Though born with sight, Eilistraee would soon come to find that such should not be taken for granted for it was on the eve of her hundredth birthday that a fire broke out within her home, embers from the fireplace had ignited the wooden planks in front as there was nothing to protect it. Rushing into her home to find her parents had all but fled, yet something seemed off, she could hear the faint cries of an infant echoing from upstairs. Taking action the elveness would make her way up the steps to find her youngest sibling no older than a few days curled up in a blanket which hid him from plain sight, grabbing hold of him she would make her way through the stairs as the home around her erupted into flames, the fire hungry devouring every inch that it came into contact with.
The smoke and flames searing her eyes as she did her best to run by memory rather than by having to look around, yet unfortunately the damage had already been done for as she breached the door by force embers from the flames had burnt away at her eyes permanently blinding the elf as staggered forwards being grabbed by her father who pulled her further away from the still burning wreckage behind them. It was there she fell into a deep slumber, exhausted and weary the elf wouldn't wake up until a week had passed by and so rather than the suns rays gracing her eyes all she saw was black, afraid and frightened she cried out for help, falling from her bed onto the hard floor below with a loud thud, unable to find her way in the new home her family had acquired. Rushing up the steps her parents found her curled on the floor, unwilling to move from her cradled position having to be physically picked up and placed back onto the bed where they tended to her still healing burn wounds which decorated her skin, she could tell by their tired weary voices that they hid their emotions and worry for their once healthy child was now permanently scarred. Blinded by the fire as she chose to rush back inside to save her youngest sibling.
As the days and nights turned into weeks, months and then years the elveness had since grown accustomed to her lack of sight, though her inability to find work let alone survive was noticeably becoming a strain within her family as her parents continued to grow old the fear that she could not survive without them was of great concern yet they so desperately wished for her to be free. Despite the happy façade the elveness would spend most nights laid within her bed staring at the dark abyss before her eyes unable to sleep, unable to feel she truly was empty inside and was desperate for an escape, she wanted nothing more than to be able to see, to not be looked upon as weaker and frail for her disability, closing her eyes as a single tear fell from her eyelids, down her cheek and eventually onto the pillow she would attempt to sleep.
A sudden flash of light disrupted the young elvenesses otherwise uneventful slumber, discomforted by the bright flash which made her pull away almost screaming for help in fear, afraid by such a display she would toss and turn attempting to cover her eyes to shield her from the light that now forced its way into her face a sensation that overstimulated her senses for she had not experienced the warmth and color of light for years, yet despite the fear the entity that seemed to be emitting the source of such golden hue felt comforting, it’s the warmth slowly enveloped her body.
Burying her face into the entity the elveness would recognize the comforting embrace as that of her mother, a warm feeling that she had not felt since she was a child for her mother had since grown more and more distant during the years that followed the night she became blind unwilling or unable to comfort her daughter let alone even look at her. "What are you... if not my kin?" The elveness would ask the figure who had since remained silent all the while almost like a shelter to the blind elf.
As quickly as it came, so did it disappear, for only but a few seconds before she would feel the warmth of the light wrap around her body, arms engulfing her in a tight hug. The body made no sound, nor spoke instead it would conjure a pair of golden bandages and carefully wrapped them around her eyes. A softened voice would then whisper within her ears “I know you feel like a burden, but may you no longer have to feel such pain nor discontent with your situation.. Keep your eyes covered little dove..”
As daylight began to break through the blinds the elveness couldn’t help but shelter her eyes from it’s sharp and painful glare, to her bewilderment she leapt herself out of bed, rushing towards the mirror where a wrap covered her eyes, her heart beat fast as she could see herself.. For the first time in years she could see herself and the room she had been placed in which was evidently dirty and in need of immediate dusting, she would grin widely for now she had a purpose, now she had a vision to serve the figure who gave her a second chance.
