[Notice] Monster Hunting Swords

Thanks to a surge in the Event Team's use of Freema's "Wildlife of Anthos" lore, primarily the Vodnik attack events in Kralta, there is an RP demand for monster hunting swords. These swords are made of gold, not silver as is widely believed.

The confusion mainly arises because in most media monster hunting swords are silver (Skyrim and Witcher for example), and in the original version of Freema's "Wildlife of Anthos" lore the anti-monster metal was silver. However, before the implentation of said lore and the creatures that came with it the metal was changed to gold. Because the weaknesses of the creatures are not in the publicly displayed section of the lore this change never got out properly to those who'd seen the original and the misconception that the monster killing metal is silver remained.

Why gold, rather than silver? The answer lies in Minecraft's mechanics: there is no silver sword. Silver swords are represented with iron.
Monster hunters go to great lengths to acquire monster killing blades made of rare metal. Such weapons are uncommon and only carried by those who use them for monster hunting, otherwise you'd carry a normal blade.
The problem this causes is that anyone with an iron sword can RP it as a silver sword, as anyone with a bow can RP it as a crossbow or a longbow. Silver's a rare metal, nowhere near as ubiquitous as iron. Every soldier and traveller has an iron sword, and thus every soldier and traveller potentially has an incredibly valuable specialist monster killing blade.
Gold, however, makes for poor mechanical swords and has its own distinct item. You'd never go around with a golden sword, unless you're a monster hunter who's gone to great lengths to purchase a specialised monster killing sword. Sound familiar?

If you have a silver sword you purchased as a monster killing sword, message a GM, direct them to this thread, and (hopefully) they'll replace it with the gold sword you would have purchased IC were it not for this OOC mistake. If you'd prefer, you could also continue to RP it as a silver sword and discover to your horror that the monster killing blade you bought doesn't work when the monsters you're hunting are no more harmed than they would be by a normal sword.

Finally, gold will be more valuable than iron like it's supposed to be. But I do have a question. Will gold swords have a better durability or will they still break after only a few kills?

Challenge accepted :} I think I just found a project.

If you're thinking of making a silver sword item Arzorta, you've only got five colours to choose from (brown, dark grey, light grey, gold and blue), and iron's already taken silver. That's why it was switched to gold in the first place.

What about all the events where we had a weakness to silver? Quite a few of these happened as we were told to do so.

Somewhere along the line someone wasn't told, I think it has a lot to do with some people ordering silver swords before Wildlife of Anthos was implemented. Personally, I'd just act as if it were gold all along.

You don't need to worry about anything... ItemMeta can change the names and such and I could easily set durability and damage with a bit of work. It would be included in Nexus so don't get too excited yet.

Either way good change for the time being!

Names, durability, these are only visible to the wielder. Unless you can change the colour of the blade, it's no improvement.
Besides, all subsequent lores using monster hunting swords (such as Urara's Ghosts and Kalenz's Apparitions) have used gold. It's only "Wildlife of Anthos" and the Vodniks with the silver misconception. It would be even messer to change all the gold swords silver (retconning three lores and their subsequent RP) than to make silver gold (retconning some RP to have been gold instead of silver)

Although if you want to make a custom sword, a proper gold monster hunting sword that does extra damage to undead mobs would be wonderful.

Oo, and a bit of Unbreaking, for any forward thinking individuals who might want to gild their iron swords with gold?

Thanks for this. So now I can change it without IC problems or paying for another weapon! As my char is a witcher he would know icly the monster's weakness to be gold.

What if I have a golden sword that is RP named to Silver Dagger?

I kid, I know that it will be fine.  I like these changes as it gives some more value to gold.

I have read in the ghost lore, that it's not gold swords that defeat them, but Mage gold weapons. Would there be like this, then a difference between normal gold weapons, and Magegold weapons? Like normal weapons are bad, gold weapons are normal, magegold weapons are good?
