  1. Guy who literally writes the rules realising he can't RP without breaking rule #1 to discuss how rule #2 would work in this particular case: "The problem is obviously that I sent the message instead of a non-staff player we could've just banned." 🤡
  2. Can you now admit that NL/region rules are ******* ridiculous and finally get to changing them?
  3. ((if lighting hits u then it'll hit ur horse too before it strikes the ground
  4. can i eat a starfruit to escape combat or will i get banned just checking
  5. Does this server actually make any money? The costs of running the server must be pretty high and they don't roll in that many donations monthly.
  6. The most noticeable outcome of metaplay rules has been that no one makes RP posts anymore, because they're an easy way to get yourself banned if it turns out not every minute detail of the post was actually done in-game previously. Whereas if you don't make the post and communicate solely via Discord, then your OOC plans never cross the "threshold" into RP and you're safe. Metaplay as a rule has made discord plotting worse and not better.
  7. What I will really never understand is the obsession this server has with disabling as many Minecraft mechanics as possible. We all bought this game, the game which became the #1 best-selling of all time because of its, get this, mining and crafting, and yet anyone with any position of authority on the server thinks the winning play is to lock everything and turn it into a text-only MUD with no way of interacting with environment whatsoever. Where it really got funny was when the ST were talking about creating interesting caves to explore, and no one involved seemed to realise Minecraft has done this automatically for literal years now, and the idea of just letting people explore actual Minecraft caves was out of question. As for resource gathering and the actual insanity that are nodes, why can't we just let groups handle their own wood, ore, etc. supplies through mining and lumberjacking in the real world? For resources that would be harder to gather without griefing the entire landscape, like terracotta and stone, use mine-worlds and let people pay to open entrances in their lands like in past maps. None of this OOC resource-island-purgatory thing please - aren't we supposed to be an RP server? If we do have a resource island it should be a real place ICly and be in addition to other ways of gathering resources (like from the actual map), not the only way. Aegis did it pretty well where you could buy resource pits that auto-regenerated and they were real RP locations--like you'd have a sand mine right outside the Orcish city that you had to buy a permit to. Probably a fairly complicated system to code and manage, so I'm not saying to do exactly that, but the idea of trying to keep resource pits an RP thing is one to take from that.
  8. A ton of old posts are messed up because of broken image links. Let us edit them so we can fix the links. Cheers! (if this is some other Invision related problem then please let me have a look pleeez. the forums will just eternally become a worse and more useless place if we can neither (a) search the archive or (b) view the posts properly when we do eventually find them)
  9. Push comes to shove, we could always have a separate way of searching the archives. Incredibly dumb that Invision loads everything when you open the forums though, wtf? I mean, if the front-end can handle displaying the archives and the normal content, why does it have to be so spergy about how it loads it in the backend? Cringe. Anyway, archive search is hugely important for lore heads and forum historians, and honestly the archives are borderline worthless when unsearchable, so I'd be happy to help in any way I could. 👍

  11. Virtually every resource goes for 1 mina. Only signed ST items and books are worth anything. The supply of resources growing much faster than the supply of mina -> prices continually lower until they can lower no more. This happens every map within a couple months now.
  12. can we PLEASE stop adding money sinks when mina are already deflated to ****
  13. The CT is full of cringe OOC signs announcing competition winners from 2023. When are you guys going to delete that shit which makes the server look like it's dead? Navigation in the CT is a mess. I can log on and walk you through what it's like for a noob if you want. Yeah sorry, won't happen. Also, once you get through the CT and start heading toward a capital, the signs always randomly stop. This is idiotic - I presume it's accidental but it's very annoying for new and returning players and there should really be a CT member in charge of checking signs at least once every 2 weeks. I could do it if needs be but no you'll just cry and do nothing instead, understood. And finally, a <66% acceptance rate is abysmal and we should accept more.
  14. Most nations on LOTC are barely even city states. You could prob count the number of city states major historical conquerors annexed in the dozens. In Napoleon's case it led to literal hundreds of statelets east of the Rhine being absorbed. We could also flip the question around and ask "have you ever heard of a region so small you could run across it within like an hour having 23 'nations'?" obviously the more nations you have crammed together, the more will fall when a major conflict starts.
  15. Hyspia and Reinmar didn't go anywhere. They just became vassals. Haense was offered vassalisation and refused, but most of their vassals are keeping their titles AFAIK. Also Haense has started plenty of wars itself - it's not like one of these magic towns who just wanted to sit in splendid isolation from the world, which is the kind of place I assume you mean when you talk about Human Canonist countries destroying hubs for unique RP (Haense being a Human Canonist nation btw, same with Hyspia, Reinmar and Aaun). Anyway that's all besides the point. A year is actually a very long amount of time - people shouldn't grow old waiting for things to actually happen on this server. A few nations/settlements dying per year is fine. What isn't fine, and I agree with you here, is how hard it is to make a new nation/settlement. The current set of rules was made at a time when we had a load of little groups and very little impactful warfare. People were complaining about an unending bloat of nations - that time has clearly passed so the rules should be loosened. If this is true then that should pretty clearly fall under metagaming and be reported. That said, granting OOC permission for people to be on your land is one thing - but it becomes RP when you become RPly aware of their presence and not only do nothing about it, but prevent other people from doing something about it.
  16. A couple nations have gotten destroyed, most of whom either (a) actively pursued a hostile foreign policy against the Pontifical States (and BTW, housing literal demons from Hell is hostile and it's silly to act otherwise), or (b) previously invaded and destroyed Veletz (I still don't understand why the Church would care about this IC, but it does show that these nations were willing to go to war and destroy other people's nations, so they acknowledged that inter-nation conflict and playing-for-keeps is legitimate). As for Empires having previously failed - well yes, that's what happens when you have a server for 15 years. We could easily take the same attitude and dismiss "diverse magic outcast nation #5786" or "wood elf fae ring harem nation #92325" as failed repeats of previous projects in order to delegitimise them or any RP done with the goal of creating or furthering such an entity. Is trying to repeat something that's done before a bad thing or not? (1) The server's been around for about almost 15 years, (2) a few of those Empires are only counted separately because the dynasty changed and the Empire never actually fell, and (3) most Empires fell because the server allowed wars and intra/inter-nation to happen freely (to a much greater degree than today) - which is something you're actively trying to prevent. So again, it's hypocritical to criticise a nation (or the concept of a nation, really) for having taken the L in wars when you're literally calling for war to be abolished because yours took the L.
  17. lol dude virtually every Protestant country had/has a State Church with the King as the ultimate head of the Church - funnily enough most schism attempts IRP have also been nations trying to create state churches. And as for the fantasy racism - it's actually Canonist dogma that all races can go to the Seven Skies and it's the sects that believe only Humans can. Not to mention that the Canonist Church has had non-Human Saints and Pontiffs. Very weak attempt at smearing Canonism with all the things you dislike about Human RP. I recommend you google "the Church of Denmark" and search "Favoritism" on the forums before your next one.
  18. There's only gonna be one Canonist human nation in the near future so no worries about the most nations being Canonist thing. The small number of nations is a staff decision to have activity checks and to not accept charters except under a strenuous set of conditions. It's not the result of war. We have these rules because players complained at having dozens of empty copy-paste nations. Now the complaint is that there are too few and it's hard for one to build their own community. I'm more towards your side of this particular issue (allowing ppl to get land easily vs activity checks and charters) but also it's not hard to get land as a vassal, so why not just do that instead of leaving the server because your nation got annexed? If you don't have the manpower for it, then band with other groups. Ultimately, this is not WoW village RP - you don't get to pick and choose who you RP with, but rather live in a (barely) living-breathing dynamic RP world where things outside of your control will happen and characters with hostile intentions will interact with yours. At that point you have to roll with the punches. Loss is an opportunity to do something new and it's an important part of any story (and that's what this is at the end of the day - cooperative storytelling). There's no drama where there's no stakes. As for the motivations behind starting a conflict - there is no art to the mind's construction in the face and all that, but we can safely assume the goal is not to deepen pockets, given that money is totally worthless on this server. Nor does it help furthering a regime - starting a war is much more risky than just sitting back and basking in one's own decadence as 90% of the server are wont to do. It's happened like twice total.
  19. it's crazy how metaplay rules just stopped RP posts being made and didn't stop OOC planning at all

everyone knows how the next 6 months of politics r gonna play out from having heard it on discord but browsing the forums you'd swear nothing was going on

@Crevel i think ppl are being cautious abt what they post because discussing treaties and map-painting in private discord chats is safe, but the moment u make an RP post the admins can check ur IG logs to ban you if not everything's adding up.

discord diplomacy and planning absolutely is still happening. the only difference is that the knowledge gap between someone who gets their info from discord and someone who gets their info from Latest Topics is larger than ever

  20. These horizons still look a lot farther away than what I get when I log onto LOTC rn. Are these chunks preloaded or are the view distances changing?
  21. I don't think there's been an actually toxic war in years. Modern LOTC wars are 10% toxicity and 90% people spamming Discord pings and forum threads talking about the supposed toxicity. I'm sure some of you are genuine, but I know for a fact some of the players who always rush to decry toxicity (while never citing examples) use it as a way to safely smear their enemies while acting like they just care about player protection and having fun. It's also often done in the hopes of having the staff intervene to pause or cancel the conflict - the sudden chatter about it now is probably because there's word going around on Discord about the Covenant collapsing. I don't think the NLs involved are mercenary enough to try and get the conflict called off "due to toxicity" btw, but I'm sure it's a motivator for people to suddenly (coincidentally) have meltdowns now after weeks of war and multiple days since the last warclaim.
  22. Someone including you in a war compilation vid is still not a good enough reason to skip meals and stay up all night.
