A Clarification On Half Breeds

Recently, there’s been a lot of discussion regarding half breeds and how they are affected by the curse. We've been explaining this to a lot of people, but we realize that there is no official lore clarifying the question. For this reason, the post is being made now.

Half breeds, which are a cross between members of different races, receive the entirety of the curse of all races that they are affiliated with. For instance, the son of a human and an elf would be both short lived and have a poor fertility rate, while the son of a halfling (human/dwarf half breed) and an elf would be short lived, have a poor fertility rate AND would be short and greedy.

Now for the reasoning. When the four brothers were cursed, the curse was placed on all of their descendants. For instance, even if a character only has 5% elven blood, the presence of an elf somewhere in their lineage makes them a descendant of Malin, which also means that they receive the elven curse.

Although many people believe that cross breeds receive a portion of the curse based on their lineage, such as someone who is half human only being half affected by the human curse, this is incorrect. The ancient lore, as mentioned, refers the curse to all descendants of the brothers, no matter how loosely affiliated the descendant may be.

Others may claim that the blessings bestowed upon the races are also passed down to half breeds, which is true. However, they also usually say that the blessing counteracts the curse, which is incorrect. Remember, the Aenguls and Daemons were not able to lessen the curses at all, they were only able to bless the races with attributes that would make up for what they lost, so their blessing is not more powerful than the curse itself. For instance, if a human (cursed with short life) and an elf (blessed with long life) have a child, the curse and blessing do not balance and allow for a “medium” life, but instead the curse overpowers the blessing and the child remains short lived. The best reference that can be made is to the science of genetics, where the curse might be the “dominant trait”, while the blessing is a “recessive trait”.

In the end, it is not a benefit to be a half breed, although acting out multiple curses may bring about some interesting roleplay. This is not meant to punish those who are half breeds, it is merely a clarification of how they work, although hopefully this clarification will prevent players from becoming a half breed as an excuse to escape the curses.

If you feel as if your character is unfairly affected by this clarification, feel free to PM me and we can work something out that suits the lore.

Thank you so much for the clarification, this'll make the concept of half breeds a lot easier to understand, and roleplay well.

Curious, how does this affect people like the Adunians, or House Silverblade?

They fall under the pretence of Half Elf. And so are governed exactly as stated in the original post.

Which is important information to note, seen as they flaunt their long lives as though it were because they were part elf. A clarification will be required in their own lore as to why the actually live longer than most humans. If they want to believe it is because of their elven blood then they can do so, however there should be a real reason, otherwise good luck living beyond 80.

Honestly I don't see what was the harm in having halfies run a shared trait, with this it would either kill off a lot of Half races, or make running a half child completely harsh while interesting for the first while.

Was having the half elves, or half anything else really that deterimental that roleplaying it had to be cut into critical halves? A lot of people who wanted to simply have that life span of an elf but still want to be human for personal fun would simply slow down their aging rply.

It's not like they were human with 1k life spans, let people enjoy the server and have fun, not be boggled down by rules and regulations.
