Mental magic, tips for the user and usee!

Hello Chump's and Chumpette's!

You may be telling yourself "Usee isn't a word silly." Well I do not care! It fit the title and I like it so it shall remain for several eternities. Anywho, on with the topic of this post. Many people as of late have been complaining about mental mage's, so, I wanted to point out a few pointers that where missed off on the original guide by Elindor (http://www.lordofthecraft.net/topic/100613-mental-magic-guide/). For anybody asking, my character Dasyra was taught by Vulnir way back in September! So I like to believe I can rp the magic correctly!

Pointer 1

Melding, the art of extracting a memory from one and reliving it within your own mind using high amounts of energy and mana. Well, that's how its supposed to go. People seem to have forgotten that melding is a highly intensive spell that can only be done freely by those that have practiced for many a elven month, much before this little magic update. So, anybody who is reading memories within a flash then turning around to shank some poor soul is being bad! Bad I tell you! Time is needed to recover and you shouldnt be instantly able to run away at the speed of light with intense mana and practice!

Pointer 2

Another common mistake with melding is the way it is done. So, to explain I'm going to introduce my personal character Dasyra and a completely random soul named billy. Let's watch.

Dasyra:  "Hey there Billy! I'm going to look into your thoughts a second!"

Billy:       "Okay!"

Dasyra's eyes flicker to a dark purple, her body becomes limp and eyes seem to lose focus, seeming almost separated from reality.

((Emotes through /msg'ing ))

*You feel a presence enter your mind.*

*The presence begins to shift itself towards your memory cortex, easily being felt by those experienced, upon arriving it would search for memories in the topic of *INSERT TOPIC HERE.* ignoring any irrelevant memories.*

That's just a basic example of the process that need's to be underwent, remember, any distraction in the outside world will break your focus and cause you to stop! Focus is needed!

Pointer 3

EC illusions, or called on the new guide 'Cataleptic illusions' are one of the most powerful, yet tricky spell's from the mental mage's headarmory. It involves creating an illusion so vivid that it causes one to enter an unconscious state, along with the user itself. This again is hugely draining even for the most experienced of users.

The emote to start such an event up would be incredibly long also, being about 4-5 emotes in total, and again distractions during this period would cause failure yet still leave the user drained from the incredible amounts of mana used during. Eg.:

*The presence beings to flicker rapidly between the several areas of your brain, manipulating and prodding at all of them. As this happens random sounds, sights and feelings begin to ripple around your body as the brain becomes conflicted by the altering realities. Soon after, your brain beings to drift, a sense of tiredness overcoming your entire body until you fall completely unconscious.*

After that, you describe the world this person has been sent too. Again, only an example, many people may prefer to throw their own little twist on it. Just don't powergame it!

Pointer 4

This is one I'm currently 50/50 on, in the new guide is states a mental mage can 'wipe' the memories of another how this is not stated on any of the original, accepted lore. A post was mage several months back by supremacy0ps about the idea, yet it was never progressed to accepted, never mind implemented. This makes me consider the legitimacy behind this idea and personally I would choose to avoid it until a LM can make a decision on the acceptance/denial of the idea.

Anyways, that's all for now. If you have any further questions regarding actions done by a mental mage on yourself, or a friend. Feel free to comment. If I believe it necessary I will create a new pointer to describe what's meant to happen if not I'll merely respond through a quote.

Number 4 was never accepted.

Actually it was. Shortly after you left I was whipping out an updated mental magic guide because a couple players had asked for it. At that time I asked around with references and the 3 heads and generally active MT agreed it was cool for a 1 hour memory wipe.

Well its good to see mind magic is still around.  As one of the first users of this magic it was my favorite as I got more and more involved with it.  Suggestions for any wanting to use this magic.  Its not a combative magic, and is more for one on one role play.

It is useful in many situations to develop characters and is extremely fun if used correctly.  One big thing to remember though is since its using /tells/ a lot during the rp that if others are around you to make sure you emote every so often something 'outside' you that is seen by others.  Also for anyone new that you use the magic on.. expect to take awhile and explain how it works.

If you yourself are not a mind Mage, but do know of their existence, can you set up mind barriers still?

The answer on this thread and the guide is the same. Someone does not need to be a Mental mage to develop mental barriers. Though unless you are tutored by a mental mage your barrier will probably not be very effective. But if you think someone is looking for something then you can attempt to hide it by: misdirection, distraction, or walling. It does take a high level of cognitive ability to do this, though magic experience is not needed.

How about amnesiacs? Are those memories gone, or just hidden to the person with amnesia? Could a mind mage look into the past of an amnesiacs memories? If they can, would the amnesia itself be a mind barrier of sorts?

So, if a mental mage sends someone into a coma/makes them fall asleep, if someone kills the person who the spell was used on, will the mind mage also be killed? I feel like I saw that, but I may be thinking of Dragon Age...
