everblue2er101 906 Share Posted October 13, 2013 The Official Release of Wiki 4.0 A few weeks ago Wiki 3.0 broke. This isn’t the first time wikis have fallen to such a fate, and the task of transferring the information to a new wiki usually lies in the hands of a few individuals. This time, given that there were over 325 pages to transfer and reformat, a call was raised. Several players accepted the challenge and have been working very hard on getting the work done. As a result, the transferring was completed quite quickly and Wiki 4.0 can now be officially released. Huge thanks need to be given to Tythus, for securing the new wiki. Also to ski_king3, who pushed hard for better organization, recruited most of those involved and also transferred like mad. Also thank-you to everyone who helped out – VonEbs, patato12, Gronkk, Nug, Jistuma, Edgerunt, Zarsies, Escharian and LolitaDoll. I hope no one was missed, because it was a massive undertaking and everyone really rose to the challenge well. Everything was transferred as is with very few changes. Some of it was done in a rush so there are formatting issues. Of course, lots of the content is still badly outdated. With less urgency to complete the transferring the focus can once again shift to editing. Everything will be fixed with time. Expect a full guide on editing the wiki soon, as well as a list of changes that really need to be made. Anyone interested in editing the wiki will need to register first. Don’t feel that just because you have little to add or aren’t sure how to go about it you shouldn’t get involved. If everyone does small amounts of editing it all adds up quickly. Details on how to register are in the section below. Anyone with any questions should contact a wiki admin either on skype or through forum PMs.How to Sign Up There are two ways to register. First, click the Join button on the top right hand side of the Main Page. Fill out boxes. It’ll then ask if you want to send a request for membership to the LOTC wiki. Do so. Someone will accept it and you’ll be able to edit. Alternately, you can be added manually. Send your e-mail to a wiki admin through a forum PM or skype message and you’ll be added. You will need to create a username, password. Using either method you’ll need to confirm the account with the e-mail sent or else the account cannot be used to edit.Editing Guidlines and Tips Myself or someone will create a real guide on how to use Wiki 4.0, but for now be aware of these notes when editing. - The main page of the wiki is locked to prevent vandalism. If something should be added to it, contact me. - Pages should have an introduction that gives an overview of the content. In very short articles an intro is not necessary. - Use proper spelling, grammar, capitalization and punctuation. A fairly standard request, but extremely important. - It’s always a good idea to preview edits before submitting them. You may notice formatting issues that you weren’t aware of, or spelling and grammar issues that were overlooked. - Don’t be offended if a page you’ve worked on or created is edited. We all make mistakes, and sometimes others can fix spelling or grammar errors you’ve overlooked. Similarly, others may have more information they can add to the page. The wiki is a collaborative effort, and the best way to make it the best it can be is with cooperation. - If you’re working on a page and can’t add all the edits you want at one time, put WIP on the page. If you see a page with this displayed, try not to edit it. Do not leave a page in progress for too long. Pages that are WIP for more than a week will be considered open for editing. - In the same vein, try and focus on one page at a time. Don’t create several pages and then leave them empty. - Large scale lore pages and works must be approved by Lore Masters through the Lore forum. - When editing existing pages, make sure to follow the established formatting. - Only the first reference in a page should have a link to the page. For instance, if on a page it says something is found in Anthos and later in the article Anthos is mentioned again, only the first mention would have a link to the Anthos page. In some articles there are reasons to do otherwise, but not nearly as commonly. This is a fairly standard practice in most wikis. - Although not used often, references can be helpful when editing. Link to forum threads, images or videos that backup what has been added. When doing so, add the referenced material in a link with the name of the link shortened. For instance, instead of having the entire link to a topic in the wiki article, make it so that clicking 'This topic' links to the topic. - Although it should be obvious, do not link to anything harmful or not related to LOTC.Large parts of this post are blatantly ripped off from the Wiki 3.0 post. So sue me.

Drazker 307 Share Posted October 13, 2013 Hope the wiki actually gets some attention. It's the most organized material new members can go to, but it's bare in terms of information. Knowledgeable members of the community should get to working on that more, especially important background information and the current situation.
Samoblivion 532 Share Posted October 13, 2013 It keeps saying its sent me a confirmation email but it hasn't. Is this an issue for me or is the system just slow?

ski_king3 0 Share Posted October 13, 2013 Seriously, everyone should give Everblue a nice big pat on the back. He's kept the wiki running for ages now, nearly single-handedly, and he brought all of us together to help out and get this up quickly, with a lot of success. He's a really awesome guy to work with, and did an awesome job as always. Thanks Everblue for this, I'm glad I could help. But in all seriousness... where are the cupcakes I was promised?!?!
