No, I agree. I've said this all the time. LOTC isn't about winning.

HOWEVER. If I'm attacked 24/7, I can't bring interesting roleplay when I'm going to be PVP'd all the time. That's why I'm upset.

Why I'm also upset is that  magic users no longer have any meaning because some noob with no teacher is suddenly a tier 5 Necromancer in 10 minutes, when I put 18 months into my magic RP.

I don't care if Magic Apps are removed. They should require a teacher, and have proof of being taught or they will be treated as smoke and mirrors.

You want to conjure black fire dragons? Oh I'm sorry. I don't see anything!

So once I find a good background for smithing magic...I can do it? Smithing magic in my mind = Making weapons with magic, but aren't magical except cosmetically and possibly rply, but not combat wise.

Yikes. Quite possibly the very worst update to LotC I have ever seen. Seems what's basically happening is you're telling the long term magic users to 'Get over it' to stop the players who don't like magic being stronger than their characters which could've taken just 5 minutes to come up with from whining. Literally, you're giving everyone who's spent 9 months, even a year getting their magic to tier 5 a great big middle finger with absolutely no compensation whatsoever. You expect the community to just 'Take it on the chin'?

That sounds very awesome, I hope you develop something like this :)

I really cannot predict what will happen. Let's just see where this all goes...

why so sad??? ur now a tier 5 kha magic and tier 5 shaman user!!!!!

Tiers are out of the picture, though. You are a T5 and T1 simultaneously because everything was flatlined to be the PvP equal of anybody else.

Picture this, Regular Illusionist Joe is walking down the road and is confronted by three bandits.

Regular Illusionist Joe proceeds to start casting a spell that will help him ESCAPE AND RUN, i.e a big flash of light or invisibility.

The Bandits immediately scream PVP DEFAULT and cut down Regular illusionist Joe who is helpless to their whims, because he must PVP. Reducing any magic that may have helped him escape into either clicking, or running MCly.

As per usual, I'm going to try my best and simply roll with the punches. In my honest opinion, to give magic out in this way would require anyone who wishes magic to have a full understanding of what they are doing.

However, this now raises the restrictions I had on myself, although I even feel these restrictions where needed... Eitherway, we'll have to simply see how things go. I'll try to stay open minded; but as soon as someone tries to push the limits of what specific magics can do, I'm done.

Or... all mages are going get stomped into the ground. What is left of magic RP will go to hell and the rest of rp will follow suit.

Mages are being "stomped into the ground" for suddenly being on equal terms with everyone else on the server? Is this not the exact elitist attitude that we're trying to get rid of in changing to this new system?

Nothing is preventing you from using your awesome magic in awesome ways outside of combat. A powerful druid can still grow a forest on a whim, a shaman can still maintain a connection to the spirits, and a beard mage can still grow out the most interesting beard in the world with a thought. This system merely removes any advantages a mage has over others in combat itself. The lack of restrictions that go along with that are merely there because little else is restricted on the server. If learning magic is restricted, why isn't learning swordsmanship? Archery? Blacksmithing?

Forcing magic to be learned legitimately through a method overseen by a team is what forced new players looking for magic to leave, as they had no way of learning it without staying for extended periods of time, something not everyone can do, and this contributes to our 10% new player retention rate.

By you saying that EVERY mage is being hurt because of us balancing combat between mages and non-mages, you have only reinforced my personal belief that this change was incredibly needed.

Remember: people still need to learn magic, bullshitting your way to T5 in a day or so is powergaming and metagaming. Just sayin'.

Well I think it is finaly time to make my Pyromancing Telekinetic Shaman Neal.

Get serious...

NO NO NO.

THIS IS GOING TO DESTROY MAGIC EVEN MORE!

We needed more restrictions! not less!

The only reason this type of magic worked in Aegis is because there were magic guilds.  Now, I am aware druids, and mages, and shaman orders still exist, but they are not the same.

The guilds regulated magic, the idea was: "if your not in one of the guilds you shouldn't know magic"  It was an unspoken rule that most people followed.  It was never written, but it was an expectation.  The magic app has made people think otherwise.  The magic app made people think that everyone can know magic, with our without a guild.

This worked (kinda) in Aegis because of this unspoken rule.  No longer, the player base no longer follows this rule and most likely never will.  We, as past and present members of the magic team, have successfully trained the playerbase into thinking anyone can know magic so long as they have an app and a teacher.

Now I know I am not the most respectable person in terms of magic, due to things in the past.  However, I was around in a time when this rule was ever present.  This was not what I meant when I said let magic be "free".  Free meaning open to alteration and improvements.

What do I know, this might work out great!....
