Hearsay of Hanseti-Ruska - I
garentoft replied to HearsayofHansetiRuska's topic in Kingdom of Hanseti-Ruska
Franz ceased his aimless staring into the mirror as an overly excited and giddy courtier brought the paper to his attention. Curious as to the content of Haeseni gossip, he read through the paper. While relieved to not find himself in any such paper, he began to speak to the attentive servant, "To spark such rumours about Stefan of all people? Whoever wrote that has obviously never spoken to anyone involved." The servant did not speak, and simply listened intently to the Prince, as he began to delve further into an incomprehensible rant.- 21 replies

Work, Work, Work, Death. Retirement was not something Lauritz had ever looked forward to, so many hours of his day which he could only spend with menial leisure activities. He was, and would always be, a working man, he realised long ago that there was nothing else that satisfied him. Thus, he had begun a grand piece of work, a so-called magnum opus, a chronicle of his own life. And on this final day of writing, he allowed the ink to set on the pages of the autobiography, before he shut it closed for the final time. It was done, his life, everything that he had done, had been written down. He could now rest eternally in the chronicles of history, avoiding his worst fear, that of being forgotten. He hadn’t seen Konrad, his youngest son, since he had retired to Valwyck. Konrad had followed in his own footsteps, taking up a career of politics within the Duma, with one successful term as Tribune, and having just been elected for another one. Out of all of his children, Konrad disappointed him the least. Jens had moved back to Kalden years ago, and the rest were God knows where. Konrad had invited him over for dinner today, he had gotten married a few years ago, and Lauritz had yet to meet his daughter-in-law. In the invitation, Konrad had called it “Taco Tov and Yermey,” whatever that meant, he was unsure of. Nevertheless, he pulled his coat off the coat rack, and began the long trek from Valwyck to Karosgrad. Konrad’s wife was a sweet Hyspian woman, and an excellent chef at that. The tacos were delicious, even if a little too spicy for his taste. He enjoyed the dinner, it was good to see Konrad again. Konrad was what he had hoped all of his children would be, and he could only hope that Konrad’s children would follow in those very footsteps, follow the path of their family that they both have shaped. After dinner, he began the long trek home to Valwyck, though each step became heavier and the next, and he paused to sit on a wayward bench along the road. There, he gazed up at the dark heavens. He had lived a good life, hadn’t he? He still remembered the day he arrived in Helena, the day he was elected as an Imperial Senator, and the day he became the President Pro Tempore. These memories were all so distant now, but close all the same. Then there was the Scyfling War, his siblings, the Barbanovs, losing his eye. In truth, he always thought he had been supposed to die that day, but alas he had lived, and continued on. Then he returned to Helena, became a Judge, got elected to the House of Commons, became a Judge again. Then finally, he was appointed High Justiciar of Haense, a position he held for twenty years before he retired. He had never lost a case in his life, by all measure, he was one of the best lawyers the world had seen. He had worked enough. He felt so tired, all those years of work. Now, he just wanted to rest. Maybe he could finally return home to Kalden. The next morning, it was a local farmer that discovered him on the bench. Lauritz Henrik Christiansen HKML, KM 1733 - 1810 286 - 363 Lauritz Christiansen posing for a painting, circa 1774, painting by Alaine Ferri (UnBaed) Senator of Helena, 1754 - 1764 President Pro Tempore of the Imperial Senate, 1756 - 1764 Imperial Circuit Judge, 1764 - 1775 & 1784 - 1786 Member of the House of Commons, 1775 - 1784 High Justiciar of Hanseti-Ruska, 1786 - 1806

EIGHTH EDICT OF THE BARBANOV MAERSHIP AICHTZYR EDYKT I VE BARBANOV MAERSTAT Issued on 5th of Wzuvar and Byvca, 363 ES KRUSAE ZWY KONGZEM COMMUNITY GRAVEYARD AND CATACOMB INITIATIVE The Karosgrad Graveyard, constructed when the Capital itself was first built, currently stands empty, unused, and in a derelict state. While many of the nobility of the realm possess their own crypts, there are still many members of our local community who have passed without receiving the proper respect of being buried appropriately, and therefore it is the desire of the Office of the Grand Maer, in cooperation with the Archbishopric of Henrikev, to begin utilising this graveyard appropriately. Therefore, the Office of the Grand Maer is announcing that it will henceforth be offering the ability to purchase graveyard plots, on which ones loved ones, friends, or family can be buried, in the Karosgrad Graveyard, and that the Archbishopric of Henrikev will be offering funeral and burial services to come along with these plots. Additionally, the Office of the Grand Maer is announcing that it is commissioning the construction of a catacomb below the current graveyard, to meet potential future demand for resting places, and to allow those who would wish to be put to rest in the catacombs the ability to do so. IV JOVEO MAAN, IV JOVEO EHR, 363 ES His Highness, Prinzen Franz Leopold, Duke of Schattenburg, Grand Maer of Karosgrad The Most Revered Yaromir, Archbishop of Henrikev

Franz laid the newspaper on his desk, glancing out the window to the sight of his older brother. He wondered what Sand was brooding about, but came to the conclusion it was perhaps that very same thing he had just read. He took off his reading glasses, stowing them away in one of the drawers of his desk, before he began to pace around the room, his eyes focused on that brother of his. "Perhaps Aleksandr was right not to marry. Love seems to ruin lives more than anything." He pondered, recalling many such stories of tragic love that he had heard of and seen throughout his life. "Well, niet ours, of course." He stated in an ironic jest towards his empty bedroom, hoping that Lorena would emerge from it again one day. Nevertheless, he set forth from his set forth from his chambers, determined to hear what the rest of the court thought on such matters.

Lauritz put down his book, turning to stare out at the lake outside of his Valwyck Cabin's window, nodding his head a few times, he began to brood over the news of the Galbraith. "You weren't even that old. You had plenty work left in you, George." He spoke with a sigh, the almost eighty year-old retiree returning to his writing.

Francisco di Frisco-Disco, an aspiring Illatian legislator and good man of GOD living in the slums of Karosgrad, panicks as this bill was publicized. Exasperated, he hurries home, beads of sweat on his brow, likely from the sight of the utter heresy that was going on in the Godless Haeseni Kingdom. He kicked down the door to his teenage son's room, and exclaimed the following: "Vittore XVI di Frisco-Disco, ai, look, how they've butchered the law! They've changed nothing!" He wept into the arms of his young teenage son, who was above all confused about his father's outburst. Three hours later, Vittore XVI di Frisco-Disco reads the bill the father had left in his room, using his grandfather's reading glasses. Gently, he knocked on the door to his father's office, and informed him the following: "Well, actually, papa, they made fornication a severe offense instead of a middling offense."

Lauritz sat in his Valwyck retirement cabin, peering out over nearby waters. He blinked as he spotted a fishing boat with two familiar yet distant faces on it. "About time," he mumbled to himself, "Thought Konstantin was going to die in office." He rose, pressing his hand to the window, "It looks like they're having fun, at least." He marched over to his desk, shuffling through some old papers marked with CHRISTIANSEN-WICK SOLICITORS on them, before he sat down again, resuming his writing.

"Forward." uttered the disheveled Franz somberly to his own mirror reflection. He then grasped that letter he had read moments earlier, stuffing it inside a drawer, before he moved to seat himself on his bed, reflecting on nights many years ago.

SEVENTH EDICT OF THE BARBANOV MAERSHIP ZELVZYR EDYKT I VE BARBANOV MAERSTAT Issued on 3rd of Wzuvar and Byvca, 360 ES KRUSAE ZWY KONGZEM THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL INITIATIVE While the Grand Maer is elected as the representative of the people of Karosgrad, they are but one man, one person. To represent such a bountiful, prosperous, and diverse city is something that one man can hardly do alone. It is only natural that the Grand Maer enlist the help of those various different people within Karosgrad. It is so that the Grand Maer announces the creation of a new Municipal Council, one that will aid the Grand Maer in creating city policy for the remainder of their term (and potential terms thereafter), in the hopes that the institution of the Maership itself can become an even truer representation of the people of Karosgrad. The Municipal Council shall consist of five Councillors, who shall serve as the primary advisor of the Grand Maer, and shall meet with the Grand Maer yearly to discuss policy-making for the city. To become one of those five Councillors, one must send an application to the Grand Maer. In the application, one is expected to write about their background, occupation, and aspirations for the city of Karosgrad, potential policies, and the like. The Grand Maer will then handpick five people from the applicants that they deem the most fit to create cooperative policy. IV JOVEO MAAN, IV JOVEO EHR, 360 ES His Highness, Prinzen Franz Leopold, Duke of Schattenburg, Grand Maer of Karosgrad

NAF VE PRINZENAS ROYAL AG VE BOSSIRAS VAN ANTIOCH On the Princess Royal and the Baroness of Antioch Issued on the 11th of Msitza and Dargund, 359 ES INTRODUCTION The titles of Princess Royal (Naumariav: Prinzenas Royal) and Baroness of Antioch (Naumariav: Bossiras van Antioch) are recent additions to the vocabulary of titular titles used by the Royal House of Barbanov, having been only used three times so far in the history of the Kingdom. Their existence and usage within the Royal Family can be traced back to Princess Analiesa Reza, the eldest daughter of Andrik IV’s triplets, who held both the titles. Since then, Nataliya Reza, the eldest daughter of Sigismund II, was styled as Princess Royal (she, however, was never styled as Baroness of Antioch) until she was disowned by Josef I. Lastly, Josef I’s daughter, Princess Katerina Ceciliya, currently holds both titles of Princess Royal and Baroness of Antioch. As not much precedent is set on these titles, my dearest nephew, our Monarch Henrik II, has implored me to study what I can about these titles, in hopes of establishing a better precedent for them for the Royal House to use henceforth. HISTORY AND CURRENT PRECEDENTS The easiest to state in regards to these titles is that all of them have been held by the eldest daughters of the Monarch. Analiesa Reza, Nataliya Reza, and Katerina Ceciliya are all the eldest daughters of their respective parent monarchs, thus making it obvious that these titles are bestowed to the eldest daughters. This is further supported by the fact that the titles were not granted to Juliya Ipera, the second daughter of Sigismund II, when Nataliya Reza was disowned. Furthermore, while Nataliya Reza was never granted the Barony of Antioch, there seems to be an obvious tie between being the eldest daughter and receiving this title, just as there is with the title of Princess Royal. Why Nataliya Reza never received it is unknown, though the likely reason is that Analiesa Reza was still alive and possessing the title upon her birth. As Analiesa Reza died in 334 ES, and Nataliya Reza was disowned in 345 ES, neither title was held by anyone upon the birth of Katerina Ceciliya in 347 ES, which is assumedly why she received both titles upon her birth, and not just the one like Nataliya Reza had. CONCLUSIONS It occurs that both the title of Princess Royal and Baroness of Antioch are lifetime appointments, customarily granted to the eldest daughter of the Monarch. If precedent from the Baroness of Antioch, as well as all of the other customary titles, such as the Royal Dukedoms held by the Monarch’s son, is used, it would be so that these titles cannot be held by multiple people at once. Princess Royal, has however, been an exception to this rule, as Analiesa Reza and Nataliya Reza held it simultaneously, which is an inconsistency in comparison to all other customary royal titles. As it stands, we have never run out of Royal Dukedoms to use, and it will likely never be the case that this happens, though the hypothetical scenario of what would happen if we had no more would have to be taken into consideration, as it is prudent to the precedent I wish to set in regards to the Princess Royal and the Baroness of Antioch. While the Royal Dukedoms are usually granted on birth, there is nothing requiring nor stating that they be bestowed upon the Princes at birth. Therefore, it is my assumption that if no Royal Dukedoms were available for a Prince to receive upon birth, the Prince would be granted such title once one was made available due to the death of a previous holder. I believe that this assumption, as well as everything else established, suggests that the Precedent for the Princess Royal and the Baroness of Antioch should be the following: That the titles of Princess Royal and Baroness of Antioch are granted at the discretion of the Monarch, and may be revoked at the discretion of the Monarch. That the titles of Princess Royal and Baroness of Antioch are held for life, and may not belong to two Princesses simultaneously. That the titles of Princess Royal and Baroness of Antioch, when not held by anyone, may be granted to the eldest daughter of the reigning Monarch. That the titles of Princess Royal and Baroness of Antioch belong to no one by right, the eldest daughter is never entitled to be granted these titles. This means that Katerina Ceciliya, our current Princess Royal and Baroness of Antioch, will likely hold these titles until her death. After her death, the reigning Monarch, whether it be Henrik II or his successor, may then grant these titles to their eldest daughter. If no eldest daughter exists, the titles simply go unused until one exists and is granted them. IV JOVEO MAAN, IV JOVEO EHR, 359 ES His Highness, Prinzen Franz Leopold, Duke of Schattenburg. His Royal Majesty, Henrik II, by the Grace of Godan, King of Hanseti and Ruska, Grand Hetman of the Army, Prince of Bihar, Dules, Ulgaard, Lahy, Sorbesborg and Slesvik, Duke of Carnatia and Vidaus, Margrave of Korstadt and Rothswald, Count of Chatnik, Nenzing, Graiswald, Karikhov, Baranya, Kvasz, Kavat, Karovia, Kovachgrad, Torun, Turov, Kaunas, Alban, Reza and Markev, Viscount of Grauspin, Baron of Thurant, Rytsburg, Venzia, Essenstadt, Krepost and Kralta, Lord of the Westfolk, Protector of the Highlanders, etcetera.

Franz curiously read over the invitation that a courier had delivered to him. As he spotted the name of Wilhelmina Beatrix, his lips curled into a faint smile as he recalled her from a previous event in Providence. With that, he eagerly began preparations of crafting a mask.

Heavy, the Church Bells Toll.
garentoft replied to CaptainHaense's topic in Kingdom of Hanseti-Ruska
Franz recalled a dream he had when he was younger, of the six faces of himself and his siblings, slowly fading away until they were nothing. Josef had been the first, a weary face burdened by that heavy crown atop his head. As he woke up that morning, he already knew what had happened. The aura around the entire palace was different, only something he would notice. He stuffed his hands deep inside his pockets as he usually would, hiding the nervous twitches that were all too common. Death was not a new thing to him, and it never had been. In a way, he had always envied Josef, he had been granted a purpose by the world, a meaning to it all. Whereas Franz had spent his entire life seeking one, searching in every nook and cranny for a purpose, a meaning, that he never quite could find. Yet, he knew that Josef had never enjoyed the purpose given to him, a King that the world had mercilessly chosen despite his own wishes. As he made his way into Josef’s bedroom, he hovered a hand over his dead brother with a sigh. A tear formed in his right eye, which soon turned into a stream. He recalled that dream of those six siblings once again, and thought of his sister. -
SIXTH EDICT OF THE BARBANOV MAERSHIP ZEGZYR EDYKT I VE BARBANOV MAERSTAT Issued on 21st of Msitza and Dargund, 358 ES KRUSAE ZWY KONGZEM ROAD CONNECTIONS AND INFRASTRUCTURE INITIATIVE The connection between the Haeseni people is one that is essential to our nation, not only the spiritual and cultural connections between one another, our metaphysical bonds that drive us together as a people, but also the physical connection between us all, the access to all corners of the Kingdom. Many of the vassal lords have finally finished the constructions of their castles, these magnificent castles and keeps stands as the pride and home of our many Lords and Ladies. But these are often quite a distance away from Karosgrad, and lacking infrastructure makes the trek both hard on the body and hard on the mind. Therefore, the Grand Maer is commissioning the construction of road connections between all vassals of the Kingdom and not only the Capital of Karosgrad, but also between each other.. These roads are to be be kept well-lit and be marked with directional signs for ease of navigation.
