  4. THE PROCESSION OF FURNESTOCK C. 1844 The Arrival of The Amadeus to Henry’s Wharf. The wind blew particularly thunderously above the sand-kissed shores of Henry’s Wharf on this day, the 6th of Tobias’ Bounty, sweeping the golden locks of Charlotte Augusta with the salted tang of the nearby sea. Her arms hung interlaced above the waist in wait for the appearance of The Amadeus, that which would carry her husband’s grandchildren to their rightful home once more - that which would bring with it the death of his firstborn son and heir. At this thought did her eyes move to coalesce over the exterior of the aforementioned husband, whom she could not dare parallel in grief: Philip Aurelian stood by several soldiers of the Imperial State Army lugging oars borne at their adjacence, each postured with a blether that sung in the common angst of the day. Without notice, one of those oars rose into the air in a singular swift ascent, a voice cutting through wind tremulously. “There it is! Over the horizon!” Shouted Robert Galbraith, who himself careered forwards posthaste. Trailing him were instantly the remaining soldiers, all advancing towards two readied sailboats that would greet The Amadeus and render the Prince and his progeny home. Philip Aurelian and Charlotte exchanged glances. “Bide your time,” he seemed to say, his faithful wife nodding in understanding as she watched her husband depart towards the location designated for the sails’ arrival. And so the two boats went into those murky blue waters, each somber of essence against the backwash of ocean waves. Even whilst transferring those children and their witnesses to board from ‘ere their galley, the soldiers’ primary ponderance was on the body concealed in the coffin that would follow… In landing onto shore, it was the focus of all. As it was removed from the hull, a blanket of red was deployed to envelope the Prince’s final cradle by Cardinal Albarosa, bearing the lorraine cross over its perfect center. The ivory casket was consequently emplaned into the waiting arms of various priests of the canon via the aid of brigadiers; wooden, humble in design yet intricately detailed and of an unmatched fantastical origin; honoring the legacy of that Prince in his imperishable youth. The children were removed in succession, aided by the warmth of their grandfather, who offered them a smile as best he could muster. “Welcome home, my darling grandchildren.” He verbalized gently, his hand offered to the eldest, Catherine, whose grey eyes affixed unto his- of the same color -with a sea of uncertainty strapping her. Attached to Catherine by the arm was the smaller Julia, black of hair, shadowed by a boy, Peter, just two years old, whose cheeks were doused in tears even after their nearly three months of travel. These three eldest were positioned unto the beach opposite their grandpapa, one’s eyes wandering to spot Charlotte watching on from across the bay in a monotone of wonderment, and themselves being placed in bewilderment. Two men additionally disembarked. The first was Franz Sarkozy, the aged old Archchancellor bearing a grin towards Philip Aurelian in contrast with the moody atmosphere of the rest. Finally, the ancient nauzican at the Duke’s lateral, Nyseia, heaved the last two babes from the sail that he’d himself been on. Victoria and James- innocent in their bundles of white cloth trimmed with gold -completed the disembarkment onto land. Thus, the procession began forth into the City of Providence - The Furnestock Coffin supported by priests of the Canon through the streets of Providence. -And ended in the chapel of the Augustine Palace, the silence of the city unmatched on this day with the exception of the golden bells of the Basilica that churned notes of sober solemnity across the halls of Providentia’s homes. The chapel was slowly occupied by patriots of the Princes’ past and dear friends and fellowmen, the train of priests lowering Philip Amadeus’ casket before the red cross that defined the body of Philip II, who stood in symmetry betwixt the white pillars of the chapel chancel. The Emperor’s head was declined to take stock of his grandchild’s resting bed, he who should never have surpassed him in death’s race. His wig, laborious a weight over the head, was done away with as a credo of respect, the man pacing down to vet the closed casket with a weathered finger’s touch. He began to speak, and as he did so his eyes landed on the sight of Catherine, hand entwined now in Charlotte’s, who also carried the juvenile Julia and Peter. His eyes were of solace to them, and of studied despair. He would end his speech with a beckon to his first great-grandchild, the youth’s rosy cheeks tinctured with a miserable melancholy. She whirled to face the great hall, peering towards the gathered many - peering timidly, and began: “My father was a great man. He was a good man, a kind man. Always looking to the horizon, ahead not behind... “ She hesitated before continuing, the pitched lilt of her voice carrying her guiltlessness in droves, “That is why he traveled to lands afar, to explore that new frontier. He loved to laugh, and joke around with mummy and siblings. My father, the Duke of Furnestock, loved this country. And he loved his people, just as he loved his own children. I will miss him. We will all miss him. But, I take comfort in knowing that he is in God’s hands, and I know that I will see him someday again.”
  5. "An apt scholar, old Viktor. He had quite an affinity with the pen. I shall miss reading his works," A very elderly Celestine Herbert rasps to a traveling companion as she receives word of the man's passing, before continuing in her explorations.
  6. MEMBERSHIP REGISTRATION FORM Name: Elizabeth Brae-Wittenbach Age: 58 Sex: Female Statement of Expertise: For nearly a decade, I served as an MHC in the Imperial House of Commons before its most recent reform. During my second term, I presided over the Diet as the first female President of the Commons. I also served as the third Chairman of the National Party before its being rendered defunct following the dissolution of parties and political factions within the Holy Orenian Empire. Furthermore, I have served for the last six or seven years as Foreign Secretary on the Council of State, negotiating a variety of treaties during my tenure presiding over the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. I am also well versed in the higher mysteries of the arcane, being an enchanter and a sorceress by trade.
  7. Elizabeth Brae-Wittenbach, Foreign Secretary of the Holy Orenian Empire, smiles warmly as she reviews the published accords that bear her name. The tired Adunian is very happy to see the fruits of her hard work, and takes heart in the idea of the renewal of a pleasant, robust relationship between these two countries close to her heart.
  8. Elizabeth Brae-Wittenbach, Foreign Secretary of the Holy Orenian Empire, smiles warmly as she reads over the newly released treaty. "To a better and brighter future, together!" She toasts to nobody in particular at her usual booth in the Novellen Tavern, quickly draining her glass of wine thereafter.
  9. Raising an eyebrow as she reads over the missive, the leader of the National Party snorts. "What a pack of lies. This man's had a personal vendetta against me for years," She grumbles to her daughter as she tosses the missive in the flaming hearth of the Novellen Tavern. "Save for Basrid and Vuiller, very few members of the opposition he touts ever turned up, whereas many from our own party endeavored to do so regularly. And the impeachment was on the agenda, the man simply resigned before we got around to considering it. We passed several robust bills this session, whereas the opposition only proposed but a single one. Every Diet fails quorum at least once or twice, always has and always will. And is an especially hurtful for him to proclaim that a party, of which five out of six members are women, would EVER try to do institute such a ghastly and abominable practice. In reality, we authored a bill in an endeavor to LIBERATE commoner women from having to ask their fathers and brother for permission to wed! Part of our manifesto, laid out plain and clear for all to see. I shall never understand what animosity this fellow holds against me. Alas, I suppose it shan't be my problem anymore, not for long." Inclining her head, the former President and Foreign Secretary leaves a few marks on the table. Moving to leave the establishment, her daughter would follow after her. The Adunian woman privately decides that her energies would be better pursued elsewhere in the field of foreign affairs than wrangling with ambitious statemen.

  11. 26th Imperial Diet, House of Commons, 1831 Following her election by a majority vote to the office of President of the Commons, Elizabeth Brae-Wittenbach would move to be seated. When the young representative from the Right-Bank had first stood for election, this was the last place that she had believed she would end up. And yet, here she was. Clearing her throat, she began to speak. “Most honorable representatives, I thank you for placing your trust in me to serve as your presiding officer for the 26th Imperial Diet. I am honored to preside over this chamber as the first woman to hold the position since its inception.” Elizabeth is then approached by the Custodian of the Diet. Taking the ledger from him in hand, which has been bound with the finest red leather, she would begin to take roll: "SARKOZY, Tobias, of Greater Alpine District. BRAE-WITTENBACH, Elizabeth, of Right-Bank District. BANNER, Bartholomew, of Right Bank District. DE ROSIUS, Maria, of Right Bank District. BARBOVIC, Rupert Sigmar, of Northern District. FITZPETER, Anthony, of Northern District. D'AZOR, Rosaline, of Providence District. D'AZOR, Philippa, of Providence District. MELPHESTAUS, Thucydides, of Providence District. D'AZOR, Kelhus, of Providence District. HARTCOLD-ROURKE, Jane, of Providence District. BASRID, Matyas, of Providence District." Upon the confirmation that all were present in the chamber, the woman would continue. "As is the obligation of every Member the beginning of each session of the House of Commons, the members-elect must now recite the ancient Nauzican Oath of fealty to Crown and country.” The President then rises from her seat, the red headed woman motioning for her colleagues to follow suit. They do so without hesitation. Instructing them to raise their right hands and repeat after her, Elizabeth leads the House in the recitation of their oaths of office. ”I swear to be true to the Emperor and the realm and not to maintain silence about any evil that I may know which is being contemplated against them. I swear to work tirelessly to the betterment of the Empire and the Orenian people that comprise it. I swear also not to eat or drink with traitors and not to have anything in common with them, and always to defend the honor of the gentlemen I serve. This I swear by the Holy Scrolls.” After taking the oath, the members seat themselves once again. Elizabeth would take her own seat, leaving but a moment's silence before beginning to speak to the chamber. “I shan't bore you with a long winded speech. However, I would like to say that it is both an honor and a privilege to have been elected as the first female President of the House of Commons. This august body has been entrusted to legislate for the betterment of our country, elected by their constituents to represent them in the highest deliberative body in all the land. The democratic process is a beautiful thing, a process which is part and parcel to being an Orenian. Indeed , the Titans of State treasured the institution of the Imperial Diet as the epitome of their work. We now how a responsibility to deliver for our constituents, to avoid complacency and to better our country for all who live within it." Offering the chamber a soft smile, she would finish with her brief speech. Then, she would tap her gavel down upon the table in front of her. “I now call upon the Leader of the House, Philippa d'Azor, to set the proceeding business for this session of the Commons.” ((This is a forum roleplay post. 17. ✵ THE NATIONAL PARTY ✵ “One Nation, One People, Moving Forward” The Imperial Diet Building, 1830 With the dissolution of the 25th Imperial Diet, our great nation once again finds itself in the midst of a national election. It is a time that has become part and parcel of our political life, a regularity which we exercise with the utmost conviction. Yet, the ability to hold free and fair elections is not something to be taken for granted. This uniquely Orenian process is shared by few other countries across the continent. Indeed, the ability to choose one’s own representatives to forge the laws of our Empire is a blessing that even our forefathers could not have been able to fathom. The purpose of the Imperial Diet is to create, draft, and pass legislation that meaningfully affects the lives of every single citizen of this great country. It is a sacred duty which those elected are tasked with discharging, and it is one that we, as Nationals, are determined to pursue to our utmost ability. The National Party considers itself to be the champions of liberty, a From the poorest laborers to the richest of businessmen, the lowliest peasants to the most prestigious of the nobility, our party is a party for all. We believe in legislating in the name of One Nation, One God, and One Emperor, and in the creation of a future for all. But furthermore, we are a party of progress, action, and initiative. To truly be a National Party, we must represent the interests of those who live within our great nation to our utmost ability. The National Party has used its majority in the House of Commons to pass scores of meaningful bills designed to better the lives of all within the Holy Orenian Empire. The Orenian people chose to place their faith in us during the last election cycle, with the National Party receiving the largest majority in the history of the Diet. We have not betrayed their trust. Indeed, we have championed it with all of our hearts, and delivered real results for our constituents. LEGISLATION PASSED IN THE COMMONS: Reinstatement of the Petrine Laurel: This prized accolade was once one of the most prestigious awards that could be awarded to an Orenian purveyor of the arts. Due to the efforts of Elizabeth Brae-Wittenbach, one of our leading legislators, this award will once again be offered to artisans and scholars across the Holy Orenian Empire to congratulate and recognize exceptional merit in intellectual endeavors. Establishment of a National Granary Reserve: Across Almaris, a variety of natural disasters have wrought havoc upon the lives of the everyday denizens of rural areas. In order to proactively prevent a famine from transpiring in Oren, similar in nature to the ones that have become so commonplace north of the border, we have thus acted to pass legislation that will establish a National Granary Reserve under the Home Office. Also written by Elizabeth Brae-Wittenbach with advice from one of her constituents, this agricultural reserve will stockpile emergency food stores to be distributed in case of the outbreak of such a natural disaster. It will also have the effect of subsidizing farmers by purchasing wholly Orenian agricultural products during times of plenty. Implementation of Search & Arrest Warrants: Liberty is a precious thing, as is the presumption of a citizen’s innocence until their guilt has otherwise been proven. No man or woman should have to be subjected to random searches or unwarranted arrests by law enforcement without just cause. Thus, due to the efforts of Henrik Komenos, we have passed legislation that will require a warrant to be filed and issued before the search of a home or the arrest of an individual without any immediate grounds to do so. Creation of a Sophisticated Railway Network: Thanks to the efforts of two of our other members, Patrick O’Rourke and Sir Otis de Rosius, we have drafted and sent to the House of Lords comprehensive legislation that would create a realistic, carefully planned network of railroads meant to revitalize the economics of, and travel between, the many municipalities of the Holy Orenian Empire. Yet, although we have delivered immensely for the people of Oren, there is still more to be done. Complacency is never to be tolerated, nor is the work of a parliamentarian ever truly complete. After all, it is only natural for all men and women to strive toward bettering themselves through their labors, that they reap the benefits of their hard work in due course. A vote for the National Party is a vote for competency and action. We are not leaders, but servants of the people, and it is the people whom we intend to serve. Since achieving our first ever majority last term, we have laid the foundation for a better tomorrow. Yet more can be done if the Orenian people choose to place their faith in us once more. After all, actions speak louder than words. Thus, we pledge that if we are returned to the House of Commons with a renewed majority, the National Party shall strive to legislate in order to address the many issues facing the Holy Orenian Empire today. ✵ MANIFESTO OF THE NATIONAL PARTY ✵ I.) IMPLEMENTATION OF A ROBUST INFRASTRUCTURE PROGRAM The peripheral regions of the Holy Orenian Empire, while prosperous, could stand to be better utilized by the national government for the benefit of all. If returned to the House of Commons with a majority, we pledge to propose legislation supporting a number of both urban and rural improvements across the country. We hope to hold discussions with the Home Office and the Surveyor-General regarding the drafting legislation that would provide support for the following initiatives, should we be endowed with a majority: REMODELED & EXPANDED SEAPORTS CONSIDERATION OF THE CREATION OF A NATIONAL PARK IMPROVED MILITARY INSTALLATIONS IMPLEMENTATION OF THE TRANSIMPERIAL RAILROAD OVERALL AESTHETIC IMPROVEMENTS II.) REINSTATEMENT OF LAW AND ORDER For too long has a blind eye been turned to the rampant crime that has afflicted our streets. Reforms are needed in order to ensure the safety of the citizenry of the Holy Orenian Empire. Every life is precious, We have heard the cries of those yearning for something to be done about the ongoing crime wave, and we will not disappoint. If the National Party is returned to the House of Commons, we shall endeavor to draft comprehensive legislation with the purpose of addressing the recent crime wave. We pledge to investigate and engage in an overhaul of the way in which crime is dealt with within the Holy Orenian Empire, addressing injustices wherever they may lie. III.) HOLDING OFFICIALS ACCOUNTABLE No one man is above the law. The National Party wholeheartedly believes that officials must be held accountable by the Orenian people, especially when such has led to the neglect of their duties from the public. We pledge to hold comprehensive hearings and investigations into allegations of corruption and injustice brought before our Petitions Committee, which we hope to reinstate should we be returned to the House of Commons with a majority. Recently, members of the National Party conducted a thorough investigation into the affairs of the Ministry of Justice and summoned the Solicitor General to answer questions regarding the concerns of the people before the legislature. We pledge to continue exercising our right to oversight in such a manner moving forward, for the sake of ensuring continuance of good government at the behest of the people. IV.) SUPPORT FOR THE ARMED FORCES Hailing from all walks of life and from a variety of different backgrounds, our Commons members consist of entrepreneurs, scientists, medical professionals, bureaucrats, and former soldiers alike. Since our founding, we have fully supported the endeavors of the Imperial State Army, as well as all other men and women who regularly put themselves in harm’s way for the sake of our own safety. We aim to continue to give our armed forces the tools that they need to continue to do their duty and keep the lives of the Orenian citizenry safe. Furthermore, the Nationals intend to investigate legislation that would entail the implementation of a generous retirement package for long-term veterans of the ISA. V.) DEFENSE OF INDIVIDUAL FREEDOMS & LIBERTIES As Nationals, we believe that all are entitled to the pursuit of a fulfilling life. We believe in giving everyone the tools that they need to be successful, whatever their race, gender, or social class. Our party will always stand up for the right of Orenian men and women to pursue a free and wholesome life free of unnecessary bureaucratic restrictions, while still providing for a safe and reliable environment for them to pursue their ambitions. VI.) COMMUNICATION BETWEEN THE COMMONS AND ITS CONSTITUENTS We believe that TRANSPARENCY is of key importance to the continued integrity of our constitutional system and pursuit of the vision for Oren held by the Titans of State. As we are elected by the citizen body, it is only just that we provide public resources for the voters to remain well informed. Thus, if given a majority, we pledge to recruit scribes and clerks that shall record and publicize votes on legislation passed in the House of Commons for the benefit of all. We shall also actively advocate for other institutions of government to adopt similar measures, wherever we can. VI.) SUPPORT FOR THE CHURCH The Church of the Canon is part and parcel to the foundations of Orenian society, intertwined closely with the basics of our country. It has been for centuries, and continues to play an important role in the maintaining of morality and decency throughout the Holy Orenian Empire. We pledge support the charitable, cultural, and intellectual endeavors undertaken by the Church, so that the burden of poverty and those without hope might be lifted, thus leading to the strengthening of our society and humanity as a whole. VII.) ENDOWMENT OF THE ARTS We commend the endeavors of scholars and artisans who work to document, protect, and defend the culture of our great country. Such beauties make the world one worth living in, and they are worthy of the support of a National majority in the House of Commons. Already, the Nationals have passed the Petrine Laurel Reinstatement Act, written with the purpose of recognizing and revitalizing scholasticism within the Holy Orenian Empire. We pledge to continue supporting private organizations that foster and support the arts, as these institutions are part and parcel to preserving our heritage as Orenians. VIII.) DEFENSE OF THE RIGHTS OF ALL ORENIAN CITIZENS The Titans of State designed our institutions of government with the intention of treating all descendant citizens fairly under the law. It is, and has been, a tenet of our great country since the end of the AIS war. Certain voices have made known their displeasure with this century old reality, but the Nationals shall remain unyielding in our support for such. As Nationals, we hold true that inherent racial prejudices only make our nation weaker. We thus condemn all abhorrent attempts to target any descendant racial group within the Holy Orenian Empire on the basis of archaic stereotypes. Be they sons or daughters of Horen, Malin, Urguan, or Krug, we commit to defending the rights of all Orenians citizens. IX.) INCREASED GOVERNMENT EFFICIENCY & COMMUNICATION In recent years, many have felt that the Imperial Diet has been more distant than it has in previous decades. As servants of the people, working in the people’s house, it is our duty to hear out the concerns of the common Orenian and provide for them a voice to address their everyday concerns. If returned to the House of Commons with a majority, the National Party pledges to reinstate the Petitions Committee in a formal manner, with an included mechanism that will allow for the people of Oren to petition our chamber regarding certain matters. X.) STRATEGIC INVESTMENT & FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY The entrepreneurs of our country make up the backbone of the Orenian economy. It is new ideas from outside of the box that drive the wheels of the Empire, as well as a willingness to see them come to fruition. If returned to the House of Commons with a majority, we intend to investigate the creation of a Trade & Investment Committee that will support rising entrepreneurs, organizations, and guilds that have promise within the Holy Orenian Empire. However, we also commit to ensuring fiscal responsibility, and pledge to avoid wasteful spending that fails to adequately benefit the general public. XI.) WOMEN’S EMPOWERMENT We are proud of the fact that all three women currently in the House of Commons are members of the National Party. Our caucus has a long history of embracing the talents and capabilities of the fairer sex, and we believe that it is important to ensure their enfranchisement in the affairs of our country. After all, the women of our empire make up a sizable portion of our government and military, and labor with the utmost conviction to build a better tomorrow for our country. While it remains the constitutional prerogative of the House of Lords to first consider the issue of the succession of the nobility, we pledge not to disrupt the adoption of the Rosemoore Bill any further should the upper chamber vote in favor of the measure and it subsequently be presented before the House of Commons. However, we also advocate for either the repeal or amendment of laws that allow for women to be forced into unwanted marriages against their will. While marriages within the nobility are a matter for the House of Lords to consider, we pledge to do what we can and at least attempt use the powers of the House of Commons to immediately end the practice of “crossbow marriages” for women of common blood. ✵ VOTE NATIONAL, 1831! ✵

  19. Elizabeth Brae-Wittenbach simply sighs as she reads through the open letter, the sickly Commons member enjoying a bowl of chicken soup as she examines it. "I wish that the House of Lords would focus on reviewing the many bills which we've sent to the upper chamber, rather than playing politics with it's own members," She grumbles aloud, glancing over to an attendant as she makes these remarks. "What a ghastly affair... Poor woman."

  23. I use warding all the time to create dummies for arcane target practice and safe dueling rings. I think it definitely has its uses but they do end up being very niche, unless being used to set up anti-magic barriers or participate in mage’s duels. That being said, I personally don’t see any reason to remove warding from transfig because it wouldn’t really fit anywhere else. The only realistic alternative that I can see would be to just link warding / abjuration into voidal magic as a whole, able to be performed by anyone who has the specific knowledge of the magic at hand. A one slot magic entailing only the use of warding / abjuration would likely lead to the art falling out of practice, thus why I believe it is best included beneath transfiguration’s umbrella if such isn’t an option. As well, I had always believed that transfiguration was two slotted due to transmutation and alteration falling under the archetype. And I think it would be a mistake to decouple warding / abjuration from transfiguration as the alternatives would lead to it either being too widespread or lead to the art’s practical extinction. If push came to shove between the two however, the former would be my personal preference, though that's just my take.
