  1. A Statement on the Recent Disturbances 1813 IST | 366 ES | 17 SA The Great Crest of the Northern Geographical Society Est. 1762 A PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT FROM THE PRESIDENT OF THE NGS: Due to recent events, the President and the Department Heads of the Northern Geographical Society, in tandem with our Flagship Curator, have elected to suspend our practical operations for the duration of the ongoing instances of threats and disturbances in the Haeseni royal capital. The safety of our membership and that of our visitors, including those who practice a variety of the non-dark magical arts reflective of Almaris’s diversity, is of the utmost importance to the Society. Until such a time as the executive of our Society deems the environment in Karosgrad to be amiable to those who serve within the NGS, our local operations shall remain suspended. All of our exhibits shall remain open to be viewed by our cherished visitors and patrons, whom our Society appreciates to the utmost extent and intends to continue to serve. However, all other Karosgrad operations of the NGS shall remain in absentia for the time being. We hope to be able to reinstate our full operations in Karosgrad soon. Any further inquiries may be directed to the Office of the Presidency. With Sincerest Regrets, Celestine Herbert President of the NGS
  2. Hey Chenn, congrats surviving one year! Here's a question to commemorate the occasion and encourage you to reflect on your experiences since you joined up with LotC. During your first months on the server, what was your thought process as you rose from CarringtonCo employee to President's aide, MHC, then President yourself etc? What were your first impressions of LotC and of the Orenian political system? Is there anything you regret from those days that you'd have rather done differently? Enjoy!

  6. Sir Konrad Stafyr would smile warmly upon Konstantin from the Seven Skies, sipping from an ethereal mug of Carrion Black. He glances over to his fellow statesman, Sir Terrence, as they sit by the side of an etherial beach. "And so, young Konstantin has finally come full circle!" He would remark to his fellow deceased with a chuckle, shaking his head in the slowest of manners. "I remember when he was but a lad of eighteen, struggling to establish a legal practice of his own in Reza... And I remember the light in his eyes, when I offered to take him on as my assistant. When he became a Member of the Commons, and then Justicar. And finally, on the day he became Palatine. Oh, what a journey it's been for his since!" Gazing back out at the ethereal waters, he would let out a deep sigh. "His legacy will, undoubtedly, be colossal. Akin to, or perhaps even greater than our own I daresay. But alas, there is something more important than fame..." Hesitating a moment, he adds, "...And that, my friend, is family! He has chosen to spend his later years with his wife and children, to plot a new course and explore a new frontier of a different nature. It took me the longest time to realize that. Sadly, some Palatines never do. Like that poor Baruch fellow, or my cousin Leopold." Gazing out into the distance as he looks away, the Stafyr simply murmurs, "I hope that you know that I'm proud of you, lad. For however long that fishing trip of yours lasts, you deserve every last bit of it."
  7. YAY! I love it when people unsuspectingly open up a can of worms! 😈 Alright but srsly tho, I'm not gonna do that to you tonight of all nights. But! Having known you for an extremely long time, I'm definitely gonna make the most of this opportunity to provoke some inner reflection. So without further ado, here it goes: 1.) You've run around with a lot of communities on LotC for the past 8 years. Some of these include the Blood Eagles, Malinor, Al Faiz, Chambery, Oren, Haense, Stafyr, Ruthern, Vanir, and the NGS to name a few. What would you say have been your top three favorites to have participated in up to this point? Furthermore, can you share with the wider server some of your favorite moments within each? 2.) Aside from some of your more recently played characters such as Chirr, Isabel, and Keldra, what are some of your lesser known personas that you have enjoyed playing on LotC the most? 3.) The server has changed a lot since the days of Asulon and Anthos. As the years go by, fewer and fewer of us have ended up sticking around with the Lord of the Craft community actively. A few of us might remember what the server used to be like back in the day, but could you share with us your thoughts on how you think the server's developed since you first joined? Has it changed for the better or for the worse, and in what ways? 4.) Moving forward, what sort of things would you like to do on LotC? Obviously you've got a lot going on with Keldra and Chirr at the moment, but I know that you've told me before that you hope to play a wide array of varied personas moving forward. What sort of characters do you hope to play in the future that you haven't already? 5.)This one isn't LotC related, but since you said that we could ask you ANYTHING... Of all the universes that we ran through on the scenario server and its successor platforms with people like Joao, Cody, Toby etc, which would you say was your favorite or the most memorable during that time and why? Aaaaaand that's all for me. I'll leave a few for the others to pester you with. ❤️

  10. Aleksandr var Ruthern grins widely as his son waves his shiny new letters around. In response to his words, he says, "Da son, we did, but you took us across the finish line," The middle aged Raevir says as he gives his son a good, strong pat on the back. "You have done a dobry job Maric, and I am proud of both you and your siblings for achieving this great moment for our family."

  13. Celestine - Piano, for this is an instrument that can do many amazing things independent of support! Aleksandr - The Violin, as an elegant instrument that can be played at a number of different paces and tempos, with both smooth and plucky sounds. Eliza - Electric guitar, cuz it's an instrument of rebellion. Plus it's also chaotic and kewl 😎 . Also because it doesn't fit in with the rest of the orchestra as it's not an orchestral instrument...
  14. Aleksandr var Ruthern, the father of TRH Count of Metterden, would smile as he reads over a copy of one of his son's wedding invitations from the comfort of his armchair in the Ruthern manor. "Ah, what a splendid match! Can't say that I'm that surprised Maric and Anabela have decided to finally tie the knot," He chuckles to his wife Keldra, currently in the process of sharpening a hunting knife for one of her excursions. "It's a good fit though. I have always wanted Maric to marry for love like we did, and I'm sure the two will be quite happy together."
  15. "I'm ever so glad that Otto's shop is thriving in this doldrums economy!" Celestine remarks to herself as she reads the flier from her office at the NGS flagship museum, applauding her husband's industrious spirit!
  16. Anthology of the NGS A Compendium of Studies by the Northern Geographical Society The Great Crest of the Northern Geographical Society Est. 1762 ✵ FOREWORD ✵ By Celestine E. Herbert President of the NGS For well over thirty years, the Northern Geographical Society and its membership have boldly sought to dispel the fog of ignorance by drafting ethnographies, taxidermies, field guides, histories, and biographies for the public to read and enjoy. One of the definition goals of our organization is to better educate the Descendant peoples not only as to their own heritages, but as to those of their neighbors as well. While the NGS does indeed indulge in a fair bit of… Unconventional adventures on occasion, this has always been our primary purpose. This Anthology of academic works is meant to serve as a continually updated compendium, able to be viewed by the public in order to easily access all that we have written as a professional body of scholars and explorers. It is my sincere hope that in publishing this compendium of NGS studies, the peoples of Almaris might be able to learn something new about their own culture and their neighbors that had otherwise passed them by when they were originally released. ✵ International Ethnographies ✵ DISCLAIMER: Celestine Herbert’s ethnographies of the Kingdom of Haense and the Commonwealth of Kaedrin were commissioned by the Imperial Ministry of Civil Affairs during the 1760s, thus predating the formation of the NGS. However, we have included them in this compendium as we consider these pieces to be key parts of the NGS’s legacy, as the academic acclaim afforded from the publication of these studies would eventually lead to Herbert’s founding of the Northern Geographical Society in 1762. In order to do this, we maintain a chain of museums across the continent with the goal of eventually establishing one in every major Almarisian country. The institutions we maintain serve to educate the public on a variety of different topics in the fields of culture, history, and naturalism across the land. The operations of the NGS transcend state borders, and our Society takes great pride in the academic, ethnic, and cultural diversity of our membership. Our museums are all operated by professionals with impeccable credentials in their areas of expertise, and we take great pride in both our independence as an organization and in our reputation as an unbiased academic society of the utmost integrity. We often go on expeditions in order to expand our horizons and push new frontiers as well as administer these higher institutions of learning, and thus consider ourselves to be adventurers as well as scholars alike. ✵ Leadership of the NGS ✵ Celestine E. It serves as the governing board of the organization, voting and deliberating on administrative matters, affirming the nomination of new Circle members, and proposing expeditions and programs to undertake for the betterment of the NGS and of Almaris. Every member of it has proven their dedication and loyalty to the values of the Northern Geographical Society in some way, shape, or form. They are all acclaimed in their own right as both adventurers and as academics, although some might be more focused in one area than another. In order to gain admission to the Society’s Circle, you must prove yourself worthy enough to receive a nomination from the President. This can be done either through noteworthy achievements done outside of the NGS, or through several years of service as a member of one of the Society’s divisions. Joining a Division While we take great pride in our status as an academic organization characterized by impartiality and integrity, the Northern Geographical Society also considers itself to be a tightly knit family. We care very greatly for the members of our Society, and we as explorers, academics, and adventurers pull work together to pull our resources so that the mission and vision of the NGS might be realized. There are a number of different ways of getting involved with the Northern Geographical Society, easily suiting whatever amount of time and effort a person wishes to dedicate to our organization. From volunteer tour guides to world esteemed scientists, academics, and mages, we at the NGS value the diffusion and preservation of knowledge in an unbiased and impartial manner that benefits all the Descendant civilizations of Almaris. The easiest way of joining the Society’s Circle is to approach the executive leadership, namely the President of the NGS, about becoming a member of one of the Society’s three divisions. They may choose to render their services in the fields of Research, Exploration, or Personal Relations in whatever manner they see fit. ~ NGS Research Division ~ ~ NGS Exploration Corps ~ ~ NGS Personal Relations ~ To Join one of these divisions of the NGS, please pen a letter to the Office of the President expressing your interest in such.. 18. "Oh, how grand!" Celestine cries out in absolute glee as she gives the interview a read on the sofa of her residence, wiping a tear of joy away from her cheek as she gives her daughter a pat on the head. "I am so proud of you, little Dannika! Truly, the future relies on young writers such as yourself to take the initiative to do such things. This shall be a grand way of documenting the thoughts of the Haeseni monarchy in the aftermath of the few peaceful political separations in all of human history. I've no doubt in my mind that you'll grow up to be a bright, intelligent young woman!"
  19. A STATEMENT FROM THE COUNT OF METTERDEN 22nd of Tov and Yermey, 342 ES Due to the actions of Ser Ruben var Ruthern, I regretfully declare capacity as the Ruthern patriarch and as the Count of Metterden, I have been left with no other choice than to disown him for a variety of different reasons. Earlier this Saint’s Day, the man whom I had once called my cousin declared to my face that he owed no allegiance to the House of Ruthern. Our quarrel first began when, against my wishes, he signaled his defiant willingness to enter into a matrilineal marriage against my will and discarded my attempts to otherwise facilitate the union in a manner that was acceptable to myself, to my council, and to his kin. I have striven to show as much understanding and lenience as humanly possible, far surpassing that of my predecessors, but it would seem as though I am left with no other choice. Thus, it is with great regret that I must assent to my former cousin’s dare and disown him, so that he may do as he pleases without tarnishing the prestige of our ancient and noble House in the process. Signed, THE RIGHT HONOURABLE, Aleksandr var Ruthern, Count of Metterden, Protector of the South, Baron of Rostig, Lord of Ivanhall, Helmholtz
