw upon any magics they bear and makes their body susceptible to that which harms tainted souls. By lingering within the body of the aspirant, it carries with it a sole antithetical task; to slowly accumulate miasma within their body by supping and tainting lifeforce from others. Aspirants bearing a Takel gain access to a lesser form of the Invocation ‘Harvesting’- yet may only sap [5] counts of miasma at a time with it; to garner enough within them to not only ascend yet to prove their worth, an aspirant must accumulate [35] counts of it within their own form. This task must be brought to fruition to proceed unto the Rite of Elevation- and thus the creation of an Abyssal Knight.

 

A Takel may only be created by one whom bears a Morion Vessel- able to best compress miasma down into this crystalline form embedded upon a mortal. 

 

If an aspirant both bears a Takel and has accumulated enough miasma of their own accord, the Rite of Elevation may be performed, slewing forth miasma into an aspirant, as their form volatilely shifts. Becoming an Abyssal Knight requires a valid Creature Application which may be submitted once the aspirant completes all of their trials. Upon its acceptance, they will be able to roleplay the creature and its magic in alignment with the mechanics, lore, and progression listed below. Any mortal descendant is capable of becoming an Abyssal Knight, requiring that they be turned directly by another Abyssal Knight whom has been taught the Rite of Elevation, which would be listed on their Creature Application. Only [3] Abyssal Knights CAs can be made every [3] months by a single individual with the Rite of Elevation, with a slot refreshing [3] months after the last was made.

꩜ Knowledge of the Rite of Elevation must be listed upon the CA; this effectively means having this is the ‘TA’ for this CA. The teaching of the Rite of Elevation is rather freeform, but the only requirement is that it must be taught one-to-one rather than reading information off a scroll or booklet.

꩜ Takels may only be created by those whom bear a Morion Vessel.

꩜ A Takel is signified by an ST signed item which bears is granted to the individual. Physically, it appears as a crystalline black coagulation of miasma at the nape of the aspirant’s neck.

꩜ The trial to accumulate miasma within themselves that a mortal must undergo prior to becoming an Abyssal Knight is mandatory and may not be evaded. This is an enforced roleplay mechanic that may not be ignored.

꩜ Anyone found circumventing the trial by assisting an aspirant OOCly or IRPly with gathering miasma will have their TA revoked, alongside the student having their CA revoked. These trials are something to overcome, rather than an easy task. Should it be suspected that someone has done this for the sake nepotism, this can be reported to the ST - and the ritual would not transform the aspirant, rather overtaking their form with Miasma, irrevocably Hard-PKing them.

꩜ Bearing a Takel permits an aspirant to perform a lesser form of Harvesting, albiet for the sole difference that it may only permit them to sap [5] counts of miasma at a time, stored within their Takel.

꩜ Once an aspirant has accumulated [35] counts of miasma, gathered of their own accord- an Abyssal Knight knowing the Rite of Elevation may complete it, ascending the aspirant into an Abyssal Knight.

 

 

RITE OF EXPATRIATION

One who has strayed too far must be culled. The Rite of Expatriation is the most critical rite a knight can bear, being the sole thing needed to cull another from the quasi-mortality they bear, permitting them to embrace true-death. The process requires [3] knights to work in tandem, led by a [T5] Abyssal Knight who both knows the ritual, and bears a Morion Vessel.

 

Over the course of [3] emotes, the three funnel their miasma within the Morion Vessel, overflowing the item with it- before impacting it within the Abyssal Knight who is deemed to be Expatriated. Instantly, their body will find itself beyond-overlocked with miasma, as it begins to break down from the inside- eviscerating them within seconds. However, their soul finds itself sealed and locked within the Morion Vessel used to annihilate it, rendering the Vessel permanently inert.

 

If an Abyssal Knight sacrifices their vessel to perform the Rite of Expatriation, they cannot create a new one for [1] OOC month, no matter what. Morion Vessels which are consumed in this way find the loose-sentience of the knight within it; once per day, they may commune and talk to the dead pseudomortal beings of time’s past for advice, guidance or aid by weaving miasma within the expended Vessel.

Solely the Abyssal Knight leading it needs to know the ritual, the two assisting them do not need to know it before participating, yet participating counts as teaching from so. The teaching of the Rite of Elevation is rather freeform, but the only requirement is that it must be either taught one-to-one or participated within to learn, rather than reading information off a scroll or booklet.

꩜ Upon forcefully using the Rite of Expatriation, it irrevocably PK’s the Abyssal Knight it was used upon, funneling the remnants of their consciousness and Miasma within the Morion Vessel sacrificed. If one participates in this ritual, they cannot make another Morion vessel for [1] OOC month.

꩜ The Morion Vessel sacrificed goes inert, inable to do anything further than mundane Morion can- with exception that it now bears what remnant memory of the Abyssal Knight.

꩜ To commune with a knight within an inert Vessel, the player of the PK’d character must give OOC consent, and will be roleplayed by them. This can be any ilk of conversation.

꩜ Any information pertaining to their death such as who killed them cannot be disclosed unless all parties present in their death gives explicit OOC consent to the information being shared. This conversation cannot be used to learn magic, alchemy, feats, etc, unless ST gives direct permission.

 

 

 

 

MORION VESSELS

PACTFORGED RELICS

 

Morion; the blighted material of the Abyss. Favoured by Abyssal Knights and even the undeaths of the world- Morion bears properties that empower them all. Yet perhaps, Morion bears a crucial link to Abyssal Knights, bearing the properties to bind unto their own miasma, forming a vessel that takes upon one of three forms.

 

𐃉 Morion Vessels: Morion Vessels are powerful items of Morion, flooded by an Abyssal Knight’s miasma. Created by the Rite of Acclimation, they bear alternate effects on top of Morion’s core abilities, and are crucial to many aspects of Abyssal Knights. Artefacts of immense import for the rites required not only to connect another to the Fell Path yet furthermore required to even cull and dismantle those from it, Morion Vessel's are coveted by both Abyssal Knights and even greater entities of the abyss itself. These require to be made of at least [3] ingots’ worth of Morion each, and come in three subcategories: Blade, Bastion, and Barricade.

     ✶ Blade: Swords and other bladed-weapons forged of this ilk fall under this subcategory.

     ✶ Bastion: Armours and other platings forged of this ilk fall under this subcategory.

     ✶ Barricade: Shields and other blockades forged of this ilk fall under this subcategory.

An Abyssal Knight may solely bear [1] Morion Vessel at a time. These can be unsummoned and resummoned as per Morion lore. It should be noted that the destruction of these causes them to be unrecallable for [1] OOC day, after which it can be summoned forth again. A Morion Vessel is bound per–player, and if said Abyssal Knight perishes, their mind is sealed unto their Vessel- mentally bound within, and making it  no more useful than a mundane piece of Morion. Armaments made of Morion have effects varying upon their subtype as follows, which may be activated over [1] emote of channeling the Vessel whilst already connected.

 

[Compression] - Blades can slew forth [15] counts of Miasma into their weapon, compressing and augmenting the blows dealt by it to be equivalent to peak-orcish strength, until the end of combat.

[Expansion] - Bastions can slew forth [15] counts of Miasma into their piece of armor, causing it to ripple and morph into a full suit of heavy platemail which scarcely physically hinders the body's movement.

[Dominion] - Barricades can slew forth [15] counts of Miasma into their shield, augmenting the vessel to bear forth the physical durability of argentum, whilst becoming functionally weightless from the clasp of the abyssal knight.

 

Morion Vessels bear a sickening sensation to them upon being touched or viewed by other beings than the one whom bound them- they cannot be clasped by others without that sensation forcing them to drop it. The effects of utilizing a Morion Vessel's ability lasts until combat ends, or for [3] OOC hours non-combatively. These artifacts are oft augmented further by the usage of the Rite of the Aeons.

꩜ Morion vessels must be forged of at least [3] ingots of Morion. When forged, there needs to be an SREQ made, with the Morion Vessel stating which player it is bound to.

꩜ Morion Vessels take [15] counts of miasma to activate their inherent ability, depending on the subtype; this takes one full action to do.

꩜ Morion Vessels’ abilities last only until the end of combat, or for [3] OOC hours if triggered out of combat.

꩜ These may be summoned and dispelled over [1] emote of focus, in similar means to the base Morion lore piece. If destroyed, they recollect within the Abyssal Knight’s arsenal after [1] OOC day.

꩜ Compression augments all strikes done by the blade to be of peak-orcish strength. If one already is an orc, this has no effect, other than maintaining this strength even whilst tired.

꩜ Expansion causes the Morion to expand into a full set of Morion plate, which bears no physical weight upon them, permitting them to sprint and move as if they wore no armor.

꩜ Barricade causes the Morion shield to become as resilient as argentum, and functionally weightless to the Abyssal Knight’s clasp- yet does not change the sharpness nor melting points of it.

꩜ If a Morion Vessel is expended within the Rite of Expatriation, the vessel loses all properties other than that of mundane Morion, and must be re-signed stating which Abyssal Knight it had consumed.

 

 

 

 

PURPOSE

 

There is a nuance in pseudomortality, one unmistakably cruel and evil- yet at the same time lamenting. This lore exists to fill a niche which has long-since gone unfilled, with the death of wraiths and resonant knights years ago. These have been a staple of LotC’s worldbuilding for a vast time, yet have been trapped in a state of limbo ever since the loregames. With what current undergoing have occurred within Aevos’ storyline so far, these finally have a chance to become a part of LotC’s world once more, an aspect of the Abyss present that is unique and novel.
