I like it, but it needs more events and maybe a few more islands, it's getting really crowded!

Good and bad at the same time. Here are le pros and cons: Ignore the mess

PROS

CONS

Can play old characters again.

Can no longer have Asulonian character relations

Nice, enclosed space

Forced mob density disallowing easy foot travel to my island

Possible ancestor roleplay for post-Asulon members

Lack of players, due to temporary map

Lack of original Aegisian leaders still on the server

Lack of Aegisian villains still on the server

Lack of dispersity about the small space, in favor of a condensation of players in one spot

My Hanseti Champ, Segari, had died fighting in the nether before the move.

Firali, well he was born later in Asulon.

Segari was by far my favorite character but, as much as I'd like to bring him back his days are over. I took the risk of death, he died long ago. I also didn't role play the move in any part of Firali's bio. So for me making a character without a bio then leaving him unfinished and to call him missing, in my book is kinda "Half ass'd." I don't want to sound negative but, Andrew don't like.

I don't like the fact that there is no regions. It's hard to look at all those cobblestone houses. I think It's allright to build where ever you want, you just have to make the build look just a little bit pretty.

I do not like the fact that greifers come to my house, take my weed, and leaves. Even though they replant the seeds, it is still greifing, of sorts.

What I do like though is that, the new map brings the community closer together, by making us speak with eachother, over teamspeak or/and ingame.

What, you're growing weed? Can I come over? In all seriousness if you are an Alchemist on the temp map you're gonna have a bad time.

My opinion? I am absolutely loving the temporary sever! Let my state my experience.

I am currently playing Corlette Faintree, who is an ancestor of my main character Arabella. After some exploring, she finally settle by woodland area between the foothills of a volcano and a coastal marsh after getting permission from Dawn, who more or less controlled that area. Corlette cleared the forest and constructed a farmhouse and began on a small wheat farm by a nearby river. She noticed some sheep in a local march and domesticated them, using the wool for building construction and selling excess wool for minas or other goods. Soon her farm began to grow from a steady income and expanded her farm operations which includes:

  • Diverting water from a local spring to irrigate more crops and diversify her crops (potatoes, carrots, melons, and pumpkins).
  • Importing cattle from another island and breeding them. Selling the leather and meat as well as wool from her sheep. Occasionally sells breeding pairs of cattle to nearby farmers.
  • Hiring guards to protect the farm from monsters(including Ghast and sometimes pigmen), bandits, and thieves who try to steal or destroy the farm
  • Hiring farm hands to gather the crops, shear sheep, or cull cattle as well as some odd jobs around the farm.
  • Investing in infrastructure. This includes building animal pens, storage, a chicken coop(with chickens!) and windmill which is under progress.
  • Engage in trade and/or bartering very often. Often selling crops, fruits, wool, leather, meat, and live animals in exchange for minas, lumber, cobble, seeds, iron tools, shears, iron ingots, and gold.
  • The large farm gathers lots of RP, bringing in players who are often just searching for food and/ or wish to trade for livestock products. Also brings in those who desire to find a place to live in and/or work on the farm for pay.

And for you complaining about staving, I would encourage you barter with other players for food as I see small farms dot all over the place and people are bound to have food. Or just take crops from unprotected farms and replant the seed if your in dire need of food (be courteous!). Particularly at Corlette's farm as she is willing to trade ample amounts of food in exchange for minas and other good. Also, she sells items cheap, you can buy four loaves of bread for one mina! You can also steal crops from her farm due to lack of perms but you will be attacked on sight by guards so I wouldn't recommend it, they already turned away some would-be thieves. Do replant the seeds if successful :P

For those complaining about the lack of animal... well that be a consequence of players over hunting the limited animals on the map, something that happens in the real world. Nature can only provide so many animals. I just RP that most wild animals have been hunted to extinction.

Anyway, I know my experience is probably atypical of that of most players but it is just I thought I leave my experience as an example for others. I wasn't expecting much with Corlette but after several days, I am quite please with the current outcome. I am currently engaging in a dynamic farm-based roleplay in which my character realistically manages a successful farm and has become a place that promotes roleplay by bringing people to work on the field for pay or rent, engage in trade and barter (bringing trade even as far from people from other islands), and draws in thieves and bandits who wish to steals to feed themselves or plunder the farm for wealth.

While I understand that is will only be only a temporary map, I will have to say this map will probably be one of my most enjoyable experience on the server. I believe most of my experience can be owed to the degree of freedom enjoyed by the map, people staying in character (for the most part), and the small map size which consolidates the players and keeps them from spreading out too far, encouraging roleplay. Anyway, that is all I have to say about the temp map. Hopefully this will give community some ideas about how to make the best of the map temp (as well as their food problems) as well as give the staff insight of what I, one of many players, particularly enjoyed from this experience.

I have to say that it has been really fun living next to you on my high elf! Your farm definitely is a rp-hub, I hope you continue to play.

On that note, I would like to completely agree with you. This has been the most fun I've had on the server; it's just fun to have complete freedom to build while also having so many active neighbors and fun RP to engage in. I definitely understand the problems people have with it though, but I personally think the issues are worth the benefits.

Anyway, I wish there was a seperate forum for discussion and roleplay concerning the islands.

I feel that the temp map is sort of like a breath of fresh air. I like being able to go out, start a farm, build a house, and maybe even create a town without having to go hundreds of blocks away from the spawn to find areas that are not protected and have no existing construction. But this does make the map feel slightly like just any old free-build server. I walk down the beach and see unfinished houses, random pieces of wood scattered everywhere and general eyesores. Some aspects have improved, but it still needs work.

This map is.... interesting, to say the least. For Asulonians who applied after Aegis (like me), though, it's a little jarring. I'm fortunate enough to have my character's bio set in Aegis, and I've gotten the chance to see how he would have turned out if things were different.

The map itself feels really small. You could easily touch both limits of the map in a boat if you just sailed in one direction for a minute or two. What's more, a good chunk of the map is open waters. Nothing much to see, making it feel even more barren...

RPing opportunities are much more easier to come by, though. With everyone crammed in so close together, you're bound to have some neighbors to talk to. New arrivals could just swim a short distance to get to a town, rather than walking miles on end for the nearest settlement. Too bad I chose to build on a small island all by my lonesome, but that's my fault.

The only real problem I have is the feel of the RPing here. Since this is an alternate timeline, when 2.5 comes around, all our character's experiences would be lost, just like that. The whole thing feels pointless. Why would I want to RP with people when I can't acknowledge their existence in the future? I guess this may be the reason why some people aren't taking their RP very seriously. There are no IC consequences whatsoever, with barely any character development at all.

Still, I'm enjoying myself. It's not the ideal map, but it's better than nothing, and I'm thankful for it. I'd like to know if I could play as my Asulonian character, though, and just tweak his/her bio to fit the timeline? It's technically a new character, it won't affect anything later in the future, and it would give me a chance to see how he/she will develop under certain circumstances.

Being new to the server I have found this map a nice way to learn how to play. It gives ample opportunity to see the types of places that exist, though I realize not all of these are possible to display on such a small map, as well as meet new people. The only downside that effects me is the lack of space to build, but even that is not a hug issue for me.

::The map itself physically I enjoy, I enjoy the freedom and lack of clutter. However the concept of it being an alternate timeline I don't quite enjoy. The reason for such is it feels as if everything I do is pointless, it doesn't do anything for my character progression. It is interesting to be able to talk to people of that timeline, but yet still I can't quite get into it because I can't really make my character more complex and interesting.

I do like this map a lot, it allows everyone to start rather fresh,

and it lets most people stand on the same ground for a while.

The idea is great, and as most, the only concern I have is that this

all never really happened. It would be nice if this was somewhere in-between

the move from Aegis to Asulon and we could use this for the future. :)

I to be honest am rather fond of the temp server, it feels more "Relaxed", as compared to normal Asulon rp, and i find it hilarious to see a bunch of the characters i already know as kids, and teens.

I like how we have much more freedom. It feels kind of like Aegis in the way that it's less restricted. The major problem with the temp server though, is that all of the RP we do in it won't matter anymore when we go to 2.5 and so it feels pointless.

Personally, I do not like the lack of protection due to the fact I have been stolen from, greifed, and ect aswell as landscarring, excessive strip mining, floating trees, and other such things. But! I realise this is a temporary server and feel the staff are trying their hardest to prevent such matters. I dislike it, but still am greatfull for the staff's efforts.
