Also, what's to stop someone from creating a ton of new forum accounts and spamming votes on one option?

Less time spent on combat RP = the thing this server needs! You can still ask for RP combat. This will just make the combat RP less of a focal point of the server which in my opinion leads to a majority of OOC friction. PvP while slightly crude is faster and allows the fight to be done with instead of taking 1-2 hours allowing non-combat RP to become more of a focal point.

That being said I love that cities would get to decide! I think that is a great compromise.

I'm guessing IP addresses can be checked as I believe forum votes, even hidden, can be seen by admins and such.

I just want to note.

PVP default is not a wise choice, even if the majority of the server thinks so. And 69 doesn't outbeat the 76 other players who voted for the other two choices.

Gaius's choice I think it is a smart compromise between the two.

Though I'm going to repeat what I said before, poll's are not a very valid way to judge things because peopel will just ask their buddies who don't give a flying f*** to vote for their side of the debate.

If PVP wins, everyone with poor computers sort of get thrown under the bus. Means we can't play combat characters, which is a real drag for a lot of us. I rarely get any combat roleplay anymore, but when I do, i thoroughly enjoy it. I'd hate for PVP to become the norm, as it would take away from good possible roleplay.

If the person powergames, report them and they'll get a strike or ban, VA revoke, or some other punishment. Or, you know, you can actually take the time to explain to them how they are powergaming and how they can improve.

I am of the opinion that us allowing powergaming to become so prominent in our ban reports is part of the reason we have so many long extensive apps. We used to go through ban reports on the quality and quantity of Roleplay before PvP was initiated, and usually those reports were very quick and easy to get through. Now we have all these reports on powergaming and going through that and making a judgement of that is much much more difficult. Not only do both sides have to explain what happened and why a character can do that, but the Moderator has to listen to two people give detailed accounts on their character's life, history, training, quality of their training, the environment that they fought in, the temperature, the quality of gear, the type of smithing process, swords vs. katana argument, backflipping in armor, speed that a person can run, etc.  And to combat this the server adapted by making magic apps, by magic extensive villain apps, by requiring ridiculous amounts of lore for weapons or certain abilities or fight styles. This led us away from being a fun casual server and into being a hardcore boring bureaucratic server that we've been sitting at for that past 8+ months.

We're watching the registration count - if that happens, we'll delete the poll and make one where we can all see the idiots doing that.

Seriously, just bring back the old Aegis version for a while (PVP default). Try it, and if it just doesn't work out, we'll switch back. What's the big deal? It worked in Aegis, and most people had the time of their life back then (on LotC at least).

Here are a few drawings illustrating the choices 1 & 2 in a satirical manner. Obviously neither are correct and are just for fun.

RP should be accepted by request. Some of us don't have good processors or gpu's... I myself play at 15 FPS at most... That puts me at a severe disadvantage. If someone requests for a rp fight and puts in a reason, it should be took.

I'm supporting PVP default because I am tired of half an hour RP fights, time after time. Having to argue to get every hit to land is boring and I often find myself tabbed out browsing other websites because the fight has become so boring. PVP will wrap things up in a quick and timely manner. For those who cry about being God awful at PVP, if you insist on playing a combat oriented character, yet you have a lackluster PVP ability, you should RP your character as being terrible at combat, accordingly. Not every situation you encounter will be PVP, some will still choose to do RP fighting, I'm sure.

If anything, having a PVP default will cause more people to tread more lightly around others and work to not offend people they shouldn't. As it stands, RP fighting has no consequence, and as I see on a day-to-day basis; does not cause fear.

If it is PvP default, it won't be fair to those with inferior pc's... I play at less than 20fps usually... I don't feel it's fair.

EDIT: Fixed a huge typo

I don't agree with that. Simply because it shouldn't be that way around. OOC skill at PVP shouldn't decide your IC skill.

Then where is the roleplay? Why should we have to be restricted because you want a quick fight? I'm not good at PVP and I don't have a good operating system which continues to anger me with each passing day, so I should obviously have to just kneel down and be killed when some bandit without a real reason other than not liking my character's race shows up? (Which has happened in many situations).

Eh...

I can't play Knox with any system other than RP-default. I'm not a PvPer, and I've always enjoyed my roleplay as it is... I mean, it's pretty damn hard to play a psychopath when you draw some sort of weapon and are instantly beaten to death through a burst of frantic clicks. Nor do I myself really take pleasure in slaying somebody with the left mouse button, as I hardly see it as providing enjoyable roleplay. I suppose bandits are the only villains this system suits, and as they are in abundance (well, there are no bandits, just various military orders that act like them) villains like myself are left behind.

Not to play the 'victim card' but I can't continue with psychopath roleplay if the system changes. So this is why I'm voting RP-default.
