Guest Jhonen Share Posted January 5, 2013 Well my main annoyance with all this is the disregard of halfling lore, established and accepted lore. It states in many places that halflings are no longer greedy through hundreds of years of breeding with a halfling mother and a halfling father. Sure we usually have large stores of wheat, ale, and other things like that but greed would imply we would need to change how giving we are. We often hold festivals and give away bread, ale, and pipes to any who need it. Now recently due to some player greed these things have changed slightly leading to the hoarding of items but in our lore it states that we lost our greed long ago. In addition to this it states in the halfling guide that is a sticky on our forum role-play section that we live longer than humans, up to 200 hundred years old in exceptional cases. Honestly it seems like this has steam-rolled a lot of things that are already in place to deter people from using half-breeds as an escape from certain limitations but that is truly no reason to stamp out what has been in place for a long time. We are short, barely able to fight, unarmoured, often picked on, and most of all a unique and awesome role-play group and I will not sit around and see it disregarded. Why should we be forced to suddenly be greedy? So more members can lock their doors and chests and hoard items? Shouldn't we be focusing on role-playing our festivals and kindness rather than locking away items? It really seems to bother me what is happening because I love our role-play and community, the halflings, and I have seen it change a lot in some not so great ways. Overall I think this is more damaging than good and a lot of these inconsistencies should be addressed before we get called out for role-playing how our lore has dictated we should. Here is a link to "A History of Halflings" by Petyr which he posted in the doc after the wiki had been re-done. It states a lot of our history and if you take the time to read it you will see how much it contradicts this. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Z8GNrJgN81JGyJ76oOjjA8IagCIGrDhI4CiHDDsGjYw/edit#heading=h.1gtldkxmejg1
Casamir 42 Share Posted January 5, 2013 Edit: Can someone, someone proper with the authority to tell me this and it be true, tell me exactly how many IC years have gone by since the end of Aegis, to the current in game date. With the current accepted time system, this way I know just how old I am. Again I ask for Clarification on this, so I know whether or not my character turns to dust. Because no matter what you guys say "No one needs to die" Obviously these rules have been clarified due to people's issues with longer lived characters (when they have no right living so long ) so it's a simple fact if my character would be dead, he's going to suddenly die, as I'd be a bad player (breaking lore, rules, ect shame on me) if I continued to play him another day after such clarification. After all, I can just re-roll a whole new character, create an entirely new folder full of skins for him, and enjoy him for a year.
Alan 1815 Author Share Posted January 5, 2013 -snip- We have already made minor exceptions for the Aldunians and Silverblades, due to their specific lore and pure lineage, and seeing as the Halflings fall into that similarly, we can easily make another for them as well. Halflings already lead relatively short lives if I'm not mistaken, so that is not an issue. Seeing as the Halflings have dated back centuries, it is possible that they have made the most of the curse in their own way, hoarding their own personal things such as food and competing for the "shiniest shovel" if I remember correctly, but still opening up to others and sharing. I'm not too familiar with the dwarves, but I'm pretty sure that they don't even let their greed completely take them over, as they are still open to trade and the occasional gift. Anyways, if you have any questions or if you still aren't pleased, feel free to shoot me a PM and we can work something out. EDIT: Also, we allowed Aldunians to live up to around 180, as that is not far off from the 150 that we are OK with Humans living up to, so 200 isn't that bad either although it may need discussing. CountJuno88 230 Share Posted January 5, 2013 As it stands now, nothing changes for the Halflings. We are currently in the process of getting everything in the Wiki sorted, but we are only human and there are only so many of us and we are cursed with short lives. (chuckles) You may continue to RP as you have been, good Halflings. Stuff your pantries, smoke your good tabac, and hoard away your secrets to throwing the best party in the hill. Besides, Halflings shouldn't have a problem living a long time being that the only thing Halflings might suffer from is high cholesterol. Carry on, good sirs and madame's! Kanrath 190 Share Posted January 8, 2013 The dwarves greed tends to come in the form of wanting to take the riches from the earth for their own, thus the mining addiction they often seem to suffer from. Other then that I have seen some limited cases where their greed is directed at something or someone else.

You're saying that nothing changes for halflings, does this also apply to the maximum age, in one of Petyr's posts he wrote that halfling live up to 140-200 years. ski_king3 0 Share Posted March 3, 2013 I don't see the point in this... If the lore is unclear, and people have been RP'ing half breeds since the server started as having a mix of both curses and blessings, why not just go with it. The lore is definitely ambiguous enough that it could be justified for a character to have "weakened" gifts and curses. I realize this is to stop characters which will live forever for their elven blood and be incredibly fertile due to their human blood, and I think nobody has issues with that. Simply, I think people want to keep their characters who follow all gifts and curses, but simply maintain that they are weaker with diluted blood.
