Agnub 605 Share Posted June 24, 2013 I don't agree with that. Simply because it shouldn't be that way around. OOC skill at PVP shouldn't decide your IC skill. Exactly. It's an RP server after all - not a PvP server. If people want to fight PvP there are a plethora of other servers with Nation conflict and PvP that can float their boats.
Varstivus 98 Share Posted June 24, 2013 If it is PvP default, it will be fair to those with inferior pc's... I play at less than 20fps usually... I don't feel it's fair. What this wonderful panda person said. I don't want to see a flame war start on how to optimize your computer for PVP, some of us have real stuff to do on computers. MetaSolaray 242 Share Posted June 24, 2013 Honestly if PvP became the standard of any combat I'd probarly stop playing anything related to combat. I didn't spend weeks working on martial combat roleplay only to be beaten at it by someone who has a better understanding of MC combat mechanics. Honestly if you don't like hour long Rp combat; state so before the RP starts, if the other person hates PvP? Why force it upon them so "you can get your quick win." not everyone likes RP battles, not everyone likes PvP If you and the person your fighting can't come to an agreement; find a way that both of you can win, :/ EDIT: Also I thought that OOC things weren't suppose to affect IC things. Understanding of PvP mechanics that are MINECRAFT and are not related to IC is techinally using OOC skills to influence IC events.
Evilbanana5757 154 Share Posted June 24, 2013 Gaius's option is a nice balance! I like it!
Roderick Greymane / Vegas 219 Share Posted June 24, 2013 Role-play fighting is the best option for multiple reasons, first off you've got players that should be way better then someone else when it comes to a fight, but might not be better at pvp, so they will lose against someone that they should have won against in terms of rp skill. An example of this is a fight between an elf who has had years of training ((let's just say this is an elf that was training for over an IRL year of rp, and then add that they're not a very good pvper)) against an 18 year old human with little combat experience who just joined the server, but happens to have been one of the best pvpers on his last server before joining LoTC. Obviously if we had the two fight a pvp battle, the new player would win against someone he should have lost to in a rp battle or in terms of rp skill. Using the PvP system is a flawed system that can easily be abused by the pvp hungry players of the server who just want it because they know and are confident that they will win in a battle almost 90% of the time. Roleplay fighting gives a better and more fair chance for both sides to fight on equal terms instead of just using pvp to get items, so my vote goes towards using Roleplay Default fighting because it is a fair system and PvP should only be used in times when Rp fighting is just a no can do. Shorsand 2006 Share Posted June 24, 2013 I'm not a fan of large-scale fighting in general, but RP-Default seems the most fair situation, at least moreso than PvP-Default. Really either option isn't 'fair' to an extent because in PvP: Better connection wins. In RP: whoever describes their actions better wins. Not to mention seeing a PvP fight and hearing 'whap, whap, whap, UOGH!' isn't very appealing or enjoyable.
Hobolympic 1093 Share Posted June 24, 2013 Again, I'm stating it again: Try out PVP default for a while, and if it doesn't work out, switch back to RP default.
Stormageddon50 1 Share Posted June 24, 2013 Pvp default will end a lot of annoying things in rp fighting. First of all people not knowing the science behind what they are doing being ridiculous. such as people dodging hits even though it wouldn't really be possible, or people threatening to cut your arteries in a way that would only cut capilaries. It would also end power-gaming where someone sneaks up behind you and stabs at your head with nothing you can do. it also stops severley wounded people from just getting up and running away somehow after in the rp they are extreemely wounded. Finally, it would end people having their character do a ton of fancy moves they couldn't do normally just because they don't want to deal with the consequences.
