You are being fed INFORMATION directly from the DEMONS. 30% of your friends have a dark magic or are a dark creature

This is insane hypocrisy to hear from you, man.

No beef but I made a joke rather than report the information to staff? Looking back I'm unhappy with how I was personally back in Cnor but the only person's DMs I was 'OOCing' it was one individual trying to explain to him how I had a bunch load of people unhappy with Cnor and that they all related to a certain player, I tried to reach out to said player, they didn't want my help, people involved didn't want me to tell names because they didn't wanna deal with them and eventually it lead to me leaving Celia'nor rather than trying engage with it further. But again this just highlights my point, instead of taking the correct action, you just took matters into your own hands lol, you could have DMed me or reported whatever you thought was an issue to staff and let them handle it but instead decided to say an entire magic group deserves to be meta gamed over one individual, joke or otherwise, but the prior conversation indicated to me you weren't. The only reason I included the screenshot was because you said it in OOC, and was an example to me of what was discussed in which OOC popularity, where you can seemingly get away with breaking the rules if you have enough or the right people backing you. The main reason your comment irked me so much was because of the conversation that was in OOC chat awhile back during the Problem Player post where you lamented the fact you'd had issues with people calling you out for issues of past Ferry Men, given they've had them, I think it is fair enough that it annoyed but seeing you make that comment makes you come across as a complete hypocrite to me. I'm not really going to say anything more because I don't want it to become tic for tac but if you want to have an actual conversation then hit me up on DMs than vaguely gesturing that I've been OOCing when the whole topics I'd discussed in DMs were unfortunately influenced by what appears to be someone at some point OOCly lying.

Listen bro as I said I was joking when I said that, I don't think ur a crazy oocer or anything and people who actually operate with the MO of constant evil metagaming and shitty narrative are more clandestine about it and arent meming about it in ooc. sorry bro i took the werewolf pill. You should just not use me as the example of this server culture it saddens me

In some regards I'll agree and disagree, to me alot of the issues I think that happen on LotC are born from small things, and eventually end up to exploding. I've seen constantly what could be considered 'minor' jokes, incidents, incorrect handling of situations leading to a boiling point in which a player just blows up over the fact. The whole concept of Roleplay relies on cooperation and it just feels like little of it occurs and ends up becoming OOC games of trying to get people removed over OOC dislike and grievances rather than if they're actually a problem player. There is just a weird intersect with OOC and IRP because a lot of those Cnor issues are just in my eyes born of the fact two players weren't able to cooperate OOCly and OOC mis/information which affected RP and you can't really deal with OOC via IRP, which is another thing I hope gets touched on outside of missive forum posting.

I cannot tell you how much I hate forum-based everything. It can be nice when you want to publish something that is meant to be an entire document, sure. But when I have poured hours of my time into the server, a community, existing somewhere for a consistent amount of time as one character, only to be consistently outdone by groups that post on the forums? I hate the idea of forum recruitment, unless you are writing a piece meant to be a 'poster' you are pinning up on signs in game. I rarely ever checked the forums until the past few years, and found it to be one of the only ways to access consistent rp. I want to play minecraft, and not have to read google document essays in order to have a say in any sort of story. I hate writing replies to posts with characters talking to themselves to "seem active", like I have been advised to do by other players. Sometimes it feels like conflicts of any sort turn to intense OOC drama, because of the consistent information-sharing entirely out of character or on the forums. If there is a good way to shift the culture back PLEASE I hope it works.

I'm not an expert on jack. Please don't try to debate me these are just my feelings. :,)

If I want to win a war, my best bet is to attack from the forums first and the server second. So long as my friends can make better memes than the other guy depicting his group as a bunch of losers and my group as a bunch of chads, more will want to join me than him... So long as they don't outrep me first.

this is def an older thing

destroying enemy morale with tactical memes and upvotes was a big thing since at least vailor, possibly earlier. it probably peaked in the axios coalition war if anything

the only difference is that we generally also got actual warclaims where u could reset morale, whereas now the vibes cause one side or both to just back out. that particular change was more of a war of 2 emperors thing than a discord thing though

As this is all about the forums and website in general, I will try to provide some thoughts and possible solutions from both a technical and a design standpoint.

Problems:

Over-emphasis on Forum Popularity:

The current reputation system seems to inadvertently encourage popularity contests where posts and replies are rated in the amount of upvotes they receive rather than by their content or relevance to a subject.

Poor Differentiation between IC and OOC:

This has caused metagaming and toxicity in the mixing of in-character and out-of-character interactions in forums, which affects the premium roleplay experience that we are striving for.

Less In-Game Interaction:

The ease and convenience of the forum roleplay, in many ways, have replaced meaningful in-game interactions, thus lessening the richness of the live roleplay.

Proposed Solutions:

Revision to Reputation System:

Hide Reputation on IC Posts. We could change the forum settings so that reputation points/upvotes won't appear on IC posts. It takes away some of the exclusions based on popularity, and it allows people to not be worried about the likes of his/her post.

Improving the Segregation between IC/OOC:

Make it easier to clearly differentiate between IC and OOC areas on the forums, both through the visual "look" of each sub-forum, but also with clear guidelines at the top or pinned, to remind users how they are to act in each area.

More Advanced Moderation Tools:

Better reporting tools that would easily facilitate users flagging posts that clearly cross over the lines of IC/OOC or contain metagaming content. While also providing moderators with better analytics to surface problematic trends faster and enable them to act on those as quickly as possible. This could also be done in a way where the person flagging a post will have to get a response to their report, so that it doesn't just appear to vanish into the void.

Incentivizing In-Game Roleplay:

Have the forum be more integrated with in-game notifications and forum calendars, so that it may remind players and encourage them to take part in live events, instead of discord servers having to shout out when in-game events might take place. Secondly you could also have in-game rewards or recognition in the form of awards or medals for participating in key in-game roleplay activities, essentially replacing the forum reputation for IC interaction, with a form of award system that rewards people for actively engaging in in-game live events.

I really like the point about taking 'forum rep out of the RP equation.' By changing the way we display and make use of reputation metrics, the attention will shift back toward actual roleplay and not toward OOC popularity.

I fully recognize that technology in and of itself cannot solve cultural and behavioral community issues. However, with some planning and foresight in how we design our forum, we can slowly begin to create more positive interactions and make it easier for players to engage in IC roleplay.

I would like to hear from you and other people about the proposed changes. Collaboration and transparency of the Tech Team with the players will be important in building an environment where "fun" is an experience that is a given. Please, for more ideas and/or concerns, do not hesitate to post them.

i like the recent topics :3

every so often i'll go and look through the recent pages just to see what people are up to

you just need to know how to not meta and it's fine

remove rep though (it makes me nervous to interact with certain things)

Force people to use already established IC ways to send messages and make all announcements in discords meta game outside of town bells/pings for groupactivities.

if this happens we'd need an aviary cooldown reduction i think

so many problems would be solved if the cooldown was 1-3 minutes instead of five

part of why i've made certain things forum posts is because i did not want to dedicate the amount of time to individually send every person involved a letter!! i did not want to just stand by an aviary and hope the bird doesn't get stuck for 30+ minutes

I'm from that generation, while on here I am known as a ruthless hacker, doxer and someone who has gotten banned 10++ times for infractions, most of it is to entertain people and make them laugh. In real life, I am the first one to pour tears when a show hits me hard, buy flowers to people, invite people over and be generally kind with other human beings, thanks to the administration, I've been allowed to show that side of me and get unbanned everytime but yeah

I've always wanted there to be a way to send large quantities of aviary letters all at once. Ideally you should be able to use aviary letters as a replacement for discord notifications or forum posts for communication. There should be a way to send letters to everyone in a realm or region or family or whatever grouping you wish all at once, like a sort of "Aviary Group" or something.

Just like how you can send OOC messages to all of your friends with /friend broadcast, but with in-character letters to everyone in some other group you can sign up to join.

People could find a way to spam it for whatever rewards it offers (i.e finding a way to mass-produce "key in-game roleplay activities" just for rewards) so I'm not in favor of this. Ideally people attend in-game roleplay events for the ROLEPLAY and not for rewards.

Maybe for events that staff control (like big ST eventlines) there could be something, idk.

First thing I thought reading this thread. Everything this guy is complaining about was 100x worse during the "Skype and Teamspeak" era.
